1984 was the year that saw the introduction of the Apple Macintosh, the launch of the Technology, Entertainment, Design conference, and the year the world learned of the terrifyingly destructive potential of A.I. courtesy of Skynet and The Terminator.   1984 is more than just the title of George Orwell's cautionary, dystopian novel or Van Halen's wildly successful 6th album. 1984 is the year that heavy metal began to intensify exponentially, including the continued evolution of thrash and black metal, as well as the release of “the ultimate anthem” that resulted in one of the greatest music videos in heavy metal history.   Prepare for some “great pod” and one of the most “brilliant” voicemails we've ever received, including our first ever “beer of the voicemail”.  Discover the identify of “the BIGGEST KISS fan” (courtesy of “Blind Dog Malmsteen”), learn what W.A.S.P. actually stands for, as opposed to what we thought it meant (which is actually way funnier), grab yourself some “Scoobitaboosh” in preparation for our Animalize album dive (available exclusively on Patreon), break out your “electric twanger” and JOIN US as we journey back in time to the Year In Metal: 1984.   Visit www.metalnerdery.com/podcast for more on this episode Leave us a Voicemail to be played on a future episode: 980-666-8182 Support Metal Nerdery - https://www.patreon.com/metalnerderypodcast   Metal Nerdery Tees and Hoodies – metalnerdery.com/merch and kindly leave us a review and/or rating on the iTunes/Apple Podcasts - Spotify or your favorite Podcast app Listen on iTunes, Spotify, Podbean, Google Podcasts or wherever you get your Podcasts. Hello Rivet Heads, On this week's show, we present a Truly unique look behind the "Metal Curtain" as we speak to Brittany Chapman, the daughter of the late Paul Chapman, Guitarist of UFO. This is her story we have dubbed " Growing up Chapman". Brittany is the youngest of Paul's 3 children via 4 marriages, as well as being the only girl. Since Paul's death in June of 2020, Brittany has received condolence's and well wishes from fans and musicians from all over the world. The magnitude of her late father's finger print on the global rock community has been humbling to say the least for Brittany. You see, to us fans, Paul Chapman was a "ROCK STAR", but to Brittany he was her dad. Brittany shares countless stories of her family upbringing with her father, Mother, Step Mother's, step siblings, nine grandsons and two granddaughters. You really get a look at Paul Chapman”, THE DAD" with his love of cooking and music. His connection to all 4 of his wives and how he was able to keep a positive family unit together while combining step children with his own children. Brittany shares her admiration for her mother Cheryl whom she refers to as the real “GOAT” of the family. Fun stories include putting up with the passed-out road crew of L.A. glam band in her living room to late night shenanigans involving swords. Brittany reflects back on her dad's love of cooking. Always preparing big meals with guitar in hand, for friends and family. Family was everything to Paul. It wasn't always easy, Paul wasn't perfect, but he had a perfect heart and loved both his close family and his music family. Finally, Brittany shares the continuous reach out from Her Dad's colleagues. Phil Collen and Joe Elliot of Def Leppard, Billy Sheehan, Rudy Sarzo, Kirk Hammett, Nicko McBrain and Radio DJ Eddie Trunk. The list goes on and on... Paul touched all of these music giants in a way that Brittany is just now fully realizing. "Growing up Chapman '' is Brittany Chapman's story and it's a Damn good one! Paul Chapman (9 June 1954 – 9 June 2020) was a Welsh rock guitarist best known for his work in bands such as UFO and Lone Star. Chapman first joined UFO in 1974-1975 as a second guitarist for the live shows. He left UFO in January 1975 and went on to form Lone Star. Chapman later rejoined UFO in December 1978 on a full-time basis. Chapman recorded his first album with UFO – No Place to Run – It was released in January 1980. Chapman remained in UFO until 1983 In 1984 he joined Waysted and recorded the albums The Good the Bad the Waysted and Save your Prayers. Chapman also went on to form a new band PCP (Paul Chapman Project) and in July 2006, Chapman joined the American southern rock band Gator Country, a collection of Molly Hatchet veterans. In 2015, Chapman went out for a 10-week US tour with the Swedish/Canadian band Killer Bee. Chapman died on his 66th birthday on 9 June 2020. He left two sons, a daughter, nine grandsons and two granddaughters. He was well known by his nickname "Tonka", allegedly acquired because of his indestructible qualities. R.I.P. Giff couldn't get enough of this classic in 1987, and he still can't now. Does it hold up for Brad and Pete? What about the few songs that weren't hits? How does it compare to Pyromania? Local government issues join statement calling out racist behaviourCowichan Valley residents honked horns and drove around the region in a convoy of 50 vehicles yesterday, in a show of solidarity with Cowichan Tribes members. An ongoing COVID-19 outbreak among Tribes has led to an alarming number of anti-Indigenous comments and treatment by some residents and local businesses. Cowichan Tribes member Joe Elliot says the rally was a positive show of force. “It was awesome! It was awesome to witness. Most of the people we passed, there was a lot of support people coming out, waving their hands and honking their horns in appreciation. so I thank the organizers for that support.”