Welcome to Majority.FM's AM QUICKIE! Brought to you by justcoffee.coop TODAY'S HEADLINES: Joe Biden has unveiled his national strategy for fighting the coronavirus pandemic. But does it aim high enough? Meanwhile, Donald Trump’s businesses are hurting, big time. And his creditors will soon come knocking for $300 million – or more – that he owes. And lastly, the Biden administration is calling a halt to deportations while they figure out what’s going on at the Homeland Security Department. It’s a big relief for immigrant families. THESE ARE THE STORIES YOU NEED TO KNOW: The new message from the White House is that things may get worse before they get better, but help is on its way. President Joe Biden used his first full day in office yesterday to go on the offensive against the coronavirus, the New York Times reports. He promised to make aggressive use of executive power to tame the worst public health crisis in a century. In a two hundred-page document called the National Strategy for the Covid-19 Response and Pandemic Preparedness, the new administration outlines the kind of centralized federal response that Democrats have long demanded and Donald Trump refused. To carry it out, Biden signed a dozen executive actions in an afternoon White House ceremony. The Biden plan is in some respects overly optimistic and in others a little timid, according to the Times. His promise to inject one hundred million vaccines in his first hundred days is aiming low, since those hundred days should see twice that number of doses available. Because the approved coronavirus vaccines require two doses, Biden is promising only to vaccinate fifty to seventy million Americans. Biden bristled when a reporter asked if the goal should be higher. He said QUOTE Come on, give me a break, man ENDQUOTE. The Biden team has been quick to point fingers at the Trump administration’s failures, the Times reports. Jeff Zients, the new White House Covid-19 response coordinator, said QUOTE What we’re inheriting is so much worse than we could have imagined. The cooperation or lack of cooperation from the Trump administration has been an impediment. We don’t have the visibility that we would hope to have into supply and allocations ENDQUOTE. Fair enough, but the new administration can’t expect a long honeymoon. Biden himself acknowledged that the death toll will probably top five hundred thousand next month. Trump Businesses Bleeding Revenue Soon we’ll be able to take a break from covering Donald Trump, but this story is too juicy to pass up. According to the Associated Press, Trump is returning to a family business ravaged by pandemic restrictions. Revenue is plunging more than forty percent at his Doral golf property, his Washington hotel and both his Scottish resorts. Trump’s financial disclosure released as he left office this week was just the latest bad news for his empire. It came after banks, real estate brokerages and golf organizations announced they were cutting ties with his company following the storming of the Capitol. The disclosure showed sizable debt facing the company of more than $300 million, much of it coming due in the next four years, the AP reports. The disclosure report shows only revenue figures, not profits, but the hit to Trump’s business appeared widespread. The National Doral Golf Club outside of Miami took in $44.2 million in revenue, a drop of $33 million from 2019. The Trump International Hotel in Washington, once buzzing with lobbyists and diplomats, generated just $15.1 million in revenue, down more than sixty percent. Trump’s Turnberry club in Scotland took in less than $10 million, down more than sixty percent. Revenue at the family’s golf club in Aberdeen also dropped by roughly the same proportion. The financial blow from former business partners cutting ties to Trump could be sizable, the AP says. The PGA of America canceled a tournament at Trump’s Bedminster club in New Jersey. Several banks said they would no longer lend to the company. And New York City said it would be canceling contracts with the company, including those running skating rinks and a golf club in the Bronx. Revenue at that course, the Trump Golf Links at Ferry Point, fell twenty percent last year to $6.4 million. Maybe he should downsize. Try mini golf. Homeland Security Pauses Deportations The Biden administration has ordered US immigration agencies to focus their energies on threats to national security and public safety, the Washington Post reports. The policy shift ends a four-year stretch during the Trump administration that exposed anyone in the United States without papers to deportation. Acting Homeland Security Secretary David Pekoske issued a memo hours after Biden’s inaugural setting strict limits for arresting and deporting immigrants while the department reviews its policies. He also imposed an immediate hundred-day pause on many deportations, to take effect no later than today. Pekoske is in charge as the Senate considers the nomination of Alejandro Mayorkas, the former deputy DHS secretary during the Obama administration, according to the Post. The memo is the first step in a broader plan to find a different solution for the eleven million undocumented immigrants in the US, many of whom are essential workers, have lived here for years and have children who are citizens. Congress has not passed a major citizenship bill since 1986. Biden has unveiled legislation that would allow millions to apply for citizenship. The Post says that during the review period, DHS said it will impose sensible priorities for enforcing civil immigration laws. Starting February 1st, immigrants eligible for deportation will fall into three categories: National security threats, such as spies or terrorists; border crossers who arrived on or after November 1st; and aggravated felons currently serving time for crimes such as murder or drug trafficking, after they are released from prison. Immigrants who voluntarily waive their rights to remain in the US, after seeking legal counsel, may be deported. Biden has said it was a QUOTE big mistake ENDQUOTE to deport as many people as the Obama administration did. Biden will announce additional immigration actions on January 29th. This country is desperate for sanity on immigration. Maybe we’ll finally get it. AND NOW FOR SOME QUICKER QUICKIES: Two suicide bombers detonated explosive vests in a crowded market in central Baghdad yesterday morning, killing at least thirty-two people in the biggest such attack in several years, according to the New York Times. ISIS eventually claimed responsibility, although it’s supposedly been defeated. The Washington Post reports that Lieutenant General Charles Flynn, the brother of disgraced former national security adviser Michael Flynn, was involved in a key meeting during the US Army’s response to the US Capitol insurrection. What’s more, the Army falsely denied this fact for days. How strange! Maybe Congress will figure it out. The Biden administration fired the National Labor Relations Board’s general counsel, Peter Robb, on Wednesday night, ending the tenure of a figure seen as a foe by worker advocates and labor unions, according to the Post. Biden will now need to nominate a replacement, who must receive Senate confirmation. May we suggest Scabby the Rat? Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell is proposing to give former Donald Trump two weeks to prepare his legal case for his second impeachment trial, Politico reports. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has not yet transmitted the article of impeachment to the Senate, but said yesterday she would do so QUOTE soon ENDQUOTE. Let’s get it over and done. Top Takeaways:- There are two halves to customer-centricity. One is the great leaders of CX, who are inspirational catalysts for creating a customer-centric culture. The other half is the people in the trenches, who connect those leaders and companies with solutions. - Any customer experience tactic or strategy you try to implement should be supported by your customer record, which is all the information you can (legally) gather about your customer. - If you want senior leadership to invest in customer experience, you must show them the ROI (return on investment). - The best way to position customer experience to leadership is to highlight the increase in productivity, efficiency and agility. - Touchless and contactless payments have existed since 1997, but have been accelerated and more widely adopted over the past year. - The employee experience has a huge impact on the customer experience. If employees are happy and well-supported, they are able to better support customers and deliver a better experience. - Employee needs will continue to change moving forward. Make the voice of the employee a central part of the decision-making process. - Become a partner to your customers and clients, rather than another vendor. If you’re not a partner, you’re in a potential churn zone where someone else could come along and build a better relationship with your customers. - The inspiration and innovation that comes from teamwork is what drives a customer-centric culture. And that is available to executives free of charge! Quote:“What is at the center of the productivity conversation is this notion of employee experience. Welcome to this week's edition of our Friday jam session! I'm so glad to have you here. If you want to join us every Friday, head over to takeactioncrew.com to be a part of our weekly sessions, it's one of my week's highlights because I get to hang out with some awesome people and answer some great questions. We're going to start with a topic that I've had a lot of questions asked about this week to get things started. Digital Product Launch A few ways that you can monetize as quickly as possible include Content creation will bring in traffic Pinterest Drive to Our Website Build Your Email List What is the one thing that you're market wants and need right now? Turn it into a digital funnel that can lead to making money a lot quicker. In order to make this possible, you're going to need a product.n For the people who are currently creating content right now and don't have an email list, let's start here. What are the things that someone needs to know to get a result in helping them with whatever they are trying to accomplish (a guide, cheatsheet, etc.) Reach out to the market to make sure you're creating things they are actually interested in. Once you do that, you will create blog posts, written content, and videos that address each sub-topic. You're building a product while creating content at the same time. We're basically publishing the product in parts. At the end of it, you can combine all those blogposts, bundle them up, and make an ebook. Word of Caution: Don't just copy and paste your blog posts into an ebook. Always add value. This could be as simple as adding a few screenshots, images, and additional resources. Now you have a digital asset, and you're ready to launch it. Launch Runway Timeframe I created a popup Pinterest workshop and only advertised it for a short time before the actual event. We wanted to help people with that one specific area and knew that we would have people interested. We also wanted to get people that are interested in building their brand so we can invite them to join brandcreators.com when it opens. Keep in mind that if you have a bigger launch, it'll take more energy, resources, and times if you've never done a launch before always start with a small mini digital funnel to get started. Identify the One Thing What is the one thing that will give your audience a quick win? Make sure to do your research and now what people in your niche want. You can use your free lead magnet to build your email list. On the thank you page, you can introduce them to your digital project and give a discount if they purchase within a certain amount of time. Just make sure that the lead magnet and digital product are closely related, so it would make sense for them to buy it. I recommend limiting the number of lead magnets that you have on your website to keep things simple. Over the next six months, you can create additional digital products using your content and then could combine them and use it as an order bump. Email List Benefits Once we've built your email list now, we can talk about launching other products. Giving visitors a quick win will help invite them to purchase your first project. This will help you move fast when you're ready to create new products. You want to reach out to your email list and ask them what they are looking for in your niche. What are they struggling with or need help with? Once you get some answers, you can create content that helps solve the problem. Always do this with new products to make sure you're always creating content that your audience wants. Never just assume that you know. Don't ever just guess that something is going to be a good product, actually ask what the market wants. From there, you can create it. Here is what your sequence should look like. Always make it known beforehand that you have a new product launch coming. Step 1: Lead by asking a question of what they want to learn or know more about. That will become the product. Step 2: Send an email and let them know that you had asked the audience a question and want to share how you've been able to help solve the product and lead them to your product. Note: Every email isn't going to be solely focused on selling your product. You'll always include tips and ways to help them that are related to your product. Naturally, lead into it. I can't stand when I go to read an article, and they want my name and email for me to read the whole thing. Instead, just implement a lead magnet. How Long Should You Nurture Your List Before Selling? I would have the free lead magnet, and I would send that to your email list. They'll enter their email address again (they won't be added to your list twice). It'll send them to a thank you email with an offer for your product, and you can always send a follow-up email. Make sure to give them valuable information in the process and make sure they are utilizing the free lead magnet. Paid Memberships You need first to know exactly what people want and what they are willing to pay for monthly. It