It's a jam-packed episode where I'm joined by two absolute champions of the channel, Alex Harris and David Maguire, the driving force behind this standout industry event. Let's be honest – this one's a bit of a shameless plug. But for all the right reasons. The 2025 MSP Show isn't just another exhibition – it's quickly becoming the place where MSP business owners and their teams come together to get inspired, connect with new tech, and actually have a good time doing it. Whether you came along last year or this is your first time hearing about it, this episode breaks down exactly why you need to carve out two days in your diary to be there. We opened up the conversation reflecting on how the show first came about. David explained that, off the back of 30 years of running the Service Desk & IT Support Show, the team saw an opportunity. MSPs were showing up in droves, but the content and vendors weren't fully speaking their language. So rather than tweak the original format, they launched the MSP Show as a fresh, focused, vendor-neutral event tailored specifically for business owners in the managed services space. What started with 30 vendors and one theatre in 2024 has now doubled in size, with over 90 providers across both shows and two full seminar theatres hosting 24 sessions across the two days. Alex gave us a behind-the-scenes look at the planning, the thinking behind the content curation, and how every session has been shaped by real feedback from the MSP community. Topics cover everything from AI and cybersecurity to wellbeing, neurodiversity, vendor partnerships, and how to write proposals that win business. What's powerful here is that it's all geared towards helping MSPs build a better, stronger business – with no sales pitches allowed. The content is pure gold for business owners and leadership teams who want to step out of the day-to-day grind and start working on their business. We talked a lot about the vibe of the event – because it really matters. This isn't a crowded, pushy tech circus. It's open, welcoming and genuinely relaxed. That sense of space and calm made a huge difference last year and allowed people to actually have meaningful conversations with vendors and peers alike. For those bringing team members, it's also a brilliant way to get everyone out of the office, learning, and feeling part of the wider vision for growth. We had clients come last year who brought along key team members and they're still raving about the experience. Something else I absolutely loved from last year — and I'm glad it's back — is the networking drinks. And yes, it's free. Day one ends with a proper social, where you can unwind and build connections in a casual, no-pressure setting. This year, they're stepping it up with the new Wonder Years lounge – a nostalgic nod to the past with retro games, photo opportunities, and a cracking new food truck experience that honestly might be the best food I've had at Excel. Alex and David have also introduced some really clever tech upgrades this year, including a Bluetooth-enabled audio system where you can listen to talks through your own headset, meaning no more queuing for those seminar headphones and crystal-clear audio even at the back of a packed room. And of course, I'll be back on stage again this year kicking off Day Two with our most popular session, “MSP Growth Secrets: Three Keys to Faster Growth.” If you're serious about scaling your MSP and want to get the team aligned behind your goals, you're not going to want to miss that one. To sum it up – The MSP Show 2025 is free to attend, but the value you'll walk away with is priceless. Whether it's your next vendor relationship, a golden nugget from a speaker, or the motivation to take that next leap in your business – it's all waiting there for you. Don't just turn up and wander, come with purpose, plan your visit, and leave inspired. Ready to join us at the 2025 MSP Show? Don't miss your chance to connect, learn, and grow alongside hundreds of like-minded MSP business owners. It's free to attend, packed with value, and designed to help you build a business that works for you.

Today we are excited to have a returning guest, Brett Trembly, the founder, and CEO of Get Staffed Up. In this conversation, we talk about Brett's newest book, 24 Months to Freedom, and go through some of the chapters which he has laid out like a roadmap on the important positions in your law firm and how to know when and how to hire for them. As founder of Get Staffed Up and a lawyer himself, Brett knows the struggles that lawyers face in this process and I know you'll get a lot out of our conversation today. Enjoy! In this episode, Neil and Brett discuss:Bringing on a staffer to serve your law firm. How a virtual assistant can assist your law firm. Why you need to be doing consistent marketing. The secrets of growth as you bring on additional staffers. Key Takeaways:If you don't have an assistant, you are your assistant. Delegating will allow you to find time freedom that you couldn't do before. Your marketing doesn't need to be perfect - it just needs to be good and be consistent. Having a great system in place to convert clients, such as an intake coordinator, can present the right portrait and impression of your firm.Sourcing your staff from the same company will ensure you know that they are being trained consistently and know how to work together to best serve your clients. "You have to protect your time as an attorney, you have to get rid of it every 10 minutes that you do work, that a $10 an hour assistant shouldn't be doing, you're losing $50." — Brett TremblyGet in touch with Brett Trembly:Website: https://getstaffedup.com/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/Getstaffedup1 Twitter: https://twitter.com/btrembly Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/GetStaffedUp/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/getstaffedup LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/bretttrembly/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/getstaffedup/ Check out Brett's Book and other resources at: 24 Months to Freedom: How Modern Law Firms Use Smarter Staffing Solutions to Fast Track Their Way to Success - https://getstaffedup.com/lawentrepreneur/ To hear more from Brett, check out Episode 195 - Staffing Up Your Firm for Faster Growth - with Brett TremblyThank you to our sponsors!Ruby Receptionist - Virtual receptionist & live call services that will help you grow your office (and save money), one call at a time - to learn more, go to https://get.ruby.com/TLE or call 844.311.7829The Net Profit CFO - Ryan Kimler works with attorneys who want to enjoy

In this episode Sean Graham shares his thoughts on finding trusted partners who excel in areas when he admits he falls a bit short. B2B marketing approaches often leave money on the table, say Principal Analysts John Arnold and Lisa Gately. On this episode of What It Means, they introduce lifecycle revenue marketing, a holistic approach to capturing growth opportunities with new and existing customers.
