Today is a special crossover episode. Last week, I interviewed the creator and host of The Learning Leader Show, Ryan Hawk. After a while, all podcast hosts are asked by their listeners to spend some time talking about THEIR OWN journey. But it's weird to talk about yourself, and borderline insane to interview yourself. Luckily, my recent guest (and incredible podcast host) Ryan Hawk asked if he could turn the tables and interview me for a special crossover episode of Creative Elements and the Learning Leader Show. In this episode, we talk about my “Why,” how I tapped into my creativity, my journey with podcasting, the Smart Passive Income acquisition, and why I believe Commitment is the most important creative skill today. Most baseball fans are familiar with the World War II-era All-American Girls Professional Baseball League from the hit 1992 movie "A League of Their Own" - but most do not know that there was another pro women's circuit that played only in the greater Chicago area at around the same time.    Documentary filmmaker Adam Chu ("Their Turn At Bat") joins the pod to discuss the fascinating story of the National Girls Baseball League (1944-54) - formed out of the city's amateur softball talent-loaded Metropolitan League in 1944 - from which the AAGPBL had recruited many of its initial players a year earlier.   Co-founded by area roofing company owner Emery Parichy, Chicago Cardinals NFL football team owner Charles Bidwell and city politician/softball enthusiast Ed Kolski, the NGBL consisted of six heavily sponsored teams (originally the Bloomer Girls, Bluebirds, Chicks, Queens, Cardinals, and Music Maids) - playing in neighborhood baseball parks across Chicago and its nearby suburbs, including Parichy's purpose-built showcase Memorial Stadium in Forest Park.   The league regularly drew over half-a-million fans annually with its exclusively underhand-pitching format (the AAGBPL allowed for overhand), and even featured football legend Red Grange as its commissioner for its first three seasons.   Although the NGBL and AAGPBL never directly competed against each other on the diamond, they did battle fiercely for players - ultimately leading to a pact between the two to not raid each other's talent - and even a truce of sorts when players from both circuits joined together in the four–team International Girls Baseball League (IGBL) in Miami during the winter of 1952–53.

Andy Slavitt, who is a long-term government bureaucrat and not a physician, has a book out attacking President Trump's handling of the Coronavirus in the United States! He also is attacking WE THE AMERICAN PEOPLE claiming we did not sacrifice enough! He never seems to mention that we should not be funding research in China to develop viruses in test tubes so we can make viruses more deadly. He never seems to think all the people who lost businesses and/or jobs, all the mental health crises individuals contended with (and too many ending in suicide), all the anguish of parents and other loved ones dying alone, all the people who didn't catch terrible diseases soon enough because they could not get normal healthcare screenings, or all the children who lost an entire year of school could be “enough sacrifice”. So who is this guy? He is the former acting chief of Medicare and Medicaid for 2 years under the Obama administration and the former senior White House COVID-19 adviser for 5 months under Biden.Talk about carrying this liberal, socialist “wokeness” too far! Eric Deggans, a black NPR TV critic, is very critical of Tom Hanks' lifetime history of making very successful, very entertaining movies, including “Splash”, “Big”, “A League of Their Own”, “Forrest Gump”, “Saving Private Ryan”, “Apollo 13”, “Cast Away”, “Charlie Wilson's War”, “Bridge of Spies”, “The Post”, “Band of Brothers”, “Sleepless in Seattle”, “Toy Story”, “You've Got Mail”, and “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood”. Deggans thinks Hanks needs to start being less “racist” in his movies, and instead needs to start doing a better job of telling the stories of oppressed black men. Well……the reality is Tom Hanks skin color is not black. Perhaps a man with black skin would do a better job of that. Our American Mamas, Denise Arthur, explains divorce does not just affect the parents. It also always involves the children as well. So if one parent behaves quite inappropriately towards the other parent, especially publicly, it is going to impact the children, too. So the Virginia father who dumped 80,000 pennies in the street in front of his ex-wife's house as his final child support payment — well, he told everyone more about himself than he probably wishes he had. The mother, on the other hand, showed true class by donating that $800 to Safe Harbor, a domestic abuse center. That action was so well received others from all over the world also made donations.Stephen Parr goes through example after example of the Socialist Democrats accusing Donald Trump of lying when the very words coming out of their mouth or being printed in the news were the actual lies. Now, Trump is saying the 2020 election was stolen. There is a definite pattern here.Louis Avallone explains how Biden's staff prepares flash cards for him to remember important things, such as he wants the DOJ to reflect his values and his principles because Trump abused power. What? Biden's corrupt values and principles? The Bright Spot is Jon Stewart told Stephen Colbert “I think we owe a great debt of gratitude to science. Science has, in many ways, helped ease the suffering of this pandemic, which was more than likely caused by science.” He went on to say scientists are going to kill us all. When Stewart says something like that, the socialist media will not really be able to continue covering up the truth.

