Dr. Steve Goldberg, physician and Senior Clinical Advisor at DecisionRx, and Dr. Jamie Wilkey, pharmacist and expert on medication therapy optimization, explain that medications are the fourth leading cause of death in the country. They emphasize the need to consider genetic information and pharmacogenomics to design personalized medication plans to improve health outcomes.  The DecisionRx solution is integrated into the pharmacist's workflow to improve medication safety, reduce avoidable costs, and enhance communication with providers, pharmacists, and patients. Steven explains, "Our goal is to help people get more benefits from the medications that they use. A couple of starting facts. The US spends about $500 billion-plus a year on medication, and sadly, there are hundreds of thousands of ER visits, hospitalizations, and deaths that occur to people attributable to medications. There are a number of reasons for it, but relative to what we do, it is often triggered by people having genetics that make them not do well with particular medication. It's often the regimen that they're on has too many drugs, and that creates a problem. Finally, and potentially most importantly, they're not taking the time or not given the time to have their medication regimen carefully reviewed by a well-trained pharmacist to help organize things for the best outcomes. And best outcomes, reduce health risks, control chronic disease, and provide treatment."   Jamie elaborates, "We also consider the genetics of people taking their medication, which has been overlooked significantly in the past. Specifically, the way our body metabolizes medication is so different based on ethnicity, background, and gender, and you can't just tell by looking at a person how they'll metabolize medication. We can finally understand what medication is likely to work for a person, which is unlikely to work, and what is probably going to give them a lot of terrible adverse reactions before the patient has to go home and try it." #DecisionRx #Healthcare #MedicationTherapyOptimization #PrecisionMedicine #Pharmacogenomics #HealthcareInnovation  decisionrx.com Download the transcript here

Today's guest is a longtime sales leader who has led teams at companies like Yext, Fuze, and InsideSales.com. Steve Goldberg is the CRO of Salesloft and a Limited Partner at Stage 2 Capital. Steve joins Host Matt Benelli to discuss why having a growth mindset matters,  the importance of getting bad news early, and the difference between “listening for” and “listening against.”Takeaways:For sales reps to be successful in the changing market of technology, it's crucial to adopt a growth mindset over a fixed mindset. Acknowledge changes, learn, and adapt to new sales processes, technologies, and customer engagement methods. Getting the right executive involved in a deal can significantly impact the outcome. However, it should be mapped with the right strategy and timing, considering the customer's journey with your organization. Sharing timely updates, whether good or bad, is crucial in sales. Late bad news can prevent you from taking helpful measures and can lead to surprising turns in the sales process. Communicating openly can save deals and customer relationships. Provide coaching and guidance to salespeople based on their strengths. Let salespeople be themselves while steering them gently toward better performance. Building a great sales team involves guiding them, not dictating how they should perform their job. Change should be perceived as an opportunity to grow and learn. The first step is acknowledging the change, the next is equipping yourself with the knowledge and tools to work it to your advantage.  Even though AI is taking over many routine tasks, it should be seen as a helping tool that makes the sales process more efficient and effective rather than a threat. AI can aid in making salespeople smarter, providing data insights to help maintain a more informed conversation with customers.Quote of the Show:“A strong manager needs to be able to coach the seller on how to do all the right things before the meeting and after the meeting.” - Steve GoldbergLinks:LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/steve-goldberg-2324913/ Salesloft Website: https://www.salesloft.com/ Ways to Tune In:Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/0Yb1wPzUxyrfR0Dx35ym1A Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/coach2scale-how-modern-leaders-build-a-coaching-culture/id1699901434 Google Podcasts: https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9mZWVkcy50cmFuc2lzdG9yLmZtL2NvYWNoMnNjYWxlLWhvdy1tb2Rlcm4tbGVhZGVycy1idWlsZC1hLWNvYWNoaW5nLWN1bHR1cmU Amazon Music: https://music.amazon.com/podcasts/fd188af6-7c17-4b2e-a0b2-196ecd6fdf77 Podchaser: https://www.podchaser.com/podcasts/coach2scale-how-modern-leaders-5419703 YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@Coach2Scale CoachEm™ is the first Coaching Execution Platform that integrates deep learning technology to proactively analyze patterns, highlight the "why" behind the data with root causes, and identify the actions that will ultimately improve business results going forward.  These practical coaching recommendations for managers will help their teams drive more deals, bigger deals, faster deals and loyal customers. We hashed out one of the most important moments that matter for your workforce — and the biggest ROI opportunity for business. Jess likes to call it Onboarding & Ongoing. How can we treat this critical step in the talent journey as a strategic launchpad and not a tactical checklist? Especially as so many organizations profess to become skills-based, to prioritize employee well-being, and to create true connection to corporate values?

