In an AA Files 26 essay from 1993, Paul Hirst suggested Foucualt's relevance to architecture lay in his breaking down ‘the barrier between the common-sense category of objects and that of discourse: words, explanations, programmes, etc., which are held to be about objects. In architecture this yields the stubborn and conclusive distinction between buildings as objects, and architectural theories, programmes and teaching that are about buildings. This installs a split between architecture and architectural discourse. The building is an object or non-discursive entity around which float the words of discourse.' We face a challenge of understanding information. Because information is considered as something that is written in a book, in a message in a newspaper, it's not understood as something that two bacteria can exchange. And then there is the social challenge, because we think typically of an individual,  an individual human, but not about the distributed cognition in a social setting, both for humans, but also for smaller organisms like cells. So, the idea of cognition on the basic level of the smallest living organism, which is the cell has been very difficult for many people to accept and to understand that everything starts on the level of cell. And some people would say that even parts of the cell have some cognitive properties.There is much  controversy in cognitive science, between people who consider cognition only as symbol manipulation and language, human language, and the people who claim that we have to take into account how much of processes that  underlie cognition are done within the body and the environment. So it's embodied embedded, an active combination. It's not hanging in a vacuum. It's, it's, it's connected with the world. And we were very much interested to get this discussion between colleagues who believe in different views, to get them together and to get this discussion showing where the positions are, and is their common ground and how we go further.Presently, Prof. Dodik-Crnkovic work focuses on intelligent computation and cognition as very important processes found in nature that we can use to inspire new technologies."Being human to me means the privilege of sharing the past and present, and anticipating the future with other humans. In 2020, Schifanelli led the effort to oppose Dr. Andrea Kane, an African American Superintendent of Queen Anne's County Schools. Dr. Kane left the school system after being criticized for her support of the Black Lives Matter movement and for advocating for racial dialogue in the majority white county. Ms. Schifanelli holds a Bachelor's degree in economics and a Masters in economics and finance from the University of Belgrade, in Serbia. She emigrated to the United States in the 1990s, and earned a law degree from the University of Baltimore School of Law. In addition to practicing law in a firm with her husband, she was until last year an adjunct faculty member at the US Naval Academy in Annapolis. Gordana Schifanelli is 51 years old, and the mother of three sons. She and her family live in Stevensville. Gordana Schifanelli joins us on Zoom. Gordana Schifanelli is a successful attorney and adjunct professor of Law and Economics at the United States Naval Academy. She came to America from war-torn Yugoslavia in 1999 and is now a U.S. citizen. Gordana and her husband Marc, a disabled American Veteran, now retired, who spent 22 years as the Army Special Forces Officer, have a strong history together of fighting for America and our freedom.  They are small business owners here in Maryland.
