Each day, millions of doctors write prescriptions for drugs intended to help their patients. But what if many of our modern health ailments, like depression, anxiety, and chronic pain, would benefit as much, if not more, from a social prescription? What if nature, art, movement, and service could reduce our symptoms, decrease doctor visits, and improve our health? These are questions Julia Hotz set out to answer. Julia is author of the book, The Connection Cure: The Prescriptive Power of Movement, Nature, Art, Service, and Belonging. By sharing research findings, as well as people's stories from around the world, we get to see a whole other side of medicine. After reading her book, I'm more convinced than ever we need to seek out and prioritize healthy social time. Nancy Fellows from Creatful introduced Laura Sheppard to Maryna Melnyk who launched a Ukrainian Art Class earlier this year. Maryna is a guest currently staying in Petersfield, and the art classes are held at St Laurence's Church on Fridays.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Need a creative outlet? Try an art class! Rexburg's Art Specialist Twyla Mahelona offers classes for all ages and skill levels.
Growing up, Joanne Robinson was creatively encouraged in primary school and loved to draw for hours at home. However, her passion for art was dampened when she entered secondary school and was told by an art teacher that she wasn't very good. This negative feedback led Joanne to believe that she didn't have a talent for art, and she abandoned her artistic pursuits. Joanne joined the Royal Air Force and years later, while recuperating with a broken back, learned to paint and rediscovered her love for art.Joanne learnt that drawing and painting can be taught, and the importance of practice. Just like musicians are encouraged to practice regularly to improve their craft, artists also need to dedicate time and effort to honing their skills. Joanne's initial motivation to start The Little Art School stemmed from her own experience of how drawing and painting changed her life. She wanted to provide the same opportunity for others who may have doubted their abilities. By offering structured classes for both children and adults, Joanne and her business partner Melissa created a space where individuals could learn and grow at their own pace. In this episode, I talk about a new featured that I didn't know was added in the Uber app. I go over about what it is, and am hoping that it's not another one of those sneaky tactics that they're now using to manipulate us to accept lowkey, low-ball orders. - Follow My Deliveries on IG & Tiktok - @KissKutt on IG • http://instagram.com/kisskutt @KissKutt on Tiktok • http://tiktok.com/@kisskutt - My Socials - @MsDjHoodie on Twitter • http://twitter.com/msdjhoodie @MsDjHoodie on IG • http://instagram.com/msdjhoodie @MsDjHoodie on Spacehey • http://spacehey.com/audreyalkoinva - My Podcasts - The Why Run?! Sup peeps?! In this episode, I am delivering for a new store that popped up on the Walmart Delivery app; and WHILE I was delivering, I'm telling you all the story about what happened to me on that particular morning while doing a pharmacy order from Roadie. Rob says it was Spiritual the way my phone was buggin' out. I go in a little bit about why we should look after one another. In this episode, I decided to do rideshare on my way to Phoenix. And on my way to Phoenix, I was rejecting orders and rideshare offers on the highway that were too low and not worth the miles. I did, however, take one rideshare offer; and already I was not happy with it. hey guys welcome to the chat Club um a bit of news actually so I've been told by my uh by spreer that who host my um my podc this podcast all my podcasts actually that I'm not allowed to do music so as a musician this it's been a bit of a blow so I haven't update uploaded anything for a couple of days so I'm not allowed to play you any of my lovely piano music I'm not allowed to play you any ringtones I'm not allow I can talk about music but I can't actually play it so I can't teach so it's been a real blow actually and I've really been struggling to think you know how do you how do you sort of change a whole podcast I've been doing this podcast for a very long time um so there'll be a few changes I'm afraid I might even change the name of it actually I'll probably have I think I'll have to I can't I can't not do free ringtones and have a podcast called free ringtones can I so lots and lots of changes I'm afraid and I I do hope that you'll stick with us um I'll only be up to updating a couple times a week two or three times a week um because guys I've got very exciting news actually one door closes another one opens we set up the TA Academy of Arts taay Club Academy of Arts um which is now live on the site official launch isn't until Saturday members only I'm afraid we've already got four five I think six members we've already got which is very very exciting and we haven't even started yet so I'll be doing live art so I realize it's a little bit different to music and you may not be interested in it but truly honestly it's a totally wonderful platform that we've managed to develop in quite a short space of time actually now I've got a lot of videos thousands of them on YouTube so it's not too much of a stretch for me to formalize everything into a much more streamlined platform that actually specifies the genre that I'm working and I think it's going to work really really well because the thing is when you do all sorts everything I think people do get a bit confused so the website which I have been slaving over for the last four days um along with lots of art actually because if