DLWeekly Podcast - Disneyland News and Information

This week, Stitch has landed seemingly everywhere, a PhotoPass option has returned, music changes to the esplanade, construction continues around the resort, The Little Man of Disneyland goes on the road, we visit Producer James to play some games, and more! Please support the show if you can by going to https://www.dlweekly.net/support/. Check out all of our current partners and exclusive discounts at https://www.dlweekly.net/promos. News: With the new Lilo & Stitch movie debuting to record numbers, there is a bit more Stitch around than usual. A new Stitch sipper is available at the Galactic Grill for $25.99, which comes with a fountain drink of choice. New Magic Shots featuring Stitch photobombing you at the Main Entrance, and near Sleeping Beauty Castle. In Disney California Adventure, you can be photobombed on Buena Vista Street, the Cloud Wall on the Pixar Pier bridge, and near the waterfall by Grizzly Peak. Finally, there is a chalk mural by artist Pei Jun Tang in Downtown Disney. – https://www.micechat.com/416185-disneyland-update-parades-parties-patriotism-as-summer-starts/ Stitch isn't the only character at Disneyland that is new. Phineas and Pherb are meeting and greeting in the Hollywood Backlot. Agent P joins them on Saturdays only. This is part of the new season premiere on Disney+ and Disney Channel June 5th. – https://www.micechat.com/416185-disneyland-update-parades-parties-patriotism-as-summer-starts/ Last year a new PhotoPass experience premiered at the resort. PhotoPass Excursions are back again! The excursions are 8-15 minute private photo shoots with PhotoPass photographers in Adventureland, Frontierland, Main Street, and Fantasyland. Magic Key Holders with free PhotoPass, guests with Lightning Lane, or with the daily PhotoPass are able to take part. – https://www.micechat.com/416185-disneyland-update-parades-parties-patriotism-as-summer-starts/ Last week, we reported on the music box-style music in the esplanade to go along with the sculpture. This week, the slower music box music has been replaced with a mix of classic Disneyland music, and vocal tracks from the Disneyland 70th celebration. The music box music isn't completely gone though – it plays each night at 10pm as a post-fireworks “kiss goodnight.” – https://www.micechat.com/416185-disneyland-update-parades-parties-patriotism-as-summer-starts/ Even with the Disneyland 70th in nearly full swing, there are still some construction projects happening around the resort. Matterhorn Mountain is getting some pretty extensive track and rock work completed, the Enchanted Tiki Room, along with the Tiki Juice Bar are both behind walls for refurbishment. Mendocino Terrace in Disney California Adventure is still being worked on, while outside in Downtown Disney, Earl of Sandwich is coming along quickly now, and the old Tortilla Jo's is all but leveled. – https://www.micechat.com/416185-disneyland-update-parades-parties-patriotism-as-summer-starts/ The Little Man of Disneyland, Patrick Begorra, is setting off to another land in the park. Patrick is being celebrated at Club 33 with his own menu. He is going on a “Royal Adventure” to New Orleans Square where the menu features cocktails representing the five original lands. The Watchlight, and the Strawberry Streetcar for Main Street, Flights of Enchantment for Fantasyland, Amber Waves of Tea for Frontierland, Neverending Tomorrow for Tomorrowland, and Uncharted Nature for Adventureland. There are also some food options for each of the lands as part of the 70th celebration. All the details are linked in the show notes. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2025/05/23/secret-menu-alert-disney-fans-are-gonna-love-this-exclusive-new-addition/#more-1036451 For Memorial Day in the United States, Disneyland had a few ways to honor the people who gave their lives in service to the country. Tables have been setup around the resort for fallen soldiers, with an empty place setting, reminding guests of the soldiers who did not make it home. The Flag Retreat ceremony in Town Square was larger then usual to honor the day. The Navy's 32nd Street Brass Band performed at Disney California Adventure on the Hollywood Pictures Backlot stage last week to round out the holiday. – https://www.micechat.com/416185-disneyland-update-parades-parties-patriotism-as-summer-starts/ SnackChat: 13 banana bites (new treats added for Savannah Banana Day) – https://disneyparksblog.com/dlr/disney-eats-13-banana-bites-to-celebrate-savannah-bananas-at-disneyland/ Discussion Topic: Games with Producer James

In the spring of 2008, Amanda Merrow and Katie Baldwin met for the first time as apprentices at the Peconic Land Trust's Quail Hill Farm in Amagansett. Under the guidance of mentor Scott Chaskey, during their yearlong apprenticeship, they learned all the ins and outs of farming. A year later, Merrow and Baldwin leased a nearby plot of land from East Hampton Town and created their own farm — Amber Waves. Today, Amber Waves has a total of 35 tillable acres and in addition to growing crops, offers CSA membership and educational programming and operates a brick-and-mortar market. Amber Waves also employs 30 people on a year-round basis, and many more as seasonal help. This week, Amanda Merrow joins the editors to talk about the creation of Amber Waves and the importance of fostering the next generation of East End farmers.

After falling asleep through this one years ago, Dave's pick is to revisit and see what it's all about. Boogie Nights (1997), directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, was a bold and ambitious undertaking that captured the glitz, glamour, and excess of the 1970s adult film industry. Anderson, known for his meticulous attention to detail and immersive storytelling, meticulously researched the era to recreate the look and feel of the time period. From the costumes and set design to the music and cinematography, every aspect of the production was carefully crafted to immerse audiences in the world of adult entertainment. The film's ensemble cast, including Mark Wahlberg, Julianne Moore, Burt Reynolds, and Heather Graham, delivered powerhouse performances that brought depth and authenticity to their characters, from struggling actors to industry moguls. Additionally, Anderson's visionary direction and innovative storytelling techniques, such as long tracking shots and complex character dynamics, elevated "Boogie Nights" beyond its genre trappings, earning critical acclaim and multiple award nominations. Despite its provocative subject matter, "Boogie Nights" was a passion project for Anderson, who sought to explore themes of ambition, desire, and the pursuit of fame in the context of the adult film industry. The production faced challenges in securing financing and navigating censorship issues due to its explicit content, but Anderson's uncompromising vision ultimately prevailed. The film's success at the box office and critical acclaim solidified Anderson's reputation as one of the most visionary filmmakers of his generation and cemented "Boogie Nights" as a modern classic that continues to resonate with audiences for its bold storytelling and immersive portrayal of a bygone era. Under the mentorship of adult filmmaker Jack Horner, Dirk becomes a rising star alongside a colorful ensemble of characters, including Amber Waves, Rollergirl, and Reed Rothchild. As Dirk's fame and fortune grow, so do the excesses of drugs, greed, and hubris that threaten to unravel his life and the lives of those around him. thevhsstrikesback@gmail.com https://linktr.ee/vhsstrikesback --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thevhsstrikesback/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thevhsstrikesback/support

Roots go deep in today's show. Come with me to meet fifth-generation farmers, Taylor and Cassandra Sumption, the founders of Anthem Oats. The couple grows and packages premium, gluten-free oats for retail on nearly 400 acres near Frederick, South Dakota, 27 miles north of Aberdeen on US Highway 281, just seven miles south of the North Dakota border, and their packing and offices operation in Frederick.  Taylor's great, great grandpa homesteaded in the area in 1882 so Taylor and Cassandra are keeping the family agriculture business alive in what's now 142 years! They're focused on value-added agriculture and vertical integration to build their legacy-based, farm-to-table company—this means we can count of them for many years of delicious steel cut, old-fashioned, and quick oats and instant oatmeal cups and packets in flavors like vanilla chai, peach and cranberry, dark chocolate brownie, super fruit, pumpkin spice, and my personal favorite, maple pecan.  Learn more about their products and the family at anthem oats dot com. The photos and recipes that Cassandra shared with us for tiramisu-inspired overnight oats, energy balls, and her bacon cheeseburger meatloaf with secret sauce are on randomsweets.com.  Our guest, the delightful, intelligent, and intrepid Australian actor, writer, and producer Zac Garred picked the 1997 film “Boogie Nights”, written and directed by Paul Thomas Anderson and starring too many talented people to list here - seriously the cast list is insane. Zac is one of Devin's favorite humans, being her Australian brother from another mother. We look at Julianne Moore's role as Amber Waves, the matriarchal figure of the odd family of the characters in “Boogie Nights,” and happened to record this episode in the film's 25th anniversary year of 2022! The breadth of our conversation is vast, talking about “The Matrix” to “Ace Ventura" and our own love of filmmaking, to Aussie slang and other cross-cultural experiences growing up in the US versus Australia. Zac, being a history major at university, brings his own women in film fact to the table - the Australian trailblazing powerhouse Annette Kellerman, and we also learn about Erika Lust and Jacky St James who are feminist filmmakers in the porn industry today and how they're changing the game, as well as the first Chinese-American film star Anna May Wong. You can find Zac in a Netflix queue near you, starring in the action packed Australian sci-fi films Occupation and Occupation Rainfall, as well as many more projects to come this year - check out his newest film trailer “Bring Him to Me” with none other than Jurassic Park's Sam Neill! Some may recognize him from his villainous work on General Hospital as well. Check out his IMDb and find him on social media @zacgarred on Instagram and @ZJGarred on whatever they're calling Twitter these days.  (0:00) Introduction (07:52) Ice Breakers (22:13) Women in Film History (49:06) Boogie Nights Talk