We are back with a very special clip show episode with brand new content featuring Wendy Makkena, Heather Matarazzo, Anne Heche, Baayork Lee, and Tichina Arnold. Wendy Makkena (Sister Act) opens our show with her uncanny impersonation of our fave Penny Marshall who directed Wendy as “All the Way” Mae in the TV series version of A League of Their Own. Heather Matarazzo (Welcome to the Dollhouse) talks to us about donning Carrie Fisher-like tinted glasses in Scream 3 and remembers working with both Debbie Reynolds and Carrie on Roseanne. Anne Heche (Six Days, Seven Nights) gives us the skinny on her dating life that included both George Clooney and the recently single Lindsey Buckingham of Fleetwood Mad fame. Baayork Lee (A Chorus Line) imagines a revival of the musical Seesaw; she danced on point and covered in balloons in the original production opposite the great Tommy Tune, And finally, Tichina Arnold (Martin) shares the pre-CGI magic of the opening scene of Little Shop of Horrors as directed by the incomparable Frank Oz. All that, plus Anne's dad Ralph makes a surprise visit to the pod to show us why Anne is the way she is, and listener Kathy shares a real life story about Frank Oz that will make you sing. In this episode we unpack and discuss the ways in which women who are Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, or dating outside of the race are Problem Pussies. We discuss how their ways of living are not rooted in logical or natural thoughts and ideologies. We also discuss some ways these women can begin to unpack how and why they have chosen to abandon Lineage, Legacy, and Purpose for THEIR OWN, instead of Their Family's, sake. It is a hinderance and unproductive for OUR People and Community. We must not be afraid to speak TRUTH into our community, as only the truth can get us back on track and living in purpose. We all have issues to face and these are TOUGH issues, but we can't just allow outsiders and disconnected beings to fear us into extinction. We MUST be honest and do the work that is so desperately  needed within US to ensure a BETTER Future and World for our Lineages. We MUST think about our lineage 100,000+ Generations from now. That has to be an awareness that comes, naturally. I truly speak from a place of LOVE (Understanding) for Lineage, Legacy, and Purpose for ALL African, Melanin Dripped folks all over the world. Welcome back to A Pod of Their Own, a show by the women of Amazin' Avenue where we talk all things Mets, social justice issues in baseball, and normalize female voices in the sports podcasting space.  This week, we begin by discussing Diamondbacks broadcaster Bob Brenley's racist remark about Marcus Stroman during Tuesday night's broadcast.  Next, we talk about the Mets' continued strong play of late, thanks to Francisco Lindor, James McCann, and Dominic Smith all suddenly swinging hot bats. We also wax poetic about how we are spoiled getting to watch Jacob deGrom every fifth day and witness history before our eyes. In the second half of the show, we cover MLB's plan to crack down on foreign substance use by pitchers and what this means for the game. We also talk about LGBTQ+ representation in baseball and how rainbow avatars on Twitter are an empty gesture without action. The long list of injuries is not just a Mets problem, however. In the second half of the show this week, we talk about how injuries are up all across the league, particularly soft tissue injuries. We also talk about how Kevin Pillar’s gruesome injury is indicative of a baseball-wide issue—pitchers throwing harder and harder with less and less control. Wizards are also in the playoffs and face off the Celtics tonight. And because we love the Nats, they play the Boston Red Sox but not until the home closer on October 3. Broadway is coming back to DC! National Theatre announced their Broadway series kicking off in December of 2021 and it includes Pretty Woman: The Musical, Come From Away, and Rent. The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority concluded that the Amazon “Helix,” exceeds Federal Aviation Administration height standards near Reagan