you go along to my devant tart you'll be able to see all the artworks but the um the website I'm hoping I'm hoping I mean you know what you think in the morning looks really good by bedtime you can't you think oh God that's awful so it's been really really hard but the over I mean generally speaking there'll be three three different age brackets that I'll Target but you know these things overlap that's a problem isn't it so the and and the little you can't join unless you're 18 anyway so most of it going to be mom supervised or dad supervised so you know everyone's going to be watching everything so it's all really familyfriendly so there will be no expletives and there will be no nudes so I've closed down the only fans news nude gallery as well um we there was a lot of art from the last well you know I'm an artist I've been painting nudes for many years you can't really sell them anymore and I thought well let's let's go the other route which is setting up the rat gang crew um who are who they've proved so popular on De into art really really popular so I'll be doing one of those a day one um illustration and I'll be sharing those and I'll be talking about how I make these illustrations on my iPad on the TV show and that'll be for the mid it's a sort of mini midi and Maxis is how I'm going to describe them so the minis are roughly sort of 3 to six maybe maybe 3 to 5 because it's very it's a big gap isn't it from 3 to six um but as I say lots of O overlap then the mides which will be you know younger younger no older children and how would I describe it even you know maybe 10 to no 8 to 13 something like that I've already missed out three years so ult guys so difficult um so you see what I mean I I don't want to overs specify the ideal age I think that's a big mistake I've seen other places do that I mean what I could do is I could recommend an age in the description of each video and say you know roughly but of course I'm a grandma and I don't see the kids every day so I don't know what sort of age specific projects would be you know but hopefully you'll be able to sort of you know follow things they're all going to be on the same block the same video at the moment the same show I should say the same TV show at the moment but eventually they'll all have their own different ones okay um and eventually they will be you know linked to a YouTube but they'll all be unlisted just because YouTube is faster than the you know the people that are streaming me um and I that's a bit I think so anyway it's a little bit longer to upload or a little bit longer to load rather the website and I've had to really stream it all back on um the mobile anyway I'm talking giberish because I'm absolutely exhausted and I just stopped myself from swearing there now that we've gone all kid-friendly so there's nothing on the site that is inappropriate for children obviously some of the artwork that I'll be doing for the midies might involve for example monsters I did um a series of monsters last week for my Deviant Art and there kind they're cartoons but you know they may not be appropriate for a child of delicate um Constitution especially at bedtime do you know what I mean screaming because they're possessed by um one of my drawings so we don't want that so always I think I would recommend that there's an adult overseeing what the kids are watching on the videos but generally speaking you know really I'm all focused on creating a site that's filled with love um a friendly Grandma site that is caring and kind and passing on the the knowledge that's the way I'm going with this um and I'm just sorry that I can't give you any free ringtones on the podcast however all the free ringtones are still available um so that's really good isn't it and well that's it that's the update so see you over on the site I do hope ta- tell. club and yeah how exciting a new I mean it's 20 no $20 so quite cheap really um a month but you know that's 24/7 lessons and I'm uploading every day really cool classes really really nice and it it's specifically with children in mind so there we go I hope you hope you can join up and I hope you can be impressed by all the things that I do now actually I will mention that there's lots of adult stuff as well so I'm recycling old vinyl records um actually I've got a a thing that you can do with vinyl records in the microwave I'm going to do that for you guys um so lots of crafty stuff on on on its way and a bit of DIY all that sort of thing you know um oh it's so exciting I just can't wait to be honest plus loads of other perks lots of things and if you want to set up your own channel create your own channel um there's a Creator uh plan that you can sign up to I can't remember I think that's the same price actually and that is where you can start your own blog and create creative people only no adult content and or start your own TV channel so really really exciting um and there are lots and lots and lots of free channels on the website loads of them it's only the academy that you have to pay for and really think of it as a bit of a private school you know it's a bit really interesting for people who are Keen to educate as well as have some fun I mean I do it with fun in mind but don't forget all my cello lessons are on there as well and all my piano lessons so yeah how exciting can't wait see you see you Saturday I hope at 10:00 a.m. for the big launch

