Since then, his stories have often explored how our relationship with the natural world is intertwined with our spiritual journeys—as individuals, as communities, and as a collective humanity. Lance is also an avid astronomy and space-travel nut, and he found the germ of his story “Five Days Until Sunset” at the intersection of pondering the spiritual search that never ends and wondering what life might be like on a tidally locked, “eyeball” planet. The story also asks what it means to live in harmony with a world that is ready to kill you, and what it means to have faith in the face of inconvenient truths.

In a world obsessed with winning, it may seem counterintuitive to suggest that losing and how to lose can be a pathway to true victory. It's not fun to lose. For example, in most every card or board game, when the pieces are set, my inner competitiveness starts revealing itself, strategizing the best avenue to win. This fact did not sit well with my father-in-law when Greg and I were first married and we all decided to play the board game Risk. The key to winning the game is to take control over all the continents of the world. It's a game of strategy, but also luck. My new father-in-law was a brilliant man and had played the game many times. It was my first time and I proceeded to ask a lot of questions, eventually immersing myself in the game with my competitive streak revealing itself. The fact that I then won the game over everyone is still a memory I hold dear as it wasn't because anyone let me win. Winning was fun, but the response was less than ideal from the man who was now part of my immediate family. I think that was the last time I played the game with my father in law as I think it could have been more problematic as the years progressed if we had played again. Even though winning is fun and losing is not, upon closer examination, it becomes evident that losing carries valuable lessons that can shape our character, fuel personal growth, and ultimately lead us to triumph. In this article, we delve into the concept of how to lose to really win and explore the principles and strategies that can help us harness the power of defeat to propel us towards success. “Be careful what you wish for” says our episode 118 guest. Dr. David Colbert's New York based dermatology practice grew like wildfire within two years. Today, he is in demand on both coasts, and operates a roving clinic in between. This is a doctor who innovated and shattered the mold for what we came to know as the typical medical and cosmetic dermatologist. On the podcast, David explains how he first did so when he rejected the idea that the kind of practice he was to build needed to look a certain way, and be located on Madison Avenue. Explaining that things get really big, really fast in New York if you hit the vibe or the zeitgeist of something…Dr David Colbert did just that. His thoughtful approach to his work, keen connection to his patients and clients, forward-thinking spirit, and artistic authenticity, led him to tap into all the things that people wanted, needed, and then some; becoming one of the most sought after in his field. From the models that need to get ready for the runway, to the actors that are being filmed for the screen, and everyone in between, he has trademarked treatments, products, and a one-of-a-kind touch that has shattered and continues to shatter the industry standard, and he shares stories tied to those moments here. We discuss his famed Triad Facial and the music legend who sparked its development and success; we get into product development, and his delicious Illumino Face Oil. He explains the polarity in client needs and wants that comes with working on both coasts, his aesthetic, both personal and in his work, the innovations he's interested in, and correcting cosmetic work and the importance of what he describes as “not shopping in a grocery store when you're hungry”. A longtime proponent of how critical food and nutrition are for supporting the skin, he discusses why he wrote his High School Reunion Diet book, and how lifestyle including stress and drinking water play a bigger part than most people realize. We get into his early life including why Baryshnikov made him pack up his plan for studying ballet at Joffrey, and time spent at Chanel in Paris. We dissect the way he eats and lives, the lessons he's learned along the way, his biggest learning as an entrepreneur, and being a reluctant businessman and an avid outdoorsman. And then there's art: David explains how he's artistic in his work, and also his love of art and art-collecting. And then there's charity: we talk about life-changing time spent in Haiti, and more. Soulful and artistic, low-key and high-end all at once, you'll hear firsthand about the discreet way, the restrained and refined touch, that he is known for, and what sets apart his New York Dermatology Group from all the rest. Episode 21:44 Fiber… Insulin Resistance… and How To Lose 100lbs Without Dieting Two weeks ago we had Coach Sam Shelton on for an episode