# X-Men '97 Season 2 ReviewRC the Commission and co-host Sam Howe break down the highs and lows of X-Men '97 Season 2, from the show's crowded storytelling and uneven pacing to the emotional fallout around Magneto, Gambit, Rogue, and Wolverine. They also look ahead to Season 3, including where the series might go with Graydon Creed, Onslaught, Krakoa, and a more politically charged mutant conflict.## Key topics- In this episode, RC the Commission and Sam Howe give their overall Season 2 score and both settle on a mixed response, with Sam landing at a 6 out of 10.- They argue that the season felt wildly uneven, especially after the Wolverine standalone episode, which Sam calls the standout of the season.- They discuss how the season seemed to suffer from rewrites after Bo DeMeo's exit, including the possibility that an originally planned 10 episode season was cut down.- They compare Season 2 to Season 1, saying the first season worked better because it had decades of X-Men history to build on, while Season 2 had to build mostly from scratch.- They criticize the back half of the season for feeling overloaded, with too many characters and arcs competing for space, including Polaris, Danger, Gambit, Rogue, Storm, Weapon X, and X-Factor.- They talk about how the season often used characters as plot pieces rather than giving them meaningful development, especially Rogue, Storm, Mystique, and Graydon Creed.- They break down the Gambit storyline and say his return, sacrifice, and emotional payoff felt muddled despite the character's importance.- They praise Nightcrawler's trial scene with Graydon Creed as one of the best character moments of the season, especially for how it handled forgiveness and self hatred.- They say the show lost some of its political edge in the second half, with Graydon Creed's rise to power feeling rushed and underexplained.- They look ahead to Season 3 and expect the series to move toward a stronger mutant versus government conflict, possibly involving Krakoa, Onslaught, and a more adversarial Xavier and Cyclops dynamic.## Timestamps00:00 - Opening the Season 2 review and setting expectations 00:43 - First impressions and overall score 01:57 - Why Season 2 felt more crowded than Season 1 04:08 - Original plans for Onslaught, Polaris, and the Age of Apocalypse 06:05 - Rogue, Storm, and the emotional weight problem 07:31 - Why the Wolverine episode worked and where it fell short 09:24 - Death, resurrection, and why consequences felt cheap 11:31 - Story prioritization over character development 13:13 - The abandoned Onslaught setup and rewritten back half 16:35 - Xavier and Magneto as emotional subtext 18:35 - The season's weakened political viewpoint 20:55 - Graydon Creed, Val Cooper, and rushed government plotting 24:06 - Nightcrawler's standout trial scene 25:42 - Why Danger EXE was the weakest episode 27:48 - Too many new characters, too little time at the school 29:24 - Why Season 1 felt more specific and satisfying 31:18 - Where Season 3 could go from here 34:15 - Xavier and Cyclops as morally gray leaders 39:29 - Thoughts on casting and the MCU's mutant setup 41:34 - How Spider-Man: Brand New Day overstuffed its story 43:14 - Early casting reactions, including Adam Driver as Mr. Sinister 45:36 - Krakoa, Genosha, and the next mutant status quo 47:02 - Favorite part of the season: returning to the X-Men world 49:47 - Worst part of the season: lack of direction and consequence 51:17 - Why Gambit's arc was the biggest disappointment 52:44 - Favorite late-season moment: Xavier's attack on Apocalypse 53:47 - Why Season 3 needs to arrive faster and do more 55:07 - Closing thoughts and Patreon shoutout## Notable quotes> “It is a wildly uneven season.”> “The best writing is so specific that it becomes universal.”> “I need to go back and watch anything from my childhood.”
