Have you ever heard someone share the amazing benefits of reversing high blood pressure, autoimmune conditions, asthma, or even cancer through fasting? If not, you're about to! Today's guest, Dr. Alan Goldhamer, has chosen to meticulously document the remarkable scientific effects of the power of 'water only' fasting. In today's discussion, you'll hear how he believes in this mission so strongly that he established a medical fasting facility over 30 years ago, known as the "TrueNorth Health Center," a state-of-the-art facility in Southern California. There, he and his team oversee individuals with various medical conditions, guiding them through carefully monitored water-only fasts lasting anywhere from 2 weeks to 40 days. Dr. Goldhamer has several published scientific studies backing his work and findings; he's lectured at various universities and has co-authored the book "The Pleasure Trap: Mastering the Hidden Force that Undermines Health and Happiness." He is boldly passionate about health, utilizing nutritional medicine based on an exclusively whole plant food diet. To sum it up in my own words... He essentially gets to provide medical oversight while witnessing the body's power of reversing various conditions through fasting! Join us in this exceptionally powerful interview where Dr. Goldhamer not only shares his story, but also presents some of the miraculous testimonies of his patients, highlighting the POWER of water-only fasting. **Stay informed by SUBSCRIBING to the 'Know Better | Do Better' Newsletter. Unfortunately, losing weight and having healthier blood glucose levels isn't as simple as eating less and restricting calories. To make matters worse, fasting, although a popular method of weight loss and health, is a lot more complicated than not eating. In this we have experts such as Dr. Jason Fung, Dr. Alan Goldhamer, and Mike Mutzel sharing their insights and research on how to approach fasting for weight loss and improved metabolic health. Dr Jason Fung is a nephrologist and the co-founder of the Fasting Method program which has helped millions of people lose weight and reverse type 2 diabetes. Unlike many nephrologists, Dr Fung supports and encourages the education of diabetes and weight loss being possible through intermittent fasting. He's a NY Times bestselling author and respected voice on fasting, weight loss, nutrition, and type 2 diabetes. Dr. Alan Goldhamer is the founder of TrueNorth Health Center. His clinic focuses on healing patients through plant based vegan diets, and clinical fasting. Dr Goldhamer is also the author of The Pleasure Trap, Mastering the Hidden Force that Undermines Health & Happiness. Mike Mutzel is a functional medicine consultant in the natural product industry. He's obsessed with evidence-based natural medicine and is the author of the Bell Fat Effect. Mike is also the founder of High Intensity Health. QUOTES: “It's not just about the calories, it's about the hormones.” Dr. Jason Fung “You can't burn body fat if insulin is high.” Dr Jason “If you fast and exercise you actually lose more weight but more of it is lean tissue. If you fast and rest you mobilize predominantly fat and specifically visceral fat.” Dr Alan Goldhamer “Drinking too much water can flush your electrolytes out and result in water intoxication.” Dr. Alan Goldhamer “I'm not really concerned about fat loss as the best proxy for health.” Mike Mutzel “Have the carbohydrate commence with the activity.” Mike Mutzel Follow Jason Fung: Website: https://www.doctorjasonfung.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/drjasonfung/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/drjasonfung YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@drjasonfung Follow Dr. Alan Goldhamer: Website: https://www.healthpromoting.com/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/truenorthhealth Follow Mike Mutzel: Website: https://highintensityhealth.com/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/MikeMutzelMS Twitter: https://twitter.com/MikeMutzel Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/metabolic_mike/ Sponsors: Sign up for a one-dollar-per-month trial period at http://www.shopify.com/impact This episode is sponsored by BetterHelp. Training Without Conflict™ Podcast Episode Five: Dr. Doug Lisle & Dr. Jen Howk In this episode of the Training Without Conflict™ Podcast, Ivan Balabanov interviews two of his biggest inspirations, Dr. Doug Lisle and Dr. Jen Howk. Dr. Lisle and Dr. Howk are the hosts of the very popular https://beatyourgenes.org/ (Beat Your Genes Podcast). Dr. Doug Lisle received his undergraduate education from the University of California, San Diego (summa cum laude). He completed his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at the University of Virginia, where he was awarded the Presidents Fellowship and was a DuPont Scholar. He was then appointed Lecturer in Psychology at Stanford University, and worked on the research staff at the Department of Veterans Affairs at the National Center for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder in Palo Alto, California. His research and clinical interests have broadened to include health and wellness, self-esteem, relationship satisfaction, the treatment of anxiety disorders and depression, and optimizing achievement motivation. In addition to his work with Esteem Dynamics, he is currently the Director of Research for the TrueNorth Health Center and also serves as the psychologist for the McDougall Wellness Program, both located in Santa Rosa, California. Dr. Jen Howk earned her B.A. with honors from the University of Washington, and her M.A. and Ph.D. from Harvard University. Her academic research explores how state-society relations shape vulnerability, resilience, and social well-being. Her Ph.D. dissertation, “Too Dysfunctional to Govern: Trauma Capital and State Retreat in Rural Alaska,” explains how claims of historical and ongoing trauma, distress, and vulnerability in communities that lack alternative markers of status