In this week's episode we wrap up our GenCon interviews with Pathfinder 2.0 from Paizo Publishing. But first, Anna is dying to tell everyone about the Void VR Experience called Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire. After 2 years of anticipation Anna finally had a chance to dip into the world of virtual reality and she was impressed. Check out Void at a location near you. Once everyone is back to reality the team moves on to their interview with Luis, a developer for Pathfinder 2.0. With this new edition of Pathfinder Paizo took the lessons learned from their first edition and wanted to simplify gameplay. By introducing things like 10 steps character creation, the ABC’s of character creation (Ancestry, Background, and Class), and a simplified Action Economy Paizo wanted to give fans of Pathfinder what they were asking for, while making the system accessible to new players. Luis shares some stories from the games he’s been running, giving us some pointers on character combos and synergies. It sounds to JT and Anna like Luis likes Fighters the best, but Tom and Myron didn’t quite hear it that way. Listen for yourself and you decide! Remember to look for all episodes of our podcasts on iTunes, Stitcher, and TuneIn. Make sure to subscribe to the show so you’ll never miss an episode. Also, you can keep up with us on our website: havefunandplay.com. We are constantly thinking about adding new content, so roll the dice and come join us!

When Walt Disney opened the first modern theme park in Anaheim in 1955, it represented the first concrete attempt to create an alternate reality for visitors. Recent developments in VR technology are creating a seismic shift in just how realistic that will feel for guests. There have been several attempts to incorporate VR elements into rides, such as roller coasters, but they have mostly suffered from the intrusion of the unwieldy gear necessary to present the alternate visuals and movements. The suspension of disbelief is difficult to sustain when the weight of the headset reminds you of its presence. Glitchy video components can also diminish the impact of the experience. One way to address the challenge is to build attractions specifically for the VR perspective. Good examples of this can be found in the Showdown at Ghost Town at Knotts Berry Farm in Buena Vista, California and the Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire offered by The Void at the Disney resorts in California and Florida.

We’ve talked a lot about VR on this show, and there are a lot of great experiences out there. From Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s Carne y Arena at LACMA, which puts you in the shoes of an immigrant crossing the border into the united states, to The VOIDs hyper-reality experience Star Wars Secrets of the Empire, where you and three other people move through a virutal world as undercover agents to retrieve information critical to the Rebel Alliance. VR has a lot of potential, but what about VR’s less immersive cousin, AR? Quite a few companies like Intel are coming out with glasses that look just like reading glasses, but have some level of display meant to be accessed when you want, to more grandiose endeavors like Magic Leap, who hope to create ubiquitous lightweight glasses that add virtual objects to the real world. My guest this week is Galit Ariel, founder of WondARlands and the author of, "Augmenting Alice, The Future of Identity, Experience and Reality", which contextualizes AR Applications, implementation potential, and the technologies challenges and risks. I spoke with Galit about AR vs VR and the challenges we have with AR, but first, what brought Galit to AR...

This week we have a different kind of show than you may be used to. Our main topic is on a subject that has absolutely nothing to do with Disney. This week we’re talking about The Wizarding World of Harry Potter! Jonathan recently had the opportunity to visit Universal Studios in Orlando and, since both AATM hosts (and many other Disney fans) are also BIG Harry Potter fans, we thought we would give a little review and insight into the immersive themed sections that make up The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios and Universal’s Islands of Adventure theme parks. This week in Disney news, Star Wars: The Last Jedi trailer is released, the Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire virtual reality experience in Disney Springs begins selling tickets, Epcot’s Candlelight Processional celebrity narrator line-up for 2017 is announced, and much more! We also add another official All About the Mouseketeer to the Roll Call and, later in the show we’ll make another Mouse Call to interview one of our loyal listeners. If you would like to become an official All About the Mouseketeer or receive a Mouse Call from us, send us your name, where you’re from, and your phone number to podcast@aatmcentral.com. All of this, and much more, lies ahead on this week’s episode of the All About the Mouse Disney podcast – Your weekly dose of Disney magic and mayhem!
