R. Kelly's lawyer told an appeals court yesterday that all kinds of legitimate organizations, even college fraternities, could be deemed racketeering organizations under a law used to convict the R&B superstar at his Brooklyn trial of sexually abusing young fans. Now, this lawyer, Jennifer Bonjean, is seeking to reverse R. Kelly's 2021 convictions or win him a new trial. She tried to convince him. Three judges in a U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan that prosecutors improperly used a racketeering statute written to shut down organized crime to go after the singer. She said it wasn't fair that prosecutors charged R. Kelly with leading a racketeering influence and corrupt organization known as RICO from 1994 to 2018 and this is the law that they used to convict him. Ooh! Could it be true? Maybe the fat lady hasn't sung on the R. Kelly situation yet. Stay tuned. And Dr. Dre got his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. It was unveiled on Tuesday. You know, Dre is known for his career as a performer, producer, founder, and CEO of Aftermath Entertainment and Beats Electronics and co-founder and president of Death Row Records. Well, Snoop Dogg was on hand along with music impresario Jimmy Iovine. And by the way, the star is right next to Snoop's, right in front of the El Capitan Entertainment Center. Dre's star is the 2,775th star since the completion of the Walk of Fame back in 1961. You know, Dre has always said he was inspired by the 1981 single Adventures of Grandmaster Flash on the Wheels of Steel. Oh, I do remember that one. Anyway, after hearing that, he went on to be a DJ himself and he frequently attended a club called Eve's After Dark. Now, this was over in the Willowbrook section of Compton. He would watch many DJs perform, and then when he became one himself, he was known as Dr. J, the nickname of his favorite basketball player, Julius Irving. Well, he later became Dr. Dre based on his first name and Irving's nickname. How about that? Things that you just need to know. And congratulations to Dr. Dre for all of the work he's done in the community. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Dr. Dre and Jimmy Lovine, both music producers, recognized the need for high-quality headphones that could accurately reproduce the sound of music as it was intended to be heard in the studio. Despite facing initial challenges and negative reviews from some critics, they persevered with their idea, continuously improving their product and pushing forward. Their unwavering determination paid off, as they ultimately sold their company for a staggering sum of over $2 billion. Let us check out their story.

Here is what we are going to talk about today.   3 things.   #1 - being in the room #2 - being at the table #3 - being the table   This week I listened to an amazing podcast episode, on Masters of Scale, It is episode #46, and I'll add a link in the show notes. The title is Make it Epic, with will i am.   So let's get started.   Who is will i am?   William James Adams Jr. known professionally as will.i.am (pronounced "Will-I-am"), is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, actor, and record producer. He rose to fame as the founder and lead member of the Black Eyed Peas.   But after I listened to the episode of Masters of Scale, I learned there is more.   Unbeknownst to many, will .i. am owns a founding stake in Beats Electronics.   Beats sold to Apple in 2014 for $3 billion, and if will i am owned only 1% - that would be a $30 million payday.   You may assume that Dr. Dre owned Beats, because that is what I thought. I had no idea that will i am was the guy with the original idea. But there are 3 founders, Dr. Dre, Jimmy Lovine (will i am's Mentor), and will i am.   Apparently, will i am came up with the original idea for Beats while on tour with the Black Eyed Peas in Europe in 2004. It was there that he saw fans holding up camera phones (not lighters) like they still did in the US. And At that moment he realized that there was an opportunity in the hardware space.   Listen to this.......I be rockin' them Beats!   He even had the Super Bowl halftime stage shaped into the Beats logo when they performed back in 2011. This was grassroots marketing. Beats wasn't allowed to put an actual logo on the field, so will i am came up with this instead.   The initial story goes something like this:   And this is a quote for will i am's mentor Jimmy Lovine...   “So I was with will.i.am one day and he says, “You know the record business is all screwed up, we're losing, Jimmy.  