and success can become a stable source of social capital that paradoxically reinforces underdevelopment and inequality. Dr. Lisle and Dr. Howk are now in the process of co-authoring a book based on Dr. Lisle's new method of approaching human psychology and wellbeing. He describes this approach as Esteem Dynamics – its core insights adapted from a revolutionary biological approach to psychology. Central figures having major influence on Dr. Lisle's thinking include Richard Dawkins, John Tooby and Leda Cosmides, David Buss, Steven Pinker, and Geoffrey Miller. All of these individuals are considered academic A-list thinkers in evolutionary theory and human psychology. Somewhat surprisingly, insights from these trailblazers has yet to reach mainstream clinical psychology, and thus major advances stemming from some of the world's greatest thinkers have yet to be systematically applied to problems of helping people improve their lives. Esteem Dynamics is the first such effort – born of Dr. Lisle's 25-years of clinical experience wedded to the deep insights into human nature now available via evolutionary psychology. https://esteemdynamics.com/ (Check out Dr. Lisle and Jen Howk's Esteem Dynamics ) https://beatyourgenes.org/ (Check out the Beat Your Genes Podcast) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KExBC5ojnAE (Dr. Jen Howk's Podcast Howk Blocked Podcast) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jX2btaDOBK8 (Dr. Lisle's TedX Talk about The Pleasure Trap) https://amzn.to/3u3Q5f3 (Dr. Lisle's Book "The Pleasure Trap: Mastering the Hidden Force that Undermines Health & Happiness") Ivan Balabanov is a 2-time World Champion dog trainer, Ot Vitosha Malinois breeder, trainer of Premier Protection Dogs and founder of the revolutionary Training Without Conflict™ dog training system. In animal studies, fasting has been shown to extend longevity and protect against diabetes, cancer, heart disease, and neurodegeneration. In humans, fasting has been shown to reduce obesity, hypertension, diabetes, asthma, and rheumatoid arthritis. The British Medical Journal reported on a case where a 21-day fast, followed by an exclusively plant-food diet, free of added salt, oil, and sugar, resulted in the reversal of follicular lymphoma. A three year follow-up study, also published in the British Medical Journal shows no sign of cancer. In addition to its potential to delay aging and help prevent and manage diseases, employing fasting as a means of treatment may help patients avoid the untoward side effects often associated with other approaches. Visit website Dr. Alan Goldhamer, the founder of TrueNorth Health Center in California, is both a chiropractor and an osteopath. TrueNorth has done 20,000 water fasts in 36 years — 5 to 40 days on water alone. Dr Goldhamer is the co-author of The Pleasure Trap: Mastering the Hidden Force that Undermines Health & Happiness. Water fasting is an ancient practice because it’s so effective. It’s the wisdom of “doing nothing intelligently.” How does water fasting “reboot the body”? How long does the average patient stay on a fast? Do they exercise during fasting? What about Yoga? How does the body heal itself during fasting? What kind of diseases are healed? Are so-called “incurable” diseases healed? Do you need to fast even if you’re living healthfully? Are most diseases “conditions of dietary excess”? Is intermittent fasting as effective as longer-term fasting? What is autophagy? Why is this “self-devouring” process so important to water fasting? How does fasting intervention alter the five pounds of microbiome in an average human being? How does a contaminated microbiome cause high blood pressure? How are bowel movements affected during and after fasting? Is water fasting a good way to lose weight? What’s the difference between lean tissue fat and visceral fat, and why is it so important? Can dementia and Alzheimer’s be forestalled by exercise? Why is exercise contraindicated during water fasting? Where does fasting end and starvation begin? How does a therapist tell the difference? Do you continue to take pharmaceutical drugs and supplements during fasting? Does it depend on your present health? Is thyroid medication an exception to the rule? Are coffee enemas recommended? What about the Master Cleanse modified juice fast? Do you recommend acupuncture during fasting? What about chiropractic or osteopathic adjustments? What about saunas? What can water fasting do for thyroid health? Is overweight involved? Can a thin person fast as long as an overweight person? What is a plant-based SOS-Free Diet, and what diet does Dr. Goldhamer follow? How does psychological stress and sleep deprivation affect us? What causes cravings and binging? Why is terminating a fast so critical? What do you eat immediately after stopping? What are the long-term changes? Whole foods taste better after fasting. Is this a temporary effect? How do “non-healing wounds” heal after water fasting? How are “diseases that can’t be healed” healed? Why is this regarded by doctors who never actually healed anyone as “criminal quackery”? Dr. Goldhamer is interested in the “actual causes of death rather than disease management.” TrueNorth Health Center has a two-and-a-half-month waiting list. Why are prospective patients screened? Is water fasting for everyone? The goal is healthy life expectancy and avoiding debility. People don’t want to end up with their kids changing their diapers. Health results through healthful living. Fasting is not magic, just a tool.

Episode 4: In this episode, the host, Angie Gust, continues discussing John Travis’s 12 dimensions of wellness as a way to improve your own personal health and wellness. This episode focuses on eating and the benefits of a whole food plant-based diet. She also discusses food choices in terms of climate change. For instance, eating beef and lamb has a larger greenhouse gas impact than grain, fruits and vegetables. Several personal actions are suggested so that everyone can be part of the solution.
