Chuck Wright is an American bassist, songwriter, singer, music producer, and live event producer, best known as a long-time member of the multi-platinum Heavy Metal band Quiet Riot. He originally worked with Quiet Riot in 1982, playing bass on the tracks "Metal Health (Bang Your Head)" and "Don't Wanna Let You Go," as well as singing background vocals on all of the tracks from the 1983 multi-platinum album Metal Health. The album spawned the first-ever #1 Metal album on Billboards Hot 100 and changed the fabric of the music as it was known then. ​ Wright's career in mainstream rock first took off when he joined Giuffria in 1984. Their debut album produced the hit single, "Call to the Heart" (Hot 100 #15) in 1985. After sold-out arena tours with Deep Purple and Foreigner, Wright left Giuffria to re-join Quiet Riot in 1986, to record and compose songs for their QRIII release and supporting world tour. His reputation as one of the most sought-after bass players has landed him working alongside music icons Alice Cooper, Slash, Gene Simmons, Gregg Allman, Carmine Appice, Ronnie Montrose, John Waite, and Pat Travers. Wright has appeared on over 100 worldwide record releases, playing bass and producing albums of various styles, including Ambient Trance, Reggae, Rap, Country, and of course Rock. He was also involved in seven film scores, including Kull the Conqueror, where he was joined by Guns N' Roses drummer Matt Sorum and the London Philharmonic Orchestra. Over the years, Wright also worked with House Of Lords, Bad Moon Rising, Blackthorne, Christian Tolle Project, Doro, Impellitteri, Kuni, MSG, Magdalen, Murderer's Row, Pata, Stephen Pearcy of Ratt, Adler's Appetite, Love/Hate, Ken Tamplin, and Shane Gibson from Korn and many others. Wright is the creator of Ultimate Jam Night, a long-running bi-monthly live music show established in January 2015 at the Whisky A Go-Go in West Hollywood. Fue ideado por los músicos Jimmy Bain (Rainbow y Dio), y Vivian Campbell (Dio, Whitesnake y Def Leppard),al darse cuenta de que la participación de las estrellas del metal en este ámbito era escasa. Extendieron la idea a Ronnie James Dio, y juntos compusieron la canción insignia de este proyecto: "Stars".El proyecto incluía miembros de bandas como Dio, Yngwie Malmsteen, Quiet Riot, Giuffria, Iron Maiden, Mötley Crüe, Twisted Sister, Queensrÿche,​ Blue Öyster Cult, Dokken, Night Ranger, Judas Priest, W.A.S.P., Journey, Rough Cutt, Y&T, Vanilla Fudge y la participación de la banda parodia Spinal Tap del falso documental o mockumentary "This is Spinal Tap" (1984). Bassist and composer Chuck Wright may not have a name you instantly recognize, but you've heard his music before. Chuck was in Quiet Riot and played and sang on some of that band's biggest hits and albums. He was also in the band Giuffria, which had a major hit single in the mid-80s called "Call to the Heart." He's played with everyone from Alice Cooper to Gregg Allman to John Waite to Eddie Money, as well as members of Guns N'Roses, Dream Theater, KISS, Skid Row, and Mr. Big. Now Chuck has a new solo project called Chuck Wright's Sheltering Sky, with a debut album scheduled for early 2022 and a new single out right now. "Army of Me" is a Bjork cover, which is unexpected, but it's great. Chuck spoke with me about the single, the album, the 30+ guest musicians he enlisted, his time in Quiet Riot and Giuffria, and so much more. Dennis Churchill Dries and his bandmates in White Sister emerged from the early 80's Los Angeles rock scene alongside the likes of Motley Crue, Ratt, Metallica and 45 Grave.  They flirted with success on EMI Records, had songs featured in the films Fright Night, Halloween 5 and Thrashin', and later signed to Atlantic Records as Tattoo Rodeo.  And then they disappeared.  While they never achieved the commercial success of their peers, they became a legend in the melodic rock genre.  This is their story, straight from the heart.