Coming out strong with his debut single titled “Amber Waves of Piss”, we got the opportunity to sit and speak with the man behind the project, Ears With Eyes. From the mind of Ryan Havers comes his project Ears With Eyes that just unleashed a killer debut single, “Amber Waves of Piss”. For this Beacon, New York-based artist, he's delicately crafted an eclectic mix of musical genres for a song that covers important lyrical themes such as anti-gun worship, toxic masculinity, and plenty more. We spoke quite in-depth on the matter, but also got a peek into the recording process, what else is on the way, and much more. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/wewriteaboutmusic/support

Who's That Girl? A New Girl Podcast

This podcast covers New Girl Season 2, Episode 15, Cooler, which originally aired on January 29, 2013 and was written by Rebecca Addelman and directed by Max Winkler. Here's a quick recap of the episode:The guys determine they're all ready to have sex again and have a night out togther. However, Jess gets paranoid while she's home alone, and makes the guys come home early. She tries to show them she's not a “cooler” so they play their second on-screen game of True American, which leads to an exciting predicament for Jess and Nick shippers… We discuss Pop Culture References such as:Abu Nazir (Homeland) - During the game of True American, Schmidt calls out “Abu Nazir” who is a fictional character from the TV Show Homeland. Inspector Gadget - When trying to get Nick to kiss Jess, they encourage him to inspect her tonsils like Inspector Gadget. Additional Pop Culture References such as:Band of Brothers - When they guys see Holly at the bar, they confirm they're like the group from Band of Brothers. Band of Brothers is a dramatized account of "Easy Company", assigned to the United States Army's 101st Airborne Division during World War II. Gang related / Crips - Jess heard the sounds at the door and was worried it was gang related. She was also concerned about her blue curtains and whispered “Crips” when on the phone with Nick. The Crips are a gang based in the coastal regions of southern California whose members traditionally wear blue clothing. “I am not a crook” - During the True American game the loft calls out “I am not a crook”. Amid charges for the Watergate scandal, President Richard Nixon infamously said, "I am not a crook" during a press conference in Orlando, Florida. We also cover Schmidt's dismissal of Shivrang's “English” accent as our “Schmidtism” this episode as well as give Schmidt's dancing an honorary Schmidtism. In our “not in the 2020s” section we talk about how Schmidt makes light of Nick being sad. We also discuss how Cece “lying” for Schmidt so he can move on is a “yes in the 2020s” moment as well as how comfortable Sam was in his relationship with Jess. We also explore the careers of Brooklyn Decker (Holly), Sal Stowers (Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Girl), and Andree Vermeulen (Beth), the guest stars of this episode. Also in this episode were the following guest stars who we do not discuss in the podcast: David Walton (Sam - discussed on S2E3), M. Hasna M. (a movie-goer), Jocelyn Osorio (Andrea), Katie Wee (Palm Reading Girl), Brenda Song (Daisy), and Satya Bhabha (Shivrang).Additionally in the podcast we discuss how the beer that the loft is drinking is Heisler beer and mention a few other shows that also use this fake beer brand. We had also previously included links to find “instructions” on how to play True American on S1E20's show notes which can be found here. While not discussed in the podcast, we noted other references in this episode including:London Fog - Schmidt refers to Nick as London Fog, telling him he's “hot to trot”. London Fog is an American coat manufacturer known for making trench coats, raincoats, jackets, and parkas. London Fog was also a nightclub in the 1960 in Los Angeles and is a hot tea-based drink including Earl