In this week's episode we get back into the Big Links controversy as Nicki Minaj and the barbs are now down with Trinidad Killa but no without an apology. Trinidad responds through voices like KG & Nelly Cotton and they'll surely feel vindicated. We're left to speculate how Fullblown, Rachel and Chinese Laundry feel about this but judging from Trinidad Killa's hostage inspired Louis Vuitton adorned apology all might be well that ends well.PNM is probably very grateful for Canaval drama as their internal fighting seemed to take the back burner this week as Amery Brown steps aside to make way for Hans Des Vignes.Kamla not on that back burner scene though. She congratulated Trump but took some time to bun a fire on Biden and his woke agenda.Tune in and Enjoy!!!
On today's show we talked about life, we talked about music, and then we got into some fitness and diet related questions from you!One was about increasing cardio, or eating less food to lose weight. Another was about if there are any good reasons to start dieting. The final one was about differentiating between being mentally tired and physically tired, and how we should manage our fitness routines around that.Very good questions! We had a very good time, a laugh and a giggle. We hope you enjoy today's episode!Links mentioned in episode:Honest review of Chinese Laundry - https://vm.tiktok.com/ZGdJ5geFS/

Oi Oi, been a minute since the April party but I've finally gotten around to publishing this recording of the licorice pizza connoisseur @jnr-5 rinsing jungle and footwork for the closing 2 hours of that party! The vibes were outrageous! A huge thankyou to JNR for lending his skills to the evening, and an extra thank you to AT81 for the surprise b2b at the end of the set. This set was meant to be a b2b between myself and JNR but it unfortunately didn't work out that way. Fittingly, I will be playing at JNR's night at Chinese Laundry on the 3rd of August. Pots and Pans in abundance ❤

A police commissioner is pointing to the numbers to tell us why we shouldn't study the numbers. Someone needs to check on The Express and their stance on the vaccine. Is everyone who was marching around the savannah ok? Chinese Laundry & Kernel Roberts drop the Audrey Riddim - should classics like Sugar Bum Bum be left alone? Apparently a carnival is still being considered. We also discuss Kanye West & Antonio Brown rants & much more.Enjoy!!
Margo Chase became a graphic designer almost by accident. In college, Chase was determined to become a veterinarian and in an attempt to get a higher GPA, signed up for a graphic design course. She discovered her love of solving problems creatively and attempted to combine her two loves of science and design by getting a masters degree in medical illustration. Chase realized she wouldn't have the creative freedom she wanted and dropped out of school to become a full time designer. Some of her first jobs were designing album covers and typefaces for Geffen Records, Columbia, Warner Brothers, and Capitol Records. She worked on album typography for Madonna, Prince, Cher, Bonnie Raitt, and Selena, even winning a Grammy for her work on Cher's album Love Hurts. Her bold, goth calligraphic style got her noticed as the queen of goth, and she was hired to design logos for shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel as well as for Francis Ford Coppola's film Dracula. Chase's reputation got the best of her. She wanted to break away from the entertainment industry and the ‘Queen of Goth' label. She and her team began branding for corporate businesses such as Target, and did package designs for Califia Farms, KIND, Chinese Laundry, Kama Sutra, and Campbell Soup Co. Margo Chase pushed the boundaries of what a designer could do, and always made it her mission to create the best work she could to put out into the world. Facebook and its Instagram and WhatsApp platforms were down across wide swathes of the world Monday. Facebook's internal systems used by employees also went down. A century-old building originally used as a laundry by Chinese workers at Yosemite's iconic Wawona Hotel has been restored and turned into a visitor's attraction, recognizing Chinese Americans' contributions to the early history of the national park. In this episode of Walking Distance presented by The Trek and hosted by Blissful Hiker (Alison Young), we dive into the formation of the National Park Service, and the backcountry chef behind Yosemite: Tie Sing. Sing, a Chinese-American working in the early 1900s in the midst of intense hostility towards Asian-Americans, persisted through working for national parks. Known as the “gourmet chef of the Sierra” and “the philosopher of the Sierras,” Sing Peak in Yosemite National Park is named after Tie Sing. To tell Tie Sing's story, Blissful