My guest for this episode of #HRTechChat was Steve Goldberg, well-known HR industry analyst, advisor and thought leader. Steve and I were having so many interesting conversations of late, that we decided we'd better lay one of these tracks down on vinyl, so to speak. Steve shared a few ideas around the theme of "opportunities where HR technology can make a difference today and over the next several years," and here we are.... True to form, Steve got me to thinking about something in a way I'd never considered. It's loosely related to a concept I encountered many years ago. The idea "is really the byproduct of mashing together the vendor perspective and the customer perspective," Steve said. From vendors, there's a standardization of functionality for this or that need and area of practice in human capital management. And, at the employers that use this software, there's a fit for this standardization, but also a uniqueness that standardized solutions won't address. And, Steve asks, "I'm now thinking, can machine learning help? How do you bridge that gap with machine learning?" That is a fascinating possibility. Another area of interest in HCM today "is what I call line manager enablement," Steve said. "It's a phrase that I started using when I was at PeopleSoft. Even fast forward to today. It's not getting anything close to the attention that I think it needs." His point is sage. Essential stakeholders when it comes to HCM technology, line managers need attention. And what's intriguing is that the dam seems to be breaking, and vendors of technology for HCM are beginning to gear their solutions for the line manager — a welcome development. "The HR department typically only comprises about one percent of the organization," Steve said. "How can HR possibly scale and have a finger on the pulse of the needs, interests, goals, potential issues, and challenges of every employee in an organization, every worker? So line managers have to be viewed as critical in listening to employees' needs, interests, and goals and in balancing these with the needs, interests, and goals of the enterprise." Our chat covered a country mile's worth of ground. We discussed Steve's three P's for artificial intelligence. We threw a bone to Generation X and Baby Boomers by talking about the nuclear accident at Three Mile Island as a parable for the pitfalls in crisis communication at the intersection of internal and external brand (link included for the edification of Millennials and Generation Y). Even the topic of mergers and acquisitions came up, including the cruciality of managing cultural friction successfully during these events. This conversation was truly wide-ranging. A friend of mine and member of our Global Executive Advisory Council, Steve is always a deep fount of knowledge and wisdom on all things HCM. Much of it comes from his decades in the business as a practitioner in HR, an HCM technology vendor executive, and an industry analyst and consultant. (He recently became a board advisor for Azilen Technologies, for example.) Anyone who likes to think deeply on technology, leadership and more in HCM will want to give this episode a view.

Steve Goldberg has worked as a US History teacher for over two decades. Much of Steve’s career has been focused on helping students connect to history in ways that go beyond the dates and facts found in a textbook. Over the course of his career, Steve has taught at a variety of public, private, and charter schools. He received his bachelor’s degree from Duke University for Public Policy, and he later returned to earn a Master of Arts in Teaching Social Studies. Steve also has a law degree from Georgetown Law School and is a member of the Maryland bar. Nearly two years ago, while teaching history at Research Triangle High School, Steve met Holocaust survivor Abe Piasek, and they immediately became friends. Fascinated by Abe's story, Steve interviewed Abe on numerous occasions about his life, and Steve even helped to coordinate a trip to the Holocaust Museum in Washington, DC, for a dozen students from his high school and Abe's family (including his two great-granddaughters). As it turned out, though, that was Abe's first and only visit to the Holocaust Museum, though. Abe passed away in January 2020. Since Abe’s passing, Steve has dedicated himself to sharing Abe’s story with a wider audience. Steve has researched Abe’s life extensively. He has put together a series of talks that weaves together Abe’s videotaped testimony with maps and images to help bring Abe’s story to life. His next talk will be a digital event hosted by the Kenan Institute for Ethics at Duke University. He plans to a do a number more in the subsequent months.
