Freeride ohne Bühne. Haltung statt Hype.
The Omnibus 1 agreement has finally been signed off – but what happens next? In this last episode before the Christmas break, Frank Bold's Senior Policy Officer Julia Otten and Andreas Rasche, Assistant Dean and Professor of Business in Society at Copenhagen Business School, return to the Frankly Speaking podcast, hosted by Richard Howitt, to give their final verdict on what the Omnibus 1 means for the effectiveness of sustainability legislation in the EU. Together they discussed to what extent the final Omnibus package provides certainty to businesses and broke down the key changes to the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD). You'll also hear more about: How the Omnibus 1 changes may impact businesses in the future – including the risk of facing heavier burdens due to less available information The significance of the Ombuswoman's finding of malpractice by the European Commission during this Omnibus 1 process, especially for future simplification packages The role of the far-right in pushing through the final Omnibus 1 text, and why companies have an obligation to speak out Whether historians writing on this period may still regard this era of simplification as a step forward, not a step back Julia and Andreas's advice to companies on what they should do now the final Omnibus 1 package has been concluded Listen in and follow us on LinkedIn and Youtube!

Today, the JURI committee of the European Parliament will be voting on the Omnibus 1 proposal. What does this proposal mean for the future of corporate sustainability reporting? In this episode of the Frankly Speaking podcast, Richard Howitt was joined by Julia Otten, Senior Policy Officer at Frank Bold and Andreas Rasche, Assistant Dean and Professor of Business in Society at Copenhagen Business School. Together they broke down the implications of the Omnibus 1 text being voted on today and explained what we can expect from the upcoming trialogues and Danish Presidency of the Council. You'll also hear more about: How the proposal being voted on today excludes 90% of companies from the scope of the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive, representing two-thirds fewer companies than those included in the 2014 Non-Financial Reporting Directive Why this Omnibus proposal no longer represents simplification but full-blown deregulation (as admitted by Commission President Ursula von der Leyen herself last week) How the developments of the past week carry serious consequences not only for sustainability but also the future of democratic decision-making in the EU Whether the objectives of the EU Green Deal are still alive Julia and Andreas's message to businesses at this critical moment in the Omnibus process, especially to those who will now be out of scope Listen in and follow us on LinkedIn and Youtube!

Author Anna Rasche visits our headquarters for this week's episode of VBT to discuss her new book, The Stone Witch of Florence. She covers writing about the Black Plague during a modern day-pandemic, the importance of wellness girlies, and why she loves crystals. After nearly a decade in exile for witchcraft, Ginevra di Gasparo is called upon to use her healing powers to save people from the Black Plague—or so she thinks. When she's asked to use her unique abilities to hunt down a thief, she starts to suspect she may be a pawn in a larger political scheme. Get The Stone Witch of Florence at bookofthemonth.com. Anna Rasche's debut novel A Stone Witch of Florence (2024, Park Row) brings reader on a historical fiction adventure to Florence. As the Black Plague ravages Italy, Ginevra di Gasparo is summoned to Florence after nearly a decade of lonely exile. Ginevra has a gift--harnessing the hidden powers of gemstones, she can heal the sick. But when word spread of her unusual abilities, she was condemned as a witch and banished. Now the same men who expelled Ginevra are begging for her return. Ginevra obliges, assuming the city's leaders are finally ready to accept her unorthodox cures amid a pandemic. But upon arrival, she is tasked with a much different mission: she must use her collection of jewels to track down a ruthless thief who is ransacking Florence's churches for priceless relics--the city's only hope for protection. If she succeeds, she'll be a recognized physician and never accused of witchcraft again. But as her investigation progresses, Ginevra discovers she's merely a pawn in a much larger scheme than the one she's been hired to solve. And the dangerous men behind this conspiracy won't think twice about killing a stone witch to get what they want... Learn more about your ad choices. In their book Sustainability, Technology, and Finance: Rethinking How Markets Integrate ESG, Georg Kell and Andreas Rasche explore the swiftly emerging and crucially important nexus among sustainability, finance, and technology.Kell is Chairman of the tech company Arabesque, which uses AI and data to assess sustainability performance and guide investments. He is also founder of the UN Global Compact, the world's largest corporate sustainability initiative. Rasche is a professor of business in society and Associate Dean of Copenhagen Business School. Together with Martin Reeves, Chairman of BCG Henderson Institute, they discuss the bleeding edge of sustainability thinking.ESG investment, Kell and Rasche explain, should be viewed through three lenses as they relate to technology. First, technological innovations, such as chemical recycling for plastics, shape firms' ESG performance. Second, technological developments enable investors to assess ESG performance more accurately (for example, the use of blockchain tech to enhance supply chain transparency). Finally, the ESG investment agenda itself is influenced by technology; consider that Bitcoin mining creates significant emissions. Based on this three-lens framework, Kell and Rasche explain how technology can be a critical part of the sustainability solution.***About the BCG Henderson InstituteThe BCG Henderson Institute is the Boston Consulting Group's think tank, dedicated to exploring and developing valuable new insights from business, technology, economics, and science by embracing the powerful technology of ideas.