would be figuring out what is the solution or the problem that you are going to help solve and, from there, create something free on the front end for a quick win. Then you can lead with your first product, to get yourself rolling. I would recommend never to start with a membership site right off the bat. You want to make sure they are getting everything that you progress. Start with a small sales funnel and build off of it. Join In On The Fun If you want to attend one of our live Friday jam sessions, head over to takeactioncrew.com to join us live every Friday at 10 am. We would love to have you! Remember, I am always here for you, I believe in you and am rooting for you. Now it's time for you to take action and go rock your brand! Take-Aways From Today's Episode Digital Product Launch (4:03) Identify the One Thing (7:51) Email List Benefits (12:50) Paid Memberships (20:50) Quote: What is the one thing that you're market wants and need right now? Turn it into a digital funnel that can lead to making money a lot quicker. Or What is the one thing that will give your audience a quick win?
Welcome to Majority.FM's AM QUICKIE! Brought to you by justcoffee.coop TODAY'S HEADLINES: People in thousands of cities and towns around the world joined uprisings against police brutality and systemic oppression, from London, England to Whitefish, Montana. Mass protests were ongoing across the United States, where security forces led violent and coordinated attacks on peaceful demonstrators. Meanwhile, governments across the world struggled to keep a handle on rapidly developing events in the US – while facing crises of their own. At least one US embassy in Europe was attacked, apparently by protesters; border tensions were reportedly growing between China and India. And lastly, some perspective, with a remarkable discovery from a lost civilization. A reminder that the monuments of oppression will not survive – but will protesters tear them down before Mother Nature does the job? THESE ARE THE STORIES YOU NEED TO KNOW: We hope you are doing okay out there. Here is how I feel this morning: [AD LIB]. And here’s what’s happening as of recording at [CURRENT TIME]. It seemed that everywhere across the US yesterday there were peaceful, powerful demonstrations calling for an end to police brutality, systemic racism, inequality, and injustice. And most places, it seemed, the authorities did not take kindly to these most basic demands. The police – and, in some places, the US military – responded to these acts of Constitutionally protected speech with horrifying violence and cruelty. Local news and activist videos suggested police reserved special mistreatment for blacks, Latinos, trans people, suspected anti-fascists, and other targeted groups first. But police attacks were also indiscriminate. Many it seemed were driven not only by their orders, which remain unclear, but by fear and paranoia. Disinformation abounded especially concerning outside agitators and threats to police. The tension was not helped by conflicting reports about what the US military was doing at the highest levels to support police violence. If you happen to know, please do share with the rest of us. The morning began in Washington, DC, with more soldiers bearing no insignia or name tags surrounding the Episcopal Diocese while clergy staged an event inside. Some of the secret forces were widely identified as Bureau of Prisons Special Operations unit from Texas, others were said to from National Guard and other agencies. Donald Trump denied he had retreated to a bunker earlier this week but his story was quickly debunked by the Washington Post, which reported that the Secret Service rushed him away after two protesters tipped a movable barricade outside the White House. False claims about acts of terrorism by protesters around the country, featuring images sourced from local police, were posted then removed from the official White House Twitter account. The Post reports the following states have sent or will send National Guard troops to DC: Utah, Ohio, South Carolina, Indiana, New Jersey, Maryland, Tennessee. States that reportedly declined: Virginia, New York, Pennsylvania, and Delaware. Some Guard and active-duty soldiers were refusing to deploy against civilians and are instead joining the peaceful uprisings against police brutality and for black lives. Such scenes were shown on ABC News before a young protester told people to get their news online as she was effusively praised by the anchor. There were doubts about how long Defense Secretary Mark Esper would keep his job. The Joint Chiefs of Staff released a statement saying they were sworn to uphold the Constitution. A new ad by Joe Biden said QUOTE Donald Trump has turned our country into a battlefield riven by old resentments and fresh fears. He thinks division helps him ENDQUOTE. Former President Barack Obama also released a video saying that your lives matter. And former Defense Secretary James Mattis also made a statement critical of the police and military crackdown. Outside the bunkers of the wealthy and powerful, thousands suffered senseless violence by authorities. The NYPD charged into crowds with batons, fired gas and committed other assaults. Disinformation abounded regarding the extent of police injuries and several police radios were reported missing. The FBI was paying visits to protesters and asking about anti- fascist sympathies. Civil rights groups advised people to say nothing and ask for a laywer. An inmate reportedly died after being pepper sprayed in the Metropolitan Detention Center. New York City Public Advocate Jumaane Williams said of Bill DeBlasio, QUOTE What happened to the mayor that ran on the blood and the tears of black lives? What happened to that man? He has disappeared ENDQUOTE. Three people were arrested in Las Vegas on suspicion of terrorist acts intended to stoke a civil war. In Minnesota, all four cops seen lynching George Floyd on video were at last criminally charged. But the police chief has stopped responding to the press and called for backup when a reporter knocked on his door. In New Orleans, police reportedly gassed protesters on a freeway causing a stampede. In Iowa City, police tear-gassed a peaceful crowd and were seen to assault medics. An incident in Huntsville, Alabama, illustrated the current risk to journalists and demonstrators: local and state police fired on a peaceful crowd, and directly at a reporter, while anchors in studio cast the protesters as criminals. They are saying police had no choice but to do what they did. It is a lie. The ACLU of California demanded an end to curfews and First Amendment violations. Protesters in Oakland formed a white wall around black demonstrators to protect them from police. Diverse young people made powerful speeches for justice, peace, equality, and revolutionary change. Elsewhere in the Bay Area, in Vallejo, police shot dead a twenty-two- year-old man named Sean Monterrosa. They cops say he was looting. He was kneeling. Free Speech Threatened Internationally Outwide the US, the movement for justice spread rapidly. But the full extent of the reaction is uncertain