JEFF BRADSHAW continues to indulge in the celebration of the 20th Anniversary since the release of his first studio album. He recently gave fans a taste of "Jeff Bradshaw:20", with the release of two official singles from the project. The first offering was the smooth jazz-infused, "Carrie's Bread Puddin',". “Carrie's Bread Puddin”, is what Bradshaw calls a “southern church, hip-hop, D'Angelo swag” style song, honoring his mother's life and her famous bread pudding. “This song is dedicated to the most amazing person in the world! A church going, South Carolina raised, wife and mother of 3, who picked cotton, and beat all the odds because of her Love for God and family! Her famous Bread Pudding that I was raised on, that she still makes weekly for her church, is still as amazing as it was when I was A child!,” he shares. The second-course, is the Eric Roberson featured song, "Make Some Time ." “The song is inspired by people who hustle wanting to date people who hustle. We're all busy, but make sure you carve out some time for yourself. While you're at it, carve out some time for us.” adds Jeff. JEFF BRADSHAW is confident that listeners will still experience his music with the same unique sense of wonder as when they first heard him. “20 years man. It means to me, blessed, relevant, excited, young, and hungry. All those things I still am. excited about the music and excited for people to hear it. I'm still going to create these beautiful songs and the trombone is going to play a different role in every song,” he says. Jeff is currently gracing the cover of the summer issue of GROOV Magazine. I had the opportunity to interview one of the true legends in music, Ms. Angie Stone. We discussed her latest gem, "Love Language" which she compares to her classic 2001 Grammy nominated album "Mahogany Soul". In addition to discussing her upbringing in South Carolina, she also talks about almost quiting the music business and much more. Angie is a singer, MC, actress, self-taught keyboardist, and prolific songwriter, Angie Stone's first claim to fame was her membership in the Sequence, a pioneering hip-hop trio who arrived with "Funk You Up" (1979), the second release on Sugar Hill Records and the first rap single by an all-female group. Following a brief period with the post-new jack swing R&B act Vertical Hold, Stone began a fruitful and lasting solo career as one of neo-soul's leading lights, known for providing sharp insight into romantic relationships with her smoky yet upfront voice. She established her solo career with a pair of gold-certified albums, Black Diamond (1999) and Mahogany Soul (2001), and added to her accolades with Grammy nominations in the R&B field for "More Than a Woman" (2002), "U-Haul" (2004), and "Baby" (2007). Increasingly occupied with acting roles, she has continued to record every few years, exemplified by deeply soul-rooted LPs such as Rich Girl (2012), Dream (2015), and Full Circle (2019). The Ladies of SKYY have the distinction of being the last sister-trio still performing together in classic entertainment. Denise, Dolores and Bonné Dunning are the original female vocalists who provided the sensual signature sound of the R&B band SKYY. The sisters joined forces with Solomon Roberts, Jr. (producer, songwriter, drummer, guitarist), Anibal “Booche” Sierra (lead guitarist), and Gerald Lebon (bassist) in 1979. SKYY set themselves apart from other bands of that time with their space-age inspired costumes and a Brooklyn inspired sound. SKYY recorded ten albums and performed on several tours with A-list artists between 1979 and 1993 under Salsoul, Capitol and Atlantic Records. They appeared on numerous television shows, including Soul Train, American Bandstand, Showtime at the Apollo, Solid Gold and BET'S Video Soul with Donny Simpson. They also appear in a commercial for Schlitz Malt Liquor with the Drifters. Their music can be heard in the soundtracks of two movies, “Action Jackson” and “Beauty Shop.” Their biggest chart position was achieved in 1982 when the Salsoul Records album “SKYYLINE” was certified gold and reached #1 album status on the R&B charts and #18 on the Pop charts. SKYY's legacy was chronicled in their TVOne Unsung episode which aired on March 15, 2020, the day the world stood still. The show highlighted the group's top hits, Call Me, Start of a Romance, Let's Celebrate, Here's To You and Real Love, and was a sentimental reminder of the impact their career had on their fans during that magical musical era of the 80's and 90's. After SKYY recorded its final album in 1992, the sister-trio emerged as Ladies of SKYY. For over four decades, their dynamic vocals and captivating stage shows have upheld the legacy of the band's funky and infectious sound, keeping their music alive in the hearts and souls of their fans. These ladies have bridged the gap between generations of music lovers and their longevity has earned them their rightful place among the founding females of the disco, dance, soul, funk, hip hop and R&B musical genres. Salsoul Records will Re-Release of SKYY's Classic Album SkyyLine on January 20th 2023.    