Our guest on this episode of Discover Lafayette is Lauren Bercier, co-founder and CEO of Something Borrowed Blooms, a rent and return floral boutique in Upper Lafayette located at 102 Max Drive.  Created with her cousin and co-founder Laken Swan in 2015, Something Borrowed Blooms’ design team creates wedding flower collections using premium silk flowers. Lauren Bercier with co-founder (and cousin) Laken Swan The floral arrangements, boutonnieres, table arrangements, and other designs are rented out to brides across the U. S and Canada and delivered in a manner similar to Amazon Prime. The bride receives her shipment two days prior to the wedding date with a prepaid return label and packaging to make the receipt and return stress-free and enjoyable. The shipment is topped with a liner that treats the recipient to the scent of fresh flowers. The concept is similar to Rent the Runway where you can rent premium clothing for a fraction of the cost. In the case of a typical wedding, brides may spend $2000 to $3500 and up for flowers. They can rent similar arrangements from Something Borrowed Blooms for $500.00 and pocket the rest of their budget to be spent on other needs or perhaps, put in the bank for a rainy day! Millennials bring a different sensibility in planning a wedding today than in days gone by. Many are marrying at a later age, paying for the wedding themselves, and are cost-conscious. Wedding budgets have been on the decline and millennials are more focused on the experience rather than needlessly overspending on the dress or flowers. Changing trends have opened the door to acceptance of this new rental concept which can provide great cost savings. Something Borrowed Blooms was chosen in 2018 as Startup of the Year by Junior Achievement of Acadiana 21st Business Hall of Fame." While Lauren and Laken originally envisioned 12 weddings a month as a successful business endeavor, the company in 2020 now ships out approximately 500 floral packages a month. Business has steadily increased and the company experienced a 248% growth in sales in 2019. Lauren and Laken keep up with current trends in bridal fare by attending the annual Bridal Fashion Week. 2019 color trends leaned to muted dusty mauves and roses. In 2020, the popular colors are jewel tones with a deep green being popular. Something Borrowed Blooms' most popular collection has been the 'Olivia' which is a soft, muted palette of ivory roses, mini ranunculus, rosemary & olive bushes. Other popular collections include the "Taylor" Collection which is composed of antique beige peonies, lavender scabiosa, and a variety of ivory-colored roses, as well as the 'Jane' and 'Cameron' Collections, all of which you can view here. The Olivia Collection outsells all others by three to one.Olivia Aisle Marker is one example of accessories that may be rented. The newest option is the Taylor Collection with antique beige peonies. Lauren's advice for other entrepreneurs who are starting up their own business: Find your # 1 thing that differentiates you. If you copy what others are doing, you will be lost in the crowd. Something Borrowed Blooms is on the fast-track to achieving great success by following Lauren's sage advice of finding that perfect niche market, and of course, through the team's sheer discipline and hard work! Update as of March 11, 2020: Something Borrowed Blooms was the 2019 FedEx Small Business Grant Contest Bronze Prize Winner. You can visit Fed Ex's website here to read more about their journey in shipping and how they rely upon FedEx for the delivery of their wares. On this week's 25th episode of the Ultimate Guide to Partnering, my guest is Tony DiBenedetto, the Chairman, CEO and Co-founder of Tribridge, a DXC company. Tribridge recently won Microsoft's highest honor as the 2017 Dynamics Partner of the Year. Several of my friends in the industry recommended Tony as an interview guest and he didn't disappoint. Tony's career is pretty amazing. A few highlights include 30 years of experience in the technology industry, the recipient of numerous leadership awards, including the Ernst & Young Florida Entrepreneur of the Year Award, and induction in the Florida State University College of Business Hall of Fame. Recently CRN Magazine ranked him among the top 25 technology disruptors in the country. Tony co-founded Tribridge in 1998 and led the company through the successful acquisition and integration of several companies, resulting in a compounded annual growth rate of over 40% each year. Under his guidance, Tribridge has grown from a start-up to one of the leading technology companies in the United States and Microsoft Dynamics Partner of the Year status. Tony and I had a really great conversation on Tribridge's journey to premier status with Microsoft, some of Tribridge's successful solution areas, where he sees the business moving forward now as part of DXC, his secret sauce in partnering with Microsoft and his professional journey. I'm so excited to have you here on our podcasts. Tribridge has been a premier Microsoft Dynamics Partner for quite some time, award-winning partner and your organization has done some great work. In fact one of our previous guests, Mike Bat, on episode four, specifically