Jimmy, hardware.'” “So I said, ‘Will, what are you talking about hardware?'” “He says ‘Hardware.'” So I said ‘Will, you know why they call it hardware? It's hard. That's why they call it hardware '” “About a year later I was walking down the beach and I ran into Dr. Dre…”   Now, there is a lot more to the story, and I would encourage you to listen to the episode, but what I wanted to do, is share with you the lesson that I learned, that really resonated with me...     will . i . am's mentor, Jimmy Lovine, said something to him that really stuck.   He said, "Will, you are the type of person that if you stay at the table long enough, you will figure it out."   and I love that. If you have been listening to this podcast you may know that I recorded a recent episode called, everything is figureoutable, and this statement really hit me. Heck yeah, if you stay at the table long enough, you will figure it out.   But there is more to this...   Jimmy also said,  "You just need to figure out a way to stay at the table longer"   Boom! I love love love this.. How can you not only stay in the room but stay at the table longer?   But wait, there is even more....   Jimmy then said, "OR: be the table.   BE THE TABLE.  BE THE TABLE.   My mind was blown.   Think about that.   Then I realized there were 3 big takeaways, each with increased benefits of the opportunity.   #1 Being "in the room" gives you access. How can you be in the room at your next dream project? That.s up to you, you can figure it out, I know you can do it. And it is important to remind yourself, that whatever you really want to have, to achieve, etc., you need to be in the room with someone who can help you make it happen.   #2 Next, it's not just about being in the room, there is more. You need to be at the table. Being "at the table", means you are in the room when life-changing opportunities present themselves.  And if you listen to the episode with will i am, you will hear how Will was in the room when the magic unfolded.   #3 If the longer you stay at the table, unlocks more opportunities, then BEING THE TABLE, means you are the one creating those opportunities. And that is some serious shit. Personally, I want to be the table. I realized that this has been my goal. I didn't do this exactly, and I still don't know exactly how I can do this, but I'd like to be "the table".   So, to bring this home, please know this episode may not resonate with everyone. Some of you might be perfectly happy with your job, doing what you are doing, and doing it forever and ever and ever. and this is totally cool. doing what you want to do is the goal, and if you are doing that, I applaud you.   If you want more - more fulfillment, more challenges, more money, more whatever, you may have more of a growth mindset, and I want you to think about the table analogy. How can you get in the room, have a seat at the table, and become the table?   I want to leave you with one final quote for this episode, and then I see you next.   Reid Hastings, on Masters of Scale, says,   "will.i.am was already successful, but he wanted more. He saw a window to create a bigger opportunity, he'd change his sound, and change the game...."   Then will says,   "I want to make music for PEOPLE, not just people that like what I like...and that's harder....making music for people who like what you like, is pretty easy, you know exactly what they want to hear. Trying to get other walks of life, old. young, Muslim, Christian,  black, white, male, female, that is freaking hard!"   So that's it guys, go get a seat and the table and become the table, and let's make music for everyone.

Music has been in Dr. Dre's blood from the very start. The man who would one day revolutionize the hip-hop game started working as a DJ in his teens and his first major success came not long after as a member of the rap group, N.W.A. Later on, in his career, he'd co-found Death Row Records, and his first solo album, “The Chronic” released in 1992, was one of the biggest hits of the decade. In fact, more than any other rapper, Dr. Dre is credited for moving away from the political stance and party vibes of old school rap, in order to create a gangsta rap. But as well-known as he is for his rapping career, Dre would probably be the first to tell you that his true talent was as a producer working with acts like Eminem and 50 Cent before diversifying even further and co-founding the company Beats Electronics which would make him richer than damn near anything else he was ever a part of.

