Check Out: My Integrated Life Micro-Doc - http://bit.ly/2Z5hSvM -- As a 3x successful business-owner and founder, my biggest fears about having kids were: I would be an absent father I would accidentally raise entitled kids Those two thoughts made me sweat. I was terrified. I was good at business... but what about being a good father? What if I messed it up? I thought maybe my obsessive drive meant I shouldn’t ever have children. Kids aren’t something you can quit if it goes wrong. So when my wife Renée fell pregnant, it lit a burning need in me to get good at the one thing I felt afraid of. I NEEDED to be an authentic and present father for my children. I had to get good at this. I hired the best mentors, coaches and parenting experts, I took the classes, read the books… I trained. Hard. And I’m not perfect. Many of my lessons weren’t taught to me from a book, they were learned from mistakes. But today I’d like to share a new video with the most valuable lessons I can offer you. Here is how to raise successful kids to be winners. My kids are the biggest blessing that’s ever happened to me. I wasn’t expecting it… I was so afraid about not giving them the right life that I never stopped to think about how much love and light they would bring into mine When Renée got pregnant, we were living in San Francisco and I had just closed a round of $1.6M in funding for my company Clarity. 3 months after the birth of our first son we found out we were having another. Max and Noah are 11 months apart, and I LOVE my boys with all my heart. That’s why this video is so important to me. I’m proud to say I overcame my fears and I am 100% a family man AND an entrepreneur at the same time. But the only way I got there was by truly living the lessons I discovered and shared in today’s video. Check it out and drop a comment with your best parenting advice. We all could use it. -- Dan Martell is a serial entrepreneur, an investor in 40+ startups like Intercom, Udemy, and Unbounce and the creator of SaaS Academy, helping over 500 B2B SaaS founders scale faster. Now we can. From sportsrants- Amazon's Twitch most high profile teams, Twitch Rivals, have announced an official partnership with Samsung Electronics America on a one-year mobile gaming deal for a series of online competitions.According to Deadline, the Samsung Galaxy will exclusively host regular mobile gaming challenges and events. Their new partnership agreement was formalized during one of Twitch Rivals live twitch streams during CES. Twitch views the partnership will enable users to “fully engage in the unparalleled chat and interactivity that feeds the Twitch community” Lou Garate, global head of sponsorship sales at Twitch said. “As livestreaming and esports continue to grow exponentially, we look forward to working with Samsung to help the engaged and dedicated gaming audience access their Twitch Rivals content wherever and whenever they want it.”Oasis - This seems like an obvious step considering the popularity of mobile gaming. What are your thoughts on competitive candy crush? Minecraft Twitch Streamer Loses All His Followers at Once In our first strange piece of news, A streamer did something so offensive that he lost all his followers overnight. His offense! Streaming on twitch. From game rantNathan is a regular streamer on Twitch who mostly streams Minecraft. Over the course of two years, Nathan built up a respectable following streaming Minecraft that, while not equaling any of the titans of Twitch, is still a powerful thing to accomplish. Yesterday, on January 13, 2021, almost all of Nathan's Twitch followers vanished in the course of a single night. It should come as no surprise that Minecraft is a popular game to stream, since a streamer can take it in any direction. Dedication to a single project, exploration, or just fun activities for when a streamer or their chat is bored. All of these helped Nathan get to around 21,000 followers throughout the last two years. Then, one morning, Nathan awoke to discover that number had dropped to seven. The reason for this sudden follower loss is still unknown, but hopefully Twitch Support is looking into it. This is one of the more extreme manifestations of Twitch's technical problems, but certainly not the only one. Symphonic - This almost seems worst than being botted. What should they do in a situation like this?Twitch is sending out personalized 2020 recap emails starting todayMany have been receiving these personalized recaps from twitch about their twitch habits. Although there have been many reports of users only getting one of the several recaps. From dot esportsTwitch is in the process of sending out 2020 Twitch Recap emails today, full of details on what channels you watched, how long you watched them, what channels you subscribed to, and even what your favorite emote was.The email also includes your most-watched categories of the year, so you can know just how much time you spent in the Just Chatting section or flipping back and forth between multiple Among Us streams. If you haven't gotten a recap email yet, be patient. Twitch said they'll be rolling out throughout the day.Rogue - did you have any issue getting your recap? Tech/Game/Social Media News4. Mario Kart is the most stress-inducing video game: Study Lastly, They must have been playing on rainbow road when they did this study. Mario kart has been named the most stress inducing video game.According to a study commissioned by BonusFinder, one of Nintendo's signature games, Mario Kart, was found to be the most stressful to play. The commissioned researchers worked with 14 competitive gamers to play 16 of the most popular and challenging games out there. While playing, the gamers' heart rates were also measured. While playing a 30-minute Mario Kart session, players experienced elevated heart rates by an average of 21 beats per minute (BPM), which is a 32.8% increase