This week I'm coming to you on a solo mission. Using re-sellers is not often discussed but is a highly valuable tool many small businesses are using. Seven benefits to using this strategy are: Access to Existing Contracts: Resellers often have existing contracts with the government, allowing small businesses to take advantage of those contracts and sell their products or services without having to go through the often lengthy and complex process of securing their own contract. Established Relationships: Resellers also have established relationships with government agencies, which can be beneficial for small businesses that may not have the same level of familiarity or experience working with the government. Lower Overhead Costs: By using a reseller, small businesses can potentially save money on overhead costs associated with selling to the government, such as marketing, sales, and administrative expenses. Reduced Risk: Resellers can help small businesses reduce their risk by taking on some of the responsibilities and liabilities associated with selling to the government. Increased Flexibility: Subcontracting through a reseller can give small businesses more flexibility in terms of the type of work they take on, as well as the timing and duration of their projects. Assistance with Compliance: Resellers can help small businesses navigate the often complex and confusing world of government regulations and compliance requirements. Potential for Growth: Finally, subcontracting through a reseller can help small businesses grow their business and increase their revenue by accessing new markets and opportunities that may have been previously out of reach. Overall, subcontracting with a reseller can be a smart move for small businesses looking to break into the government contracting space, and can help them achieve success and profitability in this highly competitive arena. If you want personalized assistance from my team and I to help you start selling to the US government, increase the number of contracts you are winning or optimize the contracts you currently have please reach out to us at: https://www.dodcontract.com/ If you have comments or would like to reach me personally you can do so at richard@richardchoward.com Connect with me on LinkedIn at: https://www.linkedin.com/in/rickychoward/

My guest on this week's Work in Progress podcast is Bárbara Gómez, Ph.D., the associate director of the Stanford Latino Entrepreneurship Initiative (SLEI). Dr. Gómez joins me to discuss the eighth annual State of Latino Entrepreneurship (SOLE) report released this morning. Gómez is one of the principal investigators of the new SLEI report which shows that Latino-owned businesses (LOBs) continue to outpace the growth rates of white-owned businesses (WOBs) – and U.S. businesses in general – in terms of number of businesses and revenue. "We continue to see this pattern. There is a continuous growth that Latino businesses have had in the past decades. We know that Latino business owners continue to strengthen the American economy, not only by increasing the total number of businesses that they start, but also by creating businesses that employ Americans," she explains. Gómez continues, "One of the biggest findings was that the number of Latino-owned businesses in America increased by 34% between 2007 and 2019, whereas the number of white-owned businesses in the same period of time decreased by 7 percentage points." There are now nearly 5 million Latino-owned businesses across the country, generating more than $800 billion in revenue. It's interesting to note that during the three years of the pandemic (2019-2022), "the median growth rate in revenue for LOBs was 25% and 9% for WOBs, and the median three-year compound annual growth rate for LOBs was 7% and 3% for WOBs," according to the SLEI research. Gómez says that while Latino entrepreneurs continue to grow, even thrive during unprecedented times such as COVID, they continue to face "systemic disparities that impact not only the growth of their businesses, but also the American economy. Among those challenges include unequal access to financing, as well as access to government and corporate contracts." Here is what the SLEI research finds. Latino-owned businesses seeking loans from national banks have stronger business metrics than white-owned businesses, yet have lower approval rates for loans over $50,000. Also, LOBs receive substantially smaller contracts that take longer to secure from corporations and governments than WOBs, as much as 12 months. "A year of loss, a year of uncertainty, a year of waiting that can impact not only the contract that you get, but your entire businesses as well," she explains. Dr. Gómez and I discuss more of the findings and some of the "whys" behind them. You can listen to the full podcast here or download it wherever you get your podcasts. He is also affectionately known as the Profit Engineer and is most known for creating something from nothing. His expertise is developing widely creative and profitable promotions that build brand loyalty and goodwill without being obnoxious or sales-y. In this episode, Nancy and Antonio discuss: Setting yourself apart More than getting a sale The Four Core Methodologies Align, map and partner Key Takeaways: Consider what your product or service's unique selling point would be. Think about what sets your company apart from others and what unique value you can bring to your clients. People don't like to feel like they're being manipulated. As they say, people don't like to be sold but they love to buy. Relationships and long-term partnerships are more