Sheriff Brian Patterson steps away from the badge and into the microphone full time as Sasquatch Odyssey explodes beyond anything he ever imagined. Part Five picks up with the podcast in full swing, and the witnesses are lining up from every corner of the South and beyond to finally tell the stories they have been carrying in silence for decades. It starts in the mountains of northeast Georgia with a seventy-three-year-old retired logger named Earl Hutchins, a man who kept his mouth shut for forty-five years about what stepped out of the timber near Clayton in the fall of nineteen seventy-eight. His story breaks something open. The emails start flooding in from across the region, and Patterson finds himself recording encounter after encounter from witnesses who never had anyone willing to listen. A retired schoolteacher from Ellijay describes the thing that came screaming out of the Chattahoochee National Forest and changed the way she felt about the woods forever. A fishing guide from Everglades City recounts the night a pair of glowing eyes tracked him across the water in the Ten Thousand Islands. A teenage girl in Oconee County, South Carolina watched something unfold from a rhododendron thicket while her daddy's bluetick hound shook itself half to death against her leg.The stories stretch across state lines and keep coming. Arkansas. Tennessee. Virginia. A coon hunter and his cousin tree something in the Ouachitas that no lantern light should ever have revealed. A family of four flees a Cherokee National Forest campsite at three in the morning. A state trooper on Skyline Drive watches something cross a two-lane highway in three strides and never tells a soul. Then the podcast goes national and the picture gets bigger. A Lummi Nation elder speaks of the Ts'emekwes his people have known for thousands of years. A woman in the Hocking Hills of Ohio locks eyes with something standing between the trees in broad daylight and never hikes again. From Louisiana to Alaska to Hawaii, the encounters pile up, and Patterson starts to understand that this is not a regional phenomenon. It is everywhere. When the show crosses international borders, the scope becomes staggering. A First Nations man from British Columbia reminds the world that his people gave us the word Sasquatch in the first place. A Russian researcher describes a shape moving through snow in the Pamir Mountains. An Australian prospector watches something vanish from a waterhole in the outback. Sherpas in Nepal, scientists in China, guides in the Amazon — every culture, every continent, every corner of the wild world has a name for what lives in the places humans do not go. But it is the deep encounters that change everything. A hospice nurse in rural Kentucky describes the night something appeared at her dying husband's window and hummed him into his final moment of peace. A lost hiker in the Gila Wilderness receives images in her mind that lead her back to safety. A former Army Ranger wakes paralyzed in the Big Thicket while something rifles through his thoughts like pages in a book. These are the stories that keep Patterson up at night and force him to ask whether these creatures are something far stranger and far more profound than anyone has been willing to consider. By the end of Part Five, Patterson is two years into full-time podcasting with over three hundred interviews behind him and patterns emerging from the noise. The creatures follow corridors. They move with the seasons. They choose when to be seen. And a small but undeniable percentage of encounters suggest something beyond biology, beyond what any scientific framework can currently explain. The podcast has crossed a million downloads. The community is growing. The world is slowly waking up. And somewhere out in the deep woods, something is watching back.Email BrianGet Our FREE NewsletterGet Brian's Books Leave Us A VoicemailVisit Our WebsiteBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/sasquatch-odyssey--4839697/support.
