Join Bill for Episode 731 of the Pennsylvania Rock Show as he introduces you to The Dead End Streets and some of their yet-to-be-released music! Dubbed a “Pittsburgh Supergroup” by Scott Mervis of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, The Dead End Streets began when singer/songwriter Matt Aquiline returned to his hometown of Pittsburgh after two decades of living and performing in Washington, DC. To bring his sound home, Aquiline assembled a group of musicians with rich histories in the Pittsburgh music scene. The band released their first EP, “Coming Home,” in December 2017. They began collaborating with the horn section “The Weapons of Brass Destruction” (Greg Eggert, Hannah Veri) in 2018 with their holiday release “No Excuse Not To Have a Merry Christmas,” which featured the b-side “Climate Change Christmas.” Continuing their commentary on climate change, The Dead End Streets released the single “Snowball Fight on the 4th of July” in July 2019. They teamed up with The Weapons of Brass Destruction again for the 2020 release “The Time Has Come.” In this release, Catley is joined by legendary Pittsburgh vocalist Stevee Wellons (Soulful Femme) to deliver a powerful soul anthem for change. Their first full LP, “Seems I Survived,” was released on October 7, 2022. Scott Mervis called the title song “a twangy garage-rock anthem for the waning days of the pandemic” and compared The Dead End Streets to the legendary group “The Band.” The title track was also a semifinalist in the Song of the Year songwriting contest. The Dead End Streets blend folk, rock, blues, country, and a touch of blue-eyed soul into roots rock that is authentically Pittsburgh. Their stellar songwriting and exceptional musicianship reflect the depth and authenticity developed through surviving a few cold winters. Tune in to Episode 731 of the Pennsylvania Rock Show to learn more about The Dead End Streets, hear their upcoming music, and dive into their journey and influences. Lancaster Resources Vice President of Engineering Andrew Watson joined Steve Darling from Proactive to discuss the company's upcoming exploration plans for its uranium-prospective Catley Lake and Centennial East properties in the Athabasca Basin of Saskatchewan, Canada. These properties, covering approximately 8,117 hectares, are strategically located adjacent to Cameco's Centennial deposit claims. Watson outlined that the company's initial plans include detailed surface outcrop mapping using hyperspectral data to identify vegetation stress indicative of subsurface uranium. The exploration efforts will also involve acquiring high-resolution optical imagery and purchasing corrected imagery for hyperspectral analysis. The results from the hyperspectral imaging (HSI) will be used to prioritize and focus follow-up field geology, geochemical sampling, and geophysics programs. These follow-up programs will concentrate on areas identified by the HSI that show positive indications for uranium. Upon completion of the fieldwork and geophysics program, target locations will be identified for an initial drilling program planned for Q4 2024. This comprehensive exploration approach underscores Lancaster Resources' commitment to advancing its uranium prospects in the highly prospective Athabasca Basin, aiming to uncover substantial uranium resources adjacent to known deposits. #proactiveinvestors #lancasterresourcesinc #cse #lcr @otcqb #lanrf #UraniumExploration #CleanEnergy #EnergyTransition #AthabascaBasin #Saskatchewan #CentennialEast #KariLake #AdvancedTechnologies #Geophysics #HyperspectralImaging #ArtificialIntelligence #MachineLearning #Mining #ResourceExploration #EnergySector #DrillingProgram #GeologicalModels #SustainableEnergy #ExplorationStrategy#invest #investing #investment #investor #stockmarket #stocks #stock #stockmarketnews
The New South Wales government feels no guilt for attempting to poach Kiwi police. The state is 1500 officers short, and it today announced it'll fast-track New Zealand officers as recruits. Training requirements will be shortened and Kiwis can keep their current rank - up to senior constable. Police Minister Yasmin Catley says it's just another measure to bolster numbers. A stay-at-home Kiwi mum has gone viral on TikTok for sharing the true cost of going back to work after having children. Anna Catley, 31, from Napier, shares a 2-year-old son and 10-month-old twin daughters with her husband, 30, who works full-time. Catley worked as a sales and marketing manager for Cherri Global, which grows and exports cherries, before going on maternity leave. After her twins were born, she considered going back to work – but was shocked when she calculated what it would cost to put her three children in daycare. She'd need to earn $35 an hour over a 37.5-hour week, and pay for 40 hours of childcare, costing $26.70 an hour, leaving her with just $170 a week in hand. But she says that while the cost is shocking, it's a struggle that countless mums will relate to. “It's a real barrier to returning to work,” she tells the Herald. “It makes you think twice about ‘is it really worth it?' Not only due to the cost, but also then having to juggle childcare drop-offs, pick-ups, manage meals and housework, all with the limited time you'd then have if you were working full-time as well.” At the time of writing, her TikTok video has had more than 70,000 views, 3500 likes and 266 comments, as countless other Kiwi mums chimed in to share their experiences. “Finally someone says it,” one commented. “I 100 per cent feel ya on this! Not to mention the amount of time your kids spend sick at home with bugs they caught in care,” another wrote. “I feel this! Plus add in all the sickness too. No thanks, I'll stay at home and look after my babies and make memories with them while I can,” another mum shared. Catley notes that, in New Zealand, paid parental leave ends after six months, and childcare is not subsidised until a child turns 3. “So there's a big gap there of two and a half years where families are having to fork out a lot of their earnings on childcare. “Spending $26.70 an hour on childcare is more than the living wage.” It's no secret that the rising cost of living and inflation increases have made life even more difficult for parents, whether they're working or not. “I think there will be a lot of mums out there who didn't plan on going back to work, or who wanted to have a