Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day for July 28, 2024 is: dulcet DUL-sut adjective Dulcet is a formal word used to describe sounds that are pleasant to hear. It is often used in the phrase “dulcet tones.” // Jolie recalled warm memories of falling asleep to the dulcet tones of her grandmother's lullabies. See the entry > Examples: “It's an understatement to say that Paris Is Burning was everything to me. Seeing it finally put a name on what I had somehow known existed perhaps through family conversations, run-ins in the city, and pop cultural dots connected over a couple decades of life—BALLROOM. I was finally able to say, ‘There it is!' My takeaways from that cult classic are numerous: The dulcet tones of Pepper LaBeija, draped in silk in a lamplit corner, chain-smoking and unravelling the yarn of how she became the next mother of the very first house in Ballroom, the House of LaBeija.” — Ricky Tucker, And the Category Is… : Inside New York's Vogue, House, and Ballroom Community, 2021 Did you know? Some of the most dulcet tones in American folk music are said to come from the dulcimer, a fretted stringed instrument traditionally played on the lap and integral to the work of such sweet-voiced musicians and song collectors as Jean Ritchie, Loraine Wyman, and Margaret MacArthur. The essence of dulcet, after all, is sweetness; the word has been in use in English since the 1400s describing not only desserts and other confections that are pleasing for their literal sweetness, but figuratively sweet things such as smiles and even balmy weather. Dulcet is today used most often, however, to describe sounds, including melodies, voices, and especially tones with a notably honeyed quality. Fittingly, dulcet comes from the Latin word for “sweet,” dulcis, an ancestor of many musical English words, including the musical direction dolce (“to be played sweetly”), Dulciana (a type of pipe organ stop), dolcian (a small bassoon-like instrument), and, of course, dulcimer.
Dulcet-toned vocalist Lizz Wright celebrates 20 years as a recording artist with a new career-defining album, Shadow. Wright drafts five new songs to showcase alongside some of the great classic songwriters, including Cole Porter, Sandy Denny, and Candi Staton, and enlists friends like Angelique Kidjo and, on Today's Top Tune, Meshell Ndegeocello on bass and Brandee Younger on harp for “Your Love.”

The Sparrow is a tribute to his love of birds and The Farm Child's Lullaby is a sweet goodnight poem to children during the cold winter. #Dunbar150 is a tribute to Dunbar's literary genius as his image is on a US postage stamp, a commemorative US gold coin, and a driver's license plate in the state of Ohio.Relax and enjoy Aunti Oni's sweet rendition just for you!Poems: (c) The Sparrow by Paul Laurence DunbarMusic: (c) From Tree to Paper by Clarence ReedPoem: (c)The Farm Child's Lullaby by Paul Laurence DunbarMusic: (c) Dulcet by Leimoti Mix & mastered by DJ King CanalSee Aunti Oni here; Aunti Oni.funIf you love The Sparrow & The Farm Child's Lullaby, share it with your family & friends everywhere, thanks! We would love to meet you! Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day for August 19, 2020 is: dulcet DUL-sut adjective 1 : sweet to the taste 2 : pleasing to the ear 3 : generally pleasing or agreeable Examples: "James Blake has long been one of our favorite live performers, bringing his gentle, dulcet tenor and aching emotion to each and every concert." — Patrick Ryan, USA Today, 10 Apr. 2020 "About six weeks after bottling, the stout proved to be great. It was full bodied and rich with a dark chocolate note, roasted flavors, tart and dulcet cherry flavors and a bit of tannins like you would find in a fine red wine." — Gordon Kendall, The Roanoke (Virginia) Times, 24 Mar. 2020 Did you know? Dulcet has many linguistic ancestors, including the Latin dulcis, Anglo-French douz, and Middle English doucet—all meaning "sweet." The dulcet dulcis has contributed many sweet terms to English. Among these are the musical direction dolce ("to be played sweetly, softly"), Dulciana (a type of pipe organ stop made up of flue pipes), dolcian (a small bassoon-like instrument used in the 16th and 17th centuries), and dulcimer (an American folk instrument). On a similar note, the word dulcify means "to make sweet," and the adjective doux, derived from Old French douz, is used in wine circles to describe champagne that is sweet.

Projektowanie odpowiedzialne i unikalne oznacza często świadomy powrót do korzeni. Rzemiosło przenika do innych branż. In the streets, where true might is chosen. The podcast games of have been gathered, the categories curated and our three podcasting pedants re-assembled, it’s time to hand out the 2019 NOCLIP Awards! As is tradition every year, for one year, we have organized a list of highly relevant categories, such as “Least Likely to be Compared to Dark Souls” and “Worst Map”, and will be deciding the best of the best or the…smashiest of the smashy…games we’ve played this year, not in clickbait YouTuber top ten list form, but in a spirited debate to really get to the heart of the issues. Thanks for joining us again this year! How do you feel about our choices? Are we the pinnacle of good taste, are our categories so thought provoking they’re keeping you up at night? If so, join the discussion over on Discord or in comments or something! Which games did you play this year that felt like Oscar bait? I genuinely need to know.

