Before you roll your eyes at the title of this week's episode—we get it. Influencing, a career that's emerged over the past decade, offers it all: the ability to make lots of money, flexibility, travel, adoring followers and flashy brand deals. But we know we're not the first ones to tell you that it's not all it's cracked up to be. On today's emotional episode of Girlboss Radio, Avery is joined by two of her friends: Jillian Harris and Sarah Nicole Landry for an unedited glimpse at the realities of running successful businesses by leveraging your online persona. Jillian Harris got her start in restaurant design before becoming the first Canadian Bachelorette on reality TV. Sarah Nicole Landry blogged about motherhood as a divorced mom of three, before quitting her job in publishing to pursue content-creation full time. Today these women run multi-million dollar brands, employ staff and partner with the world's biggest companies. But there are downsides too: non-existent work-life-balance, time away from kids and husbands, near-constant online scrutiny of everything they do. "Sometimes I wonder why I'm still doing this," says Jillian Harris at one point in the convo. This is not your typical influencer chat. But we think you'll be glad you tuned in. https://www.perfectlyimperfect.wtf/shineBody image and weight loss seem to be in the forefront of so many women's minds. I recently received a message from a follower querying my messaging about body image and weight loss, noticing that I had personally changed my body. I had to respond because I never want women to think they need a DIET to live. In this episode I get real about ME and my passion for women loving themselves right where they are. Living in the NOW rather than waiting for a specific size or weight to love yourself. Diet culture builds a distrust with our personal beings. What started as a weight loss journey for me became a transformation to deep trust and self-love. If it worked for me, I knew it had to work for others. For the past two years I have been working with women around this issue in individual and group coaching. Their transformation, enthusiasm, and connection made me realize that MORE WOMEN NEED THIS! Episode 13. Just as this episode is coming out a day later than originally intended, it fits the theme of what is discussed! The collective energy this week has been about things not going according to plan - but I encourage you to notice what else exists in the change. When we can surrender up the ideas of what we want things to look like and focus on what we want things to feel like, the universe conspires in your favour to support that. Little intuitive nuggets are left along the way and for me, the lightness they bring from the joy that I feel is what has fast tracked so many turnovers to occur. The flow found in the energy of play creates synapses in the brain faster than forcing. I heard this through a podcast I listened to about the solar plexus, supported through tuning forks and affirmations, here's the link if you wish to listen to it yourself, it's by Love Hertz. I also referenced Sara Landry of The Birds Papaya when talking about making the right decision and expanding it to making A right decision. The card decks I used to support this episode were The Shaman's Dream Oracle by Alberto Villoldo & Colette Baron-Reid and The Starseed Oracle by Rebecca Campbell & Danielle Noel. I had a lot of fun bringing this episode through for you, I hope you enjoy. Please reach out if you have stories of intuitive connections or something in this podcast that spoke to you, I love to chat! Until next Wednesday (if all goes according to plan

TW: Eating disorders, weight loss, diet culture Episode 159: "Self-love is not a feeling, it's an action.” On today's episode, Natalie's guest dreams come true as the one and only Sarah Nicole Landry (aka The Birds Papaya) joins her on the mic for an empowering conversation surrounding body acceptance and confidence. Sarah made headlines when she bared it all (stretch marks included!) for Knixwear and quickly became a role model for all shapes and sizes. Mahsa and guest-host Rachel are back at it with Part Two of the Jillian Harris/Influencer Economy deep dive! We get to the meat of it in this second half, and do our best to answer the big questions around the relatively new career of influencing, including exploring this unique parasocial relationship and tackling what, if anything, influencers owe their followers. As we debate the merits of influencers sharing their (curated) world with us, we wonder how much of it they need to share, particularly around their (sometimes controversial) sentiment on what's happening in the world around us. While Jillian has spent the past few years lending her platform to social causes and diverse voices, we can't say the same about all her contemporaries/circle of influencer friends. We get somewhat political this episode, so please note that as always, views are our own. And we try to answer the biggest question of all --why are influencers?! Do we need them? Do we love them? Do we love to hate