How do decades of spiritual practice shape your heart when death comes knocking? In this powerful episode, we hear from our longtime friend Yasso who, after forty years of devotion, is now facing terminal illness with stunning clarity and peace. What makes this conversation especially moving is how Yasso's fearless, attitude of gratitude so closely mirrors the timeless wisdom of Śrīmad Bhāgavatam, where the dying King Parīkṣit embraces his final days with devotion, humility, and total absorption in the divine. Also in this episode: the epic homecoming of Lord Ram and the tear-jerking reunion with his brother Bharat, whose 14 years of radical simplicity (cow urine barley, anyone?) reflect the deepest brotherly devotion—zero envy, all love. And we also explore how devotional art can lift consciousness, using a vivid verse from the Śrīmad Bhāgavatam as our canvas. This one goes deep—real life, real death, and real bhakti. Key Highlights: * A rare window into how a bhakti yogi prepares to leave this world * Lord Ram returns to Ayodhya—no one has ever waved a chadar with more love * No envy, no ego—just love: the bond between Ram and Bharat * Why Krishna art > overpriced splatter art * Chant Hare Krishna and don't criticize. Boom. That's it.

This week on the podcast Beards and Dun have the privilege to sit down with the real life Walter Mitty, Bart Yasso. Bart personifies to a tee, the adventurist personality type. Working for Runners World starting in 1987, Bart developed the ground breaking Runner's World Race Sponsorship Program, which ultimately involved 7000 races and four MILLION runners per YEAR. From a Bun Run with a nudist colony, developing the the Yasso 800, and a "mile high" mix up, the stories Bart can tell could be an entire podcast series on their own.

Another week of trying to figure out when the heck to fit all of the miles we are supposed to be running into our schedules! Kelly is already in planning mode for marathon weekend, and has started making dining reservations so that the DNS runners can be sure to get a full meal in pre-race, instead of resorting to a “girl dinner” in the hotel room. Katie shares a race recap from the NYRR pride run – how early do you think she got there? We all made it to the track this week for some speedwork, and Kelly and Mike took on some Yasso 800s in hopes of figuring out where to put their time goals for this marathon. We chat about our fueling strategies for long runs and where we could improve, and the new fuels we are experimenting with as the long runs get longer. Mike had some luck and won a contest from salt sticks, and talks about the fuel he will be trying out. As always, we have managed to acquire new running gear this week (what online shopping problem) – so Kelly shares about the Brooks gear she ordered, Mike tells us about his new self-torture device, and Katie talks about her new hats! As always, you can find us on instagram under the handles: @theDNSrunners @gokellyeli @katie_bell31 @mike_pappas_fritas