and no doubt changing by the minute. A crowd of what appeared to be demonstrators torched the US Embassy in Athens, Greece, with molotov cocktails. There were also calmer rallies and demonstrations outside other American embassies, in solidarity with the oppressed, demanding justice and fundamental change. Not all developments were encouraging. The border standoff between India and China intensified, according to reports from both countries. Hong Kong media said the Chinese government was eager to test new weapons systems in the contested region with India. That conflict was also said to be playing out over social media. And on the anniversary of the Tiananmen Square crackdown, Beijing reportedly imposed a new law in Hong Kong that banned mockery of the Chinese national anthem. Confederate Statue to Fall Wonders never cease. Scientists discovered the largest and oldest known monument built by the Mayan civilization in Mexico. It is called Aguada Fenix and they say it was built around one thousand years BC. It was discovered using survey lasers and if you can find a picture online it’s quite something to behold. And to think about. All over the world, monuments to colonial oppression are falling -- or at least being defaced. There may be armored vehicles on the streets of Virginia, USA, but Governor Ralph Northam announced plans to remove a statue of Confederate General Robert E. Lee, in Richmond. It is a start. AND NOW FOR SOME QUICKER QUICKIES: How is the weather? There was a five point one magnitude earthquake outside Los Angeles as police attacked protesters in the streets. The Los Angeles Times reports there have been five quakes of magnitude three or greater in the past ten days near Ridgecrest. A tropical storm was headed for Mexico’s Gulf Coast of Campeche. state and may near US shores on Sunday. The official who devised Sweden’s hands-off pandemic strategy for coronavirus reportedly admitted he was wrong to do so. Global deaths due to COVID-19 passed 385,000, according to Johns Hopkins University. More than a third of those were in the US. The virus was also reported to be spreading fast and claiming lives in Brazil in record numbers. There was an online dust-up over another terrible New York Times opinion column yesterday. This time around, the social justice warriors were up in arms over a piece purportedly written by Arkansas Republican Senator Tom Cotton, who called for the military to be deployed against civil rights protesters around the country. Cotton no doubt imagines he could be the next dictator. One wonders what his editors at the Times were thinking! The governor of Tokyo announced next year’s Olympic Games may need to be QUOTE simplified ENDQUOTE. What shall it be, then? Running? KEY TAKEAWAYS The land is entitled to a Sabbath rest as a part of the Torah commandments. If Israel disobeys the Torah and does not allow the land to rest, they will be punished by God, including being sent into exile.Romans 8 is similar to Leviticus 26. The land (creation) is waiting for its release from bondage, which will occur when humans attain their release from their bondage.QUOTE“What we call the natural world in the biblical story is an existence with humans living at odds with our real nature and our environment. (The Land) is not ours to do what we want with.”SHOW NOTESIn part 1 (0-18:35), Tim and Jon review the conversation so far and quickly go over the Jewish festival calendar year to recap how it reflects the theme of seventh-day rest. They also discuss the Year of Jubilee. In part 2 (18:35-32:40), Tim shares from Leviticus 26 and talks about the “covenant curses” that God pronounces. If Israel disobeys the commands, they will be exiled. Their exile is portrayed an inverted jubilee. Covenant loyalty will result in Eden blessing, freedom, abundance, and security, much like the jubilee.Leviticus 26:3-13“If you walk in my statutes and keep my commandments so as to carry them out, then I shall give you rains in their season, so that the land will yield its produce and the trees of the field will bear their fruit. Indeed, your threshing will last for you until grape gathering, and grape gathering will last until sowing time. You will thus eat your food to the full (Heb. שבע, seven) and live securely in your land.“I shall also grant peace in the land, so that you may lie down with no one making you tremble. I shall also eliminate harmful beasts from the land, and no sword will pass through your land…“So I will turn toward you and make you fruitful and multiply you, and I will confirm my covenant with you. You will eat the old supply and clear out the old because of the new. Moreover, I will make my dwelling among you, and my soul will not reject you. I will also walk among you (cf. Genesis 3:8) and be your God, and you shall be my people. I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt so that you would not be their slaves, and I broke the bars of your yoke and made you walk erect.”Tim says the takeaway from this passage is that covenant violation will result in seven anti-jubilee curses, slavery, poverty, and oppression, which is also portrayed with symbolic seven imagery.Leviticus 26:14-18, 21, 23-24, 27-28, 33-35“But if you will not listen to me and carry out all these commands, and if you reject my decrees and abhor my laws and fail to carry out all my commands and so violate my covenant, then I will do this to you: I will bring on you sudden terror, wasting diseases and fever that will destroy your sight and sap your strength. You will plant seed in vain, because your enemies will eat it. I will set my face against you so that you will be defeated by your enemies; those who hate you will rule over you, and you will flee even when no one is pursuing you.“If after all this you will not listen to me, I will discipline you for your sins seven times over.“If you remain hostile toward me and refuse to listen to me, I will multiply your afflictions seven times over, as your sins deserve.“If in spite of these things you do not accept my correction but continue to be hostile toward me, I myself will be hostile toward you and will afflict you for your sins seven times over.“If in spite of this you still do not listen to me but continue to be hostile toward me, then in my anger I will be hostile toward you, and I myself will discipline you for your sins seven times over.“I will scatter you among the nations and will draw out my sword and pursue you. Your land will be laid waste, and your cities will lie in ruins. Then the land will enjoy its sabbath years all the time that it lies desolate and you are in the country of your enemies; then the land will rest and enjoy its sabbaths. All the time that it lies desolate, the land will have the rest it did not have during the sabbaths you lived in it.”Jon notes that Western culture allows us to think that we own land. However, owning land in ancient Israel wasn’t reality. Instead, the land would return to the family originally entrusted with it every fifty years. God considers the land to be his, and Israel is tenants upon it.In part 3 (32:40-end), Tim finishes Leviticus 26.Leviticus 26:40-45“If they confess their iniquity and the iniquity of their forefathers, in their unfaithfulness which they committed against me, and also in their acting with hostility against me… or if their uncircumcised heart becomes humbled so that they then make amends for their iniquity, then I will remember my covenant with Jacob, and I will remember also my covenant with Isaac, and my covenant with Abraham as well, and I will remember the land. For the land will be abandoned by them, and will make up for its sabbaths while it is made desolate without them.