National Airport. Mayor Muriel Bowser announced that vaccinated people in DC no longer need to wear masks indoors or outdoors, in accordance with CDC guidelines. With the exception that if businesses have signage requiring you to wear a mask, you must comply and wear one, regardless of vaccination status. Lafayette Park by the White House re-opened last week, and there is another French guy statute - his name is Rochambeau. We learn about his role in American history. There has been a steady decline of lesbian bars, in the late 1980s, an estimated 200 lesbian bars existed in the United States. By 2019, researchers believed only 15 remain. The Lesbian Bar Project has been supporting and bringing awareness to this decline. DC does have a lesbian bar in Adams Morgan called a League of Their Own. We chat about the new protocols for 2021, what can be done to combat vaccine hesitancy in the league, stadium capacity, and more. And as always, we wrap things up with Walk-off Wins, where each of us talks about what’s making us happy this week, baseball-related or otherwise.  You can listen or subscribe to all of our wonderful Amazin’ Avenue Audio podcasts through Apple Podcasts, where we encourage you to leave a review if you enjoy the show. Welcome back to A Pod of Their Own, a show by the women of Amazin’ Avenue where we talk all things Mets, social justice issues in baseball, and normalize female voices in the sports podcasting space.  This week, we have a conversation with fellow Amazin’ Avenue writer, Grace Carbone. We had planned for this to be a fun episode about films, but of course we had to begin the show by discussing the latest reporting in The Athletic about the Mets’ toxic culture and the years-long poor treatment of women by the front office. But ultimately this was mostly a fun episode about films. We chat with Grace about the upcoming Oscars—her favorite films and performances of the year, her predictions, and our favorite categories. We also each name our favorite baseball films. Finally, we wrap things up with Walk-off Wins, where each of us talks about what’s making us happy this week, baseball-related or otherwise.  You can listen or subscribe to all of our wonderful Amazin’ Avenue Audio podcasts through Apple Podcasts, where we encourage you to leave a review if you enjoy the show. There’s nothing wrong with your eyes: The title of Thomas Dyja’s new book is “New York, New York, New York.” (The triplicate is inspired by the urbanist Holly Whyte’s answer when he was asked to name his three favorite American cities.) On this week’s podcast, Dyja discusses how he went about organizing this sweeping look at the past four decades in the city’s history.“I love timelines,” Dyja says. “I make huge charts to take themes through, so this had an eight-foot-long thing on my wall that basically took certain themes and wove them through all those years.” With all that material, “having to make tough choices was just basic," and "there are things that are on the cutting room floor that I kind of miss. But at the end of the day, I think it conveys that subway-express-train-blasting-along-from-stop-to-stop experience of New York.”The magician, writer and theatrical performer Derek DelGaudio visits the podcast to talk about his new book, “Amoralman: A True Story and Other Lies,” which is told in two parts: The first covers his childhood in Colorado, and the second the time he spent doing a very unusual job.“When I was in my 20s, I worked as what’s known as a bust-out dealer, which is a professional card cheat hired by the house to cheat its customers,” DelGaudio says. “And what I experienced at that house, and what I recognized, I thought was something worth sharing.”Also on this week’s episode, Tina Jordan looks back at Book Review history during this year of its 125th anniversary; Alexandra Alter has news from the publishing world; and Gal Beckerman and Dave Kim talk about what people are reading. Pamela Paul is the host. Here are the books discussed in this week’s “What We’re Reading”:“An Empire of Their Own” by Neal Gabler“My Heart” by Semezdin Mehmedinovic“Le Freak” by Nile Rodgers