In this episode, Brian continues reading from his upcoming book The Sheriff of Bigfoot Country, picking up with Part Four as the story reaches a turning point that changes everything. The classified Mount St. Helens documents reveal the full scope of Project Vulcan, a secret government operation to recover the bodies of creatures killed in the 1980 eruption. Military teams moved in under the cover of legitimate rescue operations, extracting remains before civilian responders could find them.Medical reports describe three survivors, including one creature that lived for nearly three weeks before giving up and dying in a government facility. The autopsy findings are staggering, pointing to a species with cranial capacity far exceeding modern humans and brain structures suggesting complex language and abstract reasoning.Four witnesses who were there in 1980 finally break their silence. A county sheriff who watched them load bodies onto helicopters. A helicopter pilot who flew the remains to a facility in Nevada. A trauma surgeon who held the hand of a dying creature she called George. A Forest Service employee who saw a massive hand slip from beneath a tarp. Each one was threatened into silence for forty years. Each one is done carrying that weight. The documentary gets picked up by a major streaming platform, and then gets killed two weeks before air when shadowy forces pressure the network into pulling it. Brian and Amanda fight back by releasing everything online, piece by piece, and the response is overwhelming. Millions of views. Hundreds of new witnesses stepping forward. The cover-up begins to crumble. But being sheriff has become impossible. The county commissioners question Brian's sanity. The hate mail piles up alongside letters from grateful witnesses across the country. And on a rainy Tuesday night, Daniel suggests something that will change the course of Brian's life: a podcast. That conversation leads to the birth of Sasquatch Odyssey, and the beginning of a new chapter. This is where the badge meets a bigger calling, and Brian has to decide which fight matters most.Email BrianGet Our FREE NewsletterGet Brian's Books Leave Us A VoicemailVisit Our WebsiteBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/sasquatch-odyssey--4839697/support.
The odyssey reaches new heights as Brian Patterson shares some of the strangest and most profound encounters ever documented on the show. From a North Carolina camper who experienced unexplainable visions of an ancient forest to an Oregon mother whose lost daughter was safely returned by a gentle, hair-covered giant, these accounts push beyond simple sightings into territory that challenges everything we think we know about these creatures. The podcast also faces its greatest crisis when a retired biology professor's elaborate hoax nearly destroys everything Brian has built. The fallout is devastating, but with Daniel's unwavering support, Brian rebuilds stronger than ever with rigorous new verification procedures that earn the community's trust back. The story goes global as witnesses from Tibet, the Congo Basin, Papua New Guinea, and Siberia share encounters that mirror North American reports in stunning detail. A Lakota elder speaks of the Big Man as ancient guardians of the wild places. A Stanford primatologist risks her career to validate the evidence. And the Sasquatch Odyssey community grows into a worldwide network of researchers, witnesses, and believers united by shared experience. As the show hits its five hundredth episode, Brian finally tells his own story in full for the first time. But there's no time to rest. New thermal evidence and a late-night expedition deep into the backcountry deliver the most compelling footage yet captured. The men in black are watching again, the truth is spreading faster than anyone can contain it, and the odyssey is far from over.
In this episode, the journey takes a dramatic turn as Brian's podcasting career reaches new heights and dangerous new lows. What begins as a powerful collection of witness encounters from across the country — a conservation officer in Minnesota's Boundary Waters, a Mississippi fisherman on the Big Black River, a West Virginia coal miner who found something living deep underground, and a Cajun folk healer who speaks of the loup-garou with reverence rather than fear — quickly evolves into something far more consequential.A television producer named Amanda from Meridian Productions returns with an offer to bring Sasquatch Odyssey to the screen as a legitimate documentary series. Brian agrees, but only on his terms: editorial control, no sensationalism, and absolute respect for the witnesses. The production takes the team from the Olympic Peninsula to the Ozarks and back to the Pisgah National Forest, where the mystery of Austin Reeves still lingers in every shadow and hollow. But the closer Brian gets to the truth, the harder certain forces push back. A devastating act of arson destroys his home, his studio, and nearly everything he and Daniel have built together. The local investigation is a sham, but an ATF agent named Sarah Brown finds evidence of professional-grade incendiary devices and a cover-up that reaches far above her pay grade.Rather than retreat, Brian and Daniel rebuild — bigger, stronger, and more determined than ever. The episode also explores the emotional toll of this work through quieter moments: the frustration of sorting genuine encounters from fabrications, the patience required to find voices like eighty-two-year-old Lucille Marsh from rural Georgia, and the steady, grounding presence of Daniel through it all. From Wisconsin dairy farms to Nebraska sandhills, witnesses from the American heartland reveal that these creatures aren't just hiding in remote wilderness — they've adapted to live alongside us in the margins, watching from the edges of our everyday world. The documentary airs, reaches millions, and ignites a national conversation. The community grows. The threats continue. And the odyssey pushes forward, one story at a time.