“Yet in spite of this, when they are in the land of their enemies, I will not reject them, nor will I so abhor them as to destroy them, breaking my covenant with them; for I am the Lord their God. But I will remember for them the covenant with their ancestors, whom I brought out of the land of Egypt in the sight of the nations, that I might be their God. I am the Lord.”Tim notes that the same logic that gives the land rest in Leviticus 26 also appears in the New Testament, when Paul writes in Romans 8.Romans 8:19-23“For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the children of God; for the creation was subjected to futility, not of its own will but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to decay and will obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God. We know that the whole creation has been groaning in labor pains until now; and not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the first fruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly while we wait for adoption, the redemption of our bodies.”Creation will be liberated from its bondage when humans are liberated from theirs. Today we continue with the Brain Games Series but first, we start with a testimony from Mrs. Karen. today's sermon is called Stinking Thinking. Pastor's Notes: Romans 8:5-8 NKJV For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. 6 For to be [a]carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. 7 Because the [b]carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. 8 So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God. INTRODUCTION Good morning, everyone! It was great last week as we joined together in communion, and we are looking forward to baptism this morning as well. Last week, I challenged you in the area of strongholds. Today, I want to talk to you about “Stinking Thinking”. ILLUSTRATION There’s a story I heard of a man who got married whose friends played a prank on him at his bachelor party. He fell asleep on the couch, and his buddies smeared a bit of strong-smelling cheese dip on his mustache. It caused him to wake up to an awful smell. He got up, ran to the kitchen. It smelled in there. He turned around, ran into the living room, and it smelled there. He put his shoes on, ran outside, and it smelled out there. He said “What’s the use! The whole world stinks!” I’m sorry to tell you, but the whole world doesn’t stink. What stinks is under your nose! Ever felt that way? We have all experienced bad days and horrible situations. We've felt trapped, helpless and, at times, hopeless. We may have even believed that the whole world stinks. TRANSITION Such is the same in the lives of many people. Nothing is good, everything is falling apart, and the whole world is hopeless. Perhaps the problem is not with the world, but rather right under your nose. Your tongue is invisibly connected to your thoughts and your heart. what you think on, you will eventually utter, and what you say will end up lodging in your mind. It’s a proven fact. Look at what Jesus said about the heart and tongue connection: Luke 6:45 NKJV 45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil [a]treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks. QUOTE: What’s down in the well will always come up in the bucket. That’s why guarding your soul matters. Proverbs 4:23 NKJV Keep your heart with all diligence, For out of it spring the issues of life. When mind is bathed in negativity, it affects the filter of our lives. Look at this passage in Titus 1:15 NKJV To the pure all things are pure, but to those who are defiled and unbelieving nothing is pure; but even their mind and conscience are defiled. In other words, being critical, negative, and pessimistic has to do with the lens or filter through which you view life. When your mind is fleshly and carnal, it’s all but impossible to view things the correct way. ILLUSTRATION CAMERA LENS ILLUSTRATION But what’s the truth? Is the glass half full, or is it half empty? Both are true. What matters is how you see things. QUOTE: When you change the way you see things, the things you see change. BACKGROUND In Romans, Paul is dealing with the exact same thing. He is dealing with the carnal mindset and how it affects our lives. Question: How many of you want to win in life? If so, then let’s look at what the Bible says about our thoughts. APPLICATION 1. Our mindset is determined by choice. (vs. 5)- You can set it on carnal things.- You can set it on spiritual things.2. Our mindset produces fruit. (vs. 6)- Life and Peace- Death and Carnality3. Our mindset produces defeat or victory. (vs. 7-8) - If we are at war with God, the devil wins.- If we line up with Him, we win! CONCLUSION How can we shift our mindset? Paul tells us how to shift our focus. Philippians 4:8 NKJV 8 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.
Getting real about Food Addiction and the fact we need to take Personal Responsibility:Jennifer Alembik is a Food Addiction Coach and recovering food addict who has devoted her life to speaking, writing and coaching on this debilitating disease. Jenny’s intense passion to raise awareness and help others comes from her own personal struggle with food. She sought treatment at age 21 but sadly, it was ineffective. Finally, at the age of 45 yrs., she learned of her severe addiction to sugar and flour; the addictive culprits of her insane obsession and compulsion to eat. She currently resides in Florida with her three children; maintaining a 75lb weight loss and enjoying a full life, obsession free. So you have to learn different tools and techniques. So with that, when you are feeling major stress, which is life, you’ve got to learn how to calm yourself down. Learn how to not go to the food first. [20:00] This is what I’ve learned and from observing and listening and watching the people who are morbidly obese. 