about nutrition. The response was overwhelming! People loved his “no-nonsense” approach to health and eating right. They also loved that he wasn't “selling” anything… just sharing some of the incredible knowledge he has gained after spending hour upon hour studying health and nutrition. Today, Coach is back to share more. Specifically, he talks to us about: 1) The importance of fiber (and why he eats over 100 grams of it per day!) 2) The dangers associated with Insulin Resistance (it is involved with EVERY major disease) 3) How his Mom lost over 100 lbs THIS year. Fiber. Insulin Resistance. Weight Loss. These are the KEYS to living a happy and healthy life. And, they are explained beautifully on this episode. Enjoy! ———————- Want to learn more? Episode 21:25 - How Anedra Brown lost 99 pounds: Diet, Exercise… and Dealing with Emotional Trauma Back at the beginning of this year (2021) we recorded an episode with Anedra Brown called “How To Lose 67 Pounds Without Even Trying.” It was very well received. Since that time, Anedra has continued to lose weight… still without trying. To date, she has lost a total of 99 pounds. Her secret? She focuses solely on Getting Healthy! That is, she does NOT try to lose weight. Instead, she focuses her efforts on Getting Healthy! As a result, the healthier she gets, the more weight she loses. This “program” has worked really well for her… until recently. Seems like her health improvements, and weight loss, have stalled. This puzzled Anedra as she knew she still had a long way to go on her health journey. She also knew that she was doing everything right, such as: Avoiding bad foods while eating healthy ones, taking whole-food supplements, exercising, and taking time each day to “SEE” herself healthy. However, despite her best efforts, nothing seemed to help. her progress had come to a halt. Then, one day, it hit her. The weight she was at now was the same weight she was at in 2014. Why is that significant? Because in 2014 Anedra experienced an emotional trauma. An emotional trauma that she responded to by putting on weight. An emotional trauma that she had never fully dealt with. An emotional trauma that wouldn't let her continue on her path to better health. Anedra realized all of this and decided to do something about it. Specifically, she decided to DEAL with the emotional trauma she experienced seven years ago. She did… and her body responded by dropping 9 pounds in two days! Yes… nine pounds in two days. Her health progress is no longer stalled. Best of all, she's not done yet. Learn more about Anedra and her story by giving this episode a good listen. She talks about the emotional trauma and how she dealt with it. Her story will teach you, inspire you… and give you some ideas on how to advance on your health journey. ———————- Want to go deeper into this episode, and all future episodes? Episode 21-1 - How To Lose 67 Pounds… Without Even Trying   Believe it or not, for many people, the key to losing weight is to NOT try.   Sounds crazy, right?   It’s not.    In fact, it makes a lot of sense… once you understand the secret.   The secret followed by this week’s special guest Anedra Brown.   You see, Anedra never set out to lose weight.   Instead, she simply wanted to “Get Healthy.”   To do what she had to do to get rid of the joint pain and stiffness that caused her to hurt all over… leaving her a prisoner in her own body, unable to enjoy even the simplest activities of life.   This desire to “Get Healthy” led her to make changes in her lifestyle.   Physical changes.   Nutritional changes.   Emotional changes.   Changes that have helped her “Get Healthy.”   And, therein lies the secret.   Remember, Anedra never set out to lose weight.   Instead, her goal was to “Get Healthy” so her joint pain would disappear.   She did… and her joint pain disappeared.   In addition, as a “side-effect”, she dropped 67 pounds.   Yes, 67pounds!!!   NOT by trying to lose weight… but by trying to “Get Healthy.”   Best of all, she’s not done.   Her journey to her best health is still going on… and will, for quite some time.   A journey ANYONE can take.   (Even you!)   Listen to this episode to hear Anedra’s inspiring story.   Then share it with a friend :)

I wrote an email to my email list last week and it had the title, "Success Leaves Clues" and it was one of the most positively responded to emails that I have written and so I thought, why not give a little more context and detail to that email by creating a podcast around the same topic.I have been helping people change their habits, improve their health and live better lives for over 15 years and while I certainly don't have all of the answers, I have noticed a common theme amongst the clients that achieve their goals compared to those who don't.I have spent in excess of 20,000 hours face to face with clients (both online and in person at my clinic) and I would like to share with you the top 5 traits or actions that my most successful clients exhibit.Success comes in many forms and can range from finding balance in life