Hiker is joined by Yenyen Chan, a Yosemite Ranger, and Jack Shu, former Superintendent of California Parks and Recreation. Blissful Hiker covers the history of Asian-Americans in America's National Parks, efforts against Asian-American hate, and how we all can pay homage to Tie Sing today. Give him a poor breakfast after he has had a bad night's sleep, and he will not care how fine your scenery is.” - Stephen Mather 2:45 - Background on Tie Sing, the Chinese-American backcountry cook who made early excursions into future national parks possible in the early 1900s. Interview with Yenyen Chan 3:20 - What was Tie Sing like? 4:04 - Tie Sing was an American who lived during a time of intense hostility towards Asian-Americans; they persisted and found jobs where they could, usually at hotels and road crews that benefitted national parks. 5:22 - Two roads built by Chinese-Americans through Yosemite are the Tioga and Wawona roads; the Tioga Road connects the valley to the east side and is the highest road in California. 6:35 - Tie Sing was the chef for the US Geological Survey, which spent a good deal of time in the backcountry. Mather recruited Sing to convince VIPs that a National Parks Service needed to be created, but also to inspect the route for the John Muir Trail. 8:32 - Robert Sterling Yard, a friend of Mather, was hired to chronicle the journey of the National Parks. He wrote about Tie Sing and his extraordinary cooking. 10:03 - Tie Sing knew how important meals with VIPs were. He contributed in a way that influenced their decision making, by writing them personalized notes at their place settings. 12:17 - Tie Sing had already made his mark before impressing the VIPs. In 1899, the chief geographer named a peak after Tie Sing on Yosemite's park boundary, called Sing Peak. Interview with Jack Shu 13:30 - Jack Shu worked as the Superintendent of California Parks and Recreation, and was board president of the Cleveland National Forest Foundation. His career has been about encouraging large institutions such as the National Park Service to tell more inclusive stories about heritage. 14:00 - Shu points out that institutional change is difficult, especially with institutions that are revered and have storied histories already. Shu wasn't entirely aware of Tie Sing or the stories of other Chinese-Americans, but decided to get involved. He designed an annual pilgrimage to Sing Peak, which he plans to dedicate a decade of his life to leading. 16:22 - The hike to Sing Peak requires two nights out, with a height of 10,500 feet and rock scrambling at the end. Both Jack Shu and Yenyen Chan have climbed the peak every year of the pilgrimage. 18:14 - Shu even helped a 70 year old woman summit the peak, who had never backpacked before, named Gladys Wong. 19:46 - In late April, Congress passed an anti-Asian hate bill, in response to the uptick in violence against Asian-Americans. The legislation will help the Department of Justice expedite review of hate crimes and perform public outreach. 21:58 - This summer, Yosemite will open an exhibit of the original Chinese Laundry buildings in Wawona Village. The story of the group's park in making the park will be on display, including Tie Sing. 22:44 - Several Asian-American hikers are raising awareness of diversity on the trail and confronting Asian American hate, all while they're hiking iconic long-distance trails. 24:44 - Keep in touch about your experiences as a hiker – and what you might like us to cover on the podcast. You can write us directly at WalkingDistance@TheTrek.co. 25:27 - The pilgrimage pays homage to Tie Sing with a potluck dinner at the end of the hike where everyone tries to outdo each other, with different themes every year. The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gentleman AKA Tristram Shandy by Laurence Sterne is the subject of this years-in-the-making episode of Backlisted. Published in nine volumes between 1759 and 1767, Sterne's cock and bull story has entertained, baffled, enchanted, infuriated and inspired readers ever since; needless to say, at Backlisted we love it. Joining John and Andy to celebrate this great, hilarious, digressive novel - or is it a series of great, hilarious, digressive novels? - are award-winning children's author Katherine Rundell and our friend Frank Cottrell-Boyce, who adapted Tristram Shandy for the big screen in 2005 as A Cock and Bull Story. As a bonus, you'll hear Steve Coogan, the star of that film, read from the book(s) - exclusively for Backlisted listeners. Also in this episode, Andy enjoys a "relentless excursion into style" with Fun in a Chinese Laundry (1965), the autobiography of film director Josef von Sternberg; while John takes a sounding of Jennifer Lucy Allan's fascinating new book The Foghorn's Lament.

