Send us a Text Message. We are excited to host Marine Corps veteran, Eric Infanti. By all accounts, Eric had a smooth transition into the corporate world, where he worked for 5 years. When his health began declining, Eric began a healing journey that included 2000 hours of yoga teacher and meditation training. He earned a dual master's degree in Buddhist psychology and Ayurvedic medicine and is now a PhD candidate with the study on the role of extreme peak flow states on resilience and professional outcomes. When Eric first transitioned from the military, he was able to use his experience and the education he received while serving in the Marine Corps to land a role in IT. After taking time off to heal, Eric knew he needed to upskill and learn current IT best practices. He sought out low cost or free programs to gain new certifications. He utilized the Veteran Rapid Retraining Assistance Program (VRRAP), ACT Now Education and Boots to Books.Eric went from running marathons to not being able to move in a short amount of time. After visiting close to a dozen doctors without getting a diagnosis, he went to a naturopathic physician who diagnosed him with late-stage Lyme disease. Eric dove into the world of alternative health and found that yoga relieved his symptoms. From yoga, he dove deeper into Ayurvedic medicine, ancient texts and meditation. It was on the plane coming back from a 2008 trip to India where he started writing his first book, Marine on the Mat. Eric continued a career in alternative health until the COVID-19 pandemic. The pandemic had a negative impact on his healing business, and Eric knew he needed to shift back into IT. He relied on his network and found mentors that helped him find a role within the IT community that fit his personality. Today he is the UX/UI Design Manager for Combined Arms, a nonprofit dedicated to veterans' well-being. Eric uses both his healing background and IT knowledge in his design work. He manages his stress through spiritual practices and finds his creativity from the still space of his meditations. He has written 12 books on subjects relating to alternative health and UX design. One of the core values to every veteran is their resiliency – the ability to handle whatever comes their way. Eric encourages veterans to not give up. You can choose how you manage the stresses of life. Some choose alcohol, rage or video games to cope with their stress. Eric chose athleticism and taking care of his inner self through breathing and meditation. For people who haven't been practicing self-care and find themselves in an acute situation, Eric advises them to stop and take a break, start a healing practice and seek medical and psychological help if needed. Breath work meditation is simple, effective and can be done anywhere. Subscribe to our YouTube channel at https://tinyurl.com/llforvets22Connect with Eric at https://www.linkedin.com/in/ericinfanti/Explore Eric's books at  https://www.amazon.com/stores/author/B001KHHN4S Download the AAFMAA transition timeline at AAFMA, the American Armed Forces Mutual Aid Association is the longest-standing nonprofit association offering life insurance, wealth management, mortgages, survivor assistance and more. This episode looks at how the lessons learnt in the victories of 1918 with Combined Arms were forgotten in the interwar period.  Robert discusses the impact of the desire to avoid another Second World War, the resistance to creating an Expeditionary Army for continental Europe, the economy for the Great Depression and the lack of a Grand Strategy and Endstate led to a British Army that struggled for the first two years of the Second World War. The Challenge of the Gospel Mike O'Dowd - Pt 1 We all love a good story. And one of the all-time great story tellers was Jesus. Amen!  He almost always told his stories, called “parables,” in order to leave a memorable thought with his listeners. Well, our guest today is the same way. He loves to tell stories in order to make his point. Mike O'Dowd spent 24 years as a pilot in the Air Force, flying combat missions across seven deployments from 1985-2010. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for Valor in Combat. Today, he serves as the pastor of Leptondale Bible Church. In addition, he is a published author, with his debut novel, "The Gospel: A Redemption and Restoration Story." Pastor Michael uses the power of story to lead his readers through the epic message of good news beginning in Genesis (where it all started).  He continues all the way to Revelation, where this amazing story ends and, as the Bible says, “All things become new.” Amen! This book, “The Gospel: A Redemption and Restoration Story” describes doctrinal truth in story form, where God is the hero, and we are being saved. This book will help pastors and congregants alike, to understand the biblical details that saves us – and keeps us saved. Amen!  Praise God. Help me welcome to the program, Pastor Michael O'Dowd!  Pastor, it is a blessing to have you on the program today! I do appreciate your time! Let me just start here…you were an A-10 pilot in Louisiana. Let me guess – Barksdale AFB in Alexandria? I bet you had some mission runs out at the Peason Ridge area? Correct? I was a Cavalry officer stationed there up until 1989, when I left service. But I loved the Wart Hogs. We did Combined Arms live fire all the time with the A-10's. You're motivation to seek God started, or coalesced at least, on your trip from the states to Saudi Arabia flying the A-10 through a thunderstorm. Share that experience with us and what happened once you arrived? As we discuss your book, “The Gospel: A Redemption and Restoration Story,”  I want to ask you, first of all, “Why” did you write this book? But why this book now? You are focused having churches embrace the “Great Commission.” Now, yes, it does involved getting people born again… but the command portion is to “go and make disciples,” which is the next step after getting them saved. Folks, we may never be called upon to fly an A-10 in combat as Pastor Mike O'Dowd did starting out – but we are called be witnesses for Jesus which is what he's doing now! Amen! Just like Pastor Mike, we have our own back story. It is different from everyone around you. But yet, our end story should be the same! Amen!  We need to witness for Jesus. We need to make disciples for Jesus! Pastor Mike's book, “The Gospel: A Redemption and Restoration Story,” will help you to fulfill your end story! Amen! Drop down into the show notes and click the links right there! Order your copy of this great book. In fact, order two or three copies and pass them out to your friends – especially if you are in the ministry! Amen!  Buy a copy for your pastor, too! I know he will appreciate it. Amen!

