As this new year is hurled upon us, Cory decided we need to slow things down a bit with what he calls "stony hang movies," AKA movies that are actually about weed for a change. While we have featured movies with Vincent Price mainlining LSD, we have somehow avoided the subject of cannabis itself in the selection of our films altogether, so Cory curated this double feature from the depths of Tubi and Roku's catalogs. In our first movie, Gene Hackman is a crooked LA cop who forces burnt-out rock star Cisco Pike (Kris Kristofferson) to sell 100 keys of primo weed in just 36 hours in CISCO PIKE from Columbia in 1971. This forgotten gem boasts an amazing cast all the way around with Karen Black (FIVE EASY PIECES, TRILOGY OF TERROR) as Cisco's long-suffering girlfriend and Harry Dean Stanton as Cisco's former bandmate. As Cisco makes his way through amazing and sadly gone Los Angeles locations in his frantic quest to unload these bricks of shake, he runs into counterculture characters played by Roscoe Lee Brown, Viva, Joy Bang (MESSIAH OF EVIL), Antonio Fargas (Huggy Bear from STARSKY AND HUTCH), Severn Darden (BATTLE FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES), and Allan Arbus (M*A*S*H). Don't get too stoned like Philena. Keep it mellow for this one. Streaming on Prime Video and the Roku Channel And then we have the somewhat less lustrous ARNOLD'S WRECKING CO. (1973) where the annoying cousin Arnold makes marijuana into big business in this satire that may be the worst movie we've ever featured on the podcast. We're going to save most of the commentary on this one for the podcast itself, but it's the brainchild of writer/director/star Steven E. de Souza who went on to write the screenplays for DIE HARD (1988) and 48 HOURS (1982). Now streaming on tubi and Pluto. Cory and Philena give their accounts of the Los Angeles fires, and our speculation on what will happen to TikTok is already woefully out-of-date, but we left it in there anyway (it's worse than we imagined folks). Plus Greg finally gives in to the joys of tubi, and we got listener mail from actual listeners! Thanks for reaching out everybody. We talk a little bit about the passing of David Lynch, but we're saving our love for this artist for our tribute episode to him next month where we discuss the short films of his that are on Criterion Channel, and THE WIZARD OF OZ (1939), a film he was so obsessed with that there's an entire documentary about its influence on him. Ever wondered what goes into launching a new product line? We start off by sharing some laughs and heartfelt stories from our journey of bringing our All About the Joy merchandise to life. Inspired by the relentless support of Rick Costa and insights from content creators like Terry Kaye, we discuss the meticulous process of testing and selecting the best quality items. What does non-toxic masculinity smell like? Apparently, like Thor Bradley, the TikTok sensation known for chopping wood and promoting positive masculinity through his unique candle. Our conversation turns hilarious as we explore the intriguing world of social media marketing with stories of authenticity and engagement. We take a lighthearted nostalgic detour as we reminisce about everything from childhood "tattoos" to the long-lost joy of Saturday morning cartoons. We dive into the simpler times of Cracker Jack prizes, cereal box treasures, and the camaraderie of shared TV moments. Moving from playful memories to serious reflections, we discuss the evolving dynamics of parenting and education, advocating for a more equitable system that better supports teachers and critical professions. Tune in for a blend of humor, heartfelt stories, and thought-provoking discussions that promise both insight and entertainment, and always, so much joy! Thank you for stopping by. All hail Punxatawney Phil! This week, Emily and V go back to the rad 1980s and learn about a fandom they'd never considered before: Starsky & Hutch. It turns out these two slashable dudes helped to forge fandom as we know it today, and the publication of the fic "February 2nd" by Alexis Rogers is a big part of why we all love it when a blond man and a brunet man who are a sunshine one and a grumpy one bone down. Have you considered how to trade slash zines when they were "obscene material"? And will you do your part to launch TWIFH's hip new meme?