discussed the success with Tribridge in opening up new markets in the government space. So it's an exciting time for you, given the firm's recent acquisition by DXC and your 2017 award for Partner of the Year, so I'm so excited to have you, welcome to the podcast. Tony D:               Vince, it's great to be here and appreciate to have the time today. Vince M:             So I want to dive right in and have a lot of questions here to ask about you and the business so why don't we just start off with you're the CEO and co-founder of Tribridge and for our listeners I thought it would be great if you could take them through the genesis of the business from its founding and what were the early days like, your guiding principles when you started so could you do that? Tony D:               Sure, at the time I was a partner at Arthur Andersen in the business consulting division and to be honest with you, I just year after year had a thirst for starting my own company. I had started a couple companies early in my career at Andersen and I was at that point where I knew I was going to lead. It was just a question of what. It first started with having just some meetings at my house, where me and a couple of friends would get together and just talk about what businesses we wanted to build. We came up with crazy ideas as you might expect, some were technology and some were like a bar across from the Tampa Bay Bucs Stadium and that had a series of getting together with other entrepreneurs led to us forming Tribridge. Bob Pincus, Vice Chairman of Eagle Bank, is Our Town's host, Andy Ockershausen's, guest this week in an all new episode of on the Our Town podcast. Bob attended the University of Maryland and focused on Finance. He went on to receive a MBA from American University, where he was hired as an executive Vice President at DC National Bank by one of his professors. Bob contributed to the bank's extraordinary growth and in ten years became DC National's CEO. Bob's father owned a restaurant in Cottage City, Maryland. The restaurant was known for its crabs, and became a local hang out for many local baseball players. Although Bob, and his three brothers, grew up in Cottage City around the restaurant, Bob was the only one who worked there. During the course of Bob’s banking career, he sold several banks. His goal was always to stay within his community and remain a local banker. Andy and Bob recount many dramatic changes to the banking industry that they have seen over the years. Community service is important to Bob, and as such has served on many boards on which he has helped to enhance the quality of life in Our Town. Andy and Bob discuss their time together on a committee raising funds for children. They also served on a board together which resulted in a positive impact on the education for inner city kids in the Washington, DC area. Tennis and basketball fundraisers were (and still are!) a big hit in helping get donors to support inner city kids through this foundation. Bob explains more to Andy about the I Have A Dream Foundation in which he and his wife sponsored an inner city child beginning early in their lives. They helped them all along their school career in DC and then, upon graduation, they paid for their college education. 33 out of 35 of the children in this program graduated from high school. Now they are back in the community and serving as role models for other children in similar life situations. Bob Pincus has been awarded many honors. Among these honors and awards, Andy speaks to Bob about becoming a member of the Business Hall of Fame and Washingtonian of the Year. Andy also noted how other award recipients will oftentimes mentioned Bob in their acceptance speech. Bob sees this as a huge honor and believes wholeheartedly in enhancing the business community. His actions have brought such energy and vitality to this community and it makes the DC area a better place to live and work. Bob and Andy also talk about the movement to bring baseball to Washington. Bob and some of his friends began a campaign to bring baseball to DC but, due to a suffering economy in 1991, the proposal fell through. However, this effort brought energy to the cause and now, ten years later, there is a baseball team here. He’s a fan and goes to the games as often as possible. He loves how baseball has brought entertainment to the area, making it a better place to live. Due to baseball in DC, this area of town is prospering with new places to live, businesses and restaurants all around. Few things make Bob happier than to see a dream like this come to light! Currently, Bob is Vice Chairman of Eagle Bank. He claims that Eagle Bank is “growing like a weed” and attributes a lot of it’s success to the branding of the bank. Eagle is expanding into all parts of Northern Virginia. Bob Pincus is such a successful businessman as well as a man of public service dedicated to enriching his community. Due to Bob’s efforts, the quality of life in the DC area has evolved to what it is today. Andy wraps up the interview by making sure to let Bob know how much we all appreciate what he has done for DC. We hope you have enjoyed this week’s episode of Our Town with Andy Ockershausen.