What does it take to break a forty-year silence, and what does it cost to tell the truth when powerful forces have worked for decades to keep it buried? In Part Four of The Sheriff of Bigfoot Country, everything changes. An anonymous envelope left in the dead of night opens the door to a classified government operation tied to the 1980 eruption of Mount Saint Helens. What was recovered in the chaos wasn't human, and the documents reveal a truth far more disturbing than folklore ever suggested. Autopsies, survivor reports, and firsthand medical testimony point to intelligent beings hidden from the public under the cover of disaster response. As witnesses finally come forward—law enforcement, military pilots, medical professionals, and federal employees—the silence fractures.A documentary meant to expose the truth is shut down just weeks before release, confirming the reach of those determined to keep these secrets hidden. But the internet changes the rules, and once the story escapes, it can't be contained. As the world begins to listen, new voices emerge, decades of fear dissolve, and a movement is born. What began as an investigation becomes a reckoning, and the path forward leads to something bigger than one man, one mountain, or one secret. This is the moment the dam breaks, the truth finds its voice, and the journey that becomes Sasquatch Odyssey truly begins.
Welcome back to Sasquatch Odyssey. Tonight, we conclude The Bigfoot Journals. Seven men walked out of the hidden valley in November of seventeen ninety-nine. They carried knowledge that would haunt them for the rest of their lives... and a secret they swore never to reveal. In this final installment, we follow the Stone Expedition on their three-month winter journey home. We witness the debate that consumed them... publish or protect? We hear the oath sworn at Thornton's Tavern in Richmond, where seven survivors bound themselves to silence. And we learn what became of them all.Thomas Mercer, the scientist who died bitter in eighteen twenty-six, still regretting the discovery he could never publish. Sam Walker, who returned to the mountains he loved and passed peacefully in eighteen twenty-three. Josiah Whitfield, who found peace somewhere beyond the Mississippi. Solomon Reed, who carried his grandmother's wisdom north. Jim Sutton, whose last words were about the creatures.Young Zeke Stone, forever changed by his connection with the juvenile, gone by eighteen twenty. And Elijah Stone himself... who built a cabin in the Virginia mountains and watched the forest every night for twenty-seven years. We'll read his final journal entry, written on July fourth, eighteen twenty-six. The fiftieth anniversary of American independence. The day he passed the burden to his son. The chain of keepers had begun. Then we jump forward. Two centuries forward. To Marcus Stone, a history professor who inherits his estranged father's cabin... and discovers a trunk in the cellar that changes everything. The journals. The pendant. The truth. And finally, we witness what happens when Marcus leads a small expedition into the mountains. When the creatures reveal themselves once more. When the gesture of peace is given... and returned. This is the story of secrets that span generations. Of truths too dangerous to share. Of a family that watched and waited, keeper after keeper, century after century. And somewhere in those mountains... the creatures are still watching. They've always been watching. They always will be.Get Our FREE NewsletterGet Brian's Books Leave Us A VoicemailVisit Our WebsiteBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/sasquatch-odyssey--4839697/support.
In this gripping episode of Sasquatch Odyssey, Fred from Alaska shares two unforgettable encounters from the remote Alaskan backcountry—stories that still stand among my all-time favorites. The first takes us to the Savage River, where Douglas from Anchorage joins a search effort for the missing Mary Wilson. What begins as a somber mission quickly turns unsettling as unexplained sounds echo through the wilderness and Douglas comes face-to-face with something massive, silent, and unmistakably watching him from the shadows. The second encounter unfolds on the Yna River during what was supposed to be a routine trout fishing trip with Chris, Doug, and Fred. The calm of the river is shattered when rocks begin raining down from the treeline, their canoe mysteriously vanishes, and blood-curdling screams erupt in the darkness. Forced into a desperate overnight escape, the men realize they're being stalked by something intelligent, elusive, and terrifyingly persistent.Get Our FREE NewsletterGet Brian's Books Leave Us A VoicemailVisit Our WebsiteSupport Our SponsorsBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/sasquatch-odyssey--4839697/support.