Salsoul Records recently launched the Disco Essentials vinyl series, re-introducing the classic hits from its catalogue of soul, disco, and funk artists that listeners grew to love from the 70s and 80s. Originally released in 1981, SkyyLine was the Brooklyn- based group's fourth album.  Hit singles include ‘Let's Celebrate,' ‘When You Touch Me,' and the mainstream success, ‘Call Me' (which came in at number one on the US Billboard Black Singles and number three on the US Billboard Hot Dance Music/Club Play charts).    The Ladies of SKYY believe that the re-release of the album, SkyyLine, will introduce a new audience to the Funk/ R & B sounds that have heavily influenced both club and hip-hop, bridging the gap between generations of music lovers. In celebration of this momentous occasion, the remaining original members of SKYY are set to unite for a reunion concert for one night only, produced by AKW Enterprises in New York City.  SkyyLine will be available January 20,2023 on a limited-edition purple fog vinyl with Salsoul Records obi-strip! Pre-orders will be available on Amazon and at Indie Stores across the USA.  “It is an honor and privilege to have the opportunity to re-introduce SKYY to the world and introduce SKYY and The Ladies of SKYY to a new generation.”- Austin Kwame Wilkinson, AKW Enterprises. Holocaust education has proliferated in the United States, along with a nationwide emphasis on anti-bias education. But recent years have also seen an undeniable rise in antisemitism. How did we get here? To find out, host Dara Horn rewinds back to the stunning success of Gentlemen's Agreement, a 1947 Oscar-winning Hollywood blockbuster in which Gregory Peck plays a journalist who poses as a Jew in order to expose American antisemitism. The movie's premise is hilariously blunt: People shouldn't hate Jews, because Jews are Just Like Us! Of course, this premise contains an unspoken compromise: If Jews aren't Just Like Us, hating them might actually be fine after all. To investigate this requirement that Jews erase their differences in order to deserve respect, we go back to a bizarre moment in 1806, when Napoleon convened an ancient rabbinic court to ensure that the Jews were sufficiently Just Like Us. In this bizarre Napoleonic game show and the spectacular gory failures that unspooled from it, we can begin to see the unarticulated limits of what we now think of as diversity—and to consider, in profound ways, how we might do better. Rachel Gordan's most recent work on Gentleman's Agreement, Laura Z. Hobson, and twentieth century American Jewish culture can be found here, here, and here. Jonathan Helfand's work on Jewish identity in France can be found here and here. For further background, see also Napoleon, the Jews, and the Sanhedrin and The Affair: The Case of Alfred Dreyfus. The Jewish community of Charlotte, North Carolina has been embarrassed by their city's monument honoring Judah Benjamin, the Confederacy's Jewish Secretary of State, ever since they were cajoled into paying for it back in 1948… and the 2020 racial justice protests finally accelerated their decades-long attempt to get rid of it. But Benjamin-- a brilliant lawyer, one of the first Jewish senators, a Supreme Court nominee, the “Brains of the Confederacy,” Caribbean-born, openly Jewish, and not-openly gay-- made people uncomfortable during his own lifetime. Even back then, he was impossible to get rid of.  