Grey tea, milk, and vanilla syrup.401(k) - When Nick is trying to convince Holly that Schmidt is happy he mentions that he has a 401(k) which is an employer-sponsored pension plan where employees can deposit into their retirement funds directly from their paycheck and is sometimes matched by their employers. There are two main kinds including an Individual Retirement Account (IRA) and tax exempt or EET.Throughout the game of True American, there were many historical and political references such as:Clinton - Bill Clinton was a former US president who was impeached after lying to a grand jury about his affair with Monica Lewinsky, who was at the time a White House intern.Joe Biden - Joseph Biden Jr. was born in 1942 and was elected the 46th President of the United States in 2021. Prior to his time as President he was also the Vice President of the United States and the Delaware Senator for 36 years, being sworn in just after he turned 30.Howard Dean Scream - Howard Dean is a retired American politician who was the Governor of Vermont from 1991 to 2003 and is also a physician, author, and lobbyist. When he was a Presidential Candidate in 2004, he lost the Iowa Caucus to John Kerry and while reassuring his supporters listed out the states he would win and screamed “Yeah!” which became popularly known after it was broadcasted over 600 times in the next 4 days.Hawley-Smoot Tariff - This is a United States tariff in 1930 that was passed to help American farmers by raising taxes on imports by up to 20%. The stock market did not react favorably to its passage and the timing coincides with the start of the Great Depression as the tariff raised prices that led to other countries having retaliatory tariffs on US goods as well.Mulligan - This is a golf term that means the second attempt after the first one didn't work. The earliest known use of the term is from 1931 in a daily newspaper in Detroit and most believe that the term came from a golfer with the last name Mulligan.Iron Curtain - This is the political and military barrier that the Soviet Union created after World War II to keep itself from the Western and non communist countries. Although it had been used sparingly since the 19th century, Winston Churchill, the British prime minister, used the term in a speech in 1946 which solidified the usage of the term.“Amber Waves of Grain” - This is a lyric from an American patriotic song called “America the Beautiful”  which refers to fields in the plains area where wheat (which is golden in color) is grown. The song was written by Katharine Lee Bates in 1893 and was set to music and officially titled “America the Beautiful” in 1910.Mason-Dixon Line - This was a line separating the borders of Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, and West Virginia which also was seen as the border between the North and the South during the American Civil War. It originated when Charles Mason and Jeremiah Dixon surveyed the land in the 1760s to solve a border dispute which had been going on for almost a century.Gettysburg - This was a battle during the American Civil War fought in July 1863 which is described as the war's turning point and involved the largest number of casualties in one battle in the entire war. It is also the location where President Lincoln gave his famous speech, the Gettysburg Address.Bull Run - This battle was the first major battle of the American Civil War in July 1861. This battle caused both sides to realize that this war was going to be much longer and bloodier than anticipated and highlighted many of the problems that were typical during the first year of the American Civil War.This episode got a 10/10 Rating from both Kritika and Kelly and we both had the same favorite character: Nick! Thanks for listening and stay tuned for Episode 16!Music: "Hotshot” by scottholmesmusic.comFollow us on Twitter, Instagram or email us at whosthatgirlpod@gmail.com!Website: https://smallscreenchatter.com/