Mike Carpenter — CEO of Xfactor.io, former President of Global Sales at CrowdStrike — didn't win VP of the Year seven out of eight times by outworking everyone. He did it by finding cheat codes in the data everyone else was ignoring. In this episode, he walks through the X-Factor methodology: how he staffed ops teams that were abnormally large by industry standards, how he cut rep ramp time from 18 months to 90 days by warming territories before a new hire ever showed up, and why he thinks most companies running AI on their CRM are getting confident, wrong answers and won't know it until the numbers drop. Mike also shared: - Why working harder isn't the same as finding an X-Factor - How he used data to uncover the hidden patterns that drive revenue - Why static operating plans break down as businesses scale - How he cut sales ramp time by warming territories before reps entered them - Why causal AI matters more than simply putting an LLM on your data - What it takes to build AI that leaders can actually trust Chapters 00:00 Intro 00:33 Meet Mike Carpenter and Xfactor 04:11 The "X-Factor" mindset that drove 25 years of sales success 08:18 Why working harder isn't a sustainable competitive advantage 10:56 The planning problem that inspired Xfactor 14:57 How AI uncovers hidden revenue opportunities 18:20 Why MQLs are the wrong metric to optimize 23:12 The biggest mistake companies make with AI today 25:52 Where to find Mike and Xfactor Try Xfactor: xfactor.io/
In episode 466 of DREAM THINK DO, we're diving into one of my new favorite words and a concept that's been a game changer for me and my coaching clients: OPTIONALITY. Optionality is the intentional creation of more options. Not waiting to get picked. Not waiting for permission. Not blowing up a perfectly good life just because you're ready for something new. It's intentionally creating more possibilities so you have greater freedom to choose what comes next. And here's the really important part: You don't create optionality because you're expecting something to go wrong. You create optionality because you want more ways for things to go RIGHT. So if you've been successful but you're starting to wonder, "What's next?"... Or maybe you're simply ready to feel a little more FIRE about your future... Let's get after it. MASTERCLASS: OPTIONALITY IS THE NEW JOB SECURITY... If the IMPACT, INCOME, or IDENTITY pieces of this conversation got your wheels turning, I've got a specific experiment for you. Maybe you've spent the last 15, 20, or 25 years getting really good at what you do. Maybe people have told you: "You should teach that." "You'd be a great coach." "You should write a book." "Have you ever thought about speaking?" Maybe you've wondered the same thing. Not necessarily because you want to leave what you're doing... but because you'd love to explore what ELSE might be possible with everything you've learned. That's exactly why I created the masterclass: OPTIONALITY IS THE NEW JOB SECURITY It's designed for accomplished leaders who want to explore how their experience, wisdom, perspective, and reputation can become assets for creating greater impact, income, and optionality through things like coaching, speaking, consulting, and online training. Normally the masterclass is $27. But since you're a DREAM THINK DOer, I want you to have it for FREE. Go to: mitchmatthews.com/options And use the code: DTDGIFT IN THIS EPISODE... We're talking about: Why success can surprisingly make your options feel smaller The three "Success Paradoxes" that can quietly keep high achievers stuck Why you may have stopped exploring possibilities and started evaluating vacancies How the gravity of success can make trying something new feel increasingly expensive Why you don't need to leave what's working to start creating something new The difference between having more choices and having greater freedom to chooseFive areas where creating ONE new option could change your future Simple 30-day experiments that can help you start creating optionality immediatelyWhy your title is something you do, but doesn't contain everything you areThe mysterious "X Factor" that starts showing up when you intentionally create new possibilities Why your title is something you do, but doesn't contain everything you are The mysterious "X Factor" that starts showing up when you intentionally create new possibilities And most importantly... We'll help you identify ONE small but significant experiment you can start this week that future you might thank you for. Now I want to hear from YOU. Where would you love to create more optionality? And what's one experiment you're going to try? Leave a comment at: https://mitchmatthews.com/466

Guilt can feel like proof that you care—but when it becomes your default way of relating to work, family, and yourself, it quietly turns care into obligation. AJ sits down with psychiatrist Jennifer Reid to explore why high achievers, caregivers, parents, and people pleasers often carry more responsibility than they can actually control. They unpack the difference between healthy guilt and chronic guilt, why disappointment does not mean a relationship is broken, and how perfectionism, social comparison, external validation, and rigid ideas about parenting or masculinity can keep people trapped in shame and self-criticism. You'll learn Jennifer's “guilt equation,” how to recognize unrealistic expectations, why self-compassion is not the same as lowering your standards, and how to make decisions based on values instead of guilt. This conversation offers a practical way to stop taking responsibility for everyone else's emotions and start creating healthier boundaries, relationships, and definitions of success. Who do you believe is the Tigers X-Factor and are you taking the field?