Many people jump into a job thinking they will love it forever. And all too often, they end up working with unpleasant people or just discover it wasn't their true life's calling. But what if the most unexpected twists and turns could transform into the top things that make you smile? I had an insightful and always entertaining conversation with Kayla Jimenez, Partner at US IP Attorneys, P.C., to learn her take on this question. After growing up in a small town of only 220 residents, she packed her bags and moved to San Diego for university—never looking back. From taking art classes in Italy to working in Biotech, always taking the untraditional path helped Kayla find her true calling in practicing law. But would the cranky, rude stereotype many lawyers possess cloud her dream? Here's how this high-achiever hacked her way into her dream job, worked with amazing free-thinkers, and eventually bought the law firm. In this episode, we reveal how Kayla utilizes these essential points of the Do The Thing Formula: Surrounding yourself with like-minded people Thinking outside the box and being resourceful Risk assessment Studying under mentors Making it fun Overcoming fear Building a solid work ethic Do you need an untraditional IP attorney or just want to learn more about Kayla? In this episode, Wendy Klinke reflects on her start-up art instruction and art kit business this past year called Blue Cat Studio. Wendy's love of art and teaching led her in a roundabout way to home-based production, as she created and sold canvas, paint, brush, and instruction kits to her students. Classes, both in-person and online, have created a growing residual business for new kits and supplies. With a lifelong passion for painting and crafts, Wendy studied fine art and architecture in college. Her career veered in a different direction, but she has come back to painting time and again over the past 20 years. It was during the federal government shutdown, in December 2018, that she recommitted to art as a serious focus, promising herself that she would sketch or paint every day. Then, in the fall of 2019, a friend asked Wendy to teach an art class for a Junior League event. Wendy describes the event as a “hot mess” but also a great way to bring disparate people together for a fun activity. The wheels started turning to start a new art instruction business. With infinite energy and creativity, Wendy only needed the business skills to get her new business off the ground. She started a master's program in business, joined a Facebook group to help new art instructors market their paint parties, and launched Blue Cat Studio. With hard work and savvy advice, Wendy was able to create a solid business in just a few months. A crucial part of this success—and the part in which home-based production comes in—was the creation of art kits that Wendy made and sold to her customers. Find out in this episode why Wendy decided to make these art kits in the first place and how the combination of instruction and production has been so vital to her students' enjoyment and her early business success. You can learn more about Blue Cat Studio, check out Wendy's online classes, and purchase art kits at https://www.facebook.com/bluecatstudioart/, https://www.instagram.com/bluecatstudioart/, https://www.facebook.com/groups/letspaintwithbluecat/. Painting and drawing – the perfect activity for chilly winter days! In this episode, recorded just before Liskeard moved into Tier 3, we start 2021 with a self indulgent look at all the fun you can have just sitting down with your paints or a sketch book and pencil. Painting and drawing is the perfect activity for this time of year and whether, like Susie, Tiggy and Ann you are coming back to it after your working life, or whether you are starting from scratch, it is probably hard to beat sitting down at your kitchen table with a mug of tea, Radio 4 on in the background and just playing around with a bit of paper and some sort of drawing or painting utensil. Susie, Tiggy and Ann talk about how they have learned this year that it doesn't matter what you do with your paint, or what the result looks like – and it doesn't matter what materials you use (a fork and a bit of old wallpaper or an Amazon box is as good as anything else) you can still have the best possible time. They also talk about how much fun it was sitting out in the garden during the summer chatting with a box of watercolour pencils and attempting to give the impression of some of the lovely flowers they were surrounded with. Apologies again for the external noises (hail showers this time) around the open-sided summerhouse. Here’s a challenge for you: keep track of how many times you hear someone encouraging a child to embrace Art as a future career. When it comes to Arts, in fact, there’s always a lot of social pressure on people willing to pursue it as a career. Italians, for instance, have a saying that goes like: “impara l’arte e mettila da parte” (lit. “learn art and put it aside”), and this isn’t very motivating… Our guest today is Mario D’Avino, doctor, psychotherapist, and theatre director. He’s the living proof that we can embrace more than one passion at a time and make a career out of it. With him, we discussed Art in school, the benefits of artistic self-expression, and how COVID-19 affected artists.