over resting rate. While Mario Kart generated the highest amount of stress among players, Dark Souls III (an action and role-playing game) contained moments that produced the largest heart rake spikes at 127 BPM during a boss fight with character Darkeater Midir.Viral multiplayer game Fall Guys produced the second-most heart rate spikes at 125 BPM, particularly when players competed in the final rounds and were close to winning. On the opposite end, popular games such as Animal Crossing, The Sims and Skyrim lowered heart rates below their resting rates, according to the study.Symphonic - what would you guess is the most stressful game for you?5. Instagram's Testing an Option to Unhide Total Like Counts on Posts Cyber bullying is back. Just kidding but like counts on posts are making a comeback. MaybeFrom social media today- According to a new discovery by app researcher Alessandro Paluzzi, Instagram's currently testing a new option which would enable users to hide or unhide like counts on their posts. That would enable users to display their total like counts for each post once again, which Instagram removed for most users back in 2019 as part of an initiative to support audience wellbeing. The theory, at the time, was that by removing like counts on posts, that would reduce competition over vanity metrics, which would in-turn lessen social comparison, and its associated negative impacts. No data has been released to show how effective this was.Oasis - Do you think this is a positive change? 6. PewDiePie reveals why he's taking another break from YouTube As far as bad omens go this one couldn't be much worse. Much like at the beginning of 2020 Pewdiepie has announced he will be going on a content hiatus. From DexertoFans will have to go without his content again in 2021, as he announced on January 8 that he is taking another leave of absence from making videos. When will he back?PewDiePie made the announcement on January 8 in a community post on his channel. “I FORGOT TO MENTION A FEW THINGS! I'm taking some time off to chill, epic,” the entertainer wrote at the beginning of his update.Fans of YouTuber shouldn't be too surprised with his second break as Kjellberg told his community on numerous occasions that he planned on taking a second vacation in 2021. “I feel like it's fair. Any other job you get holidays and I don't do that. And this year has been pretty crazy. It's good for my mental health,” he explained in June.Fans will no doubt severely miss him. In 2020, his popular r/Pewdiepiesubmissions subreddit hilariously turned to chaos and made hilarious jokes about his absence from YouTube. If nothing else, we can look forward to the memes.Rogue - what will we do without PEWDS? Entertainment News7. Clerks 3 Update: Kevin Smith Finishes First Draft He wasn't even supposed to be here today but he got work done any way. Kevin Smith has announced he is done the first draft of clerks 3.From the pieceIn a Facebook post published on Thursday, writer/director/pop culture enthusiast Kevin Smith revealed that he has "just finished" the first draft of Clerks 3. He also shared that he started writing on December 28, and that this is technically the second version of the film he's written, adding that he's "now very happy we never made" the previous version from six years ago.Smith also shares that while his own mortality was very much in mind for the script, he promises "this script to Clerks 3 makes me laugh out loud." He also credited the realities of living in quarantine and overall "the real world lately" were a major catalyst for Smith to hold still, sit down, and bang out a draft--noting that "the writing doesn't begin when you start tapping the keys: I've been stirring this stew in my brain pan for a while now."No release date for the film has yet been set, but Smith indicates he wants to "spend some of 2021… in New Jersey where it all began" Symph - What do you think about smith choosing to hold off on his original script?8. The Office Showrunner Says Revival is Now More Likely with Peacock Does your life need a little hopium in it? Well here is something to get your hopes up. The Office Showrunner Says Revival is Now More Likely with PeacockFrom geek feedWith the show coming to NBC's streaming service, Peacock, showrunner Greg Daniels has implied that a revival is now more likely.“I think it's probably more likely now the show's on Peacock, but no plans right now certainly. People are more open to it now, it seems. The issue is, what is left to be said about the characters. There's been some talk of maybe a Friends-style reunion kind of thing. I don't know. It's still kind of vague.”When asked what a reunion could be about, Daniels said that maybe they could just shoot something in the vein of a ‘lost episode' and just shoot it like it was still 2010. With a lot of The Office characters having moved on from Dunder Mifflin by the finale, it wouldn't make sense for all of them to still be together 10 years later.Oasis - what do you think of this strategy if they do decide to bring the show back?9. Tom Cruise Reportedly Buys Robots to Enforce COVID Safety on Film Set What can you say about this next story other than I welcome our robot overlords After he was recorded shouting at film set employees for breaking COVID-19 restrictions, Tom Cruise has reportedly purchased two robots designed to patrol the set of Mission Impossible 7 when it resumes film next week, The Sun reports. The robots, which can reportedly administer on-the-spot COVID-19 tests, were purchased by Cruise. It's unclear what kind of robots they are, but The Sun cites a source who describes them as “really sophisticated and rather intimidating. It's like the Terminator only not as violent.”Cruise isn't the only person employing COVID-19 testing robots in Hollywood. CBS has reportedly expressed interest in renting or purchasing lab-certified disinfection bots used in more than 500 hospitals worldwide.Rogue - Should the police employ these sort of robots or should we allow private Karens to buy them?BOLD PREDICTIONS Plug your stuff.Zazzaboo plug the site, Pod etc Don't forget to check out the patreon. Thanks and we will see you next week!★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★
