The news of Texas covered today includes:Our Lone Star story of the day: National and Texas Democrats have already overplayed their hand on Texas Congressional redistricting and the Lefty show has just raised its curtain. The truth is is opposite of this headline: Texas Republicans struggle to defend redistricting as hearings grow contentious. Almost all attendance was from the shock troops of the Leftist fringe of the Democrat Party. Those people, and many of the office holders, were so “nasty” to committee members that it has bolstered their desire to move aggressively with the redistricting effort.A new proposed map has been released and it could give Texas Republicans five more seats (Dems five fewer) in the U.S. House – sources say the maps were easy to draw. This past weekend, the former U.S. President, Donald Trump, officially extended his backing in the Republican primary for the 26th Congressional District of Texas, which covers a significant part of North Texas. After pronouncing his bid last month, Brandon Gill won the favor and subsequent endorsement of other considerable conservative figures, such as Troy Nehls (R-TX), Lauren Boebert (R-CO), and the youthful group of conservatives known as the Dallas Young Republicans. Following the prestigious endorsement by the foremost Republican presidential candidate, Gill expressed his gratitude and commitment. He stated, 'The endorsement by President Donald J. Trump for my congressional run in TX-26 is both deeply humbling and a tremendous honor. I pledge to both the citizens of TX-26 and President Trump that I will not disappoint you.' On the same day as his announcement, Gill received backing from Congressman Nehls. Praising Gill, Nehls highlighted: 'Brandon Gill is not just a friend, but someone I wholly trust to be a stout, fearless champion of our conservative values. I firmly believe in Brandon's commitment to securing the border and putting America First - he is the person we need to carry forward the MAGA movement in North Texas. I strongly recommend Brandon Gill and urge voters in the district to stand by him.' In addition to Nehls, Gill garnered support from the Dallas Young Republicans, one of the most accomplished Republican groups in Texas. The group applauded Gill's conservative principles, stating, 'Brandon Gill is a man of the people - a successful young father, husband, and man of faith with deep roots in rural Texas and a true believer in America First values.'See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Having gained two seats after the last census, Texas will now send 38 people to the House of Representatives in January, the second largest delegation after California. Because of redistricting, nearly every other seat is pretty safely in the red or blue column based on how voters decided between Trump and Biden two years ago. Republican Monica De LaCruz is a small business owner and insurance agent. She has a massive fundraising advantage. She's brought in nearly $4 million compared to Democrat Michelle Vallejo's $1.5 million. Democrat Michelle Vallejo is a grassroots and business leader. The outcomes of House races can be affected by campaigns at the top of the ticket, and the Texas governor's race versus Beto O'Rourke and Greg Abbott is a big one raging in Texas right now. Race is also a big factor in this all-Latina, woman versus woman election. Texas's 15th Congressional district is more than 80% Latino, and whatever happens in this Texas Congressional district will shape how many political observers understand the political power and preferences of Latino voters. We hear from Maria Teresa Kumar, CEO and Co-Founder of Voto Latino and Matthew Choi, Washington Correspondent for the Texas Tribune for more.

The battle for voting rights continues in Texas as the state adds two new congressional seats and redraws its congressional maps. Civil rights groups and democratic state lawmakers say the new congressional maps were drawn to dilute the vote of residents of color giving white and likely republican candidates an advantage. Meanwhile Texas republicans say the maps were drawn “blind to race.” Senate Republicans on Wednesday filibustered a bill which would have overhauled how congressional districts are drawn. The FBI believes it has recovered items belonging to Brian Laundrie as well as human remains in a Florida state park. Family of Laundrie are yet to comment as they await forensic identification of the found remains. The discovery comes 37 days after Laundrie, the fiancé of Gabby Petito, was reportedly last seen by his parents. To learn more about how CNN protects listener privacy, visit cnn.com/privacy