Tonight we're doing something a little different here on Sasquatch Odyssey. We're setting aside the witness interviews and the evidence analysis and the investigative reports, and instead we're gathering around the fire to tell a story the old fashioned way. This is a Christmas tale about a young Sasquatch named Thorn who has spent the autumn watching a human family from the treeline above their mountain cabin. He's fascinated by their laughter, their warmth, their strange rituals of carving pumpkins and roasting marshmallows and dragging trees inside their homes to cover them with lights. His kind has always kept their distance from humans, but something about this family calls to him in ways he doesn't quite understand. On Christmas Eve, when the teenage daughter Emma leaves a plate of cookies on the porch railing and looks up toward the treeline with a knowing smile, everything changes. Thorn makes a decision that will alter the course of his life and theirs. What follows is a journey through a blizzard, an impossible winter rose, a lost little boy named Jacob who followed what he thought were Santa's footprints into the storm, and a rescue that bridges the vast distance between two worlds that were never supposed to meet. Pour yourself something warm, dim the lights, and let the snow fall as we journey deep into the ancient Appalachian hills for a Christmas Eve you won't soon forget. It' s suitable for listeners of all ages and makes for perfect holiday listening with the whole family gathered close. From all of us here at Sasquatch Odyssey, we wish you a Christmas filled with magic, kindness, and the reminder that you are never truly alone. Keep your eyes on the treeline, friends. And maybe leave a little something on the porch tonight, just in case.Get Our FREE NewsletterGet Brian's Books Leave Us A VoicemailVisit Our WebsiteSupport Our SponsorsBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/sasquatch-odyssey--4839697/support.

This week on Sasquatch Odyssey, I'm joined by screenwriter and paranormal podcaster Richard Hatem — the mind behind the screenplay for The Mothman Prophecies and the host of Richard Hatem's Paranormal Bookshelf. Richard and I first crossed paths back in September at the Mothman Festival in Point Pleasant, West Virginia, and I've been excited to get him on the mic ever since. In our conversation, Richard takes us inside his first-ever Mothman Festival experience — the energy, the people, and the strange pull Point Pleasant has on anyone who's even remotely fascinated by the unknown. From there, we dive deep into the making of The Mothman Prophecies: what inspired his approach, how he balanced real-world lore with cinematic storytelling, and the emotional undercurrent he wanted the film to carry. Richard shares what it was like shaping a story that lives in the space between dread, wonder, and grief — and why Mothman remains one of the most haunting and compelling American paranormal legends. We also zoom out into the bigger picture: the strange intersections between Mothman, Bigfoot, UFOs, high strangeness, and the broader paranormal tapestry. Richard offers thoughtful insight into how these phenomena echo each other, why certain stories endure, and what our fascination with the unknown might say about us as human beings. Finally, Richard talks about his show Paranormal Bookshelf and his love for the stories that hide in dusty corners of folklore, eyewitness encounters, and forgotten history — reminding us that the best paranormal discussions aren't just about proving something exists… they're about what these mysteries awaken inside us.If you're into Mothman lore, Bigfoot encounters, or the deeper “why” behind paranormal obsession, this one's for you.Richard Hatem's Paranormal BookshelfGet Our FREE NewsletterGet Brian's Books Leave Us A VoicemailVisit Our WebsiteSupport Our SponsorsBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/sasquatch-odyssey--4839697/support.