SUPPORT ME ON PATREON WATCH MUSIC is not a GENRE VIDEOS and MORE A few episodes ago, I talked about the musical coming of age – i.e. that point in your life when you start to consciously decide what music is “yours”, not your parents' or siblings' or peers' or whatever the culture tells you it should be. Though I do think it happens to almost 100% of everyone, it's not a rule. But if it were, like any rule, it's the exceptions that prove it. This here song by Chic is one of those exceptions. I was almost 10 when “Le Freak” was released. And though by then I'd already gotten into the Beatles and Sean Cassidy and other pop of the day (especially songs my dad played in his live gigs) and Grease and Saturday Night Fever, among many other things, for some reason I remember this song having way more immediate impact on me. It was the first 45 single I bought with my own money, at K-Mart. I didn't just want it, I NEEDED it. The spare yet compelling and never boring production. The positivity. The call to throw off all the pressure and just FREAK OUT. The infinite funkiness. It's never left me. Part of the proof of that is that I bought this song TWICE. First, the 45 in 1978 (as discussed in Week 141), and then the 12” single in 1986 – when I was heavily into DJing. I couldn't imagine a dance set that didn't include this. And with all the tremendous changes in production, style & taste in those eight years, it shows the genius and perfect-ness of this song that it still hit home. Staccato funk has been a part of my repertoire for decades. Here's an example that meshes funk & pop & rock & grunge: NICK - “Your Sister” (from the album The Metrogrande Sessions) Do you like this song? Do you know who Nile Rogers is? Are you into funk at all? What song do you remember being the first one you HAD to own? Discuss dammit! --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/nick-dematteo/support

Get INTUIT with Gila- a podcast about Intuitive Eating and Personal Growth.
In today's episode of Get Intuit with Gila, I wanted, NO, I NEEDED to share with you how I am feeling towards Chanukah. I know that for many of you, Chanukah can be overwhelming. You may be excited about Chanukah in theory, but when you think about all the fried food, you start getting anxious and overwhelmed. I get it. I was once there. I strongly believe that our Holiday's should be enjoyed and enhanced with food. Diet culture has sort of stolen that from us. Diet culture screams at us to "watch ourselves" and "make sure your donut isn't fried." I mean who in the heck wants to eat a baked donut?? Anyways, the point is is that I totally understand how scary a Holiday can be . I just want to point out how sad that is. How unbelievably unfair that is. How diet culture has sort of stolen so much from us and we don't have to continue living like this. I hope this episode resonates with you. Please let me know how you feel about this episode. All feedback is welcome! Have a beautiful day and beautiful Chanukah! To see more episodes like this and read the full blog on today's episode, please visit my website www.gilaglassberg.com. After reviewing over 600 guitars in my career, these 7 dreadnoughts are some of the best guitars I've ever played. In this video, I'll go over each of these guitars and why they stood out after playing hundreds of other incredible guitars. Since my guitarsenal, or guitar collection, is so large, I've narrowed down this list to just my dreadnought guitars. You'll be hearing about my dobros and small-body guitars later this year! In addition to hearing about my guitarsenal, you'll get a chance to see a Heartbreaker of the Month: the guitar that Heartbreaker Guitars in Las Vegas has picked out for us to showcase! Also, you'll get some advice from Jeremy Sheppard , a guitar hunter who is here to help you find the guitar that works for you! Last but not least, I'll feature Dogwood Tales, an acoustic duo from Virginia. Alright, without further ado, let's dive into my list of the 7 dreadnoughts I bought after reviewing hundreds of other awesome guitars! #1: Santa Cruz Guitar Company Vintage Southerner This is the most different of all the dreadnoughts in my collection because it's a shorter scale. For that very reason, I tend to favor the Santa Cruz Vintage Southerner for fingerpicking. Lightly built with a spruce top and mahogany back and sides, this guitar really is a great accompaniment instrument. #2: Bourgeois Country Boy Dreadnought. This particular Bourgeois Country Boy is an absolute bluegrass cannon. If you want a guitar that can stand out in the mix when your flatpicking through fill after fill, this is your guitar. But, this guitar isn't just a standard Bourgeois Country Boy. This guitar was originally owned by Courtney Hartman and used when she was in the band @Della Mae . #3: Martin D-41 Special Indian Rosewood back and sides...Sitka spruce top...I mean, this guitar is a classic combination of class and power that I can't get enough of. Additionally, the forward-shifted bracing helps this guitar really open up and resonate at another level. But here's the fun part: this guitar was owned by my dad after I sold it to him while I was working at the Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago. #4: Taylor 717 Grand Pacific Builders Edition @Taylor Guitars has built some incredible guitars, and I've been lucky enough to have them send me this model for review. After I reviewed this guitar, I knew I needed to add it to my guitarsenal because of its remarkable laser-like projection. The