(..) Tas, ko daru – tā ir lieta, ko man patīk darīt un es to izbaudu. Bet ka ir cilvēki, kas gatavi par to izdot naudu un iekļaut savās kolekcijās – privātās vai valstiskās – tā man ir mistērija vēl joprojām... (Smaida.) Elīn, tu esi viena no jaunajiem autoriem, kuru darbi pirmoreiz iepirkti Nacionālā mākslas muzeja laikmetīgās mākslas kolekcijā. Kuri no taviem darbiem nonāca muzejā? (..)

Send us a textWelcome back to The Employee Handbook (formerly the HR Podcast—we changed it for the SEO, let's see if it works). To kick off 2026, Arta and Ryan take a trip north of the border to analyze a case that involves contract law, trade shows, and copious amounts of baby oil.We examine Newsham v. CanWest Trade Shows, where a male exotic dancer suffered a knee injury after slipping on stage. While the Canadian courts ruled one way, we break down why California's "ABC Test" would view this "artistic pursuit" very differently.Whether you are running a trade show, an accounting firm, or a trampoline park, this episode is a masterclass in why you cannot simply "waive" away negligence. We discuss the critical differences between invitees and trespassers, why the Workers' Compensation system is actually an employer's safety net, and why—in California—that independent contractor is probably legally your employee. In this episode:The ABC Test: Why doing business in California means almost everyone is an employee (especially if they are central to your show).Premises Liability: From body paint to carpet types, who is responsible when the stage gets slippery?Waivers vs. Reality: Why you can't contract out of ordinary negligence, no matter what the paper says.Civil Suit vs. Workers' Comp: Why staying out of civil court is worth the insurance premiums.Disclaimer: The hosts of this podcast are licensed attorneys, but they are not your attorneys. Send us a textThe world's largest HR organization just paid $11.5 million for violating its own rules.SHRM—the Society for Human Resource Management—literally writes the certification exams, publishes the best practices, and trains HR professionals worldwide on how to handle workplace discrimination complaints. Then they got sued for racial discrimination and retaliation by one of their own employees. And lost. Badly. In this episode, Arta and Ryan break down Muhammad v. Society for Human Resource Management, a federal case out of Colorado where a jury awarded $1.5 million in compensatory damages and slapped on $10 million in punitives after deliberating for just four and a half hours. The facts read like a checklist of what not to do:Complaints escalated through proper channels while the company's response became evidence against themThe "investigator" had never conducted a discrimination investigation before and couldn't recall his trainingThat same investigator was simultaneously ghostwriting emails for the accused supervisorA Black employee who raised similar complaints was terminated 17 days laterThe plaintiff was suddenly hit with "non-negotiable" deadlines for the first time—right after complainingThe court found SHRM "produced no facts showing that it actually investigated"We cover what employers should actually do when facing discrimination complaints, why company size matters for determining "reasonable" responses, how California's new intersectionality law changes the analysis, and the brutal irony of an HR company becoming a case study in exactly what they teach others to avoid.

Tearsheet's roots were in investment and wealth tech. As that world became more focused on plain vanilla robo-advisors about a decade ago, I expanded our focus to include banking, payments, and lending. That's because with ETFs and low-cost providers, it felt like most of the focus of innovation was coming from removing costs. Things have changed since then. On today's episode, we explore the changing world of wealth management with two industry leaders: Nader Souri, Head of Corporate Banking at BNY, and Caesar Sengupta, CEO of Arta Finance. You don't have to listen closely to really feel their connection and the relationship they've personally forged through working together. I first spoke with Ceasar a few years ago when he was VP and General Manager of Payments and Next Billion Users at Google. Our conversation reveals how these two organizations are leading how wealth management solutions are evolving for professionals. It also sheds light on the role of fintech partnerships in this transformation. Caesar Sengupta opens the discussion by explaining Arta Finance's mission. “We are a digital family office or a digital private bank for professionals, not the ultra-rich,” he says. The goal is to democratize wealth management and make sophisticated financial tools accessible to those who have worked hard in their careers. Nader Souri adds, “At BNY, we provide the platform upon which folks like Arta Finance can build their businesses.” He highlights the role of clearing and custody infrastructure. This helps in supporting innovative fintech solutions.