Have you ever wondered about the true story behind the first Thanksgiving?Happy Thanksgiving from Sasquatch Odyssey. For this special holiday episode, the show steps away from its usual encounter reports and witness interviews to share something different: an original work of fiction that reimagines one of America's most iconic moments. What if the first Thanksgiving wasn't just a meeting between two peoples, but three? What if the Wampanoag arrived at the 1621 harvest celebration with a guest the colonists agreed to protect and keep hidden—an agreement passed quietly through generations for more than four hundred years? This episode tells the story of Yahyel, a Sasquatch elder who reveals himself to William Bradford and the Plymouth colonists, offering ancient wisdom, urgent warnings, and a promise that stretches across centuries. The narrative follows the descendants of that first feast as they safeguard the secret through revolution, expansion, war, and cultural change—carrying it from the earliest days of the colonies into the modern age of DNA databases, thermal drones, and digital discovery.Along the way, the story blends real historical touchstones with cryptid folklore, exploring themes of cooperation, respect for the land, and the responsibility to protect wild places that cannot protect themselves. To be clear: this is fiction. A holiday campfire story created to spark imagination, not to rewrite history. The episode makes no claim that these events occurred, and it is not presented as a factual account. But it invites a simple question: what if something like this could have been true? What if ancient promises still mattered, mysteries still lived in the deep forests, and beings older than human memory were quietly watching—waiting for the moment humanity was ready to meet them with respect instead of fear? Whether you're a true believer or a friendly skeptic, this Thanksgiving episode is meant to bring a little wonder to your holiday. May your plates be full, your company be warm, and your sense of mystery never fade.Get Our FREE NewsletterGet Brian's Books Leave Us A VoicemailVisit Our WebsiteSupport Our SponsorsBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/sasquatch-odyssey--4839697/support.
Welcome to this special collection episode of Sasquatch Odyssey, featuring six of the most compelling Bigfoot encounters I've documented across the Southeastern United States over the past five years. These stories span sixty years of fear, awe, and unanswered questions, carrying us from Alabama's river bottoms to South Carolina's swamps, and showing why the South may be one of the last true sanctuaries for something we still don't understand. We open in the suffocating heat of Alabama in 1967, where a power company lineman working near the Cahaba River noticed something impossible: massive handprints sunk deep into a utility pole. Moments later, he found himself face to face with a towering presence that moved with purpose and intelligence. That encounter sets the tone for everything that follows—brief, terrifying interactions where the creature controls the moment, revealing itself only on its own terms. From there, we climb into the mountains of North Georgia in 1973, where four seasoned hunters discovered the woods had a hierarchy they didn't sit atop.Near Blue Ridge, their camp became the target of relentless intimidation—rocks crashing through darkness, trees shaking violently, and a chilling discovery at dawn: dozens of stick figures arranged in a perfect warning circle around them. The night didn't just scare them; it shattered friendships and ended their lives in the forest forever. The third account takes us into Tennessee's Great Smoky Mountains in 1985, where a park ranger and wildlife biologist experienced something that demolished her scientific certainty. While stationed in a fire tower, she watched a massive creature climb the structure and examine her equipment with unsettling curiosity, as if it understood what it was seeing. Even more disturbing was what she learned afterward—that similar encounters had been quietly documented for decades, tucked away and never meant for public eyes. The most heartbreaking story comes from the Ozark Mountains of Arkansas in 1991.A family camping trip turned into a nightmare when towering beings approached their site and demonstrated strength beyond anything human—crushing rocks in their hands while the family huddled in terror. A young girl watched it unfold, and the trauma that followed tore the family apart, leaving permanent scars long after the woods fell silent again. In 2002, deep in North Carolina's Pisgah National