Dulcet-toned comedian Matt Berry joins us to discuss two new projects: a BBC TV spin-off of the 2014 cult mockumentary What We Do in the Shadows in which Berry plays a jaded 700 year-old vampire, and his new role as Detective Inspector Rabbit, a hardened Victorian booze-hound, in Channel 4’s period comedy Year of the Rabbit. Men make a mess of the world with the First World War. Afterwards a female messiah emerges to lead humanity to salvation, through the work of a community of women in Bedford. That is the milieu of Claire McGlasson’s first book, The Rapture. Her work of fiction, though, is based on fact: the real-life Panacea Society. Claire tells Front Row about her strange love story psychological thriller escape novel. Yesterday the National Trust announced they had bought Brackenthwaite Hows, the Lake District viewpoint that inspired JMW Turner’s watercolour Crummock Water, Looking Towards Buttermere. The site, which is 77 acres and includes a stone viewing-platform, is the first bought by charity specifically for its panorama. The National Trust’s General Manager for North Lakes Tom Burditt explains the site’s appeal. As Vasily Grossman’s 1952 Russian novel Stalingrad is published for the first time in English, critic Boyd Hilton argues that it is one of the greatest novels of the 20th Century: an epic comparable to Tolstoy’s War and Peace. B_Don and Donkey Teeth are back at it: grinding the sausage, stuffing the sausage, and inserting the sausage into various holes. This week they take a close look at two young arms off to very promising starts to the 2019 season: Yonny Chirinos and Spencer Turnbull. The guys also discuss German Marquez's first rocky 2019 outing in Coors, Max Fried's emergence into relevance, and Baseball Savant's fantastic new film review features. The show is rounded out with some rapid fire pickup options. Don't miss out on this once in a lifetime opportunity to insert the sausage into your ear holes!
Today’s word of the day is dulcet, D-U-L-C-E-T. Dulcet is an adjective that means pleasing to taste or hear. Our word of the day is a versatile one that may be used in a wide range of contexts. Dulcet comes from the Latin Dulcis (DOOL chees) that simply means sweet, pleasant or agreeable. Although it may refer to any of the five senses, the two most commonly cited are taste and sound. After a hard day of work at the factory, Andy had an unusual way to unwind. He’d lay in his backyard and savor the dulcet tones of crickets chirping. Once again, the spelling of dulcet is D-U-L-C-E-T.
What if music had no beginning, no end? Can music exist "for itself" or "of itself," without structure constraining it, defining it? Can music be non-linear, non-narrative, simply experiential, existential? The second full-length album on Mysteries of the Deep, Musica Enterrada from Portland's William Selman, neither answers these questions nor supposes them. But in listening, one can't help but wonder: What if I disappeared into this record forever? In another time and place, William Selman was known as Warmdesk, an alias through which he issued a series of sharply precise minimal techno records. In recent past, Selman shifted gears, shedding the dynamics of tension and release that characterized his previous alias' output. Under his own name, Selman began releasing process-oriented, freeform experimental music on cassette-focused outlets like Digitalis and Hausu Mountain. Now comes Musica Enterrada, a diaphanous, weightless musical vision not unlike the theoretical square root of GRM and Popol Vuh's early electronic forays. Split into six tracks across two sides of vinyl, Musica Enterrada bubbles, churns, drifts, and dozes. Dulcet tones pile up gently like waves on shore. Patterns repeat and reconfigure, as if heard from different angles. Rhythms appear, shift the frame, then disappear, into the ether whence they came. Play Musica Enterrada on repeat. And if you disappear into it, fret not — you have drifted into solace. A1. Lithic Reduction A2. Thick Description A3. Polysemy B1. The World Without Us B2. Inferno Of The Same B3. In this episode, we interview Craig Urbanator, the dude in the Guy Fawkes mask who plays guitar outside. We also chat a little bit about Necto's history, Charlie's demon dog, the Nickels Arcade, and the Freshman 15 (or, hopefully, the Freshman 100). It's funny! This episode sponsored by Dave's Power Outlets Ypsilanti/Ann Arbor. Correction: Eugene, in this ep, incorrectly referred to Monet's getaway as "Givenchy," when in fact is it "Giverny." If you still think the audio is bad, oooh baby, just wait one episode from now, when you'll hear our DULCET tones wash over your ears in a whole new way. Theme music by The Stellars!