V-class bracing and the torrefied Sitka spruce top definitely help give this guitar an unforgettable sound. #5: Taylor 517 Grand Pacific Builders Edition This Taylor was actually sent alongside the 717 I mentioned previously. As I kept this specific guitar around the studio for the review, I started playing it more and more. I was captivated by the mahogany back and sides that set this guitar apart from the 717 and any other guitar in my guitarsenal — and I liked the visual look of a sunburst guitar! #6: Thompson DCMA With an Adirondack spruce top, Cuban mahogany back and sides, this guitar really, truly, sings. After discussing Thompson Guitars with a few different friends of mine, I decided that I NEEDED to have one of these guitars. This guitar has tons of horsepower and clarity. #7: Martin HD-35 The last dreadnought in my guitarsenal, this guitar feels like a trusty old companion. This was the first "real" guitar I ever purchased. This guitar has been with me since I had my first gig, and I truly love it for its warm, woody tone. ★ Request your invite to Tony's Acoustic Challenge today: https://tonypolecastro.com/al-request-invite/?ref=INVITE&src=AL ★ All show notes and links: https://acousticlife.tv/at149/ ★ Get the show: https://tonypolecastro.com/get-acoustic-tuesday
But first, (no) coffee. I used to have 4 cups of coffee a day. I used to think I NEEDED it. Even still, I'd find my mind racing in a vicious cycle of "can't sit still" and "so tired but I can't sleep." I had the pleasure of quarantining with functional health coach Ashlyn Showalter for 44 days. She told me about how giving up coffee helped to heal her health issues. In this episode, Ashlyn talks about our parasympathetic (rest) state and our sympathetic (fight or flight) state and why it is so important to design a life that puts us in our parasympathetic. It's our rest and recovery mode and by lowering our stress hormones, our body is able to tend to and repair other ailments that it normally wouldn't when our adrenals are constantly firing. Ashlyn got me off coffee and I can honestly say that I feel more relaxed, focused, and in tune with my body's needs way more. We forget how everything we do and consume is interconnected and with the past few months being an absolute global sh*t show, we need to do what we can to put our body in a more relaxed state.Of course, everybody is different and if you know that you're committed to your Cup O' Joe , you can find other ways to get into your parasympathetic state and achieve homeostasis. For me, that looks like: -morning journaling, meditations-daily walks (also thanks to Ashlyn)-baths-yoga-hiking and turning off my phone.Listen to the full episode for Ashlyn's amazing insights and advice on this topic and be sure to follow her on instagram for more health tips and tricks at @theashlyn show.

I have to be honest, even me, someone who loves entrepreneurs, had mixed feelings when I saw founders capitalizing on COVID in the early days. For example, I saw someone pivot to start selling hand sanitizer. I thought it was a slimey move until I NEEDED hand sanitizer. It made me realize that these people who were filling in the gaps where the big companies fell short were really doing us a service. Well that’s what today’s guest did as early as February. Robby Berthume is the founder of Berthume & Co, which sells hard-to-find items to deal with the COVID-19 crisis including face masks, hand sanitizer, PPE, and social distancing decals. I remember the exact moment, I decided I was going to build an email list. It was September 20th 2019, I was trying to log into my Instagram Account. "Your Account Has Been Compromised" popped up on the screen instead. My account had gotten hacked. I realized in that moment, 5 years into my business, 175,000+ Followers on my social media accounts, I realized I could lose it all in an instant. I had built my business on borrowed ground. I don't own Facebook. I don't own Instagram. I don't own any of the social media account I had worked so hard to build my business on. It could be taken away over night. I NEEDED to build an Email List, an Email List that I would own. I knew exactly who could teach me how to do it, my mentor and List Builder Expert, Amy Porterfield. EP 34: How to Receive more LOVE, abundance, and Success with EASE. Coming from a high achiever, go go go getter, that never things she did enough no matter what… I talk about how to start receiving and allowing for everything to start coming in easier. I recorded this on a day that I NEEDED a break and I hardly worked and I had more inspiration, rest, and more payments, and money came in that I didn’t even predict happening. Things can actually be EASIER when you aren’t always pushing, pushing, pushing. When you allow yourself to rest and take breaks when needed you actually save time, energy, and get more done in a faster time when you allow yourself to rest. It’s all about balance and if you are always doing you aren’t allowing for the success to come back to you. Listen to this episode for guidance and steps on how to get more into your feminine and receiving energy. I recorded this episode during the full moon and had so much support, love, and MONEY come in today from getting into my feminine energy and allowing things to work out. I also talk about how I'm dealing with going with a breakup differently and in a healthier way than ever before. I’d love to hear your thoughts on this episode or what resinated with you. Share this episode and tag me online, I’d love to hear your thoughts and let me know if you have any questions. I love to talk to you. Real Talk? My soul is very heavy. I had to push this prayer out because I NEEDED to get to Him. I believe it is just as important to go to God in prayer, when you don't know what to pray, but you KNOW you need to be in His presence! That's what this episode is.Let us pray.