longer time off work, but have been forced back into work because costs are so high and it's harder to make ends meet these days,” Catley points out. She says it's unlikely she'll go back to work until her kids are old enough to go to school – unless she can find a “mum-friendly” job. “After doing the maths and seeing the ridiculousness of how much I'd work and how little money I'd have left over at the end of the week after paying for childcare, I've realised that I need to think outside the box to come up with a way of getting income outside of the usual 8am-5pm working in an office situation,” she says. Since Covid, many businesses have realised that employees can still work effectively from home. Ideally, Catley would be able to use her marketing skills to take on a few clients from home. “As mothers, we are naturally great at time management, project management, juggling many things at once, and working to deadlines because we have to be,” she notes. “I still have so much to offer an employer, but like everyone I need something that works for my whole family.” - Bethany Reitsma, NZ Herald For more parenting news and advice, listen to One Day You'll Thank Me, the Herald's parenting podcastSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Cancel culture, virtue signaling, pronouns in bios—"wokeness" is often compared to a virus, and one that is spreading with no signs of an emerging herd immunity. This week's guest Bob Catley was there at the creation, teaching political science at universities in Australia, New Zealand, and the United States in the 1960s, 70s, and 80s before entering Parliament for Labor in 1990. Catley argues that today's woke thinking is nothing new, but is the heir to 1960s radical activism. And he owns up to having unleashed it on Australia. Join us as we revisit the major battlefields of the culture wars with a culture warrior who has fought on both sides. Prof Bob Catley earned his PhD from the Australian National University and has held academic positions at the Universities of Adelaide, Delaware, Otago, the Northern Territory, and the Sunshine Coast. He was the federal Member for Adelaide from 1990-93. An expert on US foreign policy, he is also the author of The (Strange, Recent But Understandable) Triumph of Liberalism in Australia (2005, Macleay Press).

Cus D'Amato once said that fear is like fire: If you can control then it can give you heat and light but if you can't control then it will burn you to the ground. This week me and Matt Macklin are joined by former WBC Super Middleweight champion, now clinical psychotherapist Glenn Catley to talk about fear, about how fighters have to be able not to just overcome it but to harness it, control it, to "make it their friend" as Matt often says. It's a key issue, one that affects not just boxers but people in all walks of life. We all know what it's like to feel nervous, afraid or at the very least apprehensive and how inhibiting or even destructive it can be so it was great to pick Glenn's expert brain.
This week on Fit for Purpose, Justine is joined by Donna Catley, Chief People Officer of Compass Group. They talk about the challenges that Compass faced at the beginning of this pandemic and how they have played an integral part of the Covid-19 response in the UK.
I 2018 feiret Magnum sitt 40-årsjubileum for albumdebuten "Kingdom of Madness". Samtidig ga de ut sin tjuende studioplate, "Lost on the Road to Eternity". Les intervjuet her. Former WBC world super-middleweight king Glenn Catley had a remarkable career that saw him recover from early setbacks and controversies to reign as a champion. He had an incredible run of fights in Canada, Germany and South Africa while at the top of the sport, having already won the British title. But, as they often do, hard times followed. Despite that, Catley has maintained a positive mindset thanks to the use of hypnotherapy, something he used for his major fights, and he's rightly proud and happy while reflecting on his career. Here, he talks about the hugely controversial loss of his title in South Africa, his big wins over Kirkland Laing, Neville Brown, Eric Lucas and Marcus Beyer, working as a security guard, as a haulage driver and the parrot in Jersey that set him up with his wife while he was in training camp with Steve Collins! This is funny, sad and uplifting.

With Avantasia bringing their extraordinary rock opera to Australia for the very first time with select shows in Melbourne and Sydney, one of thier many all-star musicians and vocalists Bob Catley spoke to HEAVY from Switzerland to outline just how excited the whole cast is to be finally making it to our corner of the Earth."It means we will play to a whole new audience hopefully," he laughed. "Not having been there before it's broadening the horizons of all of the performers and singers - there's about 14 or 15 altogether - and it's a whole new world. We'll hopefully be playing to packed audiences and spreading the word of Avantasia and by association our own bands, mine of course being Magnum, and hopefully we can sell some records in Australia which we don't do at the moment very much (laughs). It will be nice to open up our music to the people of Australia and possibly get the call to come over ourselves in the future".Avantasia's last album Moonglow again assembled musicians from the cream of their genres, with Mr. Big, Helloween, Blind Guardian and Kreator amongst those represented, with Catley admitting the logistics behind getting them together not only for the recording process, but also the touring cycle, is something that takes much work and planning."It must be a nightmare"! he proclaimed. "There's guys coming from different bands and trying to get them all on the records... we all have different characters in our voices and so it's getting the right voice to fit the right song. You've gotta get it right because we're all good in our own vocal range. There's no good giving me something that would suit Michael Kiske, I'm more of a melodic mid-range singer. I'm not a screamer (laughs) and I can't do falsetto either. I'm more mid range so that's what they give me. Eric Martin from Mr. Big is about the same as me so we are similar in vocal technique and we get given songs that suit our range. They don't force us to do things we don't feel comfortable with".In the full interview Bob goes further into the massive undertaking it is to put the tