BM. Episode 91. Our number 1 fan Brian is back so we'll totally understand if you shut the episode off right now. Luke and Brian finally hash out why he uses Edward's Iomega Jaz drive disc to transfer analog data to Ampex reel tape to listen to our program live in his 3D printer studio. Thankfully he's finally been bullied into joining a premium streaming service so he can throw that ancient USB stick right into the trash and join us all here in the new millennium! We actually have TWO viewer emails to read this week which is awesome. The first one is from Jeff asking about pubic hair. The second is from Renee asking about dead people. Thank you both - viewer emails make our Sundays fun! On the way over to BM Studios, passing by the most romantic place in the universe, Brian wonders if the show could possibly bond together in holy matrimony but it turns out none of us want to do that. We're all pretty happy with our current matrimony. While Jenn didn't even bring cookies or anything, Katie is dressed up head-to-toe in her TMNT Raphael costume, we go ahead and double check the Future Calendar and find out that it's not Christmas and Brian brought gifts for us anyway! This is why Brian is our NUMBER ONE FAN! Seriously though, it's Halloween and were about to get spooky as crap.. with some FMK's. Would you marry Zuul or Medusa? Have you ever had 'special thoughts' about Anne Ramsey? Edward likes the gigantic lady from Resident Evil, Brian likes the gigantic man from Type O Negative, Katie and Luke like a gigantic mythical creature that lives in Loch Ness and Jenn likes Steven Kings! The Goonies (1985) - Full Review Movie PodcastEpisode 35 - The Goonies is a beloved cult classic from the 80s, directed by Richard Donner and produced by Steven Spielberg. The film tells the story of a group of friends from the "Goon Docks" neighbourhood of Astoria, Oregon, who set out on a wild adventure to find a long-lost treasure in an effort to save their homes from being demolished by a ruthless developer. The movie is widely considered a coming-of-age tale and has been praised for its heart, humour, and sense of adventure. One of the most striking things about The Goonies is its ability to appeal to both children and adults. The film is packed with action, adventure, and danger, but it also deals with themes of friendship, loyalty, and the importance of standing up for what is right. The Goonies is a true family film that viewers of all ages can enjoy. The group of kids are relatable and fun-loving. Each of them has their own unique personality and brings humour to the film. Mouth, the smart-mouthed member of the group, Mikey, the leader of the pack and Data with his inventing skills, bring comic relief to the film. One of the reasons why the film has stood the test of time is its timeless appeal. The Goonies is set in the 80s but it doesn't feel dated. The movie tells a story that is universal, one that can be enjoyed by generations to come. The film's cinematography captures the beauty of the Pacific Northwest and the film is shot with a beautiful colour pallet. The Goonies' adventure through the underground caves, the climax of the film, is a visually stunning scene that you won't forget. The special effects used in the film are still great to watch even after 35 years. As "Goonies Podcast" suggests, The Goonies has a devoted fan base, and it's easy to see why. The movie is endlessly re-watchable and has an infectious energy that makes it hard not to enjoy. The film is a perfect blend of comedy, action and adventure. The soundtrack, composed by Dave Grusin, is memorable and adds to the film's charm. The Goonies' theme song, "The Goonies 'R' Good Enough," is an anthem for the movie and has become a beloved classic among fans of the film. One of the most memorable aspects of The Goonies is the film's supporting cast. The Fratelli family, who are the main antagonists of the film, are a hoot to watch. The performances of Anne Ramsey, Robert Davi and Joe Pantoliano bring the character to life. The chemistry between the Fratelli's is so good that you can't help but to laugh at their antics. Similarly, the pirate ship, the Inferno, is a great example of practical effects and set design. The Goonies is a true cinematic classic, a film that has stood the test of time and has become an integral part of pop culture. The movie's positive messages, sense of adventure, and humour make it a film that viewers of all ages can enjoy. The Goonies Podcast is a great platform to revisit the film and to explore why it is still so beloved today. The podcast is a great way to relive the film, to share memories and to discuss the film with other fans of the movie. If you haven't seen The Goonies, I highly recommend watching it. It's a classic that you don't want to miss.