to spend more time with family to running an internationally successful company to losing weight or focusing on running a marathon. Those clients I have seen find most success and have achieved their goals, don't always have all 5 traits and I am not suggesting that if you tick off all 5 of these that it is a recipe for success.HOWEVER, success leaves clues and if you have been struggling to find success on your fat loss journey, within your career or life in general and can't put a yes next to some or all of the points I mention in this podcast, then it might be time to take a look at what you are doing on a day to day basis and maybe look to make a change.I hope you enjoy this weeks podcast and as always I hope it brings value to you and your life.I hope you enjoy the episode and if you did and haven't already, please go and give the podcast a quick review and 5 star rating as it would mean the world to me and then DON'T FORGET TO SUBSCRIBE to make sure you never miss an episode!!!Join the tribe and become a NO BREAKFAST CLUB member today and receive daily workouts sent directly to your email, discounts on products and services and MUCH more planned in the no too distant future. He starts the show by sharing some of the background behind his RailsConf talk “How To Lose 50 Milion Records in 5 Minutes” and the various mistakes that were made that lead to such a dramatic loss. The loss of these records lead the company to refactor and rewrite the entire app in MongoDB. Jon talks about the decision to use Mongo. One of the main points of his talk was that their mistake was discovered because they were trying to figure out wy Elastic Search was getting slow. He counsels listeners to avoid working your way into a poor status quo and accepting it rather than doing something to fix it. If this happens, it can lead to the sudden failure of your app. In the talk, he mentions ‘landmines’, which are things in your app you don’t want to touch and you don’t deal with it until later. In his company, they left these landmines alone and then did something they thought was unrelated, and everything blew up. He stresses the importance of looking for landmines in the parts of your app that you’re uncomfortable with. He talks about the importance of doing code reviews, and to not keep doing things the same way they’ve always been done if there is a better way to do things. He also believes that there should not be a stigma about talking about mistakes and the importance of learning from each other. He talks about specific things that his company has done to change and improve. Jon Druse is a developer from Tennessee and has been using Rails for 15 years. Mark this down as the oddest time this duo has recorded yet. Cade and Grace are coming to you live during their first ever morning recording of a Saturation. Disappointed someone forgot to bring the mimosas, but nonetheless excited for another week full of content. Kicking things off with Fast Facts, they touch on Billie Eilish's Rolling Stone Cover, a How To Lose a Guy in 10 days TV reboot, 13 Reasons Why Season 3, Prince Harry's kid limit, Lori Loughlin's daughters being kicked out of their sorority and more. Next, things heat up during Entertainment News. Katy Perry loses in Court, A$AP Rocky is back on US soil and that's just a starting point. Plus, Cade and Grace are feeling senti after recent VS Fashion Show cancellation rumors. Love is in the Air, this week is a Bachelorette edition. All the tea from the season finale, reactions to press interviews following the shocking finale, Hannah and Tyler C. appear to finally have that drink (lasting to the early morning), Gigi Hadid and Tyler C. then went on not one, but two dates since the show wrapped last week, and the most shocking of all... Grace basically gives Gigi permission to move in on her man. Moving forward, they bring back the Kardashian Korrespondence section, where they are able to really gush over their favorite family. Jordy and Tristan are not getting any time of day, but there are some updates to share. Oh, and Kylie is celebrating her 22nd bday in the most lavish way. Not to mention all the little things that really aren't that little, but in the grand scheme of things, we still love. You know we then did Song of the Week and Saved on IG! Plus, we had a very fun and hard lunch room related Question of the Week. We could elaborate more, but idk if anyone reads this and the struggle for sleep is real. After a rocky week, it's time for you to get to listening ASAP! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/saturation/message

