A woman on TikTok has sparked a heated debate after revealing that she wants her husband to pay for her child from a previous relationship to attend private school. The husband says he's already paying for his own biological child’s private education and believes the child's biological father should be responsible for covering those costs instead. The situation has divided social media. Some people argue that once you marry someone with children, you take on a parental role and should treat all the children in the household equally. Others feel it's unfair to expect a step-parent to take on a financial responsibility that should belong to the biological parent, especially when it comes to expensive choices like private schooling. So where do you stand? If one child in the house goes to private school, should all the kids get the same opportunity, regardless of who their biological parents are? Or is the husband right to say the biological father should be footing that bill? Hang out with Anele and The Club on 947 every weekday morning. In this episode of Be Evolved, Mary Miele sits down with special education attorney Tracey Spencer Walsh, Esq., to unpack the reality that most private school families never hear: you do have rights, but they look very different from what public school families are told. Together, they break down the myths surrounding IDEA and private schools, explain what Child Find actually means for your child, and clarify what families gain — and give up — when choosing a private education path. The conversation moves into the critical details: how to think about evaluations (clinical vs. legal), why documentation matters more than you think, and how a lack of paper trail can quietly limit future options. This episode is both a reality check and a roadmap — for families who assume they're outside the system, and for those who sense something isn't working but don't yet know what to do next. In this episode: The difference between IEPs, IESPs, and FAPE Why private school families still have important legal rights When to pursue a neuropsychological evaluation How to seek public funding for specialized schools The essential 10-day notice requirement If you have a child in a NYC private school and are navigating learning differences, this conversation will change how you think about your options — and your leverage. In this episode of the show we are reaching once more into the honeypot of sex comedies from the early 1980's and this time we are discussing Private School. Over the course of our conversation you will hear us talk about how this movie is a spiritual successor of a movie titled Private Lessons and whose origins distantly connect to the erotic franchise Emmanuelle, how it once more functions like a synthesis of Animal House and Porky's but it also registers a bit differently and marginally less sleazy. We also talk about the perils of dressing up as Tootsie to infiltrate a female dormitory, Michael Zurek in makeup looking like Leatherface and the absolutely ridiculous concept of sex arcade game machines. In an investigation of all New Zealand private schools the NZ Herald found that more colleges than ever are charging $30,000-plus in tuition fees with an average 4.2% tuition rise this year, the smallest increase in three years. Independent Schools of New Zealand CEO Guy Pascoe told Mike Hosking the jump in fees can be attributed to rising cost of living, but that hasn't impacted tuition numbers. "We still see pretty strong demand across our schools," he said. LISTEN ABOVESee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Applying to private school? Your list matters more than you think. In this episode, Becky Reback guides listeners through one of the most overlooked yet critical parts of the school admissions process: building the right school list. Rather than relying on reputation, rankings, or outside opinions, she emphasizes the importance of creating a thoughtful, strategic list rooted in a child's unique needs, learning style, and family values. Drawing on expert insights, Becky walks through what truly goes into a strong school list — from understanding educational philosophy and practical constraints to assessing a child's developmental readiness and alignment with each school's expectations. She highlights how most families unknowingly build lists based on "noise," and how shifting to a more intentional approach can transform the entire admissions experience. This episode matters because it replaces overwhelm with clarity. When families have the right list, everything else — from applications to interviews — becomes more focused and effective. In this episode: Why most school lists are built on reputation—not fit What schools are actually looking for right now How to assess your child's true readiness and needs The difference between a "good" list and a strategic one How clarity can reduce stress and improve outcomes If you're navigating nursery through boarding school admissions, this is a must-listen. Instead of doing nothing my Brother Kelali and I just started talking while recording and then boom this episode was created. This powerful episode is told through the lens of Kelali as a father. He explores the real purpose of money, how financial literacy shapes legacy, and whether public or private school better prepares children for long-term success. We discuss how to build wealth that lasts, teach kids financial discipline, and make smart decisions about education, legacy, and freedom. This conversation challenges traditional ideas of success and reveals what it really takes to create generational impact.

Francis W. Parker School, a private K-12 college prep school in Lincoln Park, is moving forward with plans to expand its footprint following years of neighborhood backlash, failed buyout attempts and at one point a lawsuit. The school's plan to expand, neighbors say, could cost families their homes, reshape a tightly knit residential block and deepen a yearslong rift between the school and the community it calls home. Leaving private school was one of the messiest decisions we ever made… and somehow, still the best one. We lost friendships. Burned bridges. Our kids paid for a decision we weren't even sure was right at the time. The quiet panic of wondering if you just messed up your kid's entire future swamped us. We hate to be an "I Told You So", but we did tell you and tell you AND TELL YOU that the decades-in-the-making plan to divert public school tax dollars to exclusive and frequently parochial private schools was not about "educational freedom" - it was about a rebate on the private school tuition that wealthy Texans have already chosen, and a review of the applicants in this first go-round appear to be primed to play those progressive warnings out. Also - big AI techs have been quietly funding Republican candidates in Texas handsomely this election cycle - wonder why on earth they'd be doing that? We discuss. Thanks for listening! Tim Harford investigates some of the numbers in the news. This week: A headline in the Mail says more than 100 private schools have closed since Labour came to power and ended the VAT exemption for private schools. Is that number right? Is it true that when Covid hit the UK, a one-week delay in imposing lockdown led to 23,000 deaths? Do 10 million families rely on X as their main source of news? That's what government spokesperson Baroness Ruth Anderson said in the House of Lords, but is it correct? s there really a “quiet revival” of Christian worship? Two YouGov polls found churchgoing had gone up by 50% between 2018 and 2024 in England and Wales. New polling data suggests otherwise.