La agrupación nace después de que Ronnie abandonara Black Sabbath, llevándose consigo al baterista de la banda, Vinny Appice, quien había remplazado a Bill Ward durante la gira del disco Heaven and Hell (1980). A estos dos componentes se suman Vivian Campbell a la guitarra y Jimmy Bain, ex-Rainbow al igual que Dio, al bajo.Con algunas ideas claras en torno a la dirección que debía tener su disco debut, Ronnie se aboca a la búsqueda de un guitarrista con un sonido más moderno y metalero. Tras varias audiciones a guitarristas americanos que no logran convencerlo, viaja a Londres, donde pide recomendaciones a su viejo camarada de Rainbow, el bajista Jimmy Bain. Jimmy lo invita entonces a algunos conciertos del circuito londinense, donde descubren a dos jóvenes promesas de las seis cuerdas: John Sykes y Vivian Campbell. Ronnie opta por contratar al segundo, un talentoso veinteañero norirlandés. Junto al mismo Bain, que es invitado a unirse al proyecto, queda configurada la formación clásica de la banda. En mayo de 1983 DIO editó su primer disco, Holy Diver, en el cual Ronnie cantaba y tocaba el teclado. Para evitar tener al vocalista tras el teclado en los conciertos, la banda reclutó a Claude Schnell, ex Hughes-Thrall. Holy Diver se convierte rápidamente en un disco de culto en el cada vez más rentable mercado del heavy metal ochentero, aportando un sonido pesado pero armónico, solos intensos y la voz inconfundible de Ronnie James Dio, quien por ese tiempo se gana el bien merecido apodo de "The Voice of Metal". Por esa época, Ronnie populariza el famoso "Malocchio" (símbolo en el que se levantan solamente los dedos índice y meñique) que el público metalero suele utilizar en los conciertos de Hard rock. Ronnie reclama la autoría del signo, pues dice haberlo patentado en su paso por Rainbow en los 70's. Al respecto, asegura que los "cuernos" resumen el concepto "Long Live Rock and Roll".El quinteto lanza a continuación The Last in Line el 2 de julio de 1984, seguido por Sacred Heart el 15 de agosto de 1985. Varias canciones fueron grabadas durante la gira de dicho álbum, las cuales fueron lanzadas junto con la canción de estudio Time To Burn en el mini LP Intermission. Ese mismo año Ronnie organiza la versión rockera/metalera de "We are the World", el proyecto "Hear n' Aid", para reunir fondos para mitigar el hambre en África. El 21 de julio de 1987 apareció su cuarto disco, Dream Evil. Después de éste, la banda completa fue reorganizada introduciendo, junto a otros, al Rowan Robertson, de sólo 19 años. La nueva banda lanzó un nuevo disco, Lock up the Wolves. Después de este disco, Ronnie se reunió con sus antiguos compañeros de Black Sabbath. Dicha reunión duró poco, produciéndose un solo disco, tras el cual Ronnie James Dio reunió a la banda Dio. En este momento, el guitarrista Tracy G se convirtió en miembro. Durante esta nueva era, la banda produjo los discos Strange Highways, Angry Machines e Inferno - Last in Live, este último en vivo.Goldy volvió en el año 2000 para el octavo trabajo de estudio, Mágica, pero volvió a dejar la agrupación antes del noveno, Killing the Dragon, que fue lanzado en el 2002 a través de Spitfire Records. Dio ha indicado que no ha tenido mucho que ver con este trabajo, ya que había abandonado la firma que lo lanzó. Dio realizó una gira por Sudamérica, Japón, Europa y Rusia en 2005. Su gira de otoño fue titulada An Evening With Dio. La grabación de estas actuaciones se lanzó en un DVD y un doble CD llamado Holy Diver Live en abril del 2006, que tiene entre sus méritos, el retorno (momentáneo) a las filas de DIO del excelente guitarrista de Whitesnake Doug Aldrich, y el fichaje del histórico bajista Rudy Sarzo, ex Ozzy Osbourne, Quiet Riot y Whitesnake, un músico de excepción, pero también un brillante showman sobre el escenario. De cara a 2007, Dio volvió a juntarse con sus antiguos compañeros de Black Sabbath, Tony Iommi (guitarra), Geezer Butler (bajo) y Vinny Appice (batería), para grabar tres nuevas canciones que integrarán la compilación sabática The Dio Years, y para protagonizar una nueva gira mundial bajo el nombre de "Heaven and Hell". February 1985 — “The Firm” by The Firm If you're forming a rock group for success in the 1980s, you can't go wrong with Paul Rodgers (Bad Company) on lead and Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin) on guitar. Throw in Tony Franklin on bass and Chris Slade on drums, and you have the supergroup known as The Firm. Their self-titled debut album was propelled to the top of the charts on the strength of their hit “Radioactive” and “Satisfaction Guaranteed.” Chris Slade suggested the name of the group, initially as a joke based partially on the fact that Rodgers’ previous group was “Bad Company,” and everyone gravitated to it immediately. The Firm only put out two albums before the members went their separate ways. Join us as we explore this soulful supergroup. “Radioactive” This was the big commercial success on the album reaching number 28 in the U.S. “Closer” You can hear Jimmy Page's influence on this track. "The main aim is to play some rock and roll and have some fun." was a quote from Page about the formation of the group. “Money Can't Buy ” This track has a heavy Paul Rodgers influence. You really get a good sense of Rodgers’ vocal strength here. Tony Franklin was famous for playing the fretless bass. “Satisfaction Guaranteed” This song got some great airplay back in the day. It has a slow anthem quality to it, combining both elements of Led Zeppelin and Bad Company. ENTERTAINMENT TRACK: “Lunatic Fringe” - performed by Red Rider This track is off the soundtrack from the movie “Vision Quest.” A soundtrack is LOADED with talent of the day. STAFF PICKS: “How Soon is Now” by The Smiths The Smiths were a staple of alternative rock in the mid-'80s. Bruce shares their most popular song, but it didn't go very high in the charts because it had been released previously as a B-side. The reverb is distinctive and the lyrics are melancholy. “Relax” by Frankie Goes to Hollywood Wayne steps away from his typical HARD ROCK and presents this song that is easy to identify with 1985, although it was controversial due to its lyric content. It was banned in the UK at the time. Frankie say...Relax! “California Girls” by David Lee Roth One of Brian’s favorite videos — Roth shows off his entertainment chops on the video to this Beach Boys cover. This solo effort may have added fuel to the fire that eventually resulted in the departure of David Lee Roth from Van Halen. “Call to the Heart” by Giuffria Rob shares one of the precursors to the hair bands of the late '80s. Gregg Giuffria had a Steve Perry-esque sound. The album peaked at #26 on the album charts. LAUGH TRACK: “I Drink Alone” by George Thorogood and the Destroyers We close out on this podcast with some amazing lyrics....“Every morning just before breakfast, I don't want no coffee or tea.