How To Lose 10lbs in 7 weeks, and transform your body?  As entrepreneurs, as business owners, it can be hard to find the time to look after yourself. We all know intellectually that ‘Health is Wealth' but sometimes it can be hard to find the time and motivation to really enhance your health. For the last seven weeks, Rob has conducted a social experiment in accountability with a group of 21 people. All of which have lost an average of 10lbs. From making sure there is the right amount of money involved to ensure that there is a healthy balance between competition and support, Rob talks through his learnings from the process. Listen here to see how accountability can enhance your health, and your business.    Key Takeaways  I went to Dubai in December and I ended up 8kg over my ideal weight. I felt like I was letting myself down. You can get really busy with running your business, and ill health can creep up on you over time. I decided I wanted to do a health challenge with other people, and it was in December so I thought other people would be interested. 19 people gave my mom £500 for this challenge. Then we set the aim of body transformation.  The next seven weeks were some of the craziest in my life. We all lost weight, on average 10 kilos. There were lots of reasons why it was successful. A lot of people said this transformed their life.  £500 was a good number. It wasn't a large enough amount of month that we were going to kill ourselves for it but it was a good motivator. The commitment of money is a good one. The amount of money created good accountability. Several people wanted to get the money back. Everyone said that they would have paid £500 to get fitter, stronger and healthier. It's much more painful to lose £500 than to gain it.   Initially, we said that one person wins all the money, which didn't bring out the best in everyone. Then we split up the pot into the top three, with the first prize winning £5,000. The amounts of money were enough to be a motivator but not enough that people would cheat.  The competitive element was key. This wasn't to do with the money, and some people just want to be the winner. I just wanted to show people how much I had changed, showing your peers how successful you are.   The pain of backing out. Because we were all doing check-ins and sharing photos. None of us could leave because it was so public to leave. It would have been too embarrassing and shameful to leave. Shame is not an ideal emotion but it's still a motivator.  We did weekly check-ins. It can be difficult to stay focused and accountable. Once a week at the same time, we shared our photos and metrics. I never was able to go for a long period of time without being close to check-in. We all went a bit crazy several weeks in. We all supported each other though to balance out the competitiveness in the group.  The timeframe was important. Some people said that seven weeks was too short. The deadline acting like a really key motivator. We are doing a 12-week one now, which might be too long, but there will be a deadline that approaches them soon enough.    Best Moments  ‘Health is wealth.'  ‘I know about accountability, and put this into this fitness challenge.'  ‘We wanted to dramatically transform our bodies.'  ‘Everyone in that group lost vast amounts of week.'  ‘The commitment of money is a good one.'  ‘The £500 wasn't the biggest driver to win, but we didn't want to lose it.'  ‘I want to prove to people that I am the best student., and prove myself.'  ‘It easy when people don't notice that you aren't actioning things.'  ‘There was a shame of not succeeding.'  ‘I had a 12oz fillet steak once I had finished the seven-week challenge.'  ‘At one point we all thought about quitting.'  ‘Deadline focused our minds.'  ‘Your energy and vitality is your capacity to be successful in your business.'  ‘Model these elements in your business.'  ‘You can lie to yourself, but you can't lie to other people in a group.'  ‘I wanted to steer the direction away, which over a longer period of time can be easier.'    VALUABLE RESOURCES  The Disruptive Entrepreneur Podcast iTunes | Stitcher  Books Written by Rob Moore:https://robmoore.com/books/  ABOUT THE HOST  Rob Moore is an author of 9 business books, 5 UK bestsellers, holds 3 world records for public speaking, entrepreneur, property investor and property educator. Society is at a turning point, warns Professor Shoshana Zuboff. Democracy and liberty are under threat as capitalism and the digital revolution combine forces. She tells Andrew Marr how new technologies are not only mining our minds for data, but radically changing them in the process. As Facebook celebrates its 15th birthday she examines what happens when a few companies have unprecedented power and little democratic oversight. Although behavioural data is constantly being abstracted by tech companies, John Thornhill, Innovations Editor at the Financial Times, questions whether they have yet worked out how to use it effectively to manipulate people. And he argues that the technological revolution has brought many innovations which have benefitted society. The award-winning writer Ece Temelkuran has warned readers about rising authoritarianism in her native Turkey. In her new book, How To Lose a Country, she widens that warning to the rest of the world. She argues that right-wing populism and nationalism do not appear already fully-formed in government - but creep insidiously in the shadows, unchallenged and underestimated until too late.
