Our conversation dives deep into Richard's personal turning points, the importance of confronting challenges, and the power of personal growth. His journey has been one of incredible highs and lows, from challenges he faced from even the earliest years of his upbringing to the success of becoming a renowned public speaker Richard's story begins with a difficult childhood. He was born to a mother who didn't want him, then was adopted by a mother who also didn't fully accept him. This experience fueled Richard's passion to help others recognize their potential and embrace their brilliance. Richard's journey also provides valuable insights into effective leadership. He emphasizes the importance of communication and confrontation in a leadership role. True leaders, he asserts, do not shy away from difficult conversations but rather address them head-on. It is through these confrontations that growth and progress are achieved, both individually and within an organization. For the past 35 years, Richard has dedicated his life to sharing his research and insights with people all around the world. Through his work, he aims to inspire individuals to strive for exceptionalism beyond average or greatness. In this episode of Lessons I Learned in Law Scott Brown speaks to Richard Flint, founder and Deputy CEO at broadband provider Swish Fibre. Richard's career began in private practice where he specialised in oil and gas and energy from waste. In 2017 Richard moved to an in-house role as Head of Legal at Ingenious. Here Richard focussed primarily on renewable energy, but remained at the forefront of deals; working closely with the commercial team and, where necessary, external lawyers.Richard shares some of the lessons he learned in law including:· The transferrable skills you have as a lawyer are super valuable – more valuable even than you realise!· To deliver value for the client, try to remove the noise. Keep it simple. Remove any low-level decisions so your client can focus on the big questions that matter. · Be in the moment. It's easy to become overwhelmed by workloads, but giving people time and not being distracted in meetings is so important. Presented by Scott Brown of Heriot Brown Legal Recruitment. Tee sheets are still busy, membership remains buoyant and, as the success of England Golf's independent golfer scheme shows, new players continue to be attracted to our wonderful game. While the number of rounds played may not be hitting the heights of 2020 and 2021, they remain way above pre-Covid levels – and there has been no sign in this year's club renewals of a halt in the sport's popularity. And yet there are gathering clouds on the horizon. The cost-of-living crisis, spearheaded by huge energy bills that seem certain to come our way later this year, represent a big threat to our disposable incomes and could dramatically change our leisure habits. So how can golf prepare for this and how can the authorities help? And what about other issues around growing participation for women and girls, sustainability, and the World Handicap System? To talk about the success of iGolf, and how England Golf are meeting the challenge in some of these areas, our guest on the From the Clubhouse podcast is the governing body's chief operating officer Richard Flint…

Today's guest, Richard Flint, of Flint, Incorporated, a company specializing in the training and development of individuals, companies and associations. My conversation with Richard was deep and really interesting. I especially enjoyed listening to his thoughts on leadership and team building. You'll want to listen carefully to his take on using the word “team” to refer to employees or staff. I loved the question he said we should all ask ourselves with respect to success: “What is the price I'm willing to pay?” He relates this to the concept that there is a big difference between excitement and enthusiasm. Richard says we need to have purpose, agenda and commitment, using the 3 D's: desire, determination and discipline. We talked about doing inner work, and I was struck by what he said about what we don't confront, and that whatever we don't confront, we validate. That kinda blew my mind. He shares what he believes are the best leadership qualities, and that is that leaders do the following: Listen Enable Adapt Direct Energize Revisit Richard drops so many wisdom bombs; you'll want to take notes. I really appreciated his slightly different, but very deep perspective on leadership, and as an entrepreneur, I think you will too. Everything we do as entrepreneurs requires us to wear the leader's hat, and Richard shows us how to do it well. So, grab a beverage or a snack and settle-in to listen to Richard and his amazing journey. Tom Elliott and Danny Longman swam all the lakes of the Lake District in four days, and Richard Flint filmed them. In this podcast, Richard, maker of the film ‘As You Lake It', talks about the process of filming them do it, and Tom talks doing it - swimming the lakes of the Lake District.
