Interview with Vanbur - In this episode of Sync Music Matters I'm chatting to Vanbur aka Jessica Jones and Tim Morrish. We'll be chatting about their work on One Day, the Netflix adaptation of the novel by David Nichols which interestingly, seems to resemble their story. We'll also be digging into their creative process, the power of collaborating and the liberating power of restricting yourself creatively. We also chat Jaffa cakes... again! Vanbur is the artist project of composers Jessica Jones and Tim Morrish. Their sound can best be described as ethereal vocals floating on a bed of contemporary and haunting cinematic score. They recently worked alongside Anne Nikitin on the score for Netflix's One Day and also had a number of their Vanbur tracks featured as part of the soundtrack. Independently they've worked on shows like the long running comedy drama series Brassic, Netflix's true crime show American Nightmare, Tinder Swindler and Jimmy Saville: A british Horror Story They are also working on a new album due out at the end of 2025. Danny Dyer was discovered by a scout while at school in East London and landed his first acting role in Prime Suspect 3 in 1994. He gained a reputation for playing the tough guy and films like Human Traffic (1999) and The Football Factory (2004) put him on the road to stardom. Danny is most famous for his portrayal of Mick Carter in EastEnders from 2013 to 2022. Ryan Sampson was born in Rotherham and studied acting at Drama Centre London. He began his career on stage in various theatrical productions. His big break came in 2013, when he played Grumio in the historical sitcom Plebs on ITV2. Ryan also appeared in Brassic with Michelle Keegan in 2019. Ryan wrote and stars in the new comedy series Mr Bigstuff with Danny Dyer. As a sign of what's to come, Danny and Ryan request a glass of something strong before they sit down at the Dish table. Nick obliges and pours some Edmundo Malbec, an Argentinian red, recommended by the experts at Waitrose. He then gets to work on their favourite cocktail, an old fashioned. Meanwhile, Angela is busy in the kitchen slow-roasting a shoulder of lamb with anchovies, oregano and garlic with roast potatoes. Danny and Ryan are an unlikely pair but their chemistry is undeniable, making this Dish double-date unmissable. Our foursome talks vinaigrettes, pesto and couscous before tackling the important topic of modern masculinity, inspired by their new show, out now on Sky. Danny Dyer is well-known for his ‘colourful' language; please be aware that there is swearing throughout this week's episode. All recipes from this podcast can be found at waitrose.com/dishrecipes A transcript for this episode can be found at waitrose.com/dish We can't all have a Michelin star chef in the kitchen, but you can ask Angela for help. In the late 16th century, the Merseyside town of Prescot had the only purpose-built, indoor theatre outside London. Now the Shakespeare North Playhouse, a £38 million architectural representation of a Shakespearean stage, opens there this weekend. Samira Ahmed is joined by Laura Collier, the theatre's creative director and the writer and performer Ashleigh Nugent who have co-curated Open Up, the opening festival. Front Row is hearing from the five museums nominated to be this year's Museum of the Year and tonight it's the turn of Tŷ Pawb in Wrexham. Reporter Adam Walton takes a tour of the museum and finds why the museum is at the heart of the local community. Danny Brocklehurst is the Bafta-award winning writer behind Shameless, Clocking Off and Brassic. He joins Samira to discuss turning to more family friendly fare in The Railway Children Return. In his sequel, set 50 years after the classic 1970 film, Jenny Agutter's Bobbie is a grandmother and former Suffragette, and the titular children are evacuees from Manchester.
