More BEV challenges: in this case Ford CEO Jim Farley drives an F-150 Lightning from Palo Alto to Las Vegas and concludes that is was a, "reality check" thanks to a poor charging infrastructure. Our trauma surgeon Stephan Moran says brake lights should turn on with BEV regenerative braking, not just when you're hitting the brakes. The guys discuss special edition cars we love and hate. A few examples of the ones we love: Bullitt Mustang, 1978 Corvette Indy Pace Car, and Porsche 997.2 GTS. On the other hand we hate the Chevy SSR pickup, 1984 Dodge Shelby Charger, and Gen 1 Dodge Viper "mustard and ketchup" edition, among many others. #carsoncallpodcast
Ryan and his guest, Scott Lyles, talk about The Cannonball Run, Joe Biden's 1967 Chevrolet Corvette, Steve McQueen's Bullitt Mustang and other collectible items.
Chris laments about the unfair advantage of getting more snow where he lives than when he was in Brooklyn, and Ray questions why he lives with snow at all anymore. The recurring catalytic converter code in Ray's Mazda and how to work around it gets some attention, as does a callers chronic ABS code on a new Dodge RAM. Paying closer attention to vehicle grounds especially on an older car is discussed, as is the cool factor of owning a Bullitt Mustang.
Professional auctioneer Matt Moravec from Mecum Auctions, the world leader in live auctions of collector and classic vehicles, discusses what it was like to bang the gavel on the 1968 Bullitt Mustang, when it sold for 3.4 million dollars in 2020.
Hop in the highland green Bullitt Mustang with Marshall Terrill and me as we explore Steve McQueen's defining film, 1968's Bullitt. We talk about the time McQueen witnessed a murder in San Francisco, dig deeper into Steve's vision for Solar Productions, and go into what makes Bullitt McQueen's most memorable picture.
Veering from Speeding Bullitt’s chronological exploration of McQueen’s life and films, Episode 30 puts the Bullitt Mustang in reverse, and takes a deeper look at 1958’s Never Love a Stranger and Steve’s time spent at the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre in New York City. John Blyth Barrymore discusses his father’s turbulent life and acting career, followed by Pamela Kareman, Executive Director of the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre, talking about the school’s rich history.
Where's Paul Newman's 911S? What is going on with the Seinfeld Porsche lawsuit? What did the Bullitt Mustang sell for? There’s a whole lot of car news to get to in this On the Move, and hosts Matt Avery and John Kraman don’t waste any time diving in to dissect Ford’s reveal of the all-new 2021 F150 pickup truck. The guys were enamored with the vehicle’s focus on innovation, including features like the Max Recline Seats that offer almost 180 degrees of recline, the available Pro Power Onboard that brings generator levels of power to job sites and the 3.5L PowerBoost full hybrid engine that is claimed to have a range of around 700 miles on a single tank of gas. The Blue Oval banter continues with the brand’s announcement of the F-Series Super Duty 7.3L V-8 engine, known as Godzilla, which is available as a crate motor. John talks about how he thinks that’ll open up a whole slew of restoration and Resto Mod projects, including what generations of trucks he expects to see it in. To wrap up, there’s talk of Ram’s highly anticipated 2021 TRX that boasts the Hellcat’s supercharged 6.2L V-8 engine. It’s coming this summer and, as the guys explain, will be red hot with lead foots and enthusiasts. Next, Kevin Marti of Marti Auto Works calls in, giving listeners a behind-the-scenes look at how his company all began with him as a teen looking for a classic Mercury Cougar, a car he still owns today. The enthusiast talks about the services his team offers, including the curation and preservation of Ford documentation and paperwork and the all-important Marti Report. He ends his time with a bang, going into how he was involved with bringing the historic Bullitt Mustang to light. He explains the smoking gun, which, as it turns out, was the galvanic reaction of the vehicle’s aluminum VIN tag. Kevin also gives his thoughts on the car’s momentous presentation and record-breaking sale at the 2020 Kissimmee Mecum Auction. Wrapping things up, John and Matt turn their attention to talk about all things COPO. These classic Chevrolets were the brand’s ultimate muscle cars, having been processed via a Central Office Production Order. Matt shares from his many years of research for his book on the subject, detailing exactly how these wheeled icons got created. Along the way, he explains the instrumental role of key figures like corporate brass Vince Piggins, dealer partners like Don Yenko and Fred Gibb, and speed consultant Dick Harrell. He also explains the rise and fall of the backdoor program, as well as its pinnacle of horsepower, and clarifies a few myths and misconceptions.