We met Natalie and Andrew back in 2015 when they were guiding curious Angelinos down to Tijuana and Valle de Guadalupe for Day Trips centered around food, culture and of course a little vino + mezcal. They were calling themselves "Coast to Costa" and at the time were exclusive to only bi-national trips between California + Baja. Fast forward 5 years and the Highland Park (Los Angeles) based couple have now both left their day jobs to go 100% on the dream of building one of the most experiential travel companies around. Live set recorded by head honcho Oscar De Lima & Kris Ramea from the Refuge crew, hitting it up b2b in the Cave @ Chinese Laundry. Full of massive tunage, a few sneak peaks and the usual suspects.
They occur all over the world in some shape or form - you might know them as ravioli, empanada, gyoza, fufu, piroges, tortellini - pastries filled with savoury meat and/or vegetables or even sweet versions filled with fruit. They can be steamed, boiled, broiled, baked or fried. This episode will focus on the Chinese dumpling, and look at how this ancient food is the epitome of a food so steeped in art, history and design that, when done properly, is a little edible works of art. I will focus specifically on jiaozi, guotie, zongzi and wonton dumplings and look at stories of the Silk Road, the Chinese physician Zhang Zhongjing, the poet Qu Yuan and how dumplings, family and festivals are always linked together. I will be talking with Tongtong (Tungtong) Ren and Peiran Gong - the owners and chefs of Chinese Laundry Room. We’ll discuss the originality behind both their restaurant and the path that has taken them from their native China to London. Art by Shaoqiang Chen, Qi Baishi, Yiying L and more.

The winner also receives a fashion spread in Marie Claire magazine and a position as contributing editor for a year, and a complete sewing studio from Brother Sewing and Embroidery. To top it off, the winner receives a $100,000 grand prize to elevate their business and brand.BIOGRAPHY :Actress Alyssa Milano has spent almost her entire life in the public eye. A famous child actor, she has continued to work throughout her adulthood in both television and film. Currently, Alyssa is the host and a judge on Lifetime's “Project Runway All Stars,” alongside judges Isaac Mizrahi and Georgina Chapman. The new season of the show is set to return in the first quarter of 2016. Alyssa has a history of starring in long running successful television series. She starred on the hit WB series “Charmed” for nine years. The series' debut was the highest-rated premiere in the network's history, and continued to be a great success for Spelling and The WB. The show's international appeal has brought it to more than 100 territories around the world, spanning Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia. She also starred on the Fox cornerstone series “Melrose Place.” She began her career on ABC's “Who's the Boss” which aired for eight years. Alyssa had a recurring role on the hit NBC comedy, “My Name is Earl,” and starred in the ABC comedy, “Romantically Challenged.” Alyssa also starred in the ABC series, “Mistresses.” The sexy drama series followed four women and their sometimes scandalous romantic lives.Alyssa was seen on the big screen in Garry Marshall's “New Year's Eve,” with co-stars Robert DeNiro, Ashton Kutcher, Zac Efron, Michelle Pfeiffer, Hilary Swank and Sarah Jessica Parker and “Hall Pass,” opposite Owen Wilson and Jason Sudeikis. Alyssa's additional film credits include “Hugo Pool” co-starring Sean Penn and Robert Downey Jr., the Imagine/Universal film, “Fear,” and “Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star.” She provided a lead voice for Disney's sequel to the animated favorite “Lady and the Tramp.” She also starred in and produced the independent film “My Girlfriend's Boyfriend.”Her other role is outside the world of Hollywood, as a philanthropist. UNICEF invited Alyssa, in 2003, to become a National Ambassador, recognizing her charitable work on behalf of