—Cowichan Tribes member Joe Elliot. The mayors of Duncan and North Cowichan along with Cowichan Chief Willie Seymour reacted to the recent events with a joint statement on Friday. In it, the leaders called out racist behaviour by some businesses, advising them to stop asking customers if they live on reserve, and then refusing service to those who do. The tribes say the stress of the outbreak and the racist reactions has made many fearful to venture out for groceries. Cowichan Tribes Councillor Stephanie Atleo took part in an anti-racism forum after the car rally. She called upon her non-indigenous neighbours for support."What would you do if you were standing in line and the cash register asked the brown person in front of you if they're allowed off the reserve to be shopping? What would you do if you were the person who was next in line? So those are the questions that I am challenging those watching right now."—Cowichan Tribes Councillor Stephanie Atleo.Outbreak at Nanaimo Regional General HospitalMeanwhile, a COVID-19 outbreak has been declared at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital. It's the second in as many months. The latest outbreak involves 2 staff and one patient. The health authority says the hospital's fourth-floor east wing is locked down. Staff, there will not be working in other areas of the hospital and patients on the fourth and fifth floors, along with those in rehab will not be transferred to care homes while the outbreak is underway. The hospital suffered another outbreak in November when five staff in the transitional care unit tested positive for COVID-19.And there is another case of COVID-19 at a long term care home in Nanaimo. Island Health says a second staff member at Chartwell Malaspina Care Residence has tested positive. It says the staff member had been working on one of the ongoing outbreak units. Seven residents and two staff have now tested positive for the virus since the outbreak began on December the 27th.Local photographer wins competitionFinally, a shout out to Cumberland photographer and teacher Sara Kemper for placing first in a Canadian Geographic Photography Competition. Kemper took first place in the magazine's "What is Home? Location Photo Competition." Her winning shot is the beach at Seal Bay, where she grew up. Kemper calls it "an homage to my childhood."

Today on the BOMB (Best of Morning Bull), we had flashbacks from the past 5 years of the show! Where would you want to be or go if YOU were invisible? You answered us in honor of the release of the Invisible Man movie and of course Robs imagination. We were trying to be nice to those in need. So Bull was trying to find someone to give his jar of change to and stumbled into a description of a lady with turds on her shoulder instead. It also revealed that Bull has never seen Mary Poppins. Who doesnt like to complain at and about work? For instance; sometimes its really hot or cold in the studio and stuff doesnt work. So back in 2018 we looked into and researched some professional analysis that suggests its good to complain at and about work! Something being 'good for your health' seems to be very subjective nowadays. This was somewhat confirmed for us when we read back in 2017 that eating boogers is good for your health...!! They even invented gum to taste like it! Twitter is a huge part of our social lives now so back in 2016 we tried to come up with a relevant game that helps contestants learn hashtags while at the same time, using them to figure out and guess clues! This game involved doctors! Russo is the crazy loud voice of Lancaster Speedway and we had him scream as many names of towns and suburbs of Buffalo as we could in the same vein as that! Fred Jackson stopped by on the phone back in 2017 to check in with the city of Buffalo and tell us how hes been doing and where he calls home now! We spoke with actress and comedienne Jane Lynch in November of last year and we found out some cool stuff about her personal life including that she is totally sober! Joe Elliot of Def Leppard stopped by early this year to talk about their tour, which at the time, was supposed to come through Buffalo but now we know is not. Armed with some facts, figures and a few personal anecdotes we explore the role of the good old fashioned pub, from the allure of escapism in drinking and the psychology of abstaining from drink entirely.