He has that great song "Turtles All the Way Down", all about psilocybin, DMT, and reptile aliens from "Metamodern Sounds in Country Music". Then he released an great cover of Nirvana's "In Bloom", from "A Sailor's Guide to Earth". These are not bro-country moves. I watched it. Now, I was fresh off of Fantastic Fest, so I was used to seeing some great visuals. Then the night before I had seen Roger Waters new "Us + Them" convert film. If anybody ever wondered what Pink Floyd would look like in 2020, this is it! A bit on the political side, but that is Roger Waters. But more great visuals, of course! It's Friday night, I catch Guns 'N Roses on their Not In This Lifetime Tour, with a reunion lineup for the last several years, the 17th annual Austin City Limits (ACL) music festival held in Zilker Park which is held on two consecutive three-day weekends. Sympathy for the devil that we speak of... Simpson was chosen as the opening act for several shows during GnR's "Not in this Lifetime" tour in the summer of 2017. But I get home and watch "Sound & Fury" and was completely blown away! Not what you would typically expect from a country artist. It is like a Pink Floyd movie, but with a Samurai. This was something extraordinary! Here is Make Art Not Friends, my favorite song on the album. I read some reviews about the album, many of them are not favorable. Many of them point to the comparisons with ZZ Top's "Eliminator" album. Sure. But this song here, it's like The Cars , Ric Ocasek recently deceased. It's like a marriage of "Just what I Needed" and let the "Good Times Roll". And if you do like this, check out Shooter Jenning's Hierophant "Black Ribbons" album from 2009. A dystopian rock opera concept companion to "Sound & Fury". It too surfs the radio dial and genre. This has now quickly and easily become my favorite album of the year. "The most important country record since Red Headed Stranger." - Matt Comer And just announced today, an arena tour for Sturgill Simpson! He's coming to the Erwin Center on March 28, 2020. Along with fellow Kentucky singer/songwriter Tyler Childers, whom Sturgill produced his last 2 albums. Tyler is great, too! I caught him this Summer at Robert Earl Keen's 4th on the River in Kerrville. He really brings out the rowdy crowd! And I, along with my friends, may have somehow been mistaken for him and his band afterwards at a hotel pool... Are you sure Hank done it this way? I don't know, but Hank lead his own way. And so did Waylon and so many others. The ones that we still talk about to this day. And Sturgill he is on his own path, too. And him doing an arena rock show, WOW! I mean seriously, I've seen the setlist... --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/tiny-curations-deep-dives/message
After five months of procrastinating, I am finally starting this podcast. I'm no longer going to wait until everything is "perfect".... perfect timing, perfect content, perfect circumstances.... because, let's face it, nothing is ever "perfect" for a perfectionist. I am Jericha Dethlefs and this podcast is going to be a step by step documentation of the birth of a new brand, course, business, podcast, and book... all projects I am working on as we speak. The main goal- To create a seven figure income in one year from home. Before, I would let myself be paralyzed by overwhelm with all of the things I thought that I NEEDED to do NOW. I now realize that the only thing I NEED to do NOW is get started. So here I am, starting... progress, not perfection. I will also have the honor of being able to interview other amazing business women and have them share their stories of entrepreneurship and how they have created their own way in this world of business. I hope that you enjoy these episodes and that you are able to take away practical advice and actionable steps to help YOU along your journey through entrepreneurship, business, and life.