them? Most importantly, what value do they give us?For a more dynamic experience, follow us on Instagram @haveyouheardpodcast. We post cool articles, tv/film recommendations, and generally love to break down notable cultural moments. We love hearing from listeners, so be sure to drop us a DM. This episode was actually recorded a while back when I first started the podcast, but I'm finally releasing it! Honestly, Bailey is one of my favorite people to follow on Instagram. Her content is extremely inspiring from a creator/marketer perspective, but also I love how honest and real she is on social. She's not afraid to talk about her insecurities, whether that has to do about relationships, loneliness, or body confidence. Bailey is Vancouver-born and raised. She describes herself as a huge animal lover, and while she hates labels, she's 99% vegan. Her job title ranges from entrepreneur to influencer to podcaster. Her day-to-day consists of snuggling her blind-in-one-eye Boston Terrier, Banks, working with brands of all sizes via her creative media agency PLAY Digital (they help brands with social media management, content creation, influencer marketing, graphic design, gif design, etc.), to recording podcasts for What Day Is It? (they've had guests like Jillian Harris, Kaitlyn Bristowe, The Birds Papaya, Lauryn Bosstick, etc.). She is also the founder of Shop State of Grace and co-founded PIPERWEST Watches. On top of this, two of the companies she founded she did by the age of 25! In this interview, we talk about authenticity, friendship, starting three companies, and business advice. After 6 months or more of talking about it we decided to go for it! Off to Best Buy we went to purchase a mic & 2 headphones to share with you what we love best... shopping! There's a story to our Best Buy experience too, where we meet Jensen - the cashier who made sure our items were safe with double bagging them.. because 'if he is going to get a shoutout on a podcast he better make sure it doesn't fall out of the bag'Our first confession to share... SMASH + TESS A Vancouver-designed & North American made company that we have been obsessed with for over 3 years. Romper Revolution? Yes we're apart of it and proud of it. What is not mentioned in this podcast is how we first fell in love with Smash + Tess.. we were waiting in line for customs in the Vancouver airport talking about this new clothing line our friend Amanda was telling Nikki about and I had seen Jillian Harris promote, after an hour in line Nikki took out her phone went to the website we looked at each other said 'should we do it?' and BAM! our first romper order was made. Since then we have fallen in love with pretty much all their products but especially when they collab with our favourite Canadian Influencers Jillian Harris & Birds Papaya. If there's one thing we LOVE it's exclusive items, Nikki is a ninja when it comes to getting online on launch days and purchasing that item before 1 minute has past. We drink some wine, talk about our romper love and laugh... a lot! So grab your bestie, a glass of wine and listen to our Shopaholic Confessions.

Hello Mamas! We are so happy to be back in a groove with many more episodes coming your way... The balmy summer days are slowly turning into gentle, cooler days (hopefully on all fronts), and we are gearing up for September, not knowing what lies ahead. And that is even more reason why we are so excited to bring to you some truly special guests -- Anna Lozano and Lindy Sood -- Founders and CEOs of Love Powered Co - the affirmation company. They are moms on a mission to power the next generation of mindful leaders and make I AM affirmations a common practice in homes around the world. Their affirmations have been seen on The Marilyn Denis Show, Breakfast Television, Fox News, and enjoyed by influencers and celebrities including Sarah Landry of The Birds Papaya, Jaime King, Jully Black, Cheryl Hickey amongst many others! Wowza! Talk about powerhouses, amirite?! On the podcast, we chat with Anna and Lindy about the power of affirmations, how it changed their life and quite frankly, how they approached motherhood. Both of them were on their separate but simultaneous journey of self-discovery and personal growth, centered around self-love. Their lives were transforming before their eyes, these changes visible in the everyday nuances and intricacies of their life. While most people would consider affirmations unimportant or silly, Anna and Lindy leaned hard into practicing I AM affirmations in their household, so much so it became a daily ritual. They noticed how their energy level shifted whenever they would state an affirmation, and soon they noticed these feelings of positivity, confidence, inspiration, worthiness, calm, kindness, openness lasted long after their affirmation ritual was over. Imagine how powerful words can be -- to shape your thoughts, words, actions, and in essence, design your life. And more than that, if mindfulness practices are beneficial for us, as mamas, imagine the positive effects they have on our children! With these exact thoughts in