important than just merely getting a sale. Remember the four A's: attraction, bringing in the right type of clients; activation, converting those clients into paying customers; ascension, taking them down to a path to get them to buy more things from you; and lastly, automation which is creating a system for the perpetuation of all that. Make sure whatever service you provide is going to really be a good fit for what they need. Create alignment from the very beginning, understand your client truly and be curious about their desires, wants, and needs. Map out how your product serves those needs and create a partnership. “When you understand human behavior from a foundational perspective, you can pretty much sell and market everything. Cause you understand their desires, wants, motivations - these are the things that create buying decisions.” - Antonio Thornton Get Antonio's FREE giveaway by clicking on this link: https://moneymouthmarketing.com/nancy Connect with Antonio Thornton: Twitter: https://twitter.com/moneymouth Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/moneymouthmarketingPinterest: http://pinterest.com/mmouthmarketing Website: https://moneymouthmarketing.com YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/MoneyMouthMarketing LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/antoniothornton/ | http://www.linkedin.com/company/2356846 Email: antonio@fearlessimpact.com Try Our Proven, 3-Step System, Guaranteeing Accountability and Transparency that Drives RESULTS by clicking on this link: https://oneofakindsales.com/call-center-in-a-box/ Click on this link to download a FREE digital copy of The Inside Sales Solution: https://form.jotform.com/212374882793164 Connect with Nancy Calabrese: Twitter: https://twitter.com/oneofakindsales Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/One-Of-A-Kind-Sales-304978633264832/ Website: https://oneofakindsales.com Phone: 908-879-2911 LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/ncalabrese/ Email: leads@oneofakindsales.com

In this session, originally recorded on April 22, 2021, we asked Marina Glogovac, President & CEO of CanadaHelps, to share five good ideas for demystifying digital transformation. With a career spanning nearly three decades in technology and media (including working in the magazine industry during the shift to the internet), Marina knows the challenges that come from forced disruptions. She helps listeners understand what digital transformation actually means, and how to think about and approach this seemingly overwhelming task. Five Good Ideas Digital transformation is not about technology. You need the right technology, and integration is important. You need a clearly defined vision and to address four areas: Internal productivity, donor and customer process, culture and roles, and new service and revenue models. Change must be resourced. Go digital or go dark. A sense of urgency and ongoing commitment to digital transformation is critical for future survival and success. Resources: CanadaHelps’ Whitepapers on Digital Fundraising. Whatever your budget or level, you can make podcasting work for you -Understand Your IncomeTherefore step number 1 is to make a clear goal of exactly what you want to do with your new podcast. By defining the purpose of your show and its format (how and where you are producing it etc) will help you create the foundations of the budget you need to create.TIP: Always remember to take into consideration whether this is your profession or a hobby – how much you initially input will differ if you see this having cash rewards or not!Determine your fixed costsNext on your to-do list is to identify all of your fixed costs necessary for running your show.Based on your planning around how you’re going to produce your show, you’ll need to do some research what options there are for your show’s needs and requirements. The things you need to take into consideration are items like your host platform, microphone.-One of the main fixed costs (your host platform) can be kept to a minimum, by choosing free or low-cost podcast hosting platforms such as: Free getting started plan options.TIP: Make sure you haven’t missed anything by taking a look through past bank statements and tick off everything in there. Identify your variable (and one-off expenses)Variable costs are those which are necessary for your business to continue functioning but change from month to month. And, if this is the beginning of your podcasting journey you’ll also need to include your one-off costs – money to cover your basic equipment: microphone and headset and also some $ to create some awesome cover art (we’ve written a guide to creating great cover art, here).Wondering how to identify your variable costs? Look at what you’ve spent on office supplies, marketing / promotional costs or replacing old equipment over the last 6 months and calculate an average outgoing cost. About to start your podcast? Try and predict what you might spend (we’ve written a blog on launching a podcast you might want to take a look at) and use this to structure your budget for the first few months, once you’re up and running you can cross-check to see if your prediction is in line with the reality!TIP: Variable and one-off costs are usually the fun ones so they’re the most important ones to keep in check in your budget!-Make a rainy day fundWe would also highly recommend incorporating to your budget a fixed amount that you put away each month as part of a contingency fund. Putting away a little bit of money on a regular basis will mean you never go into crisis when something unexpected comes up!TIP: An easy way to break down your money is the 50/30/20 method. Attributing 50% to your necessary items, 30% to the things you want and 20% to saving for the future and a rainy day!