children. Her first trip with the organization was to Angola, Africa (May 2004) to see first-hand the issues plaguing the newly liberated country. Alyssa followed that trip with a visit to India in June 2005. She is currently working with UNICEF to educate American youth to the issues crucial to that country's evolution. She has worked on UNICEF's pivotal “Trick or Treat” campaign as an official spokesperson, and has plans to work with UNICEF on numerous projects in the future. International relief work is not new to the actress. Alyssa hosted a photography exhibition and auction in 2002, in Los Angeles raising money for charitable efforts in South Africa. An avid photographer, Alyssa displayed her own work, as well as that of school children from L.A.'s Venice Arts program. The event raised close to $50,000 for Nkosi's Haven, an organization that runs care centers in South Africa for AIDS-afflicted mothers and children. Alyssa was honored for her efforts with a humanitarian award from Sri Chinmoy: The Peace Meditation at the United Nations. It was this work that got the attention of UNICEF executives. The Global Network for Neglected Tropical Disease Control (GNNTDC), an alliance of international partnerships based at the Sabin Vaccine Institute in Washington D.C. and formalized by the Clinton Global Initiative to lead the global effort to treat, control and eliminate neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) in the world's poorest countries recently named Alyssa the organization's founding ambassador. Alyssa will continue work to raise awareness of GNNTDC and NTDs among the mainstream media and with the general public. The John Wayne Cancer Institute at Saint John's Hospital and Health Center and the Associates of Breast & Prostate Cancer Studies presented Alyssa with the Spirit of Hollywood Award in 2004, which honors individuals from the entertainment industry for their personal dedication and commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of others. Alyssa also attended the 2004 Democratic National Convention on behalf of the Creative Coalition and is an avid supporter of MTV's Rock the Vote campaign.Alyssa also has her own clothing, jewelry and eyewear line, TOUCH by Alyssa Milano. Launched in the Spring of 2007, TOUCH was born out of necessity. When Alyssa, an avid baseball fan, went to games, she wanted to wear fan gear to support her team, but found that the product mix offered in the marketplace did not address her everyday fashion needs. She felt women should be able to look stylish while cheering on their favorite team. So, she partnered with G-III Apparel Group and Major League Baseball to design and distribute a line of juniors' ladies MLB apparel. The line is not just for baseball fans anymore. She has joined forces with the NFL, NBA, NHL, NCAA, Major League Soccer, Minor League Baseball, The Kentucky Derby and NASCAR, to make TOUCH available to their fans as well. Her book, SAFE AT HOME: Confessions of a Baseball Fanatic (William Morrow), chronicles Alyssa's passion for baseball and how her love for the game has helped shape who she is.She entered the world of graphic novels with the release of “Hacktivist,” a fast-paced cyber-thriller about friendship and freedom in a time of war. The story follows Ed Hiccox and Nate Graft, the young founders of the world's most innovative social media company who moonlight secretly as one of the most notorious black-hat hacker teams on the planet. TRAFFIC JAM - "CHINESE LAUNDRY ERA EDITION" by Dj Scratch Master