Jimmy Iovine’s legendary story was well-chronicled in HBO's 2017 docu-series, The Defiant Ones, but his impact on modern music, the media business, and technology continues to amaze. From his modest origins in Brooklyn, he worked his way up to legendary status as a music producer, working with artists like Bruce Springsteen and John Lennon, then later co-founding Interscope Records where he nurtured artists like Tupac Shakur, Eminem, as well as a subsidiary label, Death Row Records. Iovine would go on to partner with Dr Dre on Beats by Dre, which evolved into Beats Electronics, which was famously sold to Apple for $3 billion in 2014. In this special episode, previously recorded for Boardroom University, Iovine talks about his first music job as a janitor in a recording studio, the time Steve Jobs diagrammed the hardware business for him on a dinner table, his admiration for former Disney exec, Bob Iger, and why the program he and Dr Dre are launching is poised to empower under-served high school students by emphasizing the importance of both technology and design.    *The Boardroom University event was recorded on March 10, ’21, and co-sponsored by USC Annenberg, and USC Iovine and Young Academy. Welcome to the Wedding Video Boss Podcast, I am your host, Paul Santiago. Today we’re talking about audio, its importance, whether you’re filming from your phone or using a dslr, what kind of microphones go where, how to deal with a nightmare DJ and in the end a simple sample audio setup for beginner videographers or any wedding vendors who want to get into the BTS game. This right here will change the game and you’ll thank me for it if you do it right. First...Here’s a quote from the great Jimmy Iovine, he is an American record producer best known as the co-founder of Interscope Records and mega millionaire because with Dr. Dre founded Beats Electronics. The company was purchased by Apple Inc. for $3 billion in May 2014"You're only as good as your weakest link in the ecosystem of sound, of audio.” Ain’t that the truth!Audio is what turns amateur video to professional. So as a filmmaker, your job is not only to show the audience what you see, but also to reveal to them what they didn’t hear at all. That is the element of subtle surprise! I listed down the opportunities to grab useable, clutch audio that are common within the wedding dayu Let’s get into the beautiful world of wedding audio... Please bear in mind that it is very important to have a shotgun mic attached to your camera. On board audio mics for DLSR’s are terrible. Oh and also, I hate seeing audio go into the red on the meter so always remember, ABC - Always Be Checking the audio levels while you film, you’ll never know when someone or something will be giving a sudden “woohoo” or someone pops open a champagne bottle. I will list down the cables, mics and recorders in the show notes so you'll know what I’m talking about. Another disclaimer, I will be talking about people crying and how beautiful it is for us, we’re not anarchists, we’re just videographers who appreciate emotion and our job is to capture it. That is, until you encounter a DJ that just doesn’t want to help you out. What do you do? Listen to this episode! Now let’s go to the much awaited simple audio setup, remember when I said that audio is the difference between amateur and professional video? We use this recorder called SONY ICD-PX. It’s probably one of the really good, affordable recorders out there that already comes with a mic. Get this, it has a Built-in 4 GB flash memory - Up to 173 Hours of maximum recording time, Up to 32 hours of battery life for extended recording. It has Noise Cut for noise-free recordings. We probably use at least 2 of these at a wedding!Just capture the audio and video and you can ask a video editor to SYNC it for you. Voila! Instant content and you save money! LVMH’s Ian Rogers on the death of the chief digital officer

The role of the chief digital officer shouldn't exist, says Ian Rogers, who is himself the chief digital officer at LVMH, on the latest episode of the Innovators podcast by TheCurrent. Speaking to Liz Bacelar in Hong Kong during The New York Times International Luxury Conference, he argues that for any large company, the role should be merely transitional as brands become accustomed to a future where digital is simply embedded within everything that they do. "The word digital and the insinuation that this transformation is about technology is really misleading and it makes people make the wrong decisions. So what I really want to convince people of is that this is not a technological change, it's a cultural change," he explains. Instead, the role should evolve into a chief technical officer who sits at the executive table alongside more established players like the CFO and the CEO itself, he notes. Rogers joined LVMH in 2015 at a pivotal time for the group, which like many luxury players was navigating a new consumer demand for more digital experiences and introducing e-commerce to its more traditional brands. Since taking on the role, he has helped LVMH launch multi-designer e-commerce platform, 24 Sèvres, invest in affiliate shopping platform Lyst, and scale LVMH's presence on China's TMall platform from zero to 12 portfolio names. Rogers big focus is on the customer, he explains. He brings that learning from his previous career in the music industry, where he led the launch of Apple Music after it acquired Beats Music and Beats Electronics for $3bn. Understanding every customer touchpoint, which now begins with digital, is key for a successful experience that navigates seamlessly across all channels, he explains. During the conversation, Rogers also talks about how it makes sense that luxury took so long to jump into e-commerce; why CEOs don't need to know technology intrinsically; and what he's driving at LVMH to keep up with the level of experience the customer expects online.