300, 400, 500, 600 pounds, like the My 600-lb Life tv show, I noticed one thing in common. People are not going to like me when I say this, but it’s what I believe. There is an emotional maturity level, their EQ, not their IQ, we’re talking about here. Some of them are very intelligent, however, we’re talking about EQ here, emotional maturity is what they lack. [30:00] I love that there’s a person who lives in my area and she’s big on educating the kids. I think that’s wonderful. But I think it’s futile. Because a child does not go food shopping, the child does not make their meals, you must as a parent, take that responsibility. I’m not knocking parents, I believe every mother wants the best for their child and they’re doing the best that they can. They really were just uneducated on these topics. [40:00] Final Words Final Words:You have got to be you. Everybody’s pain threshold is different but you’ve got to know when you hit it. When I was ready, I was done. There wasn’t enough. I had eaten every food more than 1000 times. I was so done because I just couldn’t take the pain anymore. The mental insanity and the physically uncomfortable feelings meant that I just was done. I was like, you know, I’m 45, I’m halfway through my life! I’m not willing to continue to live this way anymore. I have three young girls and I have to be their role model. You get one shot at life. Believing in yourself means to be fearless……fearless in your approach to everything you do. Believe in yourself to create the life you wish to have, the dreams you wish to manifest, to be the person you aspire to being and to journey through this world with a sense of wonder, adventure and joy.I once asked my yoga master ‘how do you keep out of darkness and despair? She looked at me as though I was half-mad and said very slowly and plainly: In order to come out of the darkness, you have to step into the light. It’s that simple and it’s a choice you make!I realised long ago that every ‘thought-seed’ that we plant will one day bloom. Positive thoughts will bear positive fruit. Negative thoughts will bear negative fruit. It’s the difference between the weed and the rose. This applies without doubt to how we mould ourselves – and mould ourselves we do. We can walk the highway as it broadens out to infinite distances and possibilities or we can remain huddled up into ourselves too frightened to walk out the front door. And so, what are some of the seeds, we need to plant? Let us reflect on these for a little while. After all – dreams cannot manifest without one taking action.Quote:“What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.”– Ralph Waldo Emerson

It’s about WW1 news 100 years ago this week - and it’s about WW1 NOW - news and updates about the centennial and the commemoration. WW1 Centennial News is brought to you by the U.S. World War I Centennial Commission and the Pritzker Military Museum and Library. Today is June 21st, 2017 and I’m Theo Mayer - Chief Technologist for the World War One Centennial Commission and your host. World War One THEN 100 Year Ago This Week [sound transition] We have gone back in time 100 years and in mid June 1917 one of the key events here in the United States is the passing of the “Espionage Act”. The law makes it a crime for any person to convey information intended to interfere with the U.S. armed forces’ prosecution of the war effort. The convicted spy is subject to a fine of $10,000 - that is the equivalent of 200,000 in 2017 dollars, plus a prison sentence of up to 20 years. And within a year, the pendulum swings ever further into autocracy as the espionage act is reinforced by the Sedition act of 1918. It imposed similarly harsh penalties on anyone found guilty of insulting or abusing the U.S. government, the flag, the Constitution or the military; agitating against the production of necessary war materials; or advocating, teaching or just defending any of these acts. Both pieces of legislation are aimed at socialists, pacifists and other anti-war activists and are used to punishing effect in the early years and those immediately following the war - It is a chilling attack on the first amendment - that seems incredibly strong and even excessive in today’s terms. We will be following this story and it’s consequences over the coming months. links about the Espionage act are in the podcast notes: link:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Espionage_Act_of_1917 http://www.history.com/this-day-in-history/u-s-congress-passes-espionage-act http://www.firstworldwar.com/source/espionageact.htm http://today-in-wwi.tumblr.com/post/161878079908/espionage-act-passed-emma-goldman-arrested Great War Project Looking over at Europe - we have a running theme for this week, 100 years ago… A theme that is very well set up by our first guest this week We are joined by Mike shuster, former NPR correspondent and curator for the Great War Project blog. Mike - “Where ARE the Americans?” LINK:http://greatwarproject.org/2017/06/18/where-are-the-americans/ [Mike Shuster] Thank you Mike. That was Mike Shuster from the Great War Project blog. Let’s continue to explore the question of America’s preparations to enter the fray with some articles selected from the “Official Bulletin”, the government war gazette published by George Creel, America’s propaganda chief, under the orders of President Wilson. We are pulling from Volume 1 - Issues 33-38 We’ll begin with follow up on last week’s Liberty Loan bond stories. By Saturday of this week, the tally is in. [sound effect] Dateline Saturday June 23 Headline: “$3,035,226,850 IS SUBSCRIBED TO LIBERTY LOAN BY MORE THAN 4,000,000 MEN AND WOMEN OF U. S.; Success of this Undertaking, Says Secretary McAdoo, Constitutes An Eloquent Reply to Enemies Who Claimed Heart of America Was Not in the War!” That’s probably quite true - In the propaganda war - the fact that the liberty bond program raises 50% more than was offered is sure to be un-nerving to the Germans whose intelligence tells them that America is not enthusiastic or prepared to enter the war. With the ramp up funding for America’s war effort off and running, the government is stimulated into bold thinking. [sound effect] Dateline Monday June 18, 1917 Headline: GREAT U. S. AIR FLEET URGED BY SECRETARY BAKER; MAY TURN TIDE OF WAR FOR HER ALLIES Secretary of War Baker states: "We can train thousands of aviators and build thousands of machines without interfering in the slightest with the plans for building up our armies and for supplying the allies with food and munitions. To train and equip our armies and send them abroad will take time, however, and in the meanwhile we can be devoted to this most important service with vast quantities of productive machinery and skilled labor. [sound effect] Dateline: Friday June 22, 1917 Headline: U.S. AIRCRAFT BOARD PLANS TO CLEAR AIR OF GERMAN FLYERS In this story - Howard Coffin, the chairman of the aircraft production board comments on a report that Germany plans to bring 3,500 airplanes into the fighting line in the spring of 1918 Coffin believes that the report is probably accurate - going on to state that 3,500 planes next spring might well prove discouraging to the allies. The French and British alone MIGHT (maybe) hold their own against Germany's output. Coffins goes on to state: “Pitted against America's added resources, properly organized, the situation immediately changes. No matter what desperate efforts she makes, it will be a physical Impossibility for Germany to increase her present rate of output to any dangerous extent. If we can carry through our program to produce the thousands of machines planned, the permanent supremacy of the allies in the air is assured. [sound effect] Dateline: Friday June 22, 1917 Headline: CONTRACT FOR NEW FLYING FIELD IN ILLINOIS AWARDED The story reads: The Signal Corps to-day announced the letting of the contract for the fourth new Government