Had a message on my heart today that I NEEDED to share. No time for distractions and that's period. The only person in the way of you getting to where you want to be is YOU. God is rooting & supporting you and all he's asking for is for you to MAKE A MOVE. So do it, NOW. Love you forever, Jas

Where Are They Now? Anna Woods (First appearance - Episode 2) is back! An interview with the amazing Anna Woods, founder of SheStrength. As mentioned in the Episode, the Importance of Core Stability, called Dynamic Neuromuscular Stability, - Anna learned it through rehabbing her own shoulder with Dr Jared Shoemaker, InMotion Spine Muscle Joint —www.inmotionsmj.com Her story: "I am a wife and mom of 3. We have 2 girls and a boy. We adopted my son, who rocks an extra chromosome in 2011 from Ukraine, through Reece's Rainbow. My online training with adults with special needs changed my world so much that it lead us to the adoption of a child with special needs. Shortly after adopting him, my oldest daughter was diagnosed with high-function asperger's, sensory processing disorder and anxiety. Which leads me to my passion for home fitness. I have always been an athlete and after tearing my ACL my last year of college softball I had to learn how to "train for life," and not train for whatever my coach told me we should do. And first that was physical therapy...from there I attended a Strong Women's conference and learned about the amazing affects strength training could have on the elderly and frail adult woman..and my life was changed! I changed my degree to Exercise Science from Art...and the rest is history. "I opened my own fitness business online and in my basement in 2007, after we moved to rural Kansas. I had worked in a gym setting all through college and after but knew I wanted to stay home with my kids more than anything, so entrepreneurship was the only way I saw to do it all. That lead to working in retirement communities teaching my strength training programs I designed and that lead to working with adults with special needs in their homes and day service provider's. And eventually I, myself, got into CrossFit, powerlifting, olympic lifting, and built my own garage gym from scratch metal, buy sell, trade sites, Craig's list, and garage sales. I started competing heavily in this region and was winning alot. But people couldn't believe I trained at home by myself...so they dubbed me the name "home gym." And it stuck. People didn't know the struggles I had to deal with at home, relating to stress with a husband who worked crazy hours leaving me a single mom most days and nights...dealing with out of control behavior's with asperger's, and physical and emotional struggles with a child who spent his first 2 year's in an orphanage. I NEEDED to workout. I NEEDED something just for me. And I HAD to workout at home when I could find time. Or needed an escape. My workouts became so much more for me than a quest for a banging bod. "And I began to form this concept in my head of empowerment. That we have to give ourselves permission to take time for us. That we have to make ourselves a priority. And that we need accountability to that. And in all of my 14 years of working in this industry I had never seen such a promotion or product. So I made my own: sheSTRENGTH. "A journey to empowerment. Mindset training. Community. Vulnerability. Strength. Belief. Courage. And so much more. But I want women to know its okay to want more for themselves in life. "And so that is my mission now. To help women find their sheSTRENGTH. Most usually the unlikely athletes, who don't feel they deserve to feel and look better, who are so far lost in their lives, kids, family, and needs of others they have lost sight of who they are and what they love." https://youtu.be/QQfAdCKKnH0 I’ve lived in the Memphis area since I was 20 so I consider this home. I stumbled upon fitness after coming out the darkest times I had ever know. Recovering from addiction was one thing but being left to deal with myself and the world unable to medicate was unbearable. For awhile smoking cigarettes was all I had left. One day while I was hiding on the side of my house smoking and looking at my 2 years old face pressed against the glass the feeling rushed over me this just wasn’t acceptable. I made the decision to quit and put on over 50 pounds in 1 year. I hated myself and would cry in my car before I had to walk into a commitment. A new low. I began to notice my buddy Wilson and his lady Amanda were running and doing CF. More importantly, I saw my friend who once had a look similar to mine grow a twinkle in his eye. I wanted to twinkle. I NEEDED to twinkle. So I downloaded Couch to 5k and hit the pavement. I joined Orangetheory Fitness and Weight Watchers and over a period have lost 55 pounds. I’ve completed many 1/2 marathons and 1 full. This past March I ran the Big Buffalo 50k and have some upcoming events I am very excited about! The Big Hill Pond 50k and St Jude 1/2 are quickly approaching and The Dopey Challenge in January of 2019. The goal is to keep signing up and showing up. To get better every day and not be so hard on myself. Today I know the gift is in each moment, not some finish line. My advice to a newcomer is never say never. Sign up for the unattainable and be amazed!