-Create your budget! Now’s the time for the fun, cr(cast)eating the budget! You can build it on paper, Excel or Google Sheets or try one of the many Apps out there.Hopefully, we’ve helped debunk the myth that starting a podcast isn’t achievable without stacks of money – whatever your budget there’s a way to do it and the big expenses can always be postponed till when your show has some traction and you start earning!https://blog.spreaker.com/5-steps-to-creating-a-podcast-budget/-Podcast Review of the Week: Out of the Shadows Series by Shane Waters - Clip is from Part 16 : Interview with the Archdiocese of Baltimore (Part 1) discussing clergy abuse - Play Audio Clip from Introducing the show episode guest ----- Then Here is a clip from the investigative questioninghttps://www.spreaker.com/show/out-of-the-shadows_1 -Featured Podcast Show Of The Week: Halli Casser-Jayne Show - A terrific Politics and Entertainment topics program - https://www.spreaker.com/show/the-halli-casser-jayne-show_1 -Listener Comment - Allan Tépper about last week’s show:That was a great and educational conversation between Rob and Francesco. Based on the trends in the research is listening growing faster over the past couple of years as we have seen more new content get created?I have read you saying that Podcasting needs more - high quality “Crap” content to grow faster - can you explain that?I read your article on Spotify, Music and Podcasting - The meteor is coming - to destroy the current open podcasting earth?Let’s talk about Spotify and the recent purchase of Gimlet and Anchor for some large dollars - those dollars signal a few things:Podcast Industry potential and revenue growth or cost savings to music streaming platforms?Increased audience growth, better tech and better and more content investmentWhy do you think Spotify is aggressively moving towards Podcasts - is about cost savings fewer music royalty payments as Podcast listening goes up or is that the whole story (Original Video Series? With Gimlet buy)Tom you think “Music” in podcasting is the key to “FASTER Growth” it seems - more revenue for music artists and podcasters plus music platforms. These coming music podcasts will likely be only on these music streaming platforms, not in the open podcasting world - thus will these really be podcasts? The music licence owners will not like downloads and this content will be streaming only.Given my understanding of how music podcasts will work - it is not really a threat to podcasting as we know it today as we are talking about new music shows on the music streaming platforms that are not really podcasts. Key is the “Download”? Women in Podcasting - the gender gap in podcasting is closing - Why do you think this is happening --- Listening and Hosting/creating - 3% growth a year, seems slow, but steady https://www.edisonresearch.com/women-podcast-listeners-closing-the-listening-gender-gap/Spreaker/Voxnest Links:https://Voxnest.comhttp://blog.spreaker.comhttp://SpreakerLiveShow.comhttps://Spreaker.comEmail: rob at voxnest.comSend Questions and Comments to:Twitter: http://twitter.com/spreaker using #SpreakerLiveTwitter: http://twitter.com/VoxNestTwitter: http://twitter.com/robgreenleeTwitter: http://twitter.com/alexeum Tech Support: support at spreaker.com

The Correction is Over and the Bear Market is Resuming As I have been speaking about in my last couple of podcasts, it looks like the period of relative calm in the markets is over and the next leg down has begun. So the correction is also over - not the downward move - that is not the correction - this is the bear market. The upward move was the correction. It was the first correction in this young bear market. Technically it is not a bear market yet because we're not down 20% but that is only a matter of time. So I think the correction is over and the bear market is resuming, the primary trend being down. Dow Transports Big Losers In fact, the U.S. stock market was down for its fifth consecutive day, although today was the biggest decline. The Dow ended down 424 points. We managed to close just above 24,000 at 24,024. But we were well below. At the lows of the day we were down about 600 points. Percentage wise we were down 1.74%. The NASDAQ, about the same, down 1.7%. At the lows it was down close to 150 points on the NASDAQ. Percentage wise, the Dow transports were the big losers, down 221 points - 2.08%. Earnings Don't Matter Now, one of the things that investors have been counting on to support stock prices and, in fact, drive them higher, were earnings. Everybody's been saying, "Earnings are going to be higher!" Now what have I been saying on my podcasts, over the last several months? I've been saying that it doesn't matter, because all these great earnings, if they materialize, are already baked into the cake. They are already discounted into the price of the stocks. So in other words, they don't matter. It's "buy the rumor, sell the fact". Double Whammy of Faster Growth and Lower Taxes If everybody knows that earnings are going to be good, well, they've priced in those expectations into the market. Why do you think the market has gone up so much since Trump was elected President? It was on the anticipation of all these earnings that were going to come from a combination of faster growth and lower taxes. In fact, the lower taxes are why we were going to get the growth, so it was going to be a double whammy. Well, all that was priced into the market.