For over 30 years, Richard Flint has been speaking and changing lives. Richards' has a passion for helping anyone who is tired of wandering through life and feels like they are lacking the clear understanding of what it takes to rise above normal and achieve a life of accomplishment, freedom, success, and a personal wealth of knowledge that will serve them for the rest of their lives. Richard is the author of 19 books and numerous webinar programs. He is also the host of his own podcast - Let's Talk Human Behavior. Show Notes: Richard was prepared to be a person of presence and of value. He has a list of 16 laws that hold his life together. One of these is to never stay anywhere where his presence isn't appreciated. Richard has traveled and shared his research for the past 32 years. He calls it his crusade, and not his mission, because a crusade is where you go and make an impact. Life is continual education. You have to look for the opportunities and the moments that challenge you. Most people live from the outside in. In most audiences, they don't want to improve, they want an excuse. Richard created his own definition of stress that says that stress is anything in life that makes you uptight. Routines make us feel safe and comfortable but can also be traps. People who work to eliminate stress create stress. People who try to control stress make it their friend. Are you moving faster than you can manage? Slowing down for most people is a real challenge. You have to build your life on a foundation of trust in yourself. You can handle change and turn it into improvement if you bring 3 A's to your life: Adapt Adjust Align yourself Behavior never lies. The essence of truth is not what you talk about, but it is what you do. We have to be honest about our behavior. Most people want honesty as long as it's not honest. Richard has four important guiding questions: What do I really want? Why do I really want this? What price am I willing to pay to have it? What behaviors will I have to improve to get there? You can't just sit down and write a goal. Use Richard's four questions to clarify what you want with life. Writing a goal does not create direction, Richard's number one philosophy says "Why spend energy being a carbon copy when you're an original." He wants to have a positive presence that is present when he's not present. Clutter is the number 1 dysfunctional behavior in human life. Clutter is anything that holds you as a hostage to yourself. You can't improve in chaos. Richard Flint's Recharge Round What habit do you think has led to success in your life? Richard Flint is disciplined. What's the simple positive action that you take each day to move forward to achieve your goals? He doesn't do a to-do list he does an achievement list. What's your biggest life lesson and what have you learned from it? He is an original and he is perfectly designed to achieve what he needs to achieve. In 1880 the Atchison Topeka and Santa Fe railroad came to Albuquerque. But more importantly, the company located its locomotive repair shops in the town. This would change the city forever. At their height the locomotive shops employed 2,000 people. The quadrant system for Albuquerque addresses actually originated with this giant facility. In the book “Overhaul: A Social History of the Albuquerque Locomotive Repair Shops” from University of New Mexico Press, Richard Flint and Shirley Cushing Flint explore how these shops became the catalyst for the modern city.
In this week's episode, we have the honor of having Richard Flint. there are no difficult people there are only different personalities "Difficult" happens when we don't slow down and invest the time and the energy to get to know the personality. Every person is two things. They're the person that you see and their personality which you experience because it's all about gaining the insights that you need to be able to work more efficiently and more effectively with the people by understanding their personality. You can't lead a person that you don't understand The understanding comes from understanding their personality traits. Coach Vs Mentor A coach is someone who walks into a human's life at one level and a mentor comes into a human life and deals with all four rooms of their life: 1) their business 2) their family 3) their social 4) their personal The mentor's role is to be able to help them find the balance they need in order to have less stress, greater calmness and clarity. Reversing CEO Burnout Sometimes with people that have been in business for a long time the business starts to wear them down. As the business wears on them mentally it increases their emotions and their creativity is lessened. They get stuck and they're not certain what to do. The role of the mentor is to help them understand what it is that you were successfully doing previously but not doing now. Restoring The Passion What is usually missing is passion and commitment to the business. The purpose of being a leader today is being reinvented and what previously was the right way is not something that we can continue today. There has to be a change in attitude and a desire to recreate who you need to be in order to be the leader in the business today. Change Avoidance There is a lack of positive response to change out there today. The number one fear that people have with change is that it takes them out of their comfortable routine. So many people build something and then when they feel it's okay they just let it go into a world of sameness. They don't challenge it and so when the world of business reinvents itself which is what it's doing today, all of a sudden the word change becomes an important part of who they are and what they're doing. They don't know how to deal with it and so what happens is rather than change creating a process of improvement, change creates a reaction that is fueled by fear. What we have to do is get people out of the fear mentality and back into looking for what the change can create in terms of improvement. Learn More About Richard Flint
In the this episode of The Invisible Addiction podcast, I speak with Richard Flint, non-executive board member at Flutter PLC and the former CEO of SkyBet. Richard discusses the current landscape of the gambling industry and uncovers his time at SkyBet between 2007-2018. There's a wide range of topics covered which include: hearing how Richard started at SkyBet, a little bit about my gambling addiction story, football in-play betting, online casinos (SkyVegas), horse racing, ethics, legislation, regulation, advertising and sponsorships, ‘responsible' gambling rhetoric, stake limits, and VIP schemes. It's an open and frank exchange and is a podcast I know will be of interest to many of us. I'm hugely excited to share it with you. Thanks for listening, Alex :)
