Caring for a child with disabilities isn't just a full-time job, it's a deeply personal, emotional, and often isolating journey. What if the support parents need wasn't just about filling a shift, but about building a relationship? In this episode of Parenting Impossible, Annette Hines sits down with Susan Asay, founder of Apex Social Exchange Foundation, to talk about what it really means to find care you can trust. Susan shares her own story of juggling a demanding career, raising young kids, and desperately trying to find someone who could not only help, but understand. That search led to a program connecting families with compassionate, live-in care professionals trained to support children with complex needs. Building a more inclusive world starts in the home, and with the right support, parents don't have to do it alone. In this episode, you will hear: Why the person caring for your child should be a true partner in their development. How to find someone qualified and emotionally ready to support a child with disabilities full-time. Ways international caregivers fill the critical gap in America's special needs childcare system. Why matching personalities just as important as matching skills when it comes to live-in care. Happy 2025, diner buddies! I am so excited to begin the new year of "Talking At The Diner" with this conversation. Tyler Asay is the lead singer and band leader of The Tisburys, a Philly-based indie band who are close to my musical heart because they are at the forefront of what I like to think of as a Philly power pop renaissance, which has been bubbling under with fellow torch bearers like Log Flume, Second Grade, and the Jette Planes. Tyler is one of those musicians who loves the lineage of music in a particular genre or scene, and the Tisburys land squarely in the Philly pop rock tradition that can be traced back to Todd Rundgren, through the A's and the Hooters, and indie bands like Flight of Mavis and Buzz Zeemer. I have a feeling that if we were contemporaries in the aughts, IKE and the Tisburys would have done a LOT of shows together. But sharing stages will hopefully come to pass in 2025! In the meantime, The Tisburys are working at an impressive clip. Their newest single "The Anniversaries" is out now and their previous albums "Exile On Main Street" (2022), "Sun Goes Down" (2020), and "Wax Nostalgic" (2019) are all great and full of killer songs. With a healthy dash of Springsteen-esque energy and grandeur, this band is a rock and roll anthem machine! You can find them at their official website: http://thetisburys.com And on IG: @the_tisburys By the by, Tyler is a talented music writer and journalist and you can find him on Substack at: thetisburys.substack.comEnjoy our chat! ~ JKF ❤️

Trying new ideas on the farm, especially those that involve innovative approaches, will not always be easily understood by neighbors or other people who drive by. But for those willing to follow their own curiosity, the benefits can far outweigh the costs. Illinois farmer Gary Asay talks about his farming system that combines no-till, cover crops and hog manure. Gary farms in Henry County in Northwest Illinois. There's a lot of hard-earned wisdom in Gary's path to getting into no-till, and the impact that has had on his farming operation. “A lot of people look at what I do and … they think I'm crazy. You know, it can't be done. We want to tell people it can be done. No-till cover crops is not easy. A lot of people expect just to go out there and have a prescription, you do this at a certain time and everything works just right. With cover crops you gotta manage even better. So it is a challenge and it takes time, but I do believe the benefits are good enough to keep working at it.” -Gary Asay Soil erosion and maintaining the soil's nutrition along with less need for equipment have motivated Gary to incorporate these practices. He has been in continuous no-till for over 20 years and started incorporating cover crops in 2010. He began raising hogs as a kid in 4-H, and after many years he finally sold his hog operation to a young farmer getting into the business, but he still uses the manure from that operation as a major source of his fertilizer. “I feel more and more that it is very important to keep that microbiome in the soil healthy and working for you...every time I dig in the soil, I was turning up earthworms and seeing the holes in the soil from the earthworms that they leave. It tells me that, you know, there's a lot going on underground and the microbiomes are a part you can't really see but they have added benefits there too.” - Gary Asay This Week on Soil Sense: Meet farmer Gary Asay from Henry County in Northwest Illinois Discover how Gary incorporates no-till, cover crops and hog manure in his operation and his journey to that end Thank you to the Soy Checkoff for sponsoring this Farmers for Soil Health series of the Soil Sense podcast. FOUR ACTIONABLE TAKEAWAYS When you're asking questions don't just ask the question. Say, “the reason I'm asking is because (insert problem). Go into a discovery call with a hypothesis of the problem you can solve. As you prove it out, give little proof points (case studies, stories) so it's not an interrogation. When demoing, demo 80/20. 20% of what matters most spend 80% on that. Bonus: stack your demo with what makes your product different as opposed to what everyone has. Before giving concessions or discounts, narrow the scope (number of seats, commercial terms, service term, number of years in the deal) and get everything on the table before you start giving any sort of concessions.