flying fields, to be built at Belleville, IL., 23 miles from East St. Louis. It will be a standard, two-squadron field, accommodating 300 student fliers, with the requisite number of officers, instructors, mechanics, and enlisted men, and providing hangers for 72 training planes. Construction of the buildings and the preparation of the field will begin immediately. That’s just focusing on a small slice of the effort - airplanes We did not even touch on the 16 major army training camps or “cantonements” also being built - as one article explains: “It is like building a city with a population of 40,000 from the ground up in weeks.” Meanwhile there is the production of trucks, food, munitions, draft animals, lumber, clothing, shipping and internal infrastructure - this is creating a challenge and an economic boom unlike anything the country has experienced. Link: ww1cc.org/bulletin War in the Sky: For our Great War In the Sky segment… We are going back to the fighting front. This week 100 years ago, introduces - [aside] actually “formalizes” - a new German air strategy. Earlier in 1917, it becomes apparent to the German High Command that they will always be outnumbered in air operations over the Western Front. The average Jagdstaffeln or German fighter squadron - could only muster some six or eight aircraft in total for a patrol, and would often face one Allied formation - after another. In order to maintain some impact and “local” command of the air the german fighter wings began - unofficially at first - to fly in larger, composite groups. a new concept in German air strategy. This week, 100 years ago the Germany’s Army Air Force brings together four fighter squadrons – Jastas 4, 6, 10, and 11 – to form Germany's Jagd-geschwader eins or better known as JD1 - their first fighter wing. Manfred von Richthofen - the Red Baron - is promoted from commanding officer of Jasta 11 to the commander of JD1. This unit becomes known as the "Flying Circus," thanks to the colorful paint schemes on its aircraft - It’s also often called “Richhoven’s Circus” and some claim it is so named because the entire wing moves from place to place for its operations like a traveling circus. We put a link in the podcast notes that leads to pictures of this colorful german flying force that came together 100 years ago this week in the great war in the sky. Commission News We’ll start with some news from the WW1 Centennial Commission and the 100 Cities / 100 Memorials program. This initiative is a $200,000 matching grant challenge to rescue ailing WW1 memorials and the deadline for grant applications was last week. We received a number of requests from potential participants for a short extension because some projects just needed a few more days to pull all the pieces together - The projects can involve many parties including city and county bureaus, American Legion posts, VFW posts, DAR chapters, local historical societies and boards and more. So in a meeting of the program’s executive committee, we decided to extends the submission deadline until midnight - July 10. Also - that means that anyone who already submitted their application can update any of the files submitted - by simply contacting the program management and requesting that their submission be made editable. All that is available at ww1cc.org/100memorials. 100 Cities / 100 Memorials project profile We have a guest with us today who knows all about how these projects come together. Courtland Jindra has been working on a 100 Cities / 100 Memorials project in Los Angeles - the Victory Memorial Grove project, near Dodger Stadium. Welcome Courtland! Courtland - really briefly - can you give us an overview of the project? [courtland reply] A few weeks ago, you had a cleanup event where you brought a bunch of the stakeholders together for some hands-on time - tell us about that. [courtland reply] You held a re-dedication ceremony on Flag day didn’t you? [courtland reply] That was Courtland Jindra - a citizen historian, a long time WW1 commemoration advocate and importantly - the co-director of the managing board for the California WW1 Centennial Commission. Check out U.S. National WW1 Centennial Events Register for things happening in your area, and while you are there, you’ll find a big red button there so you can submit your own upcoming events - making them part of the national archival record of the WW1 centennial - go to ww1cc.org/events or follow the links in the podcast notes. link:http://www.mnhs.org/event/2399 ww1cc.org/events Lafayette, we are here: And if you happen to be in Paris this coming week - we invite you to join The American Battle Monuments Commission at the Cimetière de Picpus for a ceremony in memory of General John J. Pershing's visit to the grave site of the Marquis de Lafayette. The visit was profound 100 years ago - as it honored the deep ties between the two nations. Lafayette, you may remember, was a key connection with France during the revolutionary war against the British. As Pershing came to the resting place of the french general - It is said that he announced. “Lafayette - We are here!”. Turns out that that’s not actually true. - On the occasion Pershing only made some brief remarks - It was the general’s “designated orator,” Colonel C. E. Stanton. Quote: “What we have of blood and treasure are yours,” Stanton intoned. “In the presence of the illustrious dead, we pledge our hearts and our honor in carrying the war to a successful conclusion.” And then the final line of his speech: “Lafayette, we are here!” This from the pages of “Black Jack: The Life and Times of John J. Pershing by Frank E. Vandiver. Back to the event - Representatives of the ABMC, the French government and American government will lay a wreath at Lafayette's grave, in recognition of both Pershing's visit in 1917 and the Marquis's own work in cementing the relationship between the two nations from the -seventeen seventies - to his death in 1834. link:http://www.worldwar1centennial.org/index.php/commemorate/event-map-system/eventdetail/5033/100th-anniversary-of-pershing-s-visit-to-lafayette-s-grave.html Education National History Day WW1 Award Winners A few week ago we were joined by Dr. Cathy Gorn, executive director of National History Day introducing us to their amazing organization and upcoming national event. For our education section - we are pleased to report that Caleb O’Mara, Janelyn Geronimo, Julianne Viernes, and Melissa Takahashi won The World War I History Prizes at the national finals of National History Day. WW1 Centennial Commissioner Dr. Libby O’Connell was on hand in to congratulate these wonderful kids and give them the special award we sponsored. Caleb, a senior student at Keene High School in Keene New Hampshire, was awarded this prize for his paper titled "Eugene Debs and the Fight for Free Speech" - This ties directly into our story today about the first amendment oppression that came with the espionage and Sedition acts. Debs spent 10 years in prison for his opposition to the war - and Caleb’s paper explores the issue. Janelyn Geronimo, Julianne Viernes, and Melissa Takahashi are Middle-Schoolers at Waipahu