Car prices are heating up, but your strategy can stay cool. We sat down with Patrick Olsen of Carfax to cut through the noise and map a smarter path to your next vehicle—whether you're shopping new to beat tariff-driven pressure or hunting for a reliable used car with real value. We dig into timing the market, reading shifting inventory, and setting practical guardrails that protect your budget without giving up tech, safety, or comfort. If you're weighing used options, we break down why sedans are the overlooked bargains: late-model Civics, Accords, Camrys, and Malibus that deliver strong mpg and long-haul reliability. We talk about lease-return realities, the must-know red flags on history reports, and the truth about extended warranties versus building your own repair fund. For parents and grads, we call out the safety features that matter most—blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and automatic emergency braking—and why they deliver day-to-day dividends.Curious about used EVs? We get real on costs, home charging, and how to think about range so an affordable 150–200 mile car can be your low-cost daily driver. We compare brand trends—Tesla, Hyundai, Kia, Ford—and what's shifting in resale. Plus, we look at rental-fleet buys, separating maintenance positives from driver-abuse concerns so you can make a clear-eyed choice. To round it out, we fire up a detailed review of the 2024 Ford Mustang GT: design updates, tech quirks, driving feel, performance, and pricing that explains why the GT remains a crowd favorite.Want to browse smarter? We point to Carfax research tools and free reports on listings so you can verify history, surface hidden risks, and focus on the best candidates for your needs. Last Wednesday morning, I was scrolling through social media, when a post caught my eye, then ear. Mrs. Rebecca Schroeder of Thomasville posted a video with a caption that read “He's off to school this morning officially a licensed driver.” That is a fun, exciting moment for any driver regardless of the vehicle, but her son, Brayden, was driving a strong, beautiful machine. It was a gorgeous white Ford Mustang GT 5.0 with a black spoiler and red brake calipers. I'm more of a meme reader than video watcher, but I had to go back to her post and watch...Article Link
Not too long ago, my husband and I were running errands in Thomasville. Our last stop was Tractor Supply. He stayed in the car while I ran in the store. As I walked out, I saw that my car's twin had joined him in the parking lot. It always excites me to see “fun vehicles,” especially V8 Mustangs. Both cars were late model black Ford Mustang GT 5.0s with the performance package. An easy way to identify these cars is by the stock high spoiler. The other driver parked perfectly beside me, making a Kodak moment, for sure. I was...Article Link

This week on America on the Road, co-host Chris Teague kicks things off behind the wheel of the 2025 Ford Mustang GT. Still powered by its iconic 5.0-liter Coyote V8, the latest Mustang GT delivers up to 486 horsepower when equipped with the available active-valve performance exhaust. Buyers can choose between a classic 6-speed manual or a smooth 10-speed automatic, both of which channel power to the rear wheels for a traditional muscle car feel. The design remains bold and unmistakably Mustang, while the interior has taken a high-tech leap with a new 13.2-inch touchscreen, customizable digital gauges, and improved connectivity. But does its unique blend of heritage, raw performance, and new tech work in 2025? Chris and Jack will offer their opinions. The episode of America on the Road, hosted by Jack Nerad and co-hosted by Chris Teague, is stuffed with the latest car reviews, industry news, and interviews from across the automotive world. The compelling stories range from an electric supercar concept to a shipwreck full of Chinese EVs to a legal battle over EV charging infrastructure. Plus, we welcome a special guest for part one of a two-part interview you won't want to miss. In our second road test, Jack Nerad gets his hands on the all-new 2025 Genesis GV80 Coupe 3.5T E-SC MHEV, a bold, tech-heavy entry into the luxury SUV-coupe segment. With a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6, electric supercharger, and 48-volt mild-hybrid setup, the classy coupe delivers smooth and responsive power to all four wheels. Its sloped roofline, 22-inch wheels, and a richly appointed interior featuring Nappa leather, a 27-inch OLED display, and premium audio by Bang & Olufsen, combine to give the GV80 Coupe exceptional appeal inside and out. It's big on comfort, big on features, and although its fuel economy isn't class-leading, the overall package offers an appealing alternative to pricier European rivals. But is it resonating with luxury buyers the way we think it should? In the news this week, Mercedes-AMG has revealed the Concept AMG GT XX, a jaw-dropping electric performance prototype previewing the future of the brand. Featuring three compact axial flux motors and more than 1,341 horsepower, this concept can reach 223 mph and offers ultra-fast charging with next-generation battery cooling. A cargo ship carrying over 3,000 vehicles, including hundreds of EVs and hybrids, has sunk off Alaska following a fire that burned for nearly three weeks. Investigators are still probing whether the fire started in the area where electric vehicles were stored, highlighting growing concerns about EV safety during ocean transport, not to mention in everyday driving. Tesla finds itself in legal hot water in France over its Full Self-Driving system. French regulators accuse the automaker of misleading marketing, improper prepayment handling, and misrepresenting the vehicle's autonomous capabilities, warning Tesla it has until October to correct the issues or face substantial daily fines. And as our final news story, a federal judge has temporarily blocked the Trump administration's freeze on $5 billion in EV charger infrastructure funding. The ruling allows 14 states to move forward with their clean transportation projects, challenging what one judge views as an unlawful and abrupt policy shift. Our special guest this week is Tim Seward, chief designer at ONYX Motor Bikes. In the first part of this two-part conversation that will continue next week, Tim shares how he helped turn a backyard project into a breakout success story in electric mobility. His approach to design and innovation offers a fresh take on how small companies can disrupt big industries. And in our listener question segment, Lemmuel from Salt Lake City asks, “My check engine light is on. What's the first thing I should check?” We offer practical, no-nonsense advice on diagnosing the issue before it becomes something more serious. So there's plenty of show this week.