In this episode, sights are set away from Hollywood as Chris and Martin approach films not in the English language. For Martin the classic French car movie Taxi, while Chris dives into the world of Initial-D. But first, Ford vs Ferrari (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1950186/) is in the news yet again with BAFTA nominations for cinematography, editing and sound AND OSCAR NOMS OMG for Best Pic, Best Film Editing, Best Sound Editing and Best Sound Mixing! F1 TV (https://f1tv.formula1.com/en/) have released a new documentary series, F2: Chasing the Dream, a multi-part documentary series looking into the world of up and coming drivers in F2 (subscription only, sadly). The original Bullitt Mustang, as driven by Steve McQueen has sold at auction (https://uk.motor1.com/news/392285/bullitt-mustang-auction-3-point-4-million) for $3.4m. For this episode's reviews, we watch a pair of non-English films. Martin revisits Taxi (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0152930/) while Chris shuns the live action version of Initial-D (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0439630/) to go with Initial-D 1st Stage (https://www.funimation.com/shows/initial-d/) from the original Anime. In this week's online highlights, Martin picked the fantastic Harry’s Garage Porsche Carrera GT film (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dWbjvcDML7A) while Chris has been so deep into all things Japanese for this episode, he had to pick this documentary from Driftworks: Outsiders (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dZjpFYlYdw8). This week I cornered Oscar Pereda from Michelin in a (slightly) "off the books" interview at the SEMA Show. While the initial discussion was to be centered around the all new Michelin Track Connect system....I found out that he is the guy behind the coolest and most trend-setting genre changing tire sizes in pro-touring! He literally is the person who decided to have BFG develop a 335-wide 18" tire...because he thought that is what would look "coolest" on the tail of a '69 Camaro. Front tire sizes followed suit and today we have an enduser suspension, brake, chassis, and speed industry built around it! The post TMCP #417: Oscar Pereda, Godfather of the BFG Pro-Touring Tire? Is deadlifting bad for your back? w/Squat University’s Dr. Aaron Horshchig IF you heard this deadlift episode last week under the title “Why do people think squats are bad for your back?” go back and re-download that title and you’ll get the correct episode on squatting. ____ How many times have you heard someone say they don’t want to deadlift because they’re afraid they’ll hurt their back? Too many. Neither of us have had back pain issues caused specifically by deadlifts, so we tried to think of reasons that people might actually believe this. Here’s what we came up with: If your back rounds when you pull, are you more likely to get hurt? Will improving your form protect you from injury or should you just “pull how you pull?” What about people who don’t pull with good form and never seem to get injured? What role do your spinal erectors play in the deadlift anyway? Aren’t your hamstrings more at risk anyway when you pull? Our ideas start about 17:00. Aaron weighs in at about 24:00 with some wisdom from Dr. Stuart McGill’s work. We talk about the idea that your back maybe only has so many bends, the mechanism of deadlift (movement in and out of load), and the dangers of copying the form of random person on Instagram…or even of a top puller. Specifically, the movement flaws of deadlift freaks and elite athletes’ are not an excuse for you to pull the same way. We also touch on ways that strongman style deadlifts and stone lifts are different from a standard powerlifting deadlift. As a physical therapist, Aaron works with Olympic weightlifters, powerlifters, Cross Fitters, international level soccer players, MLB and NFL athletes. He’s currently working with our friend, powerlifter J. P. Price. We open the show with a conversation about just how good a movie (or food or whatever) has to be to make it worth paying for. Is just having a good time enough? Our trip down the rabbit hole of this topic includes The Lion King, McDonald’s Chicken Nuggets, the Avengers movies, Iron Man, Black Panther, Thor, Guardians of the Galaxy, Star Trek, Star Wars, Disney Plus, and Steve McQueen’s Bullitt Mustang. You can find Aaron at his website Squat University, on Instagram @squat_university, on YouTube Hosted by Mike Farr (@silentmikke) and Jim McDonald (@thejimmcd). Produced by Jim McDonald Production assistance by Connor O’Neal. Theme by Aaron Moore. Branding by Joseph Manzo.