Here is a new promo mix from me, replicating my recent set at Chinese Laundry, on Saturday, 1 November – supporting Subb-an (UK). The night followed immediately after the sold-out, highly-anticipated Garden Party featuring Sasha along with a fine selection of quality local support acts. Naturally, following an event of that nature, I tried to keep the tunes going in rhythmic style – and was blessed to have such a responsive up-for-it crowd dancing along. In any case, I hope you enjoy this mix as much as we did on the night! --- : Tracklisting: 01 : Steve Huerta & Urulu - 'Swing Set' (Original Mix) [Amadeus Records] 02 : Friends In Paris - 'Waiting' (Ashworth Remix) [Outer Records] 03 : Kevin Over - 'Jodye' (Original Mix) [Noir Music] 04 : Harry Wolfman - 'Ghost Notes' (Original Mix) [Voltaire Music] 05 : James Dexter - 'System Check' (Original Mix) [Lost My Dog] 06 : Tobler - 'Don't Run' (Original Mix) [Point Blank] 07 : Darius Syrossian & Hector Couto - 'Here We Come' (Original Mix) [Definition:Music] 08 : Nikola Gala - 'Got To Groove' (Oxia Remix) [Moan] 09 : Evren Ulusoy - 'Play It Again Pam' (Original Mix) [Electronique Digital] 10 : Evren Ulusoy - 'Things To Say' (Original Mix) [I Records] 11 : Kruse & Nuernberg - 'About Unity' (Original Club Mix) [Toolroom Records] 12 : D-Unity - 'Stranger Danger' (Tini Garcia Remix) [Green Kiwi Records] 13 : Dany Deep - 'Baja Gang' (Jose Oli Remix) [Happy Records] 14 : Moodshifter - 'Rush' (Original Mix) [Kommunity] 15 : Anthony Mea - 'Androfile' (Original Mix) [Nuevadeep] 16 : Return Of The Jaded - 'Everytime' (Original Mix) [303Lovers]

Rod B. & Mareis bring you the Miami Sessions @ Miami Underground Movement Paolo Mojo is firmly established as a leading light on the underground house music scene with a large global following and a consistent production schedule that keeps him in demand all over the world. A true ‘international’, there are not many countries that haven’t had a touch of the Mojo magic these days. He's earned himself a formidable global fan base thanks to his hectic schedule…Womb in Tokyo, Ministry of Sound in London, Avalon in Los Angeles, Warung Beach in Brazil, Wonderland in Ibiza, Chinese Laundry in Sydney and Zouk in Singapore are just some of the venues he graces consistently. It’s all built on the back of a consistent, high profile discography. 2011 starts with a bang with the Essential Selection playlisted ‘Mmmm Daaa’ snapped up by legendary house label Strictly Rhythm for a spring release. His much hyped ‘All Night, Alright’ is to be released on hot Italian label 303 Lovers, home of Manuel De La Mare and Alex Kenji, whose remix of the track is under development. Finally his ‘Welcome To the Factory’ sampling track of the same name has been personally approved by Angel Moraes, and is set for a spring release on Dj Chus’ Stereo Music. 2010 saw successful singles released on Noir (Crazy For You) Hysterical (Disco Kiss) and Younan Music (He's The Man). Remixes of Saeed Younan and Rainer Weichold’s for German label Great Stuff followed, as did his well received Foxhunt / Soca! single. Elsewhere, his track 1983 on Eric Prydz’ Pryda Friends has become a true club classic. He’s also released tracks on Pryda and Mouseville (the only ‘outside’ artist to do so) and a varied and vast list of other labels.. Bedrock, Saved, NRK, Cr2, Toolroom, Renaissance, Great Stuff, Positiva, EQ Recordings, Factomania, Little Mountain, Curfew Nervous, Ego Records.. the list goes on. At the heart of his work lies his own label Oosh, which over the course of the last three years has landed him two BBC Essential New Tunes and two Beatport overall top ten hits. Pete Tong also named ‘JMJ’ (2007) and ‘Sirena’ (2008) his ‘top tunes of the summer. The label has expanded to include the cream of house and techno producers such as Wally Lopez, Rene Amesz, DJ Yellow, Noir, Jim Rivers, Juan Sanchez, King Unique, Alan Fitzpatrick and Saeed Younan and the first Paolo Mojo ‘Ten To One’ compilation release will follow in February 2011. His associated podcast Ooshcast has become one of the most popular downloads around since its launch in December 2009. Its no surprise then, that he was name checked as one of the hottest producers of the year in 2008 by Pete Tong on BBC Radio One, and has scored two well received Essential mixes for Radio One already. On the compilation front he has been described by IDJ Magazine as ‘the master of the mix cd’ For evidence of this look no further than his award winning Balance 009 for EQ Recordings, now regarded as something of a classic mix compilation, or his Renaissance Digital 001. With an astonishing work ethic in the studio and his endless special re-edits, he's an innovative DJ whose enviable technical ability and a thriving, huge loyal underground fanbase ensure that he will remain a star of the scene for many years to come. http://www.facebook.com/paolomojo http://www.twitter.com/paolomojo