Forest, an experienced hiker found himself living through an encounter unlike any other in my files. He described three days in captivity with what appeared to be a family group of these beings, observing tool use, complex social behavior, and a kind of focused curiosity toward human objects. His story challenges the idea of Sasquatch as a solitary wilderness phantom and suggests something closer to culture—structured intelligence living beyond our reach. Our final encounter lands in South Carolina in 2014, when college biology students captured forty-three minutes of high-definition footage of a creature inspecting their research equipment with clear understanding of its purpose. What happened next was just as chilling as what they filmed: a rapid government response, confiscated evidence, and enforced silence that raises the question of how long this phenomenon has truly been known—and how actively it's been buried.Across six stories and six decades, the same threads surface again and again: the heavy, musky odor that announces their presence, the massive handprints left behind like signatures, and the unnerving sense of being watched by something that doesn't panic or flee—but evaluates. Most unsettling of all is the repeated realization that these creatures could harm us effortlessly, yet choose restraint instead. Witnesses don't describe a mere animal. They describe something hovering in a blurred space between human and beast, perfectly adapted to remain hidden while living alongside us. What emerges from these accounts is a portrait of the American South as a vast refuge for an undiscovered species—or perhaps a parallel branch of human evolution that chose isolation over contact. From Alabama's rivers to Tennessee's peaks and the deep wild of the Ozarks and Carolinas, these beings have claimed territories in the spaces we've ignored or forgotten. They watch from cover, occasionally stepping into view when a boundary is crossed, always vanishing before the mystery can be pinned down. They want you to know the woods are not empty, that something ancient and intelligent still moves through them, and that the old instinct to tread carefully in the dark may be rooted in more than superstition. As you listen, notice how the behavior of these creatures shifts over time, especially around human technology. Consider what it means that responses to evidence sometimes seem immediate and organized. And ask yourself what else might be sitting in classified files, protected by silence and dismissal. These aren't campfire tales or urban legends. They are documented encounters from credible witnesses whose lives were never the same afterward. The South keeps its secrets well, but every now and then—between darkness and dawn, between wilderness and civilization—those secrets step out just long enough to remind us how much we still don't know.Get Our FREE NewsletterGet Brian's Books Leave Us A VoicemailVisit Our WebsiteSupport Our SponsorsBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/sasquatch-odyssey--4839697/support.
Deep in the shadowed heart of Alaska's Copper River Valley, the wilderness holds more than silence—it remembers. In this chilling episode of Sasquatch Odyssey, the haunting folklore of Alaska comes alive through vivid accounts passed down by those who've lived closest to its mysteries. From the whispered warnings of elders to the trembling voices of witnesses, Killers in the Valley explores the eerie boundary between legend and lived experience. We journey through tales of monstrous “killer monkeys” stalking the riverbanks, and the Harrimen—dark, elusive figures said to roam the fog-laden forests where few dare to tread. But the most unnerving of all are the shape-shifters: sea otters that rise from the depths, transforming into towering, humanlike beings cloaked in shadow and dripping river water.Agatha, whose quiet day of berry picking turned into a nightmare of strange sounds and unseen watchers; of Ms. Carroll, whose property became a beacon for ghostly lights and inexplicable disturbances; and of William Williams, who faced a creature so horrifying it blurred the line between man, beast, and spirit. Each account carries the pulse of Alaska's untamed wilds—a reminder that isolation, fear, and ancient belief intertwine in the frozen frontier. These stories are more than folklore; they are fragments of memory, fear, and reverence for a land that is beautiful, merciless, and deeply haunted.Get Our FREE NewsletterGet Brian's Books Leave Us A VoicemailVisit Our WebsiteSupport Our SponsorsBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/sasquatch-odyssey--4839697/support.