Benjamin's meteoric career, and his outlandish escape from a victorious Union that wanted his head (he survived multiple shipwrecks and was helped along by a talking parrot), present a strange study in the evils of the past and the awkward role Jews played in it, especially when we look at other unlikely Jewish Civil War figures and the expectations non-Jewish leaders like Lincoln and Davis had of them. How did Jews position themselves as Americans, then and now-- and at what cost? James Traub's new biography of Judah Benjamin is Judah Benjamin: Counselor to the Confederacy. Previous Benjamin biographies include Judah P. Benjamin: The Jewish Confederate by Eli Evans, which provides the account shared in this episode of Benjamin's astonishing escape. Jonathan Sarna's works on the Civil War include Lincoln and the Jews, which features Sarna's research on Isachar Zacharie, and When General Grant Expelled the Jews. Asher Knight is the senior rabbi of Temple Beth El in Charlotte, North Carolina. Eric Wisnia is the rabbi emeritus of Congregation Beth Chaim in Princeton Junction, New Jersey. A fictionalized account of Judah Benjamin's life and the lives of other Civil War Jews can be found in Dara Horn's novel All Other Nights.  Dara Horn's new book, People Love Dead Jews, is published by WW Norton and is available wherever books are sold. Our stories so far have explored relationships between Jews and non-Jewish societies that have ranged from awkward to, well, murderous. But in this case, the social snubbing of Jews actually worked to everyone's advantage, resulting in the biggest historical discovery in the history of the world.  Here, two genius Scottish identical twins match wits with one half of a pair of genius Hasidic Romanian identical twins in order to track down some of the oldest existing manuscripts of the bible. They embark on an Indiana-Jones style adventure in 1890s Egypt, and wind up with much more than they bargained for: hundreds of thousands of centuries-old Hebrew manuscripts that are still changing the way we think about the past.  Horn also brings us to current-day attempts to preserve ancient Jewish sites in the most volatile parts of the Middle East, to uncover the rewards and perils of trying to preserve Jewish history. How do we decide what's worth saving?  Chrystie Sherman's photographs of the Eliyahu Hanavi-Jobar synagogue in Damascus are available in the online museum of Diarna. Janet Soskice's biography of Margaret Gibson and Agnes Lewis is The Sisters of Sinai. Ben Outhwaite directs the Taylor Schechter Genizah Research Unit. Marina Rustow's most recent book is The Lost Archive: Traces of a Caliphate in a Cairo Synagogue. More information about the Cairo Genizah is also available in Sacred Trash by Adina Hoffman and Peter Cole, Sacred Treasure by Mark Glickman, and A Jewish Archive from Old Cairo by Stefan Reif, as well as in the documentary film by Michelle Paymar, From Cairo to the Cloud. In this episode, Dara Horn revisits Steven Spielberg's blockbuster Holocaust movie Schindler's List, along with Spielberg's blockbuster dinosaur movie Jurassic Park-- which he worked on simultaneously, returning from the brutal Polish concentration camp set each evening to edit brutal velociraptor footage. Together these movies reveal many aspects of what we expect from Hollywood storytelling. What's the cost of applying that narrative arc to a story about the Holocaust? And what might be the moral motivations of a Tyrannosaurus Rex? Horn takes us through Spielberg's elaborate process (which involved building an entire concentration camp from scratch), revisits the film and its rapturous reception, and speaks with a historian, a film critic, and a filmmaker focused on Holocaust rescuers to parse out what the movie gets wrong and also what it gets right-- and why watching it today feels so painfully different from how it felt in 1993.  More information about Spielberg's experiences filming Schindler's List and editing Jurassic Park can be found in The Making of Schindler's List: Behind the Scenes of an Epic Film by Franciszek Palowski. Spielberg expresses some of his own thoughts about it 25 years later here.  Sara Horowitz's and Omer Bartov's essays detailing their responses to the film can be found in Spielberg's Holocaust: Critical Perspectives on Schindler's List, edited by Yosefa Loshitzky.  Pierre Sauvage's documentary film on the rescuers of Le Chambon in France is Weapons of the Spirit. His forthcoming documentary And Crown Thy Good: Varian Fry and the Refugee Crisis, Marseille 1940-1941, is a comprehensive look at the American rescuer. Join my conversation with Darrin Banks. Like many contemporary R&B artist, he started singing in his church choir at the age of 7. It was there he realized the overwhelming power of music and its capacity to emotionally affect the audience and performer alike. Banks continued singing throughout grade school and began taking private singing and piano lessons to hone his craft. During those formative years, he was fortunate to work professionally (acting, singing and dancing) in musicals and