Do you find yourself stressing about “all the things” in your creative business and journey? My guest today will show you how to loosen up and gain perspective in your life! When it comes to art, Timree Gold isn’t your typical artist. She believes art should be approachable, imperfect and most importantly fun. Her art studio invites students of all ages into her whimsical world to paint all sorts of things she adores – from vintage sunglasses to summer popsicles. You’ll typically find her teaching art in her painted jeans and a statement necklace. The beauty of it all is that her paintings and crafts are bright, colorful but never perfect. Adults and children from around the world come to a little studio in Newport Beach, California to learn the whimsical and charming painting techniques of Timree. As a self-taught artist she began by painting custom dishes as a hobby. From live event paintings and murals, to teaching classes and designing product lines, Timree sparkles with creativity and makes art accessible and fun for everyone. Her studio has been voted one of the top 10 “Most Sought-after Art Classes” in the United States with classes known to sell out quickly. She has been named one of the “Style Icons of Orange County” by Orange County Magazine and featured on Bravo’s “Real Housewives of Orange County.” In addition, close to Timree's heart are "Timree Treatments", where she donates her time to teach paint classes and private lessons to those affected by cancer. "Masks." The season seven episode "Masks" is often seen as one of the worst episodes of The Next Generation, but it does have its fans that love its unorthodox storytelling style. Written by Joe Menosky, who is well-known for his frequently unusual Star Trek episodes, "Masks" has a lot of layers and interpretations to explore. Determined to fulfill the vision she’d had as a child, Legenia Bearden began researching to make her dream, the Bearden Productions Center for the Arts, a reality. In 2006, she found the resources to file for her 501(c)(3) status and was approved three months later. But it would be another eight years to fully get her vision off the ground. “I just stopped doing stuff, once we got our 501(c)(3) status,” Bearden explained. “It just wasn’t moving fast enough for me when I tried to actually start the business, so I kind of let it just sit there and nothing happened until 2014. She taught drama for a bit, then worked for the city until 2014. “When I started Bearden Productions, I was still working at the city, and it would just be on my heart every day as I was driving to work,” Bearden shared. “And I’m like, I’m thinking, ‘Oh, I don’t want to be going to work.’ I just knew I was not supposed to be doing it. I just knew in my heart, this is not something I’m supposed to be doing. So I remember, that one particular day, I was crying on my way to work. I went to work, I sat down, and I’m still crying. I’m working. During my lunch, I said, ‘Ok, if I do this, I’m going to need a building.’” She found the space, renting a dance studio in the basement of a church for $300 a month. “And it was ours,” Bearden said. “Just that simple, just that quick. Like all within a week. I thought about it, I moved, and I did it.” -- More of Bearden Productions Center for the Arts: Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/beardenproductions/ Twitter - https://twitter.com/bppas_ Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/_bpca/ -- Want the full article about Bearden? Not too many people realize that we have one of the nation's best fundraising companies here in Indianapolis, Art to Remember (https://arttoremember.com). Art classes are the first budget cut and teachers often are buying supplies out of their own pocket to keep supplies in the classroom. While schools have a ton of fundraisers, few are as successful, easy, and fun as Art to Remember. Art teachers receive the supplies to build a project in their classroom, then send the artwork to Art to Remember. Art to Remember scans and places the artwork on any number of over 40 items purchased by friends and families of the students. A portion of the sales is returned to the school! The result are happy parents, happy students, and a happy school! It's the perfect program for any school. Special Guests: Bill Boncosky and Kelly DeNeal.
In this episode, I had my old friends Justin and Irina Trzaskos on the show to talk about their series of books, “Tales from a Magical Forest“, their work with the Coventry Arts Guild, and Irina’s art classes. That music you were just listing to is performed by Alberto Perez, the owner of the La Palapa Group of Restaurants, La Palapa The Eldorado Restaurant and at [caption id="attachment_194" align="alignright" width="300"] La Palapa, Puerto Vallarta, Mexico[/caption] night, The El Dorado transforms into The Vista Grill. The Vista Grill that used to be up on the hill now has a new vista and that is right on the beach, You get the same Vista Grill Menu, and the fantastic Vista Grill service right there on the beach on Playa Los Muertos. Great view of the Los Muerto Pier all lit up at night. It’s so romantic, it’s so Puerto Vallarta my friends! You can enjoy dinner under the stars, toes in the sand at the water’s edge. So get on down to Puerto Vallarta and La Palapa, The El Dorado or the Vista Grill at least once while you are down here. Mother's Day in Mexico May 10th In Mexico, mother's day is celebrated on the 10th of May instead of the way we do it in the US whee it's celebrated the second Sunday of the month of May. It was a great sight to see the families out strolling the Malecon, eating at restaurants, taking mom out. Lots of roses and flowers and celebrations. The one in my neighborhood lasted till three in the morning I think. I took some time to hike the trail from Boca de Tomatlan to Las Animas beach that afternoon, and I took my Go-Pro camera and filmed the entire hike. I plan to talk about the hike in another episode of the show, so stay tuned for that video. Today I have a very special guest but first, what’s happening in Puerto Vallarta this week, the 15th of May, 2017. Interviews Galore! I'm sure you are getting an earful this podcast because I am in Puerto Vallarta, producing my podcast from an apartment in the Emiliano Zapata Neighborhood here in town. I am staying in a very Mexican