POPULARITY
They're out to get me, Slackers! In this episode, we explore the rise, fall, and enduring legacy of Guns N' Roses, one of rock's most iconic bands. From their formation in 1985 to the release of Appetite for Destruction, we cover their breakthrough into superstardom and the cultural shift they sparked. We delve into key moments, including lineup changes, controversies, and their influence on hard rock and popular culture. We also examine their lasting impact, from the sleazy early days on the Sunset Strip, their unraveling due to the trappings of sudden fame, to their 2016 reunion tour, and discuss how Guns N' Roses reshaped rock music while inspiring generations of musicians. And, let's face it, “Rocket Queen” absolutely rules!
We're talking nonfiction in this bonus featurette crafted entirely by Season 4 Production Intern Major LeGoullon. Major shines a spotlight on Guns N' Roses bassist Duff McKagan's 2012 autobiography, ‘It's So Easy: And Other Lies', drawing connections to Rock is Lit Season 2, Episode 18. That earlier episode featured Melissa Ragsly discussing her short story collection, ‘We Know This Will All Disappear', including the Guns N' Roses-inspired story "Mannequin," which references their song “Rocket Queen.” The episode also included a deep dive into Guns N' Roses, especially “Rocket Queen,” with Decibel Geek podcast co-host AAron Camaro. Major's thoughtful commentary offers a fresh perspective on music and literature and Duff McKagan. Post Appetite For Destruction, Guns N' Roses embodied the word “dysfunction." As the band prepared for their follow up release, singer Axl Rose was losing a very public battle with the press while heroin and alcohol threatened to completely derail the band. Axl's “recovered memories” continued to fuel his erratic behavior and thus he continued to drive his band closer and closer to the edge. It all came to a head in St. Louis at the infamous Riverport Riot. This episode was originally published on March 17, 2020. Hello, Lit listeners. As you know, Rock is Lit is a podcast about rock novels. Well, in this episode, we're going rogue. Melissa Ragsly is here to talk about the music-related stories in her short story collection, ‘We Know This Will All Disappear'. We'll be name dropping folks like The Beatles, Metallica, FTD, Patti Smith, and Guns N Roses. Speaking of Guns N Roses, their song “Rocket Queen” is a major motif in the story “Mannequin,” so AAron Camaro, co-host of the Decibel Geek podcast, another proud member of the Pantheon Podcast Network, joins me in the last segment to do a deep dive into that song. FYI: AAron's is the voice behind that “Rock is Lit!” shout out in the intro and outro of the podcast. Make sure you stick around to hear more from AAron. Take me down to the Paradise City where the grass is green and the Fire and Water Records guys talk about one of the most influential and controversial rock bands of all time, GUNS N' ROSES. Neil Daly welcomes his brother Ryan Daly as well as returning guests Chris Zegunis and Omar Uddin to discuss the history and legacy of GNR; from the slow-burn monstrous success of their debut album Appetite for Destruction, to their on- and off-stage problems with the law and basic social decorum; to the chart-topping MTV dominating twin Use Your Illusion albums to the band's dissolution in the face of Axl Roses' ever-growing megalomania; finally to the post-GNR success of Hall of Fame guitarist Slash, and the reunion tour that was never supposed to happen. Where does Guns N' Roses rank among the all-time great rock bands? Will they ever record another album together? Does this once all-powerful group even matter anymore? And what the hell happened to Tom Panarese after the Van Halen podcast?!! Tune in and find out! Listen to the FWR Guns N' Roses playlist on Spotify. Post Appetite For Destruction, Guns N’ Roses defined the word “dysfunction”. As the band prepared for their follow up release, singer Axl Rose was losing a very public battle with the press while heroin and alcohol threatened to completely derail the band. Axl’s “recovered memories” continued to fuel his erratic behavior and thus he continued to drive his band closer and closer to the edge. It all came to a head in St. Louis at the infamous “Riverport Riot”. Learn more about your ad-choices at https://news.iheart.com/podcast-advertisers

This week, I find the truth behind the legends of backward songs from Led Zeppelin & The Beatles, some steamy Guns N Roses, Hendrix on LSD and Marilyn Manson's ribs. I also review the new album from The Chris Robinson Brotherhood.
Joy to the world – ett nytt avsnitt har kommit! In the aftermath of the financial collapse, big investors are returning to some market fundamentals -- abandoning flimsy derivatives for tried and true physical assets. One of the concrete investments investors are eyeing is infrastructure. Specifically, renewable energy infrastructure. The renewable energy market is poised to explode in the coming years, and is already booming in countries like China, Brazil and Germany. And investors are eager to tap into it. Although a price on carbon -- which would give renewables the punctuated equilibrium needed to free up investment dollars and scale up new energy sources in the U.S. -- is currently on the back burner, the renewable energy market hasn't stalled out. It's not even slowing down. In this episode, Bill Green, Managing Director of Macquarie Capital's renewable infrastructure investing team, explains the world of renewable energy infrastructure and makes the business case for why scaling up the physical infrastructure for renewable energy is a good bet for investors even in the absence of an immediate price on carbon. [Music: Mr. Lif, "Ol' Crew" from Superrappin Vol. 2 Instrumental (Groove Attack, 2004); Guns and Roses, "Rocket Queen" from Appetite for Destruction (Geffen, 1987)]
