699- Notice it says My Bio and not Mike Betancourt’s" Bio. I am not going to write my own bio as if it were written from third person anymore. It’s not real, it’s not me. Just like that picture you see on your left side, NO BS! I am not going to BS my way though this bio. This is me, Mike Betancourt, and I am here to write to you about myself and the experiences I’ve had in this wonderful life of comedy. I’m a veteran, I served in the United States Navy. I was a catapult crewman on board the U.S.S Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71). I was in Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. Keep in mind, I was in the Navy, so I didn’t see any land. I was out to sea launching jets, just like Top Gun… minus the cool 80s music and shirtless volleyball games. I was too busy working. Highway to the Danger Zone, baby! Serving in the military helped me develop tough skin for what I had to embark next. Juggling stand up comedy career while having a family. I have a beautiful wife and two amazing daughters, I didn’t want to travel too much starting out because I wanted my kids to know who I am. I started my stand up comedy career in 2004 and I had no idea what I was doing. Sure I got some laughs, but I still had no idea what was going on. I wasn’t afraid to make mistakes and fail; Lord knows I have failed a lot! I’ve heard the boos, seen people walk away, or even better, had people yell at me after shows because I wasn’t funny. However, I was instilled with strong work ethics from my parents, so I kept going, I was determined to learn this craft. Performing stand up comedy over the years has opened up opportunities for other creative ventures, such as acting. I can be seen in the new Golden One commercial, as well as several movies: Traffik (starring Paula Patton), Mamaboy (with Gary Busey), and Guitar Man, where I had a supporting role. Guitar Man won best drama at LA Film Festival, best feature at the Chandler Film Festival and best original screenplay at the Golden state Film Festival. In a short film called Love Rules, I won Best Supporting Actor. I also produced and acted in a short film called Evelyn, which won the audience choice award at the Life Fest Film Festival. My favorite experience to showcase is when I made it to Mt. Olympus… I mean when I was in Wrestlemania 31! I was one of Bray Wyatt’s scarecrows and one of Rusev’s Russian Soldiers! Hanging out backstage at Wrestlemania was an experience of a lifetime. I have a podcast that I write and produce called Me, Mikeself and I, a fun show where I rant and do impressions. Check it out! Check out the rest of my website, leave comments, join my newsletter and I hope to see you at a live show someday. ________ Need help with your business? It wasn't weeds fault, it was my fault for smoking before a show. I also talk about how police officers need to meditate and smoke some weed after a shift. Don't you think police officers would be a little less stressed if they smoked out just a bit? No Chet today but David Yang Mang was back up. Thank you David Yang Mang, you were hilarious. We apologize for the technical difficulties! For some reason, we couldn't be in sync with our bells and whistles. But that's okay! We mess up, and we move on! Speaking of moving on, we have a wonderful guest today, Comedian David Lew. David talks/rants/gets angry about my previous episode (thanks for listening, David, I appreciate it). He also talks about comedy life, battling cancer-nope, not battling. David likes to say he's "stroking cancer." He also talks about his comedy show coming, called "Still Alive at 35," which will be at Tommy T's in Pleasanton this Wednesday, March 21st. Listen to this episode, it's a lot of fun! It's not an easy accomplishment. People have dedicated their lives to making film. But I don't need to watch rich people talk about rich people winning awards. I love movies and I congratulate all the winners from this years Oscars. It's not easy of what they have accomplished. But out of the 90 years of Oscar award shows, 36 of those years have never been watched by me. I just watch the highlights and pretend to know what I'm talking about at gatherings. I found an interesting video that is already floating around the internet about one of the movies that won an award. Nope not gonna tell ya. You need listen to this podcast to find out. Wild Man Mike Betancourt drops in to DESTROY the studio! No, not really. You will find out that Mike is a changed man. He tells his story of the Highs and Lows of the last year. He explains his melt down at the Comedy Spot and how he has work very hard to get back on top. A fascinating story. Listen and Enjoy.
On this episode we chat with the four comics that make up the themed comedy show, The Mikes! Of course, the only "theme" this show has going for it is that all of the comics are named Mike, and that they're all really really funny! It was great to talk to Betancourt, O'Connell, Calvin Jr., and Sinclair (via phone) and see what makes each one of them tick, how they came to be together, and where they hope to take this show in the future. We also learn how they've changed as comedians since they started putting this show on nearly a year ago. Take a listen, and then support these guys when they roll into your area.