neighborhood with roosters, two living right next door to me, and dogs, cats, banda music, children playing soccer in the street. A really sweet neighborhood. I'll put up a video of it soon and add it to my video page. I'm here to interview the movers and shakers in town and this trip is no different. I'm really looking forward to introducing these people to you so all I can say is, please keep coming back and stay tuned. ATM Machines in the Puerto Vallarta Airport Lobby [caption id="attachment_544" align="alignleft" width="300"] PV Airport Taxi Rate Schedule 2017[/caption] I took a walk through the Puerto Vallarta airport the other day and I’m happy to report that there are three bank affiliated ATM machines right there in the lobby, where you emerge from the Shark Tank. I even used one of them to withdraw 6,000 pesos to get my trip started. Remember if you plan on using your ATM card to access money in Mexico, let your bank know you will be traveling. Tell them where in Mexico and for how long. If you don’t, you more than likely will not be able to use it. For more about what I’m talking about regarding exchanging money including packing tips, data plans and cell phone tips and more, listen to Episode 2- and Episode 3 of the Puerto Vallarta Travel Show. I also added a picture of the new Taxi Rates to different destinations around the Bajia de Banderas in the show notes so if you are interested, go to the website and check out the new rates. The rates are just slightly higher than before. so don't worry, it's still very cheap to take taxis and buses in Puerto Vallarta. Remember, if you need a primer as to how to navigate the Puerto Vallarta Airport, Check out this video I put together some time back and you will find it at my website in the show-notes for this podcast. as well as in episode 3 of the Show. A couple things have changed like the location of the exit, but if you watch the video, you will get a good idea as to the process and layout of the airport so check it out if you haven't already. Don't get caught in the Shark Tank my friends. Jut sayin! His experience and on the ground knowledge of everything Puerto Vallarta in exchange for your making a purchase of a tour that you would do anyway, you’re just doing it through him as a way of saying thank you. Download Episode! Subscribe to The Puerto Vallarta Travel Show on iTunes Hello fellow travelers, welcome to the very first episode of the Puerto Vallarta Travel show. I am your host Barry Kessler and I am just so happy to be to introducing you to my favorite vacation destination, and maybe even yours, Puerto Vallarta Mexico. That music you were just listing to is performed by Alberto Perez, the owner of the La Palapa group of restaurants, La Palapa Restaurant is on the southside of town, right down on the beach in Puerto Vallarta. La Palapa, and El Dorado Restaurants as well as Vista Grill on the Hill. For those who are looking for a little romance under the stars, El Dorado has this Romantic Dining experience package you can call ahead and ask for. Imagine following a candle lit walkway to a private table at the ocean’s edge and you are surrounded by tiki torches. You’re seated at a candlelit table on the beach with your toes in the sand and dining on a 5-course gourmet menu created especially for you, and served with personalized attention to you and your every wish. Yeah, you can have that… You can download his song or even his whole CD if you like it as much as I do. I have a link to it in my shownotes on my website for show #1 where you will find it at www.puertovarrartatravelshow.com. Puerto Vallarta offers so much to any traveler who’s looking for a fun filled seaside vacation. There is something for everyone here. Traveling on a Budget? Are you on a budget? No problem, Puerto Vallarta has plenty of opportunities for the budget traveler. In fact, when I first came here with my wife, well, she was my girlfriend at the time some 32 years ago, we were looking at Hawaii and Puerto Vallarta, and we chose Vallarta just because we could actually afford it. We chose a travel package that included air and a week stay at the Playa Los Arcos Hotel in Southside, romantic zone, PV, right on the water. It’s still there today and is still going strong. It was cheap, and you can still get great package deals through all the travel ticket sites. I know that the package deal is very popular with Canadians. Luxury Accommodations Maybe you aren’t a budget conscious traveler but a luxury seeker. Perhaps your idea of a perfect vacation is being pampered. Maybe you want to have a massage on the beach, or just prefer sitting by the pool drinking and eating. Maybe you don’t even want to leave the property. You prefer the all inclusive food and drink experience. Everything included, in some places even the tips. For many I suppose, lounging, reading being pampered, getting a poolside or Oceanside massage, a spa treatment, having the staff know you by name, having a private beach with beachside service is an important part of the vacation experience. Not me, just sayin, but I’m not here to judge. I’m here to learn from all of you fellow travelers. Maybe I’m missing something. I’m willing to be proven wrong. I’ll keep an open mind during our travels together. So there are the real budget digs that can cost you around $20/ night US, and there are places like the Four Seasons Punta Mita that will cost you around $1,550 a night. Air BnB’s have made it down here in a big way, There’s apartment and condo rental specialists for those looking to have an extended stay. What I’m getting at is there are lots of properties all along the Bajia de Banderas that will suit any traveler’s needs and