Intermediate School, on Oahu, in Hawaii. They created a Junior Group Exhibit called "Dada: A Major Modern Art Movement" which won them this award. The beginnings of Dada correspond to the outbreak of World War I. Art is often political and for the Dadaists the birth of the movement was a protest against imperialist, nationalist and colonialist interests, which many Dadaists believed was the root cause of the war. These special World War I History awards are sponsored by The U.S. World War I Centennial Commission, and were given in recognition of excellence in the study of World War I and its impact, nationally, internationally and of course as these kids pointed out - socially. We’d like to congratulate these students for their outstanding work, and we thank National History Day for all they do - to bring the study of history to life for our kids! Your are awesome. link:https://www.facebook.com/ww1centennial/posts/791000247741942:0 http://nhd.org/winners Updates From The States Battleship Texas Leaks Now for our updates from the states. From Texas - we have an update on last week’s story about flooding aboard the USS Texas. The battleship USS Texas, ONE - of only two - US Navy combat ships remaining intact from World War I, had a scare last week. Leaks forced closure of the museum ship - as she began to sink and list - Emergency repairs and fast action stopped the flooding. She is watertight once more, and the 103 year-old ship is again welcoming visitors aboard. On view at the Guildhall Art Gallery in London is, “Echoes Across the Century”. The show was created by artist and set designer Jane Churchill. Her influence can be seen in the huge wooden structure that weaves its way between the rooms, creating a trench system which houses the artwork made by local artists and over 240 students. The show focuses on the human impact of the First World War by combining personal stories from the war with the interpretations of modern day children. It’s totally immersive, totally unique and very powerful. The “sky” of the installation is full of planes, and cases of paper moths line the walls, acting as a memorial to those who died at the Front. Apothecaries’ cabinets, tobacco tins and cooks’ matchboxes contain war torn landscapes in miniature, and collaborative collages depict scenes from the trenches. See the wonderful images from the exhibit and learn more about it by following the links in the podcast notes. The University of California, Santa Barbara recently launched a new website for its Cylinder Audio Archive that features over 10,000 cylinder recordings — all available to download or to stream online for free. Before MP3s, before CDs, before cassettes and even before vinyl records …When Thomas Edison first invented the ability to record and play back sound, it was on cylinders. First made of tinfoil, then wax and plastic, cylinder recordings, commonly the size and shape of a soda can, were the first commercially produced sound recordings in the decades around the turn of the 20th century.” UCSB has digitized a wonderful collection of these - giving us a real insight into what people heard as they listened to the very influential songs and popular music during WW1. We’ve included a link in the podcast notes that leads you directly to that collection so you can take a listen for yourself. More than 2,000 cylinders still await digitization. UCSB has launched the “Adopt a Cylinder” program, which allows you to make donations toward cylinders - that will then be prioritized for digitization. Learn more by following the link in the podcast notes. I personally own a Edison Cylinder player and have a couple of boxes of cylinders - Now I know what to do with them. It’s a great discussion of “truth in filmmaking”, of the role of entertainment in education and of Wonder Woman in general. That aside - What caught our attention was that WW1 is being discussed in Popular Mechanics, that Wonder Woman, much like the video game Battlefield 1, is inspiring conversation about WW1 among and between people who previously had forgotten the war - because after all - it IS the war the changed the world!!. Read the article by visiting Popular Mechanics at the link provided in the podcast notes, but beware of spoilers if you have not seen the movie! link:http://www.popularmechanics.com/culture/movies/a26769/world-war-i-poison-gas-wonder-woman/ http://www.worldwar1centennial.org/index.php/communicate/press-media/wwi-centennial-news/2606-the-real-story-of-wwi-poison-gas-in-wonder-woman.html Articles and Posts Capt. Miller In our Articles and Posts where we explore the World War One Centennial Commission’s rapidly growing website at ww1cc.org - This week in the ww1cc.org/news section is the story of Capt James E Miller, one of the first aviators in the U.S. military and the first U.S. aviation casualty in World War I. Captain Miller was named recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross recently, more than 99 years after his heroic actions over France in 1918. On the 242nd birthday of the U.S. Army, which was June 14th, Miller's great-grandson, Byron Derringer was presented with the Captain’s Distinguished Flying Cross. According to Samuel Orlando, Chesapeake Bay Regional Coordinator at NOA “Mallows Bay is the richest marine heritage site in the United States,”. “In addition to being reflective of America’s emergence as a naval superpower during World War I, the Ghost Fleet provides the structure for a unique marine ecosystem.” Read about how the industrial complex and economy that grew out of World War I led to the fleet’s demise by visiting ww1cc.org/news. I never knew about this site - but having seen the picture - it’s on my list of places to go see on the east coast. It looks amazing. link:http://www.worldwar1centennial.org/index.php/communicate/press-media/wwi-centennial-news/2610-the-history-of-the-ghost-fleet-of-mallows-bay.html WWrite Blog In our WWRITE blog, which explores WWI’s Influence on contemporary writing and scholarship, this week's post is: "Echoes of Sassoon: A Conversation with Matti Friedman". The post is written by Brian Castner, co-editor of The Road Ahead - author of - All the Ways We Kill and Die - and the book - The Long Walk. Castner also wrote the foreword for David Chrisinger's book, See Me for Who I Am… Which we featured last week…. In this post, Castner interviews award-winning author and journalist, Matti Friedman, who is both Israeli and Canadian. He wrote and they discuss his memoir, Pumpkinflowers. As Friedman and Castner point out, more Canadian soldiers died in the Great War than in any other conflict, and its influence can be felt throughout Pumpkinflowers. This puts Friedman at odds with many contemporary American veteran-authors, who often reach to other conflicts for comparison when writing about their wars. —Vietnam for Iraq, and Korea for Afghanistan, Don't miss this fascinating post about how and why WWI would color a Canadian’s view of a very different war in Middle East at ww1cc.org/w-w-r-i-t-e and if WW1’s Influence on contemporary writing and scholarship is of particular interest to you - sign up for the blog at the same link.
