In November, Americans set aside a day to honor our veterans, but Governor Kathy Hochul declared thirty days to honor transgenderism. This comes at a time when gender surgeries are already surging in the United States. Our politicians should not be normalizing this dangerous and devastating lie. Another troubling trend that needs to be discussed is the fact that despite the overturning of Roe, abortions are increasing across America. After that, we'll explore where New York's congressional delegation stands on school choice. With much to cover in this week's episode, let's get started. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/albanyupdate/support

This week's Tale is, moving forwards, an annual topic I'd like to return to each November - as I do spooky things on Halloween and Christmassy things around Christmas. The week this script was written (13-19 November) was Transgender Awareness week. The 20th also marked Transgender Day of Remembrance - a commemorative day, originally in observance of the unsolved hate crime murder of Rita Hester, and subsequently a day to mourn the loss of trans people the world over that year. Though I try to keep myself out of the tales, as a rule, I see no reason not to tell the tales of other trans people from history once a year - cause Trans Visibility Matters. This year we're going far back into the timeline to discuss an angry poet, a medieval barmaid, a couple of pagan religious orders, an emperor and a warrior prince/princess… Sources this week include: I wrote this script largely from memory, but did refer to This brief write up in the Jewish Virtual Library This Vice Article Adrienne Mayor's The Poison King I referred to Encyclopaedia Brittanica on a couple of details And, easily one of my favourite reads of 2022, Janina Ramirez' Femina. The blog post of the episode is here. Support the show on Patreon for just $2 US a month and get access to exclusive content. I'm currently revamping, and will be dropping re-recorded bonus content weekly for the next two months. December's episode, out on The Enfundu should be out in the coming days. Please leave a like and review wherever you listen. The best way you can help support the show is to share an episode with a friend - Creative works grow best by word of mouth. I post episodes fortnightly, Wednesdays. Tales of History and Imagination is on Facebook, Twitter (for now), Pinterest and Instagram. The show has a YouTube Channel, largely for Audiogram advertisements. Music, writing, narration, mixing yours truly. For more information on Simone click here.
You've probably heard of Ts Madison through her iconic videos on social media, her TV show The TS Madison Experience, or even through her latest feature on Cozy, a track off the new Beyonce album. But before she became known for her content and out-of-this-world confidence as a trans woman, she was a sex worker that was battling stigmas within the same community that was meant to protect her. In this episode, listen as Maddie shares her struggles in becoming unapologetically herself. Because although she's always been very sure of who she is and what she stands for, it was the outside world - filled with transphobia and homophobia – that always made her feel like was inadequately representing womanhood and the trans community. Find out how Maddie overcame these comparisons and societal pressures to make herself happy - becoming the truest version of herself through radical self-love. For years I covered stories about the LGBTQIA+ community with a focus on the transgender medicine, the community and their stories. With over 1.4 million Americans identifying as transgender or non-binary, there is still a lot of work to be done when it comes to showing up for others and ourselves. With anti-trans rhetoric and legislation at all-time highs, now more than ever, listening to the experience of the trans community is vital. As an ally and in honor of transgender awareness week, I reconnected with my friend, Katy Tierney. Katy is an endocrinologist and also the medical director of Center for Gender Medicine and Wellness at Middlesex Health in Connecticut. During our conversation we talk everything from pronouns and not putting oneself in a box to the brain/body connection and how the decisions we make and those made by our lawmakers can have a powerful impact on the wellbeing of our trans community. Plus we break down the resources that are available. From hormone therapy and counseling to primary care, healing and learning how to be comfortable and love the body you're in. To learn more about Katy Tierney and the Middlesex Health Center for Gender Medicine and Wellness, you can connect via their website: https://middlesexhealth.org/center-for-gender-medicine-and-wellness The Human Rights Campaign provides a number of additional resources. https://www.hrc.org/resources As a trauma informed coach, mental health practitioner and ally of the LGBTQIA+ community, I serve to provide a safe place and support trans community and their families. Today I welcome Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) Ann Murdoch. Lt. Col Murdoch is a recipient of the Legion of Merit and Bronze Star and served in Afghanistan. During Lt. Murdoch's entire military career, in fact her entire life, she harbored a secret that could have cost her career, family and even her life. Although she had a male body, and by all appearances she was a married father of two children, she had known her entire life that deep inside, she was really a woman. She was, and is, transgender. As things got to a crisis point, she had no choice but to deal with her gender dysphoria, so she began a three-year journey to transition from living as a man to living as her true, authentic self.