The Swedish campaigns in Central Europe in the Thirty Years' War are remembered in folklore for their brutality, for massacres of civilians and ‘scorched earth' tactics. And yet, as their leader, King Gustavus II Adolphus of Sweden (1594 – 1632) is remembered almost as a saint, even in these very same regions. King Gustavus Adolphus, an experienced military commander who had already fought and won wars against the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and Denmark, intervened in the Thirty Years' War like a force of nature – a ‘Lion from Midnight'. He was the champion of the Protestant cause, fighting the Catholic Habsburgs and their followers. In a series of huge moves, his armies swept through the Holy Roman Empire, winning battles at Frankfurt/Oder, Werben, Breitenfeld, Rain on the River Lech, and, finally, Lützen – but this last Swedish victory cost him his life. Professor Gunnar Åselius explains the paradox: Gustavus Adolphus prided himself on his military reforms and the discipline he kept among his soldiers, but even they would turn to pillage and murder to feed themselves when they were not paid. Holding degrees from the universities of Uppsala and Stockholm, Professor Åselius teaches Military History at the Swedish Defence University.

Rebecca Burgess will discuss the impact of the Constitution on spiritedness and the unique role of soldiers and citizens to defend it. This event is sponsored by the Jack Miller Center. About the Lecture: Soldier-Citizens and Citizen-Soldiers: Spiritedness and the Constitution - The Founding generation was famously concerned about the dangers to liberty that a standing army could pose. Less well remembered is how that generation's general ambivalence about professional soldiers along with the government's inability to pay them resulted in soldiers besieging Congress in Philadelphia's Independence Hall, demanding redress. Congress fled to Princeton. But the “Pennsylvania Mutiny” resulted in long-lasting effects for both the nation's civilians and military: It showcased significant cracks in the Articles of Confederation government, helping set in motion the Constitutional Convention and the inclusion of a constitutional provision for Congress to support federal armies and a navy. Later on, Alexis de Tocqueville would observe that “it is through the soldiers above all that one can pride oneself on having a democratic army pervaded by the love of freedom and respect for rights that one was able to inspire in the people themselves.” This lecture will consider the ties between the US military and the Constitution, and the mutual contributions of soldiers and citizens to defend their Constitution. How To Train A Military

You must train for war fighting: anything else is a waste of resources. The British Army has been given a clear mission by its chief. Mobilise for a potential fight against Russia in Europe. Soon. Peter talks to Major General Chris Barry, Director Land Warfare Centre in Warminster and it is clear that there is no going back to BAOR processes and procedures: The future of military training is building the ability to be successful in a 21stCentury combined arms battle. Necessarily that includes pretty much every element of an army from logistics, engineers, MPs, and medics, to armoured infantry, aviation, and artillery. And the change depends on many variable factors that have been changed irrecoverably by a myriad of small decisions implemented since the 1990s. Thus, this change is coming from the bottom up – not only wary of history, but also of observations from contemporary conflict, and cognisant of some technology that is available now. Given the mission, waiting for the arrival of big-ticket items (tanks, IFVs, arty, drones, et al) just won't work: that recapitalisation will not have arrived in the given the timeline. So, training a force that is fit to fight (that includes the basics of wearing helmets, signature management, and practiced at digging trenches and foxholes), must get the force to a baseline (mission zero) and add value above that. CTTP is clearly a critical part of that: a keystone that will radically change the gearing of what LWC can deliver. Delaying the decision on CTTP simply doesn't help national security.