Plus, see which find received an 11 on Lisa's grading scale! So stop everything, push play now, then head on over to our Foodcast page to get the details on the products mentioned in this episode.
Today we're talking about the Yasso 800's developed by a guy named Bart Yasso. I was lucky enough to meet him after he gave a talk before the Salt Lake City marathon back when I was in residency about 20 years ago. In any event, this workout is a useful way to analyze your fitness and determine your marathon pace. Yasso 800's can be really helpful to an injured runner who's returning to running when trying to figure out how fast you should run your post-injury marathon. Today on the Doc On The Run Podcast we're talking about how to use the Yasso 800s to test your marathon fitness after you've recovered from a running injury.
Amanda Klane and Drew Harrington are childhood friends, and co-founders of Yasso; they defied the advice of experts by creating a recipe for frozen Greek yogurt treats, and building Yasso into a $200 million dollar brand. When Amanda got the idea in 2009 to freeze Greek yogurt into popsicles, she reached out to Drew, who had already started a business selling—and there's no way you could guess this—inflatable beer pong tables. The two friends set out to make a high protein, low-calorie yogurt bar, and despite initial bad reviews from family, and a series of “No's” from prospective manufacturers, they eventually landed Yasso onto the shelves of Costco and BJ's. It wasn't long before they faced competition from the top players in the freezer aisle, but Yasso continued to grow, and was recently acquired by one of the biggest consumer goods companies in the world. If you ever imagined a life travelling the world, then running may be the way to make it happen - or at least that's how it happened for retired Chief Running Officer of RunnersWorld Magazine, Mr Bart Yasso. He is one of few people to have run a marathon on every continent. He has racked up an impressive amount of kilometres, or miles we should say, and played a fundamental role in the running movement that took the world by storm in the 70's, 80's & 90's - the running world that we get to enjoy as a result of today - diverse, inclusive and plenty full of participants.Mr Yasso has been running since before women we're even allowed to legally participate in marathons and he was around when the first wheelchair race took place at the Boston Marathon. He's not known as the "Mayor of Running" for nothing, Bart Yasso, through his love for running, has inspired 1000's of people to lace up and hit the road. But out of all the memories that he holds dear, it's those of the people and the global community that he got to share it all with.In this episode we cover: Running as a vehicle to travel and experience the world. The Comrades Marathon, the greatest Footrace of all time! The memories that we're able to create through running & the impact of running community. How running has gown to be more inclusive, "when I started running people went to races to run fast, now, people run to finish and to enjoy the experience".The Yasso 800's - Marathon Time Predictor Workout.Running longevity and staying in the game, “I told myself I'm going to be a runner for life”. Running easy to run faster.Burro racing. The boy who wanted to be Bart Yasso; a story of how you are inspiring people you don't even know about by being a runner and JUST being YOU.Listen and experience the world of running.Sign up to patreon to view exclusive content from this episode including supporting images + the email that the legendary Bobby McGee sent to Bart https://www.patreon.com/MakingARunner
Bart Yasso, the Mayor of Running, the retired Runner's World Chief Running Officer and the creator of the “Yasso 800's," was an absolute treasure to have on the Trillium Running Podcast. He joins us this week to chat about the runs he's taken and the paths he's crossed, reflecting on the people and places he loves in the world of running. There are few legacy sessions with more legs than the Yasso 800s workout. In the fall of 2001, Amby Burfoot wrote an article in Runner's World about a session that the magazine's races services manager, Bart Yasso did repeatedly in preparation for a marathon. He'd been doing this session 3-4 times a cycle for over 15 years. It's simple as shit: 10 x 800m in your marathon goal time with tequal rest. So if you want to go sub 3, you do 10 x 800m in 3:00 w/ a 3 min rest. In this episode, we take this session to task. Or, more accurately, I do. I get a little spicy in this one so beware. I have some strong opinions about it. In Bart's defense, he didn't proselytize this session, Burfoot did. & he didn't do it as a predictor session, he did it as a progressive load session, very different animal. So perhaps my ire was misguided. But as I point out repeatedly, I am not banging on about Yasso, I am banging on about the way this session has been appropriated & infantilized. You be the judge. Regardless, we have a lot of fun with this one & we decided to rename the workout...or create an adapted version...I am not really sure. Last week I said "Stories Abound." This week, "Joker's Abound." At least I'm consistent. & speaking of consistency, two notes before we send you into the meat of this conversation: 1.) This episode is a day late to be posted because I didn't get it scheduled correctly before I headed out to the Boston Marathon. What an amazing weekend. But more on that next week. 2.) We added some bonus content. If you listen through to the end, there is a hidden track that actually began this conversation but was so far afield from the main thrust of the topic that we had to cut it. But at the last minute, I thought I should add it as a bonus. Let us know if you like the banter. So, in all it's raging glory, I present to you the episode we call Ted Lasso 800's. Godspeed, my friends, godspeed.

In this week's episode, Seán and Eric talk about doing their last long run before the Dublin Marathon (with two weeks to go). Why it is traditionally three weeks to taper before a marathon, what do the followers of the Any Given Training Day Podcast think about tapering/how they are approaching it before Dublin, and what the research says is the best approach. We also discuss using gels and the Yasso800s approach to determine your marathon pace. As Seán promised on the podcast, an example of the Yasso800s is below:Yasso 800s is a track workout that involves running repeats of 800-meters or two laps around a standard track. The original Yasso 800s workout includes ten repeats of 800 meters, with running recovery laps for an equal amount of time as your fast intervals. If the goal is a 4-hour marathon: take 4 mins to do 800m and recover for 4 mins.If you can run the 8oom in 2:50 x 10, you are, in theory, a 2-hour 50-minute runner. Not scientific proof that it works, but… if it's worked for you, great!

"Then he yells, 'Don't go slow; go fast!'" This advice from Nick Mai's dad seems to permeate Nick's approach to running. Nick didn't grow up running competitively or biking. In fact, he just learned how to ride a bike this year! But for all those who know his approach to running, it comes as no surprise that Nick is already whizzing around the city on his new Trek. Nick is an avid runner who threw himself into both the sport and the surrounding community. In this episode he speaks on how he became a regular runner because of the friends he made at Pacers DC Run Club. (These same friends convinced him to run a marathon. Great pals.) He speaks on learning new skills as an adult, overcoming injury, and his favorite spot to log a few miles. Oh, and we nerd out about Yasso 800s and shoe technology a bit at the end. Thank you so much for listening at attempt number 2 of this podcast. I hope you enjoy!