We headed over to Manly last Friday evening to spread the Attic deeper disco vibes at Havana Beach Club for the 'Original Vibe' brand @originalvibemusic. We arrived, loaded with plenty of new weapons we were itching to play: new cuts from Folamour's @folamour new album—no surprises there obviously!—as well as Ari Bald @aribald, Cody Currie @1codycurrie, Ethyène @ethyene and Black Loops @blackloops. Despite the unseasonal rainy weather, there was a healthy turnout, who warmly danced the night away and rocked out to our tunes. Of course, we were also joined by an excellent all-star cast from Sydney's house and disco DJ community, too, with Mr. Ben Korbel @ben-korbel on headline duties, the Original Vibe Man himself, Jordan Waller @jordanmwaller and the highly-accomplished DJ/producer trio, Dulcet @dulcetsyd! Many thanks to Jordan and the Original Vibe Team. We had a highly enjoyable evening! Tim Wilson FINALLY gets his ride on Ride This One. As the Co-Host of The Civil Gore Podcast, Tim is usually drooling over horror films and bad movie franchises rather than roller coasters. We just had to bring him on the show to emasculate him about his tiny coaster count. We also felt pretty guilty, since The Wilson Brothers have been producing sketches for us ever since we locked them down in the basement. Its only fair that Tim get his turn since Kevin has been on the show like a million times. Come get your Crab Fries ladies and gentlemen, this is going to be one crazy dulcet toned filled adventure. IN THIS EPISODE: Kentucky Kingdom says they're shutting down their Hurricane Bay Georgia Cyclone gets some RMC lovin Busch Gardens, Williamsburg gets its sexy 315 ft coaster approved. Wrapping up this two-part series on Morgan le Fay, we'll see her devious schemes within schemes come to fruition with one aim in mind: killing King Arthur and seizing the throne for herself. The creature this week is fish man, from Spain. He's kind of like a superhero if all superheroes did was lay around and drink wine at their parents' house. ---------- Sponsors: Hey, so Mother's Day is this weekend. As in three days from today. Still looking for something? You can show your mom you're thinking about her and you don't even have to look up from your phone. She doesn't have to know how easy it is and that it took basically no time. We won't tell her. We probably don't even know her. Unless this is Mike, in which case, hi Mike! There are two excellent options: Shari's Berries. Super easy. You know why? Because they somehow got the domain http://berries.com. They're delicious and they look fantastic. I got them for my mom on her birthday and my mother-in-law for Mother's Day. You can get her huge, freshly dipped berries starting at $19.99 plus shipping, and you can double the berries for $10. Just go to berries.com and use the code MAL when you click on the mic. Or maybe flowers are your thing. Aren't you glad you listen to this podcast? We have you covered there, too. ProFlowers cracked the code on sending people fresh, beautiful flowers. Ours have been going strong for over a week - way longer than flowers from a supermarket or florist AND I am just realizing I forgot to change the water after three days like I was supposed to. They're that good. Check out http://proflowers.com and use the code MAL. Both are so easy, that in the time you took reading this you could have Mother's Day wrapped up. We're just looking out for you. Also please don't forget to use code MAL it keeps the lights on. ---------- Music: “Lamplist” by Blue Dot Sessions “One Needle” by Blue Dot Sessions “Parissi” by Blue Dot Sessions “Tuck and Point” by Blue Dot Sessions “Please Listen Carefully” by Jahzzar “60s Quiz Show” by Podington Bear “A1 Rogue” by Podington Bear “All The Colors In The World” by Podington Bear “Canoe” by Podington Bear “Climbing the Mountain” by Podington Bear “Dulcet” by Podington Bear “Loam” by Podington Bear “Modest House” by Podington Bear “Rythn” by Podington Bear

When she moved to Florida, Dellani Oakes had no idea the history was so rich and fascinating. Visiting St. Augustine for the first time, she felt the allure of the country's oldest city. She decided then to write a story based there. It wasn't until nearly 12 years later that 'Indian Summer' took its final form. Dellani is a happily married mother of 4, a substitute teacher, and a former English teacher. When she is not one of the above, she is an avid writer, spending every possible moment immersed in her other worlds. She has also written a series of futuristic romance novels, contemporary romances and short stories. In an interview with self-publishing site, Smashwords, Dellani, shared, "I've been telling stories since childhood. I started writing short stories in high school and plays in college. I first attempted novel writing in 1988, but I never finished it. Maybe one day. I took up writing as a serious vocation in 2002, when my youngest started kindergarten." Dellani added, "I had a nomadic childhood. My father was an English professor and we moved a lot. I lived in Tennessee, Ohio, Massachusetts, Texas, Nebraska and Mississippi before coming to Florida. It gave me a wonderful variety of settings and people to choose from in my writing. Under the Western Sky is set in Nebraska in 1976. 'The Ninja Tattoo' takes place in present-day Florida. 'Indian Summer' is set in Florida's past in 1739." http://youtu.be/wXFI-sGPBtE
