SERIES 2 EPISODE 166: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:44) SPECIAL COMMENT: We need a special counsel to investigate the six conservatives on the Supreme Court. We know Harlan Crow spent thousands on Clarence Thomas – for what precise purpose We know somebody paid off Brett Kavanaugh's debts – who? When? Why? We know Leonard Leo's gang spent millions to put Gorsuch and the others in place – what did they get in return? We know the Trump appointees all lied to the Senate and said Roe-V-Wade was settled, then voted to overturn it – were they paid to? We know the conservatives looked at the 14th Amendment, which states when, why, and how to appeal disqualification from the ballot, and ignored the Constitution. To what end? We know those conservatives have now signaled that they will countenance a coup, or presidentially-ordered domestic assassinations, or anything, so long as they can pretend they were official acts, and so long as they don't have to rule until and unless Trump is president again. What inducement could make even conservatives – even conservative lawyers – prostitute themselves? And most of all we know, that if the polarity was reversed – if this was a Republican administration now and that was an utterly corrupt and criminal DEMOCRATIC president on trial – and a 6-3 LIBERAL Supreme Court impeding and slowing and obstructing justice – we KNOW that the Republican administration would do: There would be a Special Counsel investigating the Court. There are lesser solutions. Joyce Vance suggests Jack Smith empty his January 6th evidence at a hearing to determine what might be subject to 'presidential immunity.' Brian Beutler suggests something stronger. The gist is: we – I mean all of us who have a faint hope that there'll be representative government in this country a year from today – WE must stop assuming that being right about everything DECIDES everything any more (if it ever did). The Biden campaign is going to have to stop assuming that the president being right and good and Trump being the worst person in this country's history is going to be enough. We need to go on OFFENSE and the goal has to be to metaphorically GUT the bastard – and to metaphorically GUT all the OTHER bastards in his gang. As said by the character of the prime minister in “House of Cards” – the good version – we need to put a bit of stick about. ALSO: There's little new left to say about the psychopathic monster Kristi Noem. Yet I actually found something. It's not good. And it's from her alleged boyfriend. B-Block (25:41) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: The lovely celebrity columnist Cindy Adams just turned 94. A Florida federal judge on Thursday dismissed a lawsuit claiming former President Donald Trump should be disqualified from serving a second presidential term due to the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol breach. The judge said the attorney behind the suit lacks standing because he doesn't allege a "particularized" injury, but that state officials would have the standing. More codefendants in the Georgia case against President Trump have pleaded not guilty. They include former New York City mayor and Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani, and Ken Chesebro, the alleged architect of the plan to submit alternate electors in the 2020 presidential election. A leader of the Proud Boys was sentenced to 18 years in prison on Sept. 1 while another member got 10 years for their roles in the Jan. 6 Capitol Breach. In such a low-key manner that it barely got noticed, Fonni Willis has now formally petitioned Judge Scott McAfee to MOVE UP the trial date for everybody – and reverse his previous ruling to sever the trial of Ken Chesebro from the entire roster of 19 defendants. It would mean everybody - not just Chesebro - goes on trial just 55 days from now, instead of on March 4. And thus we are presented with the reality that the Chesebro, the man who may do the most to put Trump in prison BEFORE the 2024 election may be the man he turned to, to engineer this half-baked plan to overturn the 2020 election. Way to go Cheese-Bro! Now we need to know when the State of Georgia and maybe the Department of Justice will put this Georgia State Legislator Colton Moore behind bars. This is the State Senator with eyes on opposite sides of his head and he is the one who tried to get a special session of the Georgia senate called so he could defund the Fulton County D-A's office, and he is the one who previously revealed he believes that the Trump 19, if convicted, face death by lethal injection and he is now the one serving up on the propaganda channel “Real America's Voice” a threat to send troopers to arrest Fonni Willis and make a Trumpian stochastic promise of Civil War. In Washington, Congressman Andy Clyde is on the House Appropriations Committee and he says he has TWO amendments ready to tag on to the Fiscal 2024 budget for Commerce Justice and Science which his committee will take up next month after the recess and guess who they defund and no it's not Aileen Cannon. Clyde thinks he can take out Willis AND Alvin Bragg in New York AND Jack Smith (and he's wrong about that, which I'll explain in detail).