In this fascinating episode of Sasquatch Odyssey, Brian welcomes Justin from Tennessee — Bigfoot researcher, conference speaker, and author of The Epic of Esau: The Birthright and Seed War — for an in-depth discussion on the connections between biblical history, ancient mythology, and modern Bigfoot encounters.Justin shares how his interest in Sasquatch began not in the woods, but in the Bible, where a passage referencing “hairy men” and “wild men of the wilderness” sparked his curiosity. That single verse led him on a journey through scripture, history, and legend, uncovering surprising links between the biblical Nephilim, Amalekites, and the mysterious beings we know today as Bigfoot. The conversation delves deep into Justin's research — from his experiences at the Smoky Mountain Bigfoot Conference to his comparative studies of ancient texts, apocryphal writings, and cross-cultural myths that describe giant or hairy beings with supernatural qualities. Together, Brian and Justin discuss the scientific challenges of studying Bigfoot, the academic resistance to cryptid research, and the divide within the Bigfoot community between those who see Sasquatch as purely physical versus those who believe it may also have spiritual or interdimensional aspects.Justin also discusses his book, The Epic of Esau, which combines biblical interpretation, mythological analysis, and anthropological theory to present a unique framework for understanding Bigfoot's origins — one that could bridge faith, science, and folklore. This episode is a must-listen for anyone intrigued by the possibility that ancient texts and sacred stories may hold forgotten truths about the Sasquatch phenomenon. Whether you lean toward science, spirituality, or both, this thought-provoking discussion will challenge what you thought you knew about Bigfoot — and human history itself. In this special remastered episode of Sasquatch Odyssey, we honor the late Dr. Jeff Meldrum — a man whose dedication, kindness, and scientific curiosity forever changed the way the world views Sasquatch research. There are some people who leave a mark so deep, so genuine, that their absence feels almost impossible to comprehend. For me, one of those people was Dr. Jeff Meldrum.I first met Jeff back in March of 2021, when I was just a fledgling podcaster trying to find my footing. He didn't have to say yes to being on my show — but he did. Graciously. Humbly. From that moment on, he set the tone for the kind of person I'd come to know him to be.Just a few short years later, I found myself standing beside him on stage, sharing the spotlight with Jeff, Cliff Barackman, and Michael Freeman at a conference in Idaho. It was surreal — the same man I had admired for years was now a colleague, a friend, and a mentor. The last time I saw Jeff was back at the end of July, at the Smoky Mountain Bigfoot Conference in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. We had just finished setting up our booths when I noticed Jeff sitting quietly off to the side. I carried over the plaster casts of the footprints from our property — as I'd done before — hoping to get his thoughts. We sat and talked for a while — about his upcoming retirement, about life, and about the things that still fascinated him most. He joked about trying to convince his wife, Lauren, that he needed more space at home to store his growing collection of casts since he'd be losing his massive lab space at the university.I laughed, but something felt different. Jeff still had that kindness in his eyes, that thoughtful way about him — but there was a quiet heaviness there too.Still, as always, he was generous with his time and his spirit.I had no idea it would be the last time I'd see him.Since his passing, I've watched as countless people have shared their memories and tributes — from students and colleagues to lifelong fans around the world.I didn't rush to do the same, because I needed time. Time to sit with the loss. Time to reflect on what Jeff meant to me, and to this community. So tonight, I want to honor him in the most fitting way I can think of — by going back to where it all began. What you're about to hear is our very first conversation — fully remastered from the original Sasquatch Odyssey interview that aired back in March of 2021.This is my way of saying thank you, Jeff. For your kindness. For your brilliance. And for the legacy you've left behind in the study of Sasquatch — and in the hearts of all of us who were lucky enough to know you.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/sasquatch-odyssey--4839697/support.

In this exclusive Pop Culture Edition of Sasquatch Odyssey, Dani dives headfirst into the world of comics to explore one of the most fascinating pop culture interpretations of Bigfoot: Marvel's Sasquatch. Created in the late 1970s, Marvel's Sasquatch isn't just a towering cryptid lurking in the woods—he's Dr. Walter Langkowski, a Canadian scientist whose experiments unlock a transformation into a massive, orange-furred creature with superhuman strength.A longtime member of Alpha Flight, Marvel's premier Canadian superhero team, Sasquatch has stood shoulder to shoulder with legends like Wolverine and the X-Men, bringing the folklore of Bigfoot into the heart of the Marvel Universe. In this episode, Dani paints a vivid picture of the character's design and evolution: the towering frame, the primal roar, the duality of man and beast. But more than just description, we dig into what this character means. How does Marvel's Sasquatch reflect our cultural fascination with cryptids? Why do we continually reimagine Bigfoot in new forms—from wilderness monster to sports mascot to superhero? Drawing on psychology and sociology, Dani explores how this superhero iteration taps into deeper human questions: the tension between science and myth, the fear and fascination of transformation, and the way folklore adapts to modern storytelling. By turning Bigfoot into a hero instead of a horror, Marvel redefined the cultural script, showing how the same legend can embody both primal terror and protective strength. And, in true Sasquatch Odyssey fashion, the episode also asks: how do these portrayals ripple back into the real world? Could repeated depictions of Sasquatch as noble or heroic actually shape how people process their own encounters in the wild? Finally, stick around until the end of the episode for a special surprise: Brian joins the conversation to share his take on Marvel's Sasquatch, and how he sees pop culture constantly influencing real-life beliefs about Bigfoot. This is an episode that blends comics, folklore, psychology, and the enduring mystery of the creature in the woods.Whether you're a Marvel fan, a Bigfoot believer, or just curious about how myths evolve, this Pop Culture Edition proves one thing: Sasquatch isn't just hiding in the forest—he's alive and well in the pages of our favorite comics.Get Our FREE NewsletterGet Brian's Books Leave Us A VoicemailVisit Our WebsiteSupport Our SponsorsBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/sasquatch-odyssey--4839697/support.