Send us a Text Message. In a new segment designed to bring our audiences closer to our inner children, we ponder what life would be like if we'd taken a wildly different career path. That's exactly where Ryan and I start off our second season. Ryan makes an odd turn by making a play to become a member of the village people, while Arta looks to corner the market by appealing to a niche demo.We then discuss the topic of personal/private social media posting as it relates to your job and why it might be a bad idea to broadcast your ideas to the world when you signed up for social media with your real name and where you work. This episode is where we finally start to figure out how to do a show.
“Without our mothers, we wouldn't be here. We need to put mothers and nurturing maternal relationships at the forefront of our families, of our communities, and also how we lead businesses as well.” —Hoda Mohajerani Motherhood is at the heart of many businesses today. Where some see constraints, these mompreneurs find freedom in following passions with impacts that nourish families and the future. Their brands reflect the love, care, and vision that sustain communities, just as motherhood sustains families. Chakra Chai founder Hoda Mohajerani returns to share her journey as a mom and business leader. Listen in as Justine and Hoda discuss more about the intersection of motherhood and entrepreneurship, Chakra Chai's latest products that aim to nourish both physical and spiritual well-being, the importance of collaboration and community in business success, nurturing communities through sustainable practices, and more. Meet Hoda: Following the loss of her newborn son, Arta, Hoda's body, mind, and soul were in a state of disarray. Her heart was shattered, her energy depleted, and she suffered from chronic gut and colon problems. Hoda's being was in turmoil while she struggled to find solace in her physical and emotional state. However, her sheer power will keep her going through the toughest of times. While meditating at home, Hoda heard a whisper from her dear Arta: “Chakra Chai”. At first, she was not sure what it meant or what her little one was trying to tell her. Over time, though, she began to understand the profound message, delivered with the utmost tenderness and love. Hoda received a download of information that she knew was sacred and powerful. She sat with her thoughts and quieted her mind, allowing for the message to sink in and take root. She knew that this was an incredible gift, one that she had to honor and pursue with all her being. CHAKRA CHAI is the product of her loss and grief, but it has become Hoda's mission in life to offer a drink that brings wholeness, balance, and strength to those who need it. It is a privilege to serve others, and she hopes that each sip of CHAKRA CHAI offers solace and healing to all those who come across it. “We are A PART OF nature, we are not apart from nature.” —Hoda Mohajerani At our core, humans are a part of nature, not separate from it. Our health and well-being depend heavily on the natural world around us. The modern world may have pushed us into a distance from nature, but if we want to achieve optimal health, we must ensure that our choices are in harmony with the world around us. By working with the natural rhythms of the earth, we can create thriving ecosystems that nourish both our bodies and the planet. Founded by Hoda Mohajerani, Chakra Chai® is a heart-centered business that believes that food is not just vital for our bodies, but it can also heal the environment. Based on the Ayurvedic teachings on the interconnectedness of life, they are committed to spreading values that are in harmony with the earth and its people and are proud of their regenerative agriculture techniques and responsible business practices. Their mission is not only to offer exceptional products but also to contribute positively to society. Being a part of the Eco-Alliance, Chakra Chai® is passionate about discovering sustainable packaging alternatives to reduce their impact on the planet. This is why they prioritize utilizing materials that are compostable, recyclable, and reusable. In this episode, Justine sits with Hoda to discuss why we should be mindful of the food we consume and how we consume them. They also share how we can apply “regenerative” not only in agriculture but also in our business, how food can build a community, where individual and systemic change start, what Ayurveda means, what are chakras, and how we can nourish these energy centers. With so much valuable information to gain, you won't want to miss this week's podcast! However, the sheer power of her will kept her going through the toughest of times.