It's our 5th Anniversary this month. As part of the celebration, we will post flashback episodes all month long to celebrate and say thank you. If it were not for you, our Runcation Nation community, we would not have had this show for the last five years, had some of the most amazing experiences, and created lasting friendships in this community. Next up is part 2 of our interview with a friend of the show, Bart Yasso! RUN This week, we share part 2 of our talk with Bart Yasso. He is known as the Mayor of Running and Chief Running Officer at Runner's World until his retirement in 2017. This week, he talks about the Yasso 800s, runners who inspire him, and virtual races. Thank you, Bart, for your “wit, wisdom, and insights!” Find out more and connect with Bart Yasso here: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Bart-Yasso-118295040323/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/bartyasso?lang=en Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/bartyasso/ Website: http://www.bartyasso.com EAT This has been a rough winter for many of our running friends. There is nothing better than a recipe that warms the soul to celebrate that accomplishment when it comes to getting out there for a run in the cold. A great Irish comfort food dish that we love is Shepard's Pie. There is a great place in Disney Springs we have featured on the show before, Raglan Road, with a delectable and meaty version of this dish. We have featured one of our favorite cookbooks, The Healthspan Solution, on past episodes, including chatting with authors Ray Cronise and Julieanna Hever on Episodes 108 and 109 last year. This week we made the Shepherdess Pie from the book. We review it in this episode and talk about what made it so hearty and satisfying as a Vegetarian dish. You can get the Kindle or hardcover book at our Amazon affiliate links below. It does not cost anything additional to purchase the book through the links we list, but it does help support the show. The Healthspan Solution Kindle Edition: https://amzn.to/3r15Xhx The Healthspan Solution Hardcover Edition: https://amzn.to/2ObqgtV DRINK We talked about a couple of favorite holiday drinks that warm the soul back in Episode 88 of our show. We typically make a Mulled wine each year for Thanksgiving and Christmas to share with the family. It can help you celebrate a live race you've run this winter or help you warm up after a run in particularly harsh winter conditions. We linked to a recipe online but did not share our recipe in that particular episode. This week, we feature our recipe with an option for reduced sugar. Ingredients (Serves 6-8 cups of wine) 1 - 750 ml bottles of a favorite red wine ( we selected a barrel-aged Cabernet Sauvignon 2 oranges- zest and juice of one and the other sliced in rounds to use for garnish 8 whole cloves 4 cinnamon sticks 2 whole nutmegs *Normally a cup of sugar and water are added to sweeten the recipe. To make a more healthful version, you can leave this out and drink it without sweetening or use agave nectar or honey to taste with each serving. Directions Pour wine into the instant pot or crock pot. Add the zest of the orange. Squeeze the juice of the orange into the wine and add the whole orange into the pot. Cook on low for two hours. Pour into mugs, stir in agave nectar or honey to sweeten, if desired, with a garnish of an orange slice and enjoy! If you choose to indulge, please drink responsibly by having a designated driver or taking a rideshare service. Stay safe, Runcation Nation! We were lucky enough to meet up with fellow podcasters, have dinner with a great member of the Runcation Nation we met through the Extra Mile Podcast group on Facebook, and run a PR in the 8K since our last attempt at Gasparilla Distance Classic. At the expo, we had a surprise, Bart Yasso!! He announced our race as well. He is famous for his work at Runner's World and the Yasso 800s. You may have heard him on our show on Episodes 154, 155, 156, and 187 when we returned to the Anchorage RunFest and got to sit down with him in person. EAT Chix on the Beach was right next door to our hotel. It had a fantastic beach view from its patio, tasty seafood, and excellent service! We had the She Crab Soup, Crab Dip, and a Steamer of shrimp, sausage, corn, and potatoes. We finished the meal with Key Lime Pie. Shout out to Samantha, our server, who was patient on a night when the restaurant was at capacity, thorough, kind, and had excellent recommendations from the menu throughout the entire meal. If you get a chance to run this race weekend, stay on the beach and try this place out. We strongly encourage you to call and make a reservation because this is one happening spot! DRINK Smartmouth Brewing Company was a great time with the Will Run For Podcast crew. They have a theme that captured our hearts. While we only had their nonalcoholic offering, Jimmy's Grandpappy's Sparkling Lemonade, our fellow podcast hosts tried some tasty offerings from Smartmouth like Relinquish My Waffle Brown Ale and Safety Dance German Pilsner. We can't wait to return to this Virginia Beach location and try both during next year's race weekend. The crew said they were mighty tasty! THAT'S A WRAP! Thank you for listening! And then I wanted to make my mark. I wanted to be part of whatever the Shiesly folklore was, I wanted to be part of that chapter.”“Walk in their footsteps, know who they are, know their business, understand what they're trying to get out of their life, even beyond the business.”“People and how they're going to feel when they're brought along is important and then sharing that vision.”“Make it more about them versus about you and what you want to get done”“We can debate the how, but let's agree to the what”“If you believe in that conviction, you fight for it. But I think margin matters now.”“It was very important for us to be more than a dessert brand. We wanted to be more than things that are sold on a stick, so we had to migrate that brand from dessert to snack.”“If there's something that as a founder keeps you passionate and keeps your juice going and that you want to be involved in, put it on the table, discuss how that's going to go with the CEO and how you manage your way through that.”“I would ask both sides, really do your homework, know each other, know people that know them informally, informally inside of work, outside of work, how are they in the good moments and the tough moments.”“I'm really all about take care of yourself, prioritize that. Whether that's a workout, whether that's yoga, swimming, meditation, make sure that's there because you're going to need that, and your team's going to need to feel your energy day in, day out because sometimes you're going to have to give it to them and you can't give it to them unless you have it.”