we are going to visit them and talk about them. We are going to talk to the hotel representatives and to you the everyday traveler to get your first hand experiences. It’s going to be fun. This is going to be an interactive experience. Since this is the first episode I want to give you an overview as to what to expect from the show as it unfolds for you on a weekly basis. The first shows will concentrate on the basics. The history of Puerto Vallarta, the current lay of the land, geography, the local customs. What are the best months of the year to visit? We will talk about getting there. Are you driving? Are you flying into the airport, are you just stopping for a day on a cruise liner and only have a few hours to get a feel for Vallarta? Important Travel Information What to pack, Passports and length of your stay, what to expect when you arrive at the airport. Can you bring your pet? How about Groceries and Shopping for the basics? Can I get what I want? Are there supermarkets? Are there convenience stores like 7/11’s? We are going to talk about exchanging money, can you drink the water? Is it okay to eat the food? Is the ice okay in the margaritas and in my coke? What about the crime? Is it safe in Puerto Vallarta? Can you walk the streets at night? How about the police? Can you trust them? What are the people like? Can you trust them? How about the bugs? Mosquitoes? How do we prepare for that? And then there’s Transportation, once we arrive. How do we all get around? Should you rent a car? What should you do before you get into a taxi or get on a bus. I know what you are thinking…I’m gonna get kidnapped…I’m in Mexico! What, A BUS?? You mean like a chicken bus you ask??? Well… We will be talking about that too. We will be talking about all of that in the first couple of podcasts. So we are going to cover all the basics and get you prepared because I want you to have the safest and most awesome vacation you have ever had. And you are going to have it right here in Puerto Vallarta. I want to help you plan your vacation so you can optimize your valuable, hard earned vacation. I’m here to help you make the most of your Puerto Vallarta Vacation. I’m here to help you enjoy everything Puerto Vallarta has to offer you so you can get your mind off of the daily grind. You deserve the best. I’m going to make sure you get it. Deal? Deal! I’m doing this for you because of all of the help I have gotten from fellow travelers along the way. I’ve had help from many people I’ve met in Puerto Vallarta and you are going to meet many of them as the show progresses over the weeks to come. One of them is a guy I know you will like. You may even know him or have heard of him. This man was a regular poster, I would say he was a regular character on an internet web forum, well let’s say it happens to be a very popular travel advice website. Anyway, his name is John and he is best known as JR in PV. JR has lived in Puerto Vallarta for 40 years, 30 of them permanently, and for almost 30 years, he has been giving advice to travelers coming to this fair city. Well, JR has promised me that he will join us on a weekly basis to answer your questions and to tell us about what is happening during the week in Puerto Vallarta. He is an expat from London and as you will see, he still hasn’t picked up the local accent; I will have to ask him about that. You’d think he would have shaken off that English accent but, as we all know, guys that talk like that just sound smarter. Anyway, JR has this website and you can see it by going to www.vallartainfo.com and on the website at the top of the page is s a tab called Maps, and you can download maps of different sections of Puerto Vallarta. Nicely detailed and I will be referring to it as we make our journey through the city in the upcoming episodes of the show. JR also has in addition to lots of invaluable information, a tour tab at the top of the homepage as well, and if you are going to take a tour while you are in Puerto Vallarta, make sure you book your tour through the website at vallartainfo.com. Remember it’s a value for value proposition here, JR gives us great travel information and we help him out by reserving our tours through Vallartainfo.com, that’s Vallartainfo.com for your tours. JR and Barry have a conversation about drinking the water in Puerto Vallarta. Listen to the Podcast. Although it wasn't discussed in the podcast, I was told by JR that resorts and hotels in Nuevo Vallarta have their own water treatment plants and therefore, although while you are outside of the resorts you will need bottled water, while at the resorts and hotels in Nuevo Vallarta, Bucerias and Punta de Mita, you should have little concern. Remember to ask. So what next? As I said, the next couple of episodes, we’ll be talking about the history of Vallarta, and lessons and the basic travel do’s and don’ts , then what? Well there is so much. Puerto Vallarta Restaurants As you may or may not have heard, Puerto Vallarta is an incredible foodie destination with over 700 restaurants. Really! We will be interviewing numerous restaurateurs here in town and get their stories. We will hear about their menus, their awards, their struggles working in a town with so much competition for the tourist dollars. I will be interviewing Gary Beck, author of the Puerto Vallarta Food guide and writer for the Banderas News, covering the entertainment beat. Gary will be talking food and you guessed it entertainment! So food and restaurants will be a big part of this show. Then we will talk about what to do, what tours should a first timer take and what a visitor should not miss. Water Sports This is a seaside destination with all sorts of types of