mind, parallel life journeys, shared values, and a deep desire to birth something beautiful, life changing and meaningful, Anna and Lindy followed their creative and intuitive nudge to create affirmations that were powered with deep self-love, and so, Love Powered Co. was born. Some top takeaways from today's episode: Socio-cultural conditioning often teaches us to think that self-care, self-love is not important and those who do practice this are self-centered or self-absorbed. Well, Mama, here's a reality flash: Self-love, self-care, and self-worth are basic needs for you to not only survive, but also thrive in all areas of your life. You are not being self-centered when you affirm yourself. The way you speak to yourself is so important, Mama. Self-love is the highest form of kindness and love you can give to yourself. How you love yourself sets the tone for how you love others and the love you accept. And we all know the oxygen-mask-in-an-airplane analogy: Put your own mask on first before you go to help others. The same applies to motherhood, business, and your personal life. Instilling these practices within our daily routine is powerful, it makes a difference in our life and also impacts our kiddos. How beautiful is it to set the tone and raise empowered, conscious littles who know that the key to long lasting peace, joy, and success lies within themselves -- their self-love, their self-confidence, their self-worth. Everything you encounter in your life, motherhood, and business, there is an affirmation for that. Cheeky, we know! But it's true! Words are so powerful they have the power to shift your mood, your energetic vibration, and your whole life. That being said, embrace the squiggly lines and the highs and lows, the ebbs and flows. The journey to success in all areas of your life is non linear. Luck has nothing to do with it.
Sarah Nicole Landry is the real deal. This self-love trailblazer bares so much of her true soul, mind and body on the daily while inspiring and imploring her community to embark on their own individual self-love and self-acceptance journeys. It's no surprise that her loyal followers have grown to 1.4 million on Instagram (and that 700,000 of those followers joined her within a 12 month period). I love so many things about Sarah Nicole, but I think my favorite quality of hers is her commitment to personal growth and evolution. This evolution and openness to change has been apparent in observing the way that she has thoughtfully taken action in her anti-racism work, her inclusivity initiatives and her willingness to admit where she has gone wrong. Sarah Nicole's is a journey of fluidity and transformation – she is completely comfortable being her own biggest hypocrite, which allows space for important growth. On today's episode we talk about anti-racism, the history of the term ‘body positive', thin privilege, plastic surgery and body enhancements, as well as motherhood – and of course, self-love! Sarah Nicole's Bio: Sarah Nicole is a badass mother of three. Five years ago she embarked on a journey to get out of life's ruts and better her life. She lost 100lbs and went through massive life change with a divorce pushing her into new chapter of single motherhood. But like, a badass chapter. Since then, she met this bearded guy and he drank her poison and asked her to marry him. So she locked that down quickly and now they rock the whole chosen family thing! After struggling to find love for her body after losing all that weight, she worked through a lot of inner dialogues to discover the value and meaning behind self-love - and well, she thinks it's worth sharing about. By using social media as her journal, she loves helping others see and understand their worth, love their bodies, feel less alone in the world, and be ok with life's little shakeups. Key Takeaways:Language is important: The term 'body positivity' was derived from a movement created by and for Black women. It can be considered offensive when white women and women with thin privilege use this terminology. Check out this article for more info: https://www.healthline.com/health/beauty-skin-care/body-positivity-origins#1Polarization can be dangerous: It's important that we are careful about 'denouncing' body enhancements (including plastic surgery) as a part of the 'self love' movement. Doing so doesn't allow for individual choice which is what self love is all about. There is a good way to respond to being called out/in: if our content is ever viewed as offensive, it is possible to respond and take appropriate action in a productive way. ‘I don't think you should fall in love with your body now, because she will change. I think you ought to love you. The you beyond your body. The person who exists on the inside.' These words were shared from a post by Sarah Nicole from The Birds Papaya yesterday and have really hit home. Listen in to be moved by the full post. To learn exactly how you can embody this idea of being ‘more than your physical'. To be ok with the idea that you may not look how you want to look, or how you looked 5 years ago. But that's ok.