In this episode we speak with Bart Yasso. Bart Yasso is known to be the mayor of running. We ask Bart how he started running, how he was able to make it his job; we talk to him about racing in all seven continents, his favorite races, his books, the Yasso-800s, and learn about his infectious love for the running community allows him to inspire even more. Klaas' lief is 10 dagen aan het mediteren, dus hij is alleen met zijn dochtertje. Toch vindt hij tijd om hard te lopen en training te geven. Koen traint op marathonwattage en is blij met de Yasso-tool.
In today's podcast I talk about: Got sub 3 on paper based on my Yasso repeats. Happy Dhanteras and Deepawali. Route recce for Hyderabad half marathon. Reviews and connects. Videos related to camp and workout. Studying Breakout principal.
Today's guests are Drew Harrington and Amanda Klane, co-founders of the frozen greek yogurt brand Yasso. Drew and Amanda have been friends for a long time; since kindergarten, to be exact. They were also both Division 1 athletes in track and soccer, respectively. Nutrition is a very important component of athletic success, but let's not pretend that athletes are immune to cravings. Drew and Amanda would try and mitigate these cravings by searching for items in the ‘better-for-you' categories, but when it came to ice cream the choices were seriously lacking. So what's better than creating a great-tasting ice cream alternative? Creating it with a lifelong friend. And if that ice cream alternative should someday surpass Klondike bars in terms of units sold? Well, that's the sweetest reward of them all. Listen in as we cover everything from their initial strategy to give away thousands of free bars in order to cultivate a grass-roots following, how they persuaded their friends with a beer in exchange for product testing, and why when creating a new product, they have to keep it 100. 100 calories or less, that is.
Klaas is fan van Yasso's. Koen had er nog nooit van gehoord maar deed graag een training mee. Verder is Klaas bezig met ouder worden en Koen leest Connie Palmen. En uiteraard hebben de heren het over Londen en de Kustmarathon.

This week's Roundabout Roundup is a very tasty one. Nicole's shouting out her favorite Greek restaurant in Los Angeles, Papa Cristo's [https://papacristos.com/]. Catherine's also going Greek, with a recommendation for Yasso Greek yogurt bars [https://yasso.com/products/bars/]. And Terri's recommending a breakfast that might look like cat food, and sound like baby food, but tastes pretty darn good: Mush ready-to-eat oats [https://eatmush.com/products/mush].

Dubbed the "Mayor of Running," Bart Yasso is one of the best-known figures in the sport, but few people know why he started running competitively, how it changed or rather saved his life. As the Chief Running Officer for Runner's World Magazine for over 30 years, Bart was the public face of Runner's World at races in the United States and abroad. Many runners have told Bart that he had the greatest job in the world, getting to travel to races around the world and meet runners of all abilities. He is one of the few people to have completed races on all seven continents from the Antarctica marathon to the Mt. Kilimanjaro marathon, but it's not the details of the races he recall it's the people he meets. During this interview he shares some of these memorable experiences along with how he feels about "Yasso 800s", a marathon-training schedule used by thousands around the world. One of the icons of the sport, Yasso has been inducted into the Running USA Hall of Champions, He has also completed the Ironman five times and the Badwater 146 through Death Valley and cycled, unsupported and by himself, across the country twice.it was an honor for me to speak with him. . Memorable quotes Never Limit where running can take you- physically, geographically, emotionally, spiritually, - the sport has done a lot for me There are no shortcuts in running, you have to do the hard work if you want to run faster You can get a lot more out of your body than you think and running proves that First thing I did when I walked into my office, was I said to myself, today I have to get someone who today isn't a runner, to run. I don't have a sign that says, Hi I'm Bart Yasso, tell me your running story, but people do come up and tell me their story Who would not want to run with a youngster, in their first race, and call that your job If a sport is powerful enough to suppress something as evil as apartheid, that's my sport I really wanted to travel the world and never thought that running would be the vehicle to take me where I ended up running races, it really was a dream come true The coolest thing in the sport of running, I got to physically witness, women coming into the sport .