water sports and romantic, beautiful beaches where you can sit under a palapa/ umbrella, and have food and drink served to you. You can hire una launcha to take you out to Secluded beaches before the crowds hit. There’s fishing, scuba diving, snorkeling, parasailing, sailing and sailboat excursions out of the Marina Vallarta. From Nuevo Vallarta and PV you can catch a boat to the Marietta Islands. We’re going to tell you all of the greatest places to go and what not to miss, or if you just want to lounge and relax, you can just hear all about what you are missing and just don’t care. Remember, this is a sharing podcast. Maybe you are an adventurer traveler and like to hike, zip-line do healthy invigorating stuff. Well Puerto Vallarta has got you covered and we will talk about you guys. Puerto Vallarta Charities Perhaps you are the kind of traveler who isn’t happy unless they are helping others. Maybe you feel guilty enjoying yourself while others are suffering. You know who you are. You are do-gooders. Well you do-gooders are in luck, Puerto Vallarta has so many opportunities for you to do all sorts of good. Maybe you want to help out at one of the many children’s charities set up in Vallarta. Maybe you don’t like kids and just so happens you love animals and want to help out at the local ASPCA or the pet spay and neuter clinic. There is an entire list of these organizations where your help and funds are needed and would be appreciated and I have added a couple to my website of links to do-gooder websites in PV that you can visit. Again you will find those links by going to www.Puertovallartatravelshow.com. Well, we will be interviewing these leaders, these special volunteers in the community who have found their calling and are truly Gods’ helpers for sure. Puerto Vallarta Real Estate My real job is selling homes. I know a whole lot about selling houses in Southern California. That’s how I can afford to make Puerto Vallarta my second home away from home. In fact, I do another podcast called the Southern California Real Estate Answer Man Show where I do tutorials on buying and selling Real Estate in California. So if you ever want to buy or sell a home in Southern California, call me, but I have absolutely no idea where to begin when it comes to buying and selling property in Mexico. I do however, know some great agents who work all along the Bajia de Banderas. From Sayulita and Bucarias to the north, to Mismaloya and Boca Tomatlan to the South so if you are ever in the market and want a great, honest agent referral, email me and I will set you up with an agent that you will get along with. Anyway because of my natural interest in the subject of buying and selling homes, we are going to talk with local Realtors, brokers and attorneys about foreigners buying property in Puerto Vallarta. We are talking real property not timeshares here, we are talking about buying the whole enchilada. About buying a home or condo. It’s not going to be a big part of the show, but we are going to definitely touch on the subject. Maybe more than a touch, maybe a little heavy petting, but we will see. Look, I think that people who come here more than once start looking around and asking themselves, where would I like to live if I lived here. It is certainly a thought provoking subject if just for the voyeurism of the whole thing. Puerto Vallarta Timeshares Talking of timeshares, we will be talking timeshares in an episode or two, that’s because it seems everywhere you turn around in this town, someone is trying to sell you a timeshare. We will be spending some time discussing the good and the bad of those timeshare opportunities with people who sell them, people who hate them and the people who just love them. Some have multiple timeshares and we will hear from them. Puerto Vallarta Rentals And if purchasing your little piece of paradise isn’t in the cards for you, we will be talking with people living in Puerto Vallarta who handle long term and short term rentals. These people and can find you a place to stay the winter, not in a hotel or a resort, but a condo or an apartment or a full on home. So many of you are snowbirds spending 3-5 months in paradise instead of battling the freezing temperatures In Minisocold, or Cleveland Ohio, or you Canadians up in Canadia from Manitoba, Toronto, Vancouver BC, Saskatoon Saskatchewan, I just wanted to say that and all over that great country to the north. Canadians are finding that their dollarettes go a lot further in Puerto Vallarta than at home in Canada. That’s why you will find such a large Canadian Expat population in PV. For some reason Canadians love this place. Of course there’s plenty of American US expats living in Puerto Vallarta as well. Expats in Puerto Vallarta We will be talking with the expats here in Puerto Vallarta, from one end of the bay to the other to get their stories too. We will discuss their reasons for moving to paradise…duh.., their challenges and successes making a go at living in Mexico. Are they looking to get a Mexican Passport and citizenship, or are they just happy to have resident status. We will have a couple of shows that cover those issues as well. Get Married in Puerto Vallarta Perhaps you are considering Puerto Vallarta as your destination wedding location. Many brides to be see themselves getting married with the ocean and sand and the fantastic setting of Bandares Bay as the backdrop of their ideal wedding. Others see themselves wed at the famous Church of our lady de Guadalupe, That beautiful crowned church you see in all of those tourist photos of Puerto Vallarta. Yes, that church. You can be married there. Maybe you have decided to renew your vows in paradise