This week on The Guilty Files, things look a little different—but don't worry, we haven't lost the plot (just maybe our minds). In this raw and unfiltered bonus episode, Brian and Dani pull back the curtain and get real about the chaos, curveballs, and caffeine it takes to keep this podcast alive. With life throwing punches and production delays piling up, they're hitting pause on the usual case deep dives to share a heartfelt update, a few behind-the-scenes laughs, and some truly wild stories from their past lives in law enforcement. From Dani's unforgettable origin story as “Door Slam Dani” to Brian's ride-along from hell featuring the mayor's nephew, Yeezys, and an Instagram livestream gone horribly wrong, this episode is equal parts vulnerable and unhinged. It's also a love letter to the people who keep showing up—the listeners who've become part of the foundation as The Guilty Files grows brick by brick into something big. You'll also hear how the team juggles not one, but three major shows (including Sasquatch Odyssey and Disturbing History), and what it really takes to run a studio while still showing up to tell the stories that matter. Listen To Disturbing HistoryListen To Sasquatch Odyssey Listen To Backwoods Bigfoot Stories Plus, Brian and Dani lay out the updated release schedule and give a shout-out to the episodes you've been waiting for: the Gabby Petito and Gary Hilton deep dives, both landing this week. It's honest. It's chaotic. It's real. And it's a reminder that sometimes the best episodes are the ones where we show up not with all the answers, but with the truth—and a few disaster stories for good measure.Tune in, laugh with us, groan with us, and remember: we're all just doing our best. The case files are still coming. But today? We're letting it breathe.

Today we get into some of the most chilling and controversial tales in Sasquatch and cryptid lore. From the eerie disappearances in Portlock, Alaska, to the infamous Dyatlov Pass incident, we explore the darker side of these legends and the psychological phenomena that fuel our interpretations. The Portlock Alaska Mystery We start in the once-thriving town of Portlock, Alaska, where legends tell of a community driven to abandon their homes due to attacks by a hostile Sasquatch. We examine historical accounts, speak with experts to understand the socio-economic factors at play, and explore whether there's more to the story than mythic creatures. The Dyatlov Pass Tragedy Next, we travel to the snowy slopes of the Ural Mountains in Russia, where nine hikers tragically lost their lives under mysterious circumstances in 1959. Theories about their demise range from avalanches to military experiments, but some insist a Yeti was involved. We dissect the evidence and consider the plausibility of a cryptid encounter. Pareidolia and Sasquatch Research In our final segment, we revisit an experiment I recently conducted with a photo of a stump that many mistook for a Sasquatch. This discussion highlights how pareidolia—seeing faces and forms in mundane objects—can lead even the most earnest researchers astray. We'll talk about the importance of critical thinking and maintaining scientific integrity in cryptid research. Today's journey these chilling tales not only entertains but reminds us of the power of folklore and perception in shaping our understanding of the unknown. As we chase shadows in the wilderness, let's also shine a light on the facts and fictions that guide us.