In 1985, Steven Spielberg, Richard Donner, and Chris Columbus teamed up to make a movie: The Goonies. That's it. That's the intro.  The movie was, needless to say, a major hit, and a childhood-defining one for many ‘80s kids - but not Lobster! Starring Sean Astin, Corey Feldman, Josh Brolin, Jeff Cohen, Jonathan Ke Huy Quan, Kerri Green, Martha Plimpton, and John Matuszak, with Anne Ramsey, Robert Davi, and Joey Pants, the film was selected into the National Film Registry in 2017 for being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant,” and one of the many inspirations for Stranger Things. Now we're joining the search for One-Eyed Willy's buried treasure and staying one step ahead of the Fratelli crime family with The Goonies. This week, Shane and Bryan go back in their time machine to a simpler time in life, and in film making, when you could pay cash for a plane ticket and give false names. It was a time when people couldn't protect their intellectual properties from theft, and when you could write a children's book with an atrocious title. Yes! We are back in the 1980s with the 1987 black comedy, Throw Momma From the Train, starring Billy Crystal, Danny Devito, Anne Ramsey, and Kate Mulgrew. In this film, Larry (Crystal) is a failing author teaching community college-level creative writing. He is also angry that his ex wife (Mulgrew) stole his book. When one of his hapless students (Devito) kills the book thief, Larry is expected to return the favor. How? By taking out his student's mother. You'll laugh. You'll scratch your head. You'll realize the people in this movie are assholes, and Branford doesn't even play music! Matt Kadi is many things; a drummer, a bassist, a photographer.  Since he was a teenager, he has been an active member of the punk scene, from his start playing drums in Monster Squad all the way through playing bass in his newest band Holehog. Along the way, he has also been a member of bands like Great Apes (Asian Man Records), Build Us Airplanes (Sell The Heart Records), Anne Ramsey, Know Secrets, and more, taking him all around the world in the process.   As a photographer, he has taken an active role in documenting the scene, which as we discuss in the episode, is such a vital and inspiring job to take on. Taking inspiration from the likes of Murray Bowles, Matt is rarely without his camera when he attends a live show, and he has taken his passion and turned it into a way to not only express himself artistically, but to supplement his income as well.   We spend some time discussing his time in the bands he's played, and go over some of the inspiration that led him to becoming a photographer.  He tells me about the time he was in a VERY popular music video for a HUGE rock band, and of course we go over some bands he thinks you should have on your radar, and his Desert Island albums   You can hear his new band Holehog here -https://holehogpunx.bandcamp.com/  To hear Monster Squad - https://monstersquad.bandcamp.com/  You can purchase his photography here - https://destroyartinc.bigcartel.com/  To hear some of the music mentioned on this and our previous episodes, check out and follow this playlist on Spotify: https://bit.ly/3oI01ZU  Question The Answers is co-sponsored by The Bad Copy and Sell The Heart Records, be sure to follow them as well to stay up to date on music news, reviews, and to check out the releases on our label.   Sell The Heart Records - https://www.selltheheartrecords.com | @selltheheartrecords (IG) The Bad Copy - https://www.thebadcopy.com | @thebadcopy --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

This time, my guest is Hollywood hyphenate, writer, director, producer, podcaster Donald McKinney, III, who is appearing for the second time on the show. Donald joined me on the premier episode of the podcast where we discussed Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Treasure of the Sierra Madre. This time round, Donald chose everyone’s favorite coming of age treasure hunt story, The Goonies, and I chose the dark German anti-war film The Bridge, both films about a group of teen friends who band together to save their home. And in this episode we ask such questions as: How did Josh Brolin ruin an important shot in The Goonies? Who dubs Dennis Quaid and Kris Kristofferson in German films? What is an Anne Ramsey and would you want to be one? What happened when Richard Donner went to Hawaii? What does Oedipus Rex have to do with it? Is it Captain Blood or The Sea Hawk? What happened to Casablanca when it premiered in Germany? 1985 was a big year for movies! It was a year dominated by flying DeLoreans, Breakfast Clubs, Beverly Hills Cops, as well as massive pop artists like Madonna, Michael Jackson, Cindy Lauper, and Prince. It was also the year of one of the greatest movie adventures of them all! The secret caves. The lost map. The hidden treasure. The Fratelli’s. What an exciting time to be alive as a kid, back when you knew it was time to get home when the streetlights came on and just riding bikes with your friends meant the world was yours to explore...until dinner time at least. 