Poland is an outlier in Europe: a state that has been willing to resource the national security statements of political leaders made in 2022, and cognisant of observations about high intensity combat being seen in Ukraine after the latest Russian invasion. Unlike other European capitals, Warsaw has funded a recapitalisation of its military based on a philosophy that puts aside a promsied future of military nirvana, replacing it with a pragmatic approach towards the good enough. Sound contracting for specific items, mainly from the US and South Korea, has ordered an impressive list of equipment, with additional equipment being lined up - all with a keen eye on the soverign benefit of onshoring production. And the contrast to the modest plans of Germany, France or the UK is stark. Yesterday I had the pleasure to talk to Jakub Knopp, a young researcher who has recently published an excellent article on this topic. Jakub was also cautious in his assessment of the costs of these acquisitions over the next decade. It was a pragmatic and revealing insight into the differences between Poland and their geographic neighbour, Germany.

This episode features an interview with John Boerstler, Chief Experience Officer at the U.S. Department of Veterans' Affairs.  In this episode, John talks about improving trust ratings, journey mapping, and reaching underserved communities.Quotes“If we're going to create this world-class customer experience for our veterans and their families, caregivers, and survivors, then we also have to make sure that we provide a world-class employee experience for 400,000 men and women that serve here in the VA everyday.” “If we think just not only along the lines of age, race and ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender in general, we have to design for all of these different customer types to ensure that some of the most underserved veterans and their families are out or are engaged and retained as customers and that they choose VA for their care and benefits so that we can fulfill our sacred oath and our commitment to them.”“The United States military creates the largest number of displaced workers every year. 250,000 young men and women leave active service. And they move from Virginia to Texas or California to Missouri or Missouri to Florida and the professional and personal networks that they have at their duty station that do not translate to the communities that they return to. And so they have a difficult time finding work and finding a new social or that unit mentality, that social net social network, so to speak that we have in the military, that comradery that we so miss. And that can lead to negative health and economic outcomes. So how can we be on the front end of that transition, improve it, negative health and economic outcomes by wrapping our arms around these individuals and their families at that point of transition and then at the same time deliver a delightful customer experience?”Time Stamps*[4:09] Shifting to human-centered design*[6:05] The sacred duty to serve Veterans*[7:15] How the VA has improved trust ratings by 23%*[10:26] Leveraging tech to give more Veterans access to services*[12:50] The birth of the Veterans Experience Officer and the first journey map*[16:54] The core values of the VA in CX*[18:46] Using data to increase access and improve outcomes for Veterans*[20:47] Meeting the unique challenges of Veterans after active service*[24:14] Learning to meet the needs of LGBTQ and BIPOC Veterans*[27:31] Measuring the effectiveness of CX initiatives*[31:58] Meeting Veterans at their point of transition to civilian life*[32:33] Addressing mental health needs among Veterans*[39:00] Owning the momentBioJohn is a native Texan who served honorably in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1999-2007 as a non-commissioned officer and infantry unit leader, including one combat tour in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from 2004-2005 and Operation Natural Fire in the Republic of Kenya in 2006. This event is part of the 10th Annual Kościuszko Chair Spring Symposium in honor of Lady Blanka Rosenstiel sponsored by the Kościuszko Chair of Polish Studies and the Center for Intermarium Studies. About the lecture: The Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth's small armies, based around a seemingly outmoded form of heavy cavalry, Winged Hussars, were able to hold their own against numerically superior foes, including those using tactics and weapons designed specifically to defeat such cavalry for more than two hundred years. This lecture discusses how armies of the Commonwealth and their commanders successfully used a combination of troops and tactics to “shape the battlefield” and overcome superior enemy forces time and again. About the speaker: Dr. John Radzilowski has taught history, art history, and geography at University of Alaska Southeast on the Ketchikan campus since 2007. Prior to moving to Alaska, he taught history courses at the University of St. Thomas, Hamline University, and Anoka-Ramsey College in Minnesota. Dr. Radzilowski also served as assistant project director at Center for Nations in Transition, at the Hubert H. Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota where he helped design and administer USAID and State Department-sponsored training programs for business, economics, and political science faculty and NGO leaders in Ukraine and east central Europe. Dr. Radzilowski's research and teaching interests are wide-ranging and diverse: immigration and ethnicity, military history, war and genocide, the impact of technology on the history and geography of the Great Plains and Midwest, local and regional studies, and the history of Poland, Russia, Ukraine, and central and eastern Europe.