Sean Kiernan has over 20 years of experience in the automotive industry as both a professional and an enthusiast. Before moving into paint and specializing in sales, management, and consulting, Sean cut his teeth in collision repair as an advisor, restorer and service expert in Nashville, Tennessee. Among the cars in Sean’s collection is the most iconic movie car in history; the 1968 Mustang Fastback, the ‘559 Bullitt Mustang, driven by Steve McQueen in the iconic 1968 film Bullitt. The story behind how Sean ended up with this car is fascinating. When it comes to cars, Sean is respected by many and considered an expert in his field. I had the pleasure of meeting Sean at the LeMay – America’s Car Museum a few months ago, where he shared his Bullitt Mustang. Getting to see the car up close and personal and hear the story, I knew I had to bring this to you, the Cars Yeah listeners.

Automotive historian John Heitmann joins Tim to discuss the Freedom Car, the Ford Mustang and its role American lore. John digs into the history of the car, its place in popular culture and recent events surrounding the emergence of the long lost and iconic "Bullitt Mustang." The premise of our podcast is simple. We talk about the people, events and things that have shaped the way we think. In this episode, John tells the story behind the car that some vintage collectors say is an iconic American symbol of freedom, but all describe it in one word – cool. https://traffic.libsyn.com/shapingopinion/Freedom_Car_-_The_Ford_Mustang_Story.mp3 In August, the Ford Motor Company reached a milestone when it produced the 10 millionth Ford Mustang rolled off the assembly line in Detroit. The Mustang has weaved its way int our culture through advertising, music and Hollywood. It’s largely recognized around the world as one of America’s strongest cultural exports. While sales of the model have decreased in the U.S. in recent years, the car is gaining popularity overseas in places like China and Germany. Over the years the car was dubbed the original “freedom vehicle,” named after a horse that roamed free in the American West. The Ford Mustang was introduced in 1965, but it actually debuted in the Spring of 1964 at the New York World’s Fair. It wasn’t thought of as a muscle car, but rather a more affordable, sporty but appropriate for young professionals, including female drivers. The Bullitt Mustang This past year, Ford tapped a nostalgic nerve, introducing a new limited edition 2019 "Bullitt Mustang" alongside one of the original vehicles that appeared in the movie Bullitt, which was released in 1969. While the human star of the movie was Hollywood legend Steve McQueen, a case was made that th real star of the film was the Highland Green 1968 Mustang GT that McQueen drove through the streets of San Francisco. After filming was complete, a New Jersey detective named Frank Marranca bought one of the two or three vehicles used in the production. According to reports, Bob Kiernan had bought the Mustang from Marranca in 1974. Apparently, he found it in the Road and Track magazine classified and paid $6,000 for it back then. It moved around. First it was stored in Tennessee, then it was stored inside a friend’s barn in Kentucky. After that the family moved the car to a garage on their property in Memphis around 1984. In 1977, Steve McQueen approached the family to buy the car and they turned him away. Bob Kiernan loved the car, and even used it as a family vehicle for a time. According to Bob's son Sean, the two had planned to eventually work to restore the car, but sadly, bob died in 2014. It's been reported that in 2015, Sean approached Ford. Since then interest in the car has increased as the company prepared to mark the 50th Anniversary of the movie Bullitt and celebrate what is the most famous Ford Mustang ever.