One of the most significant figures in the history of the music industry looks back on his rise from studio sweeper to engineer (for John Lennon and Bruce Springsteen) to producer (for Tom Petty and U2) to label founder and chief (Interscope, which made hip hop and gangsta rap mainstream), and his unlikely friendship with Dr. Dre, with whom he founded Beats Electronics (which they sold to Apple for $3.2 billion in 2014), which is chronicled in an acclaimed new HBO docuseries. But first: Gregg Kilday, THR's film editor, joins Scott to discuss the Academy's decision to invite an unprecedented 928 people to join its organization. 完整文稿请关注我们的微博、微信或登录我们的网页:http://english.cri.cn/7146/2014/05/20/2582s827498.htm This is NEWS Plus Special English. I'm Yun Feng in Beijing. Here is the news. Preferential policies will be granted to encourage college graduates to work at grassroots or start business in a move to boost employment. Graduates that decide to work at grassroots will be provided with tuition compensation or a reduction in their student loan. The State Council, China's Cabinet, says loans or subsidies will be given to new graduates to open online shops. Small and micro businesses in technology will benefit from similar policies once they recruit a certain amount of college graduates. State-owned enterprises are required to publish employment information on the Internet to safeguard a level playing field in recruitment. The authority urged governments at all levels to give top priority to boosting employment among college graduates. More than 7.3 million university students will enter the job market this year, mostly in June and July. The number is almost 300,000 more than last year. China has been confronted with a tough employment situation due to slowing economic growth, with an increasing number of jobless people, including college graduates and employees from sectors plagued by overcapacity. This is NEWS Plus Special English. Experts on clean governance have expressed their optimism about China's anti-graft drive after a top disciplinary official stressed the responsibilities of the Party organizations in the fight against corruption. Wang Qishan, secretary of the Party Central Commission for Discipline Inspection said that Party committees at all levels should take the lead in improving work style, building a clean government and fighting corruption. Wang made the remark while meeting with leading officials of central Party and government organs, centrally-administered enterprises and state-owned financial institutions recently. Failing to improve the Party's work style and build a clean government will be regarded as dereliction of duty; and those who fall short of shouldering their responsibilities and carrying out adequate oversight will be held accountable. Experts believe Wang's remarks have detailed clearer requirements for Party committees and leading officials of such institutions in regard of their anti-graft commitment. Huang Weiting, a research fellow with "Seeking Truth", the official magazine of the Party Central Committee, says central Party and governmental departments are at the center of China's governance; And decisions of their officials may carry weight in the country's major political and economic policies. Huang adds they are also subject to greater corruption risks, and their corruption could have a greater impact on society. You're listening to NEWS Plus Special English. I'm Yun Feng in Beijing. Technicians have finished installing solar panels on the White House roof. This has capped a project that the United States' government hopes will send a signal that renewable energy is feasible and environmentally shrewd. President Barak Obama said in 2010 that he would retrofit his family's new home with solar panels, then use the power generated to heat water for the first family and provide some electricity. But the project remained dark until late last year, when the installation finally started. Due to security concerns, the White House won't say how many panels now encase the top of it, or how much they cost. The panels are expected to generate more than 6 kilowatts of solar power whenever the sun shines. President Obama wants to use his personal example to spur families and businesses to do more to reduce reliance on foreign energy and cut emissions blamed for global warming. Energy officials say solar panels at the White House are a really important message that "solar is there, we are doing it, and we can do a lot more." This is NEWS Plus Special English. "Think different" became Apple's creed during the late Steve Jobs' reign as CEO. Now, chief executive Tim Cook is embracing the idea while making decisions that would have seemed crazy to his fabled predecessor. Apple's pending purchase of headphone maker and streaming music company Beats Electronics for 3.2 billion dollars is just the latest example of Cook's deviation from Jobs. Jobs had so much confidence in his company's innovative powers that he saw little sense in spending large amounts of money on acquisitions. Cook became chief executive in late August 2011, roughly six weeks before Jobs died. But in a number of ways, he is just beginning to put his own imprint on Apple. Cook is straying from Jobs' cash-hoarding habits by committing to return 130 billion dollars to shareholders through dividends and stock buybacks. He has orchestrated a company stock split, and agreed to match employees' charitable contributions up to 10,000 dollars annually.