concerts at the Raleigh Memorial Theater (regional) and in various cabarets in the southeast as a soloist. He was selected for the State (4 times), Regional (4 times) and National (1 time) Honors Choruses of North Carolina. Singing choral music helped Banks fall in love with vocal harmonizing—a technique he prominently features in his current music, which allows him to simulate a multi-part choir across a wide octave-range with his own voice. Banks holds degrees from North Carolina School of the Arts, Marymount Manhattan College (BA) and recently completed the Independent Artists program at The Musicians Institute in Hollywood, CA. With a strong appreciation for jazz, funk and classic R&B, his music sits most comfortably in the contemporary R&B and electro-soul genres. Drawing inspiration from a wide spectrum of musical genres that include rock and folk, Banks’ music colors outside the lines of genre-boxes and pushing the boundaries of conventionality. Poetry that came out of the Harlem Renaissance written by Langston Hughes and the literary works of James Baldwin have greatly influenced Banks’ exploration of sexuality and cultural identity politics found in his music. A lover of contemporary dance, he credits studying it as being an invaluable teacher for understanding phraseology and movement in music. He names Erykah Badu and Joni Mitchell as his two biggest musical influences and ultimately approaches making music as a storyteller. Banks is due to release an EP in late 2021. Thematically, this new work will explore the universal challenges of the human condition, which include grappling with perfectionism, self-doubt, and persevering in the face of adversity. As an openly gay artist, Banks’ new music not only makes no apologies for this fact, but celebrates it. He hopes this will encourage others to live out loudly and proudly and further eradicate the shaming stigma that surrounds accepting different sexual orientations in our society. Whether he’s writing a ballad or an upbeat-dance track, you can count on Banks’ music being lyrically message-driven with catchy melodies that inspire movement.   Connect with Darrin Banks on online: http://www.darrinjonathanbanks.com Instagram.com/djbmakesmusic/ Buy 'What's Your Name' now on Amazon https://amzn.to/3dwQW3g   Check out our merch at our Soul Shop at Shop.bringbacksoulmusic.com For more information and news, check out our website and on social media: www.BringBackSoulMusic.com. Typifying the old saying "something in the water," singer/songwriter J. BROWN – though generationally removed from the Gordy company's then revolutionary melding of contemporary R&B and pop – has paid his dues and persevered in bringing those time proven musical values into the new music era with his recently released and, long-in-the-making solo debut EP. With music firmly in his blood and armed with tunnel-vision focus on following his passion of making music from the heart, J. BROWN delivers a dose of straight-up R&B – some with subtle pop and 90s throwback influences – to a music generation largely devoid of truly soulful and impassioned music.Connect with J.Brown Online:Instagram: @JBrownMusicOnlyTwitter: @JBrownMusicOnlyYouTube: Music By J.BrownWebsite: https://www.JBrownMusicOnly.com Listen to J.Brown latest single 'Vibe' on Spotify:https://open.spotify.com/track/6M2aVK2M2cj7ywBis4tkMH?si=ccd0c1f082ae4ef7 Check out our merch at our Soul Shop at Shop.bringbacksoulmusic.comFor more information and news, check out our website and on social media:www.BringBackSoulMusic.com. Hailing from Detroit, Kalysta is a twenty-one-year-old songstress that found her inspiration somewhere between the deep grooves of 'Motown' era Funk and Soul, the elegant class of the 'Big Band' era, and the passionate energy of Latin Pop; all those flavors delivered through her take on contemporary R&B, and a voice that can't be contained. Her skills at the microphone recently won her awards for Best Jazz Vocalist at the Alma Jazz Festival and 2020 Great Lakes Bay Region Review Music Awards, giving her the momentum to set tour dates across the Midwest. Using her talents to honor iconic women in music from Aretha Franklin to Alicia Keys, Kalysta seeks to unite the music world and bring people from all backgrounds together to find the joy they deserve. That philanthropist spirit is at the heart of Kalysta's work, aiming to provide resources and assistance for underprivileged children, veterans and the disabled; connecting those with access with those in need. With a message to send and a voice