Sunday's supposed to be fun-day! But this pilot episode of incredibly popular 1970s cop show "Starsky and Hutch" is anything but! Starring David Soul and Paul Michael Glaser, as well as Antonio Fargas, "Savage Sunday" debuted the mismatched cop duo in 1975.In this episode, the charisma-less and humor-free detectives must deal with the problems caused by a couple of nursing home residents who get the bright idea of protesting the bad food at their establishment by loading their car up with dynamite and going out for a relaxing cup of coffee. But their scheme goes awry when a couple of no good punks from Colorado steal their car and go off on a wild — and potentially explosive — crime spree. Can our stars save the day — and more importantly will their heroics cut into their basketball schedule? And what about the elderly bombers who got us all into this mess? Will someone figure out a way to get them better food before they launch another terrorism plot? Join Áine and Kevin as they try to salvage "Savage Sunday" and somehow end up speaking about Orville Reddenbacher, Kevin's interest in Suzanne Sommers, and Spock's Brain. What happens when you combine most of the cast of Zoolander with a charmingly goofy 70s detective show? Something real bad, it turns out, because Todd Phillips is also there siphoning all that pesky "joy" out of the situation. Or: in which Dorothy knows a lot about a historical slash fandom and this shit ain't it.
The NYPD’s Lone Ranger always sits tall in the saddle in his kemosabe’s memories. Retired Det. Lou Telano can’t help but grin when he recalls all the adventures he had with his late partner John Sepe in the 1960s and ’70s — when the weapons the two plainclothes investigators had ranged from their trusty revolvers and street smarts to, when necessary, long skirts and high heels.“We weren’t the first cops to do undercover work, but we definitely paved the way,” said Telano, also 76, who still proudly refers to himself as Sepe’s “Tonto” as he regales listeners to his radio show on WGBB.The two cowboy cops — the inspiration for the ’70s TV show “Starsky and Hutch” — made an art form out of “decoy work,” in which cops dressed like potential victims to draw out criminals in high crime areas, according to Telano. And their costumes got more and more elaborate each year.
Movie version of the popular 70's tv show. Made for laughs because it's set in the 70's I guess. Did I mention it was set in the 70's?
Antonio Fargas, best known as "Huggy Bear" took some time to talk with Matthew Sardo about his acting career that spans 50 plus years and his current gig as brand ambassador for NBC's COZI TV.
In this episode, hilarity ensues when I chat with director/writer/producer Robert Cohen. Rob is one of the funniest guys you will ever meet, and has some amazing credits to his name ("The Simpsons," "The Ben Stiller Show," "Tropic Thunder," "The Big Bang Theory," to name a few). Rob has worked with some of the biggest names in comedy (Mike Myers, Ben Stiller, Will Ferrell, etc.), but more importantly, one of the biggest names in comedy is modeled after him... the character, Milhouse, on "The Simpsons." Rob talks about how he inspired Milhouse and the early days of "The Simpsons." We also cover other topics like having one's own carbonite statue to writing crank calls for Moe's bar to making the transition from writer to director. A BRIEF BIO FOR ROBERT COHEN The pride of the Canadian Rockies, Rob is an established television and feature writer/producer, and director, who has been successfully working in every format over the last 21 years, including sitcoms, sketch, variety, improvisation, animation and major motion pictures. Some of his TV writing and producing credits include “THE SIMPSONS”, “SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE”, “JUST SHOOT ME”, “THE BIG BANG THEORY” and “THE BEN STILLER SHOW”. Rob has also Created and Executive Produced his own shows for The WB, MTV, Comedy Central and NBC. He is an Emmy Award winner, multiple Cable Ace Award nominee, and sadly, is the model for the character of "Milhouse" on "The Simpsons". On the feature side, his work has appeared in a long list of films, including “AUSTIN POWERS 2 & 3”, “STARSKY AND HUTCH”, “DODGEBALL”, “SHREK 1, 2 and 3”, "MADAGASCAR 1 & 2", “TROPIC THUNDER”, "RIO", "THE SMURFS", "THE CAMPAIGN", and many more. As a director, Rob has filmed shorts for MTV and HBO, music videos for artists such as Aimee Mann, multiple promos and campaigns for Ben Stiller, Tom Cruise, Mike Myers, Will Ferrell, Zach Galifianakis, Robert Downey, Jr., Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures and Twentieth Century Fox. He has also directed a variety of single-camera TV shows, pilots for MTV and Comedy Central, and various commercials selling cheap cars and fat-free potato chips. He wrote and directed the comedic feature documentary "Being Canadian". His turn-ons are honesty and short bios.