As the year dwindled away, I felt a great deal of disappointment. What happened to my 2017?! -- I would ask myself. I so greatly believed this year was going to be my best year yet. I mean… I did the whole mental visualization and mission statements thing that all the greats say they do right before they encounter breakthrough. As I reflected over my year, it turned out to be nothing I envisioned but truthfully, it turned out to be everything I NEEDED it to be. You may have followed my work for a bit now and know that I talk about courage and confidence. And maybe you think “Well, I get it, and this whole ‘courage and confidence’ thing sounds good in theory, but how will my life be different if I learn to be courageous and confident and will it even work for me!?” Let me tell you what I was like in my 20’s. I was actually a really happy girl. I had great friends, a family that loved me, worked at good jobs, and was in a long-term relationship. Outside, everything seemed great and on a surface level I was happy. But, underneath I was struggling. I was unfulfilled with my life. In my relationship there was no trust and no real connection, and my friendships were good, but nothing deep and intimate. I struggled fiercely with perfectionism, comparison, and control. I NEEDED to control. I thought if everyone would just act like I thought they should act, my life would be so much better. When shit hit the fan for me in 2006, I isolated to the point of not checking my email for weeks. I screened all my calls, and barely even talked to my parents. I hardly saw my friends and once had lunch with one of my long-term friends and she said to me, “Well, with the divorce statistics, it was bound to happen to one of us.” That’s not to blame my friend...none of us knew what to say to each other. None of us knew how to truly connect. I was lonely when I was alone, and I was lonely when I was around people. During that time of struggle I made decisions that 100 percent went against my values as a human being. I said yes to men when I really didn’t want to. Just because I thought I should or to try for one shred of connection. I would meet new people and either unload my whole story (what Brené Brown calls trying to “hotwire a connection”) or completely shut people out. What I came to realize was that once I hit adulthood, my soul became unconscious. Fast forward to now. Anyone that knows me well will tell you I’ve always been an assertive person. I’m an Aries, ENFJ, Type 8 on the Enneagram. But, all this personality stuff does not automatically mean that I was born with courage. I had to learn it, and still do every day. What it looks like in my life is this: Reaching out to the right people when I need help Making peace with the fact that most things are messy and imperfect Standing up for what I believe in— such as giving an opinion Setting healthy boundaries and saying no even though it’s not easy Letting go of control and trusting myself and my faith enough to know that I can handle anything These are just a few things of what practicing courage looks like. All of the things above still sometimes make me really uncomfortable and/or are scary. I’ve accepted that and it’s necessary. And that’s what I want for you. You can choose to be like I was— happy on the surface with an unconscious soul— or you can choose to make the decision to wake up your soul, step into an uncomfortable life that is full of imperfections, messiness, and uncertainty. But, I promise you, my dears, that this same life will be full of truth, grace, and insurmountable beauty. http://yourkickasslife.com/197
An interview with the amazing Anna Woods. "I am a wife and mom of 3. My kids are 10, 7, and 6. Most usually the unlikely athletes, who don't feel they deserve to feel and look better, who are so far lost in their lives, kids, family, and needs of others they have lost sight of who they are and what they love." Adam Petty and I discuss William H. Gass’s difficult classic The Tunnel in the first, incredibly-badly-recorded episode of my new podcast I Needed a Pretext to Read Books.
This week on Unorthodox, Israeli Burger King debuts the SufganiKing—a hamburger inside a jelly donut. Our Jewish guest is Jason Diamond, author of the new memoir, Searching for John Hughes: Or Everything I thought I Needed to Know About Life I Learned from Watching ‘80s Movies. He gives us his list of the must-see John Hughes movies. Our Gentile of the Week is actually a Jew and a gentile—Vanessa Zoltan and Casper ter Kuile—the hosts of Harry Potter and the Sacred Text, a podcast that Talmudically analyzes the wildly popular J.K. Rowling’s series. They tell us how (spoiler) Harry Potter is actually about the Holocaust. Sign up for our weekly newsletter to get new episodes and more. Email us with comments, questions and kvetches at Unorthodox@tabletmag.com. We may share your note on air. Today’s episode is brought to you by Harry’s. Last week was my Infirmary Tour. With my mom in town for a week, we visited sick & recovering friends/relatives and sat at my sister’s bedside as she successfully endured thyroid surgery. Then Vinnie got a staph infection. Then I got my period early. Then I realized I had no tampons. It was a week of not getting done any of the things I NEEDED to get done and not sitting in my own space to do the things I normally do. This is me NOT at my finest. Not at my most positive. But still trying to be a damn Pollyanna. It’s not all rainbows & unicorns, friends. Oh, and apparently Vinnie likes my belly button.