1985 was the year that Austoria, Oregan got put on the map, the “truffle shuffle” became the newest dance move, and the kids from the “goon docks” took the oath that “Goonies never say die!” On this episode, Tim Williams and guest co-host, Ron West, share their memories of this iconic 80's classic! They also share their favorite characters, movie moments, and behind the scenes trivia along the way. Here are some additional behind the scenes trivia we were unable to cover on this episode: The Goonies set became a Hollywood hot spot. Celebrities such as Dan Akroyd, Harrison Ford, and Pee-wee Herman all visited the set while the film was in production. Corey Feldman said that Michael Jackson hung out at the set so often that "he was basically part of the cast." Feldman recalled, "It was like we had the coolest set on the lot. Harrison Ford came and walked the caves with us. We felt like we were in Indiana Jones." When the Fratelli brothers argued, Anne Ramsey really slapped Robert Davi. She was told to hit him as hard as she could. Production designer J. Michael Riva said in a National Public Radio interview that, before shooting the first scenes with the prop map, he thought that it looked good but not old enough, so in his hotel room, he aged it with coffee and (when he couldn't find paint) his own blood. Much of the theme music for the film comes from the 1948 "Adventure of Don Juan" (1948) starring Errol Flynn. Sloth is seen in his dungeon room watching similar swashbuckling films from the 1940s and '50s on TV and imagines himself a hero like Flynn, as evidenced by his sliding/slicing down the sail of the pirate ship near the end, which is also from another Errol Flynn film. Cyndi Lauper co-wrote the theme song "Goonies 'R' Good Enough", and shot a music video that features a cameo by the film's executive producer Steven Speilberg. The 12-minute video basically tells the movie's story as a musical. Cyndi Lauper plays Cyndi (a new Goonie recruit), The Bangles play pirates, and Andre the Giant plays Sloth. Sean Astin stars as Mikey, the youngest of two brothers who are about to move from their home in Astoria, Oregon because their family lacks the funds to stop a developer from taking over the area to expand a lush country club.  This would end many friendships with the other children in the area, which they’ve dubbed “the Goondocks”, and their crew call themselves The Goonies, who are united in their quest for adventure and shenanigans.  Things take an interesting turn when a map is discovered in Mikey’s father’s collection of antiques in their attic, which promises to lead to the secret fortune of the infamous One-Eyed Willy, whose cache of jewels promises to make them rich beyond imagination, once they get though all the pirate booty-traps (er, I mean, booby-traps).  The gang end up finding the entrance to the caves where the loot is hidden, but a rival group of thieves threatens to get there first, and to kill anyone who gets in their way. Steven Spielberg produces, Chris Columbus scripts, and Richard Donner directs.  Also features Josh Brolin, Jeff Cohen, Corey Feldman, Jonathan Ke Quan, Kerri Green, Martha Plimpton, Anne Ramsey, John Matuszak, Robert Davi, and Joe Pantoliano.

The night was... humid... The night was...moist.... The night was...sultry.... The night was...mother's day! The perfect opening for a description of our Mother's Day Special featuring the Danny DeVito and Billy Crystal film, Throw Momma From the Train. Here is the description: Larry (Billy Crystal), an author with a cruel ex-wife, Margaret (Kate Mulgrew), teaches a writing workshop where Owen (Danny DeVito), one of his students, is fed up with his domineering mother (Anne Ramsey). When Owen watches a Hitchcock classic that seems to mirror his own life, he decides to put the movie's plot into action and offers to kill Margaret, if Larry promises to murder his mom. Before Larry gets a chance to react to the plan, it seems that Owen has already sealed Margaret's fate. We realize that this was probably mistakenly categorized as a movie for this holiday, but no matter. It's a film that we both enjoyed watching and discussing from a Rothbardian Anarcho-Capitalist perspective. You get some insights into Robert's writing process and some general banter between the two of us. We hope you enjoy and happy mother's day. Word to your mother. Call her, seriously. We hope you enjoyed the discussion, and we may have a surprise bonus for Patreon supporters as a result. As always, like, comment, subscribe (on YouTube!), share, et al. Never miss an episode. Subscribe on Apple Podcasts to get new episodes as they become available. For show notes and more, please visit: www.actualanarchy.com/22 Robert and I analyze popular movies from a Rothbardian/AnarchoCapitalist perspective. We use movies as a starting point for people who may not be familiar with this way of thinking. Discussion of the plot and decisions that characters make in relation to morality and violations of the non-aggression principle are our bread and butter. We also will highlight and discuss any themes or lessons from Austrian Economics that we can glean from the film. The point is to show what anarchy actually is with instances that are presented in film. We publish new episodes on Sunday just in time for your Monday commute; and occasionally will do specials surrounding holidays or events (elections/olympics).

This week on Alcohollywood, we check out the 1980s Danny Devito-directed comedy Throw Momma from the Train, starring DeVito as a schlubby mama's boy who, wishing the death of his mother (Anne Ramsey, The Goonies) gets mixed up in a Strangers on a Train-like bargain with his struggling writing teacher (Billy Crystal) to kill his mom in exchange for her lamprey-like ex-wife. The result is a surprisingly hilarious and darkly comic buddy piece, with Crystal and Devito giving career-high performances bolstered by a strong, genuinely witty script and nuggets of magical realism in the strange world of the film (one of Devito's hallmarks as a filmmaker). Throw yourself off the wagon with our custom cocktail and drinking rules!