Sydney DJ, Space Junk (http://www.soundcloud.com/spacejunkdj), is one of the most vibrant and passionate deep house DJs kicking around the scene. Along with his Mantra Collective crew, he's been responsible for some of the biggest parties over the past 6 months or so since the launch of this newly formed promoter-group. Space Junk's bio reads like a who's who of international DJs, having supported the likes of Hot Since 82, Audiojack, Butch, Paul Kalkbrenner & Oliver Koletzki. He is also a co-host of "Frequency", a radio show on Sydney's FBi 94.5fm (Friday nights from 1 – 3am). Add to this bio, two new residencies at a couple of the most prominent clubs in Sydney, Spice Cellar and Chinese Laundry, Space Junk has a bright future ahead of him. Coming up this weekend, is another Mantra Collective gig, this time at Tatler in Sydney's Darlinghurst district with an all-local headline affair. On New Year's Day last year, I was priveleged to play at Johan Khoury's Day Wash party. For those who don't know it, it is a wildly successful party run by Johan & his production team & is held at Chinese Laundry in Sydney. It is a day party (hence the name)which is both indoors & outside. There are at least 4 separate dance spaces with a variety of DJ's & musical styles. When Johan asked me to play, he wanted a camp, vocal, happy sound for the courtyard. I thought 'Hmmm! I can do that'. So here is Part 1 of the set I played. Part 2 to follow. Rod B. & Alvaro Garfunk bring you the Miami Underground MovementDJ UMEKUroš Umek is internationally acclaimed music producer from Slovenia, seducing the masses with his own music blend for more than a decade. Always on the look for new sounds and determined to challenge every existing cliché in music industry, he managed to define his own vision of vanguard techno. Sure, this would not happen without the support of his loyal peers who’ve joined him on the production platforms such as Recycled Loops, Consumer Recreation and Astrodisco, with which they defined “Slovenian techno sound and successfully invested it as an important driving force on the global club scene. The year 2007 marked the beginning of new chapter in Umek’s music career. After spending enormous amount of time and artistic energy bringing his characteristics sound to the whole new level, he presented new international music therapy called 1605 – Sixteenofive. No doubt this was a very risky move for such an established artist as DJ Umek. But it was the only way for him to stay on top of the game. And it seems he picked up the right decision at the crucial time: the response to his new vision of electronic dance music from his peers, critics, media and most importantly his fans is great and his productions are supported by some top dogs in the industry.Umek recent productions include highly acclaimed club releases such as Overtake & Command, Ricochet Effect, Another Matter Entirely and Faithful Nights, but it were MTV supported hit singles Posing as Me and Carbon Occasions that stirred the most media attention and crossed over to the daily radio stations. Umek’s releases were lately included on the premiere club compilations mixed by artists such as Sander Kleinenberg, Judge Jules, Eddie Halliwell, John Digweed, M.I.K.E. or Carl Cox. He was amongst the headliners of esteemed summer music festivals such as Primavera, Monegros or Dance Valley and he conquered the South America on the joint tour with Valentino Kanzyani and Marko Nastić once more. And this was only the introduction in the Umek’s year 2008, when he plans to finally present long expected new artist album and his own live band.intro01.