and want to invite your favorite people in the world to share your special moment with you. Well, we will be talking with local wedding planners, Bakers, Dressmakers, florists, photographers, caterers and hotel operators as well as other property owners who specialize in making your destination wedding the talk of the town and an incredible memory for you to hold in your hearts for your entire lives. I’m really looking forward to that or I should say those episodes of the show because there are so many people to talk with and so many options for those of you in love who are mulling over the numerous possibilities and opportunities. So weddings, vow renewals anniversary celebrations and other special occasion locations and services will be discussed in length throughout the podcasts to follow. If you have had a wedding that you want to tell us about, let me know and we can talk about it in an upcoming show. Please share your experiences with our listeners. Art in Puerto Vallarta Maybe you are interested in the numerous art galleries throughout Vallarta. We will be talking with a number of local artists, many of them expats themselves who now call Puerto Vallarta their home. We will be talking with local native Mexican artists as well. I have an upcoming interview Gary Thompson, who is the owner and director of Galleria Pacifico, and he will also give us a tour of the local artwork on the Malecon, the oceanfront boardwalk in Old Town Puerto Vallarta where there are the most fantastic, some would say unusual looking sculptures and artwork that are so popular here along the waterfront here in downtown PV. During the high season every Tuesday morning at 9:30, Gary gives a free walking tour where he describes the artwork and talks about the artists too. It’s going to be a real treat. Cooking and Art Classes in Puerto Vallarta Maybe you are looking to enrich yourselves by taking a Spanish course or a cooking class so you can cook like a local. Maybe you want to take an art class with a local artist. We will be interviewing these teachers who are eager to share their knowledge so you can bring it home with you to share with your family and friends. And you can relive those experiences each and every day. Imagine if you will learning from some of the most amazing chefs in the whole world. Wow! You can do that here, and you will be so glad you listened to this show because now you have the bug. Puerto Vallarta is LGBTQ Friendly Puerto Vallarta is a LGBTQ friendly town. You will find, especially on the south side of town that Vallarta has plenty of Gay daytime and Night time activities with , Clubs, Bars and Restaurants, beaches and even special tours actually offered specifically for gay tourists here. So yes, the Rainbow flag is flown quite proudly here in Vallarta. And we are going to dedicate at least one show to the LGBTQ community here and the clubs and restaurants that are frequented by the gay community here in Vallarta. I'm telling you, you should check out that show, it should be very interesting. Theater Arts in Puerto Vallarta Puerto Vallarta was put on the map by Hollywood Director John Houston and Richard Burton and Liz Taylor when the night of the iguana was filmed back in 1964, so it should come as no surprise that Puerto Vallarta has a robust theater and entertainment community. We will be discussing that with Gary Beck in an upcoming show this February. So there is just so much to talk about, and as the show progresses week by week, I will be working along with friends like JR, and my buddy Agustin at The fantastic Hotel Cinco 22 B & B on Calle Hidalgo, about 3 blocks north of The Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe. I will be working with those great guys and others to bring you special offers from restaurants and hotels, resorts and clubs so stay tuned for that. Just another added bonus for my listeners and I will be bringing those to your attention as the come up. Again you will find all of the show notes to this podcast ant others to come including the links to JR’s site and to the website where you can purchase the fantastic music of Alberto Perez who we will listen to as we play out this episode. Remember my friends, and I really mean this, because I have made so many great, genuine friends in Puerto Vallarta, and I really consider all of my listeners my friends, that this show is an interactive one. I need your participation by sending me emails with questions for JR that you would like to hear him answer on air with me. And please Email me your suggestions for show topics. I probably have about 60 of them written down as of right now, but If you think of something I should be talking about, please reach out to me by email. Just click on the contact tab at the top of the page and fill out the form. And remember, if you are considering booking any type of tour while you are in Puerto Vallarta, you must go to Vallartainfo.com, JR’s website and reserve your tour through him, right from his website. Remember the value for value proposition. His experience and on the ground knowledge of everything Puerto Vallarta in exchange for your making a purchase of a tour that you would do anyway, you’re just doing it through him as a way of saying thank you. It costs no more than if you were to use someone else so do it. Really. And when you do take one of these tours, email me about your experiences. Maybe you can come onboard and share with others what you liked or didn’t like about the tour. Again, email me with your experiences. Just click on the contact tab at the top of the page and fill out the form. Next week we will get right into the history, geography and lay of the land here in Puerto Vallarta.