The Unnamed Automotive Podcast jumps right into summer with a fun review of the 2025 Ford Mustang GT Convertible. A droptop with a V8? You got it! Benjamin details the ins and outs of this nearly-500-hp machine, and Sami questions him on the progress that Ford has made with its pony car over the past few decades. Then Sami recaps his thoughts on the 2025 BMW X3 M50, which boasts tons of power and a funky approach to interior design. It has Sami rethinking his entire thought process revolving the German automaker, and the hosts talk more about what that means. Then the guys give a short primer for what to expect in the next few episodes. Thanks for listening!

Fifteen years ago, a guy from Maryland took a camcorder and a bone-stock Ford Mustang GT to Japan and filmed a series of YouTube videos on drifting and local car culture. Back home in the States, a handful of people—including INTC producer Mike Perlman, then 15 years old—watched those videos and asked, What the hell is going on here? By that point, Vaughn Gittin, Jr. was already an accomplished professional drifter, an off-road racer, and a self-proclaimed “professional fun-haver.” Fast forward a decade and a half, and Gittin's hands-on approach has helped drifting be taken seriously in America—and he's done so much more. For INTC's 50th episode, Gittin joins us to talk about the nuance and difficulty of drifting, building a career in motorsport, and how our very own Ross Bentley changed his life! In episode 97 of the BaT Podcast, Alex, Zac, and Randy talk about the car- and BaT-related things that make them happy. Alternating between tongue-in-cheek and heartfelt, the wide-ranging discussion covers the merits of the first-gen Panamera; the curious state of the modern movie industry; a healthy dose of Batman (note the solo cap); discovering the I-5 rally stage out of Grapevine, California; defending the tall gearing of the five-speed NSX; a heretofore unknown appreciation of the donk (that's with a "k," folks, don't get too excited); turbo cars masquerading as N/A cars; revisiting prewar daily drivers; the various ways in which a vintage BMW might set itself alight; the joy of knowing a reliable mechanic for one's unreliable car; track time in a haggard Ferrari; a little back-patting; the struggles of Chrysler, timeline debatable; the upcoming Jaguar brand redesign; T-top desires; a hard, if unscientific, look at modern car enthusiasm; an appeal for updates on what people are doing with their BaT purchases; some thanks thrown to your humble podcast servant; a controversial wheel choice; and some Thanksgiving motherly love.

A new pony car has arrived on the scene just as all of its competitors are departing. Sami tells us all about his time in the 2024 Ford Mustang, starting with the EcoBoost model and its auto-only setup and then the real-deal GT with its 5.0-liter V8 engine. While that's enough for most, the Mustang seems loaded gimmicky features like drift brake, remote rev, line-lock and retro-themed digital dashes. Is it even trying at this point as all of its rivals wave from the sidelines, or is this the best Mustang yet? Then Benjamin has his time in the all-show, no-go version of the Alfa Romeo Giulia Estrema Edizione. Looking like the 505-hp Quadrifoglio, but packing a more modest powertrain, Ben flips between loving and hating this Italian sport sedan, and for good reason. Be sure to hear his explanation before subscribing to the podcast, and maybe even connecting with us over email or social media. Thanks for listening!