to deliver, Kalysta is revitalizing a soulful reflection of American music history, and her EP coming next year will tell that story. Detroit powerhouse vocalist, Kalysta, is bringing out her soul roots on this modern R&B single, "Can't Get Enough." This is Kalysta's first single of 2021, and follows her previous, Rock influenced single "Not Me" ,'Can't Get Enough' was made out to be a fun, upbeat song about being absolutely head-over-heels for somebody. Fling really adds the spice to the song as he is a talented lyricist, and came into the studio on a complete whim that day. As a result, magic happened and we created this song! I am so excited to share this feel-good song with everybody and I hope you can feel the magic too. From the Simplr studios in San Francisco, this is your weekly briefing.  IntroductionWith your E-Commerce Retail Briefing for today, Friday, October 4th, 2019, I'm Vincent Phamvan.UPS has hit a milestone in drone delivery. The shipping company has received the first broad approval from the FAA. UPS plans to start using the drone approval for package deliveries to hospital campuses.First, here are some retail headlines.Neiman Marcus Expanding Beautry Wellness CategoryNeiman Marcus is expanding its beauty wellness category. The luxury retailer launched the new Clean Beauty online shop, which is focused on an assortment of natural beauty products. The shop will be comprised of skincare, haircare, and nail care. Neiman Marcus is launching the new initiative just in time for the holiday season, where according to a survey, 45 percent of shoppers said they are more likely to do their holiday shopping with retailers that address wider social issues.  SoulCycle Shifting to Direct-to-ConsumerSoulCycle is continuing to shift into a direct-to-consumer brand. Earlier this year, the company created its first in-house product team and launched its apparel brand, Soul by SoulCycle. Now SoulCycle is rolling out three new initiatives to push further toward a direct-to-consumer retail model. The company is launching an affiliate program to leverage its instructors as influencers. They’re also one of a handful of brands testing Instagram’s product launch feature, and the company is relaunching its e-commerce platform under the new name of Soul Shop. While Soul by SoulCycle originally launched at Nordstrom and is still being sold there, the company’s focus going forward will be shifting toward direct-to-consumer retail.Bed Bath & Beyond Adding Experiences to Wedding Registry CategoriesBed Bath & Beyond announced that they have added experiences to its wedding registry categories. The retailer has partnered with wedding registry experience platform, VEBO, for the new program. Bed Bath & Beyond isn’t the first major retailer to use this tactic. Target partnered with Honeyfund in 2018 to add experiences to its registries. Adding experience-based gifts to the registry could be beneficial for the home retailer as consumer behavior continues to shift around the category. The brand director at Zola said that millennials, in particular, are spending more on their honeymoons.  Younger Consumer Want Brands Aligned with their ValuesYounger consumers are increasingly seeking brands that are aligned with their values. A 2018 survey found that 52 percent of millennials and 48 percent of Gen Xers feel it's important that their values align with brands they like. For retailers and brands, focusing on sustainability is not only crucial to protect the environment, but is a key way to win over younger consumers and drive long-term brand loyalty.UPS Hits Milestone In Drone DeliveryUPS has received the first broad federal approval for drone delivery. The shipping company applied for the Federal Aviation Administration's approval in July. The approval is a milestone in commercial drone delivery, with other companies like Amazon and Uber trying to add drones to their delivery fleet to cut costs and deliver goods faster. Wing is also planning to start trials of drone delivery with Walgreens and UPS rival, FedEx in Virginia this month. Unlike UPS’s broad certification, most test approvals are limited to small areas, with restrictions remaining about flights over densely populated areas. The Federal Aviation Administration’s broad approval gives UPS the ability to fly at night and out of sight of the operator. The approval will also allow the drones to carry items over 55 pounds. UPS plans to start using the approval for package delivery to hospitals but could expand to other campus environments and even homes.