About: Justin Olson began his music journey with the Violin at age 3 before joining the Phoenix Boys Choir at age 8 where he learned to sight read sheet music and was featured as a solo vocalist. Following his involvement with the Phoenix Boys Choir, Justin went on to play Saxophone in the Junior High School Band and began to learn the Guitar at the age of 12. During this same year, Justin acquired a 4-track tape recorder and began to record himself and write songs. Justin continued to write songs and make recordings through High school, where he joined his first band, which won the “battle of the bands,” and where he performed with the high School Choir. In College, Justin shared his songs in live performances and open mics. This was a great way to build confidence as a performer, and learn the satisfaction of sharing your creations with the world. As an artist, it is easy to become lost in your head and process, live performance is a very important tool to receive feedback and input that guides your creative output and can give you the needed confidence to share it with the world. After College, Justin began to play Performance Gigs around the state of Arizona including: Tempe Center for the Arts “ Singer Songwriters Showcase” in partnership with PBS, “Knock the Blues out of Hunger” Blues Festival, Glendale Folk Festival, Weekly “Fun Fridays” at the Tempe Center for the Arts and most recently, a live Eurorack Modular Performance at , “ Wireheads” in downtown Phoenix. In addition to various live Performances, Justin signed a Music Contract with Electric Lotus Music and Recorded his first Studio album titled, “Amber Waves.” In 2014, Justin began his journey into Synthesizers, Electronic Drums, Samplers and Drum Machines. Justin wanted to take a step out of his comfort zone and grow as an artist ; He was seeking new challenges and tools to make music. Justin explored many electronic music machines from Elektron, Korg, Moog, Dave Smith etc. In late 2014, Justin dove into Eurorack Modular synthesis. Justin was struck by the interface of blinking lights, cables and creating his own custom instrument. Eurorack synthesis is an amazing sound creation tool to learn the individual elements of a synthesizer and to become very efficient at signal flow and sound design. Since 2014, Justin has focused on creating musical projects, performances and albums on his Eurorack Modular. He has released 19 albums of music during this time-frame and has enjoyed the process of patching a song over hours to days and then performing it live and capturing the performance. Justin enjoys introducing people to Modular synthesis and being a knowledgeable resource to expose and bring students into the area of study and creation. His mission is to help guide newcomers through the vast market of gear, resource material and introducing them to basic skills that build on each other and provide a strong foundation to continue their very personal journey of building their own Modular instrument. Justin is currently a modular Synthesizer instructor at the Academy of Modern Music Production (AMMP) in Mesa, AZ. Selected Live Modular tracks from Justin Olson aka PTNA’s latest two albums “Shadow Bridge” and “Interwoven Apparitions.” Each track included in this set was performed and recorded live on his Modular Synthesizer between April and June 2019. The Profit of the Earth: The Global Seeds of American Agriculture (University of Chicago Press, 2017) examines the social and political history of how agricultural knowledge was created in the 19th century.  Over the course of the 19th century, rural America transformed into the familiar arrangement of large scale, mechanized mono-cropping for distant markets.  Nowhere was this more evident than in the Midwest, where the prairie, plowed into “Amber Waves of Grain,” came to signify all the promises of settler colonialism. The Profit of the Earth explains the creation of this arrangement by excavating the ways that farmers, settlers, and, bureaucrats learned about the earth and its possibilities as they sought a living, a profit, tax income, or national progress. In this way, Fullilove demonstrates that the advent of the American style of agriculture grew out of the co-optation and reworking of local forms of rural knowledge. Courtney Fullilove is an Associate Professor of History and affiliated faculty in the Science in Society Program and the College of the Environment at Wesleyan University. Lance C. Thurner is a doctoral candidate in History at Rutgers University, where he has recently defended his dissertation on race, medicine, and scientific exploration in 18th-century Mexico. In this episode of Drunk Ex-Pastors, Jason begins with a riddle for Christian, the answer to which Christian is not sure he agrees with (but then, neither do thousands of PhDs, but what do they know?). We dabble briefly in geopolitics once again, this time weighing the pros and cons of having more female world leaders (because as men, we feel it’s our place to opine on such matters), after which we take a call that causes Christian to ask Jason to hide his erection. We discuss the issue of how “Christian” America was intended to be on a scale of “Pretty Damn” to “Utterly and Completely.” Christian’s bieber has to do with sticky messes, while Jason is biebered by (wait for it) not enough technology.  Also, trust us: You always switch doors.

Another recent project is a feature film still in production, Thrill Ride. There’s a touching story behind the making of the movie and a gallery of photos of the scenes that Andy talked about.