As a podcast consultant I should be telling everyone to start a podcast. I do. I believe there is a lot to be learned from starting a podcast. You learn to: Organize your thoughts Prioritize your goals Speak with confidence Work with people from different cultures As much as podcasting is about talking, I think the top podcasters are at the top because they learned how to listen. We Predicated Disgruntled Podcasters in December 2013 There was a time when it seemed every podcast had the term "on fire" tacked on at the end. In December of 2012 myself, Daniel J Lewis, Ray Ortega, Steve Stewart, and John Lee Dumas had a roundtable to discuss what Steve coined "The John Lee Dumas effect." People were starting a podcast, following a formula, and expecting the same six figure result as John. Part of that roundtbale was to point out the hard work, dedication, and insane work ethics that John has (and they being John Lee Dumas comes very naturally to him). John has always been super transparent about his life, his business, and his workflow, and how long his runway was when he jump into the unknown waters of podcasting (that's why I like the guy). John is an original. Here is the income from the eofire.com website Here Comes the Next Wave of "Podcasting is Dead." Comedian Brock Wilbur made a post and said, "“Podcasts are pointless. Anyone who tells you otherwise is the literal devil. No one is going to get rich or famous or gain any level of following from this medium ever again, because it is hilariously dead. Your idea to share caustic observations about an ongoing TV show? Pointless. Your idea to interview interesting people? Laughably misguided. Your idea to discuss each individual episode of a decade-old CW show? Well… shockingly successful.” I went and listened to his podcast. Brock has around 125 downloads per episode (13,767 downloads divided by 110 episodes). If you were a teacher, that would be 5 classrooms of 20. I’m three minutes into it, and I am now finally getting into the content. You played a song with no teaser. You are hoping that people sit through some song hoping that they make it to the content. As a first time listener, I have no idea who you are, or your guests. Your audio is right on the edge of distracting. I get it. One microphone with four people, you’re going to get room noise. It's YOUR show. You can record it any way you want. At 5 minutes you finally introduce your guests. Nobody waits for 5 minutes for someone to get to the point. You then had one of your guests introduce themselves. The average attention span is around 8 seconds now (or something ridiculous like that). In my opinion 97% of the time improv blows. Brock typed a whopping 32 words that is not a huge target for Google to find. The Yoast SEO plugin recommends 300 words per post. It's YOUR show, do what you want. Nothing screams “great content” like four people talking over each other. Who am I to judge, it works for THE VIEW. In the article you say, “two years ago we started setting aside Thursday nights to have fun people get drunk around microphones in my living room.” It sounds like you’ve achieved your goal. The one thing that really confused me, is Brock has a great looking website, but instead of adding the podcast to YOUR WEBSITE, you send people to a bad Podbean site that looks like a throw back to bad MySpace page. A Farewell To Podcasting Donovan Adkisson was on my show a while ago after completing his first year. He had written a book about it, and was excited about podcasting. Three years later he had created Adkisson Digital, four podcasts and a fair amount of frustration. If you listen to his episode titled "My Farewell to Podcasting" he states the following: I'm not saying I'm ceasing my podcasting endeavors because I don't get any feedback, but its part of it. I've realized that it's not interesting. I don't really bring anything of value to the listener. All I do is rant about the things that are happening in the world. I have nothing of value to provide because that is already being done by more higher profile and more successful people than myself. Podcast consultants make money on selling courses on how to do what they are doing. It's almost like a weird pyramid scheme (but it's not). It's absolutely not fun. I Needed to Speak to Him in Person Donovan was SUPER HONEST and admits that he never really defined his target audience, he had an idea - but it was super precise. He also knows maybe he didn't promote his podcast as much as he should have. In listening to Donovan you can tell he tried everything he did to make his show fly. While its obvious that Donovan loves podcasting. He especially loves creating lives shows, but to get HUGE sponsors you need huge numbers and Donovan (and about 90% of most podcasters) didn't have that. (To hear about making money outside of the CPM model of podcasting, check out my interview with Glen the Geek) No Apology Needed Donovan also explained how he has some legal battles going on in his life, and he has some expensive health issues. In other words, his life's priorities have shifted. If You Like it - Do it At one point Donovan admits he loves podcasting. My advice is then do it. If it makes you happy, then do it. Do it for the art and creativity. Do it for the people who listen (Donovan said he got more feedback on his "Farewell" episode than he did on any other episode), but don't do it for the approval of others. Do your best to make a show that impacts your audience (makes them laugh, cry, think, groan, educates, inspires). Your Life Changes - And So May Your Podcast My first podcast was started 10 years ago when I was playing in bands. I loved music marketing. I loved playing music live. I'm not in the place anymore in my life, and consequently, I rarely do that podcast. It's a hobby in that case, and I do it because I can. I still have a smaller group that patiently waits for the next episode. It Takes a Lot of Work, and a lot of Time I've have mentioned in the past how the TV Seinfeld didn't take off the first season and was almost cancelled. There are plenty of shows that get popular because of this thing called timing. There was a TV show in 1999 called Action on Fox. It got rave reviews. It stared Actor/Comedian (now podcaster) Jay Mohr. You probably never heard of the show. I bet you have heard of Chicago Hope, Charmed, or Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. Those are the shows Action was up against. It lasted one season. Tips to Revive Your Dead Podcast Always start with your audience. Get their opinion. (see creating surveys episode) Look at the amount of time you have to create a podcast, and create a realistic schedule that you can keep Announce when you are taking a leave of absence Search for your topic. There may be new resources that could help you with show topics Potentially add a co-host if you are flying solo. Don't be afraid to mess with the format if the only alternative is closing it down. Lastly, if you are just sick and tired of the podcast, announce your final show, and let go. Seinfeld, M*A*S*H, Cheers, etc all came to an end.