*Originally released in November 2019* We're re-releasing this wonderful episode with Ruby Topping in honor of Pride Month. We're highlighting the voices and stories of our LGBTQIA+ guests whom we've had the privilege and delight to get to know and call our friends. **** In honor of Transgender Awareness week Michelle and Emily share a bottle of Birichino by Malvasia Bianca with their special guest, Ruby Topping. Ruby is a remarkable transwoman who shares her pre-op transition story: the excitement, the pain, the questions, the acceptance, and the joy. Ruby's authenticity, honesty, and vulnerability allow Michelle and Emily to ask those questions you might have been curious about, too. The conversation weaves from explaining the differences between gender identity and sexual orientation to the incredible changes her body has undergone from the hormone treatment and the consideration of gender reassignment surgery. As Ruby eloquently stated, "being me, makes me happy,” she is a remarkable person that you will love as much as we do. Thank you for listening and subscribing to Cliterally Speaking the Podcast. An Executive order was recently signed to state that all Americans who can meet military standards, regardless of gender identity, may serve in the U.S. armed forces. This is life-changing for many transgender troops already serving! One of those troops is a Guardian in the United States Space Force. Hailing from South Carolina, Sabrina Bruce was born a male and joined the US Air Force in 2013. She saw the Military as a very masculine thing to do and believed that serving would help with her gender identity concerns. Although her service was filled with career wins, she struggled with her gender identity until making the brave decision to start her transition in early 2017. This decision lifted a big weight off her shoulders until the “Transgender Ban” in July later that same year. Listen to this story to hear about her journey! *Want to share your story or get our insight on any topic that impacts you the military woman, email us at camobeautystories@gmail.com. Transgender Awareness Week runs from 13th - 19th of November and it is when allies and organisations come together to help raise awareness and increase visibility about transgender people and issues their community faces. On the 20th of November it is Transgender Day of Remembrance, founded by Gwendolyn Ann Smith, originally to honour Rita Hester, a trans woman of colour who was killed in 1998 due to anti-transgender violence, like many before her. On this day we honour all transgender people we have lost of have been subject to anti-transgender violence. Miss Katalyna who is one of the founders of Trans Pride March and proud member of Pacifique X, joins us on the show to share her perspective and talk about the events of the week. As it is also concurrently STI Testing Week, we are joined by Dr. Jason Ong, a researcher and clinician from Melbourne Sexual Health Centre who chats about the state of STIs within the community and testing rates in relation to transgender people. Jason also shares with us some of the key learnings that came out of the "Diversifying Genders" symposium at this years' ASHM Conference chaired by Teddy Cook (ACON) and Christy Newman (CSRH). Hey CineLovers! Welcome and welcome back to CineJunkiePod! This week, we are honoring Transgender Awareness Week and Transgender Day of Remembrance! We reviewed Saturday Church with writer/director Damon Cardasis, featuring Luka Kan, Alexia Garcia, Indya Moore, and Mj Rodriguez. This is a beautiful and uplifting film that focuses on self-acceptance, challenging gender norms, and family. It is more important more than ever to support our trans family, and bring awareness and education to ourselves and others. This is a moving and important film that we highly recommend! As we look back on 2020, there have already been 37 transgender or gender non-conforming deaths this year (according to hrc.org). Take the time to make yourself aware, donate, and talk to your friends and family about transgender awareness. Trans rights are human rights. Today’s episode is a recording of a heartfelt conversation with another visionary and fellow artist, and her friendly neighbor and interesting artist who happened to be visiting. I have had the pleasure of working with Felicia Davis on a couple of short crafty projects, using small recycled and natural found items. She is well known in Albuquerque as an innovative designer, visionary artist, a stimulating entertainer, and action oriented multi-talented facilitator. This woman is admired by many and matched by none, when it comes to getting things done, connecting people with the right other people, and enjoying her life wholeheartedly with humor and full-on sense of playfulness all the while. In this interview, you will also hear from her friend and neighbor, transgender activist and sexual awareness teacher, multitalented performing artist and nonbinary model, Julian Wolf. She is proudly and keenly naughty and nice. I am happy to introduce you to the lovely and fierce, Felecia Davis. It was a real pleasure to have this conversation, and I am looking forward to several future conversations about the subject of a community artist center in Albuquerque, especially as it relates to my own vision of building giant Unity Play stations in the shapes of dragons. More about that later. I hope you enjoyed this episode of Angel’s Authentic Action Podcast. I appreciate your attention, and I welcome your questions comments and suggestions. In honor of Transgender Awareness week Michelle and Emily share a bottle of Birichino by Malvasia Bianca with their special guest, Ruby Topping. Ruby is a remarkable transwoman who shares her pre-op transition story: the excitement, the pain, the questions, the acceptance, and the joy. Ruby's authenticity, honesty, and vulnerability allow Michelle and Emily to ask those questions you might have been curious about too. 30 Minutes spoke with Abby Jensen about Transgender Awareness Month and Transgender Day of Remembrance which takes place each year…
Quick: think of a transgender video game character. You'll probably be pondering that for a while, because in gaming, trans characters are few and far between. When there is representation - trans characters are reduced down to being "trap" jokes or are wrongly interpreted as being trans. Their creators didn't mean for them to be anything but "quirky." When creators consciously create a transgender character, as seen when Amber Scott wrote Baldur's Gate: Siege of Drangonspear, included a four line dialogue with a blink-and-you'll miss them transwoman, things get complicated. People riot online, complain about SJWs, and make violent videos. Anime invented the trans trap joke, but has a more prolific history of telling stories about transgender characters and handling them fairly well. Comics try to, and sometimes fail to properly represent the people they're writing about. This week is Transgender Awareness Week, and November 20th is Transgender Day of Remembrance. Take an opportunity to give this podcast a listen and reflect on how our favorite nerdy media represents trans folk.