This week we discuss what we discovered when Host Jack Nerad was among the first journalists to drive the seventh-generation Ford Mustang. While the “all-new” 2024 Mustang offers buyers the choice of a turbocharged four-cylinder engine or a naturally aspirated V8, it's hard not to view the V8 version as "the real Mustang." The turbofour does offer a reasonable dose of horsepower — 315 to be exact — but the 5.0-liter V8 in the 2024 Mustang GT delivers 480 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque. Certainly more power = more fun. The added ommph isn't the only reason to prefer the Mustang GT over the Mustang EcoBoost either. In terms of overtall drivability and response, the V-8-engined GT just feels better than the four-cylinder version. Steering, braking, and even throttle tip-in are smoother and better sorted-out. Of course, the GT's standard six-speed manual transmission also moves the needle in the V8's direction. With automatic rev-matching, the manual trans gives the driver another satisfying way to interact with the new car. We'll tell you about others in this week's road test segment. As Nerad tested the Mustang GT, Co-Host Chris Teague got to put the 2023 Jeep Compass through its paces. Over the past three seasons, the Compass has got what amounts to nearly a full makeover. First, Jeep revamped the compact SUV's interior; then, they gave it a new, much more satisfying turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Teague will tell us how he likes the changes in this episode. In the news segment, we'll take a long look at the limited-edition Mopar Dodge Challenger and Charger models that were just announced. Dodge won't make many of them, but they could be an excellent bargain for the 200 or so carbuyers who snap them before the showrooms are bare. Also in the news, we'll have the details on the heatwave battering many sections of the country this summer. Not only is the heat causing unprecedented levels of sweating, deodorant purchase, and news media whining, but it is also playing havoc with the range of electric cars. Turns out EVs like extremely hot weather even less than you and I do. We'll give you the details of a comprehensive study documenting that. In this week's True Crime Files - Automotive Edition, a Stellantis engineer has pleaded guilty in a diesel emissions case here in the United States. You won't believe the sentence he's getting. We wouldn't mind taking his place, and we'll tell you why. Do you wonder whether you should buy a synthetic or a conventional motor oil? Want to know what the differences are? We're here to help. Our special guest this week is Sean Nguyen, Lubricant Science and Technology Specialist at Pennzoil. He has the answers to all the questions you have about motor oil, plus he introduces us to the most advanced formulation in the Pennzoil portfolio of products yet: Pennzoil Ultra Platinum, now available at your local Advance Auto Parts or AdvanceAutoParts.com. An all-new Nissan Frontier pickup truck is big news. The popular midsize pickup has not received a total makeover — until now. We at America on the Road are among the first journalists to drive and review the vehicle. And at the same time Host Jack Nerad had the chance for a lengthy sit-down interview with Nissan's Randy Dale, the chief product planner for the Frontier. In the car review segment Co-Host Chris Teague subjected the Toyota Avalon to his Down East style of vehicle testing. It turns out that Toyota is dropping the Avalon model, so this might be the last road test to be heard on America on the Road. Also in the road test segment, Jack Nerad gives his opinions on the Ford Mustang GT. Is it the best-buy in the extensive Mustang model range? Or does the recently introduced Mach 1 model deserve that honor? Jack and Chris will answer those questions and more. In the news, research firm AutoPacific has announced its findings in the annual New Vehicle Satisfaction Survey of 89,000 new car and light truck owners. Now in its 25th year, the VSAs identify the most satisfying vehicles on the market as rated by the consumer. We'll tell you what the most satisfying vehicle is and which brands did best in their survey. Just a hint: there were several surprises. See what we said about the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach 1

This week we share our first impressions of the 2021 Acura TLX sports sedan, and discuss whether it's size and performance gives it an edge over competitors like the BMW 3 and 5 Series (or even a Toyota Camry?!) We also provide options for exchanging out the all-season tires that come on a new car for something better suited to cold climates, like all-weather or winter tires. Our experts give advice on why a Ford Mustang GT might not be the best car for a new driver, and share some RWD alternatives; why bright DLRs (daytime running lights) might keep someone from turning on their headlights at night; and give a primer on everything you wanted to know about motor oil (but were afraid to ask!) ----------------------------------- Have a question for our experts? Classic Car Week, the all-encompassing presentation on the Monterey Peninsula of all things automotive, including vintage cars, revitalizes itself yearly. Many auction and collection names remain the same. But newcomers, including Heather and Rob Gardner, help the collective refresh. The Gardners, who live in Carmel Valley, don't host a rally, auction or concours. But they could. A Mercedes-Benz limousine is among the vintage cars available for rent from Monterey Touring Vehicles. Image courtesy of Robbie McCay. Instead, the couple will experience their first year of the nearly two-week gathering as owners of Monterey Touring Vehicles (montereytouringvehicles.com). Rob, a physician, and Heather, a research scientist, recently decided their fleet of 36 vintage cars is best served when driven. Heather Gardner is our guest on Episode 48 of The Weekly Driver Podcast. Co-host Bruce Aldrich and I discuss how Monterey Touring Vehicles began as well as the vintage cars the couple rents. The Gardner's collection is varied — muscle cars to kit cars and classic convertibles to an 81-year-old Mercedes limousine. The business has a new 10,000-square-foot location in Monterey so potential customers can view the fleet. Interest is expected to be strong during Classic Car Week, Aug. 17-26. And while Monterey Touring Rentals isn't officially hosting an event, it's a sponsor of the Prancing Ponies Car Show (Aug. 22) and Legends of Auto Gala Dinner (Aug. 23). A 1965 Ford Mustang GT and 1965 Ford Shelby Cobra replica have been the most requested rentals. In addition to its availability on this website, the Weekly Driver Podcast is also available on iTunes, Stitcher and Podtail All episodes of our podcasts are also archived on this website, TheWeeklyDriver.com.