Listen in for another great episode, this time with Raviv Turner, CEO at CaliberMind. In addition to being the Co-Founder & CEO of CaliberMind, Raviv is also an angel investor and mentor at Techstars and a regular speaker at marketing & AI events. We're talking about how he sees a disconnect between Demand (buyers) & Ops (users) of data & analytics platform. For a full transcript, go to the Heinz Marketing blog starting 4/30/18. Some highlights: Your data strategy is your B2B growth strategy (quick overview of the paper) Without a clear and concise data-driven marketing strategy, B2B marketers lack the ability to effectively acquire, organize, analyze and translate customer information into actionable insights. But what does an effective B2B data-driven marketing strategy look like? Understanding what needs to be accomplished is the first step in developing an effective data-driven marketing strategy. For B2B data-driven marketers, a top priority is basing more decisions on data analysis. Most Critical Challenges? Integrating data across platforms and enriching data quality and completeness are the most critical challenges to achieving data-driven marketing success Marketing data is a marketing problem! Not devs, not IT - 100% marketing But data is hard, data is not sexy - so marketing is pushing it out - over 90% of B2B marketers outsourcing all or part of data tasks (Ascend2) But high performing marketers are doing the opposite, they license data and analytics tools and train their team to bring data capabilities in house Most of the reasons why marketing can't prove value and impact are data related, yet we prefer to outsource this - lead qualification, ICP score, account scoring, lead routing are all data problems before they are marketing problems. To be successful with ABM you need - Data, Account Planning, Content, Execution and Measurement - yes ABM is a data challenge not a media challenge.. No wonder that marketing and sales ops are spending more than 80% of their time in spreadsheet hell on marketing data wrangling, exporting/ importing, vlookups in Excel what not There is a disconnect between the C/VPs and Ops inside the marketing org - Demand looks at pipeline sourced/ influenced/ ops created - but Ops don't give a hoot about it, they care about operational efficiency, workflow automation, the data integrity - they want to get out of spreadsheet, but guess what? - most ops don't have the budget to solve this problem, the biggest budget is demand and that budget mostly goes to programs not to data and analytics - but guess what? Without data and analytics you can't measure programs, you can't multi-touch attribution, you can't track engagement and orchestrate demand between channels..so that's changing, according to Gartner for the first time in 2018 analytics is the biggest spend in Marketing, more than social, more than content - why? Because without data and analytic we are going to see marketers continue to lose their jobs and go home

On this episode, two experts from The Conference Board attack one of the central paradoxes of today’s global economy: Why has accelerating digital innovation yet to put economic growth in high gear? Chief Economist Bart van Ark looks to history; since the original Industrial Revolution, all new technologies have taken decades to be fully harnessed by businesses. Do mobile, always-on broadband, and the cloud simply need more time to pay off? Doug Chia, Executive Director of the Governance Center, presents a more troubling possibility: that American business leaders in the 21st century face a set of short-term incentives that is dragging out and actively impeding the usual deployment timeline. Indeed, CEOs may see the tantalizing promise of new technologies—and why investing heavily now in areas like artificial intelligence, big data, and green tech could bolster their organizations for decades to come. But they also face a host of more immediate contenders for their attention, including quarterly earnings targets, activist hedge funds, and high-frequency trading—all with the potential to drive them off-course in managing long-term but ultimately winning investments. Are structural factors embedded in American capitalism undermining the innovation necessary for its survival?