We've all found ourselves leaving a conversation and suddenly realizing the other person did not have any interest in us at all. I've thought at times, "What am I even doing here? This person just wants to hear themselves talk." You may be tanking your sales and not even knowing by having sub-par listening skills. In this episode of Wisdom's Table, I dive deep into what I believe to be the true X factor in sales: effective listening skills. Over my 20 years of entrepreneurial experience, I've noticed a significant gap in discussions around sales techniques—specifically, the importance of listening. While many focus on charisma, appearance, or how to handle objections, I argue that the ability to listen actively is what truly sets successful salespeople apart. I'm covering 4 keys to great listening skills that will not only help you build good relationships, but help you win the sale. TIMESTAMPS 00:00:01 - Welcome to Wisdom's Table Introduction to the podcast and its focus on growth in various aspects of life. 00:00:26 - The X Factor in Sales Introduction to the concept of listening skills as the key to successful sales. 00:00:57 - The Importance of Listening Discussion on the lack of emphasis on developing good listening skills in business. 00:01:39 - Personal Anecdote: A Missed Opportunity Sharing a story about a meeting where one party failed to ask questions, highlighting the importance of curiosity. 00:04:25 - Understanding Value Through Questions Exploring how asking questions can reveal the value someone brings to the table. 00:05:28 - Common Reasons for Poor Listening Identifying reasons why people may not listen well, such as nervousness or lack of awareness. 00:06:31 - Active Listening Skills Introduction to practical active listening skills to improve conversations. 00:07:43 - Body Language Matters The significance of body language in demonstrating engagement and openness. 00:10:12 - Reflecting Back What You Hear The importance of paraphrasing and clarifying to ensure mutual understanding. 00:12:28 - Asking Follow-Up Questions Encouraging the use of follow-up questions to keep conversations balanced and engaging. 00:15:27 - Avoiding Assumptions The necessity of not assuming what others are thinking and the importance of asking clarifying questions. 00:18:16 - Building Relationships Through Listening How active listening fosters relationships and enhances business interactions. 00:20:21 - Pro Tips for Effective Communication Advice on timing your speaking and editing your contributions in conversations. 00:22:37 - Conclusion and Call to Action Wrapping up the episode and inviting listeners to join the next session for prayer.

Polaris gets canned from X-Factor and comes to hang out with the X-Men, where Professor Xavier is not squashing the rumors that he was straight up in love with Magneto. When the Danger Room becomes sentient - and a slinky lady robot! - the next phase of Xavier's dream for mutantkind is born, and it involves operating an LLC.Before that: a ton of news. A bunch of trailers, including Resident Evil, The Other Mommy, The End of Oak Street and Clayface. Casting news, including Kenneth Branagh playing a goblin. And scuttlebutt and rumors coming from the early days of SDCC, including what Marvel may or may not be bringing to Hall H. Also: did Sam the Eagle vote for Trump? And is Gollum a serial killer? If you don't care about any of that skip right to 1:30:00 (I told you it was a lot of news).Want your questions answered on the show? Most people think persuasion starts with your message. It actually starts with your audience. AJ sits down with entrepreneur and marketing expert Russ Ruffino to explore why empathy—not charisma or credentials—is the foundation of influence. From storytelling and copywriting to public speaking, coaching, and personal branding, Russ Ruffino explains why the best communicators begin with the problems people are already thinking about instead of talking about themselves. They also discuss overcoming the fear of putting yourself out there, building confidence on camera, charging based on outcomes instead of time, and why creating meaningful impact is the fastest path to influence, trust, and long-term success. Most people think honesty is simply about telling the truth. It's much more than that. AJ sits down with philosopher and ethics professor Christian Miller to explore why honesty is becoming harder in the age of AI, social media, and online influence. From cheating with AI and fake news to white lies, self-deception, and accountability, Christian explains why honesty isn't just about what we say—it's about the motivations behind our actions and the habits that shape our character. This conversation explores the psychology of dishonesty, why good people still lie, when honesty should give way to compassion, and the practical steps anyone can take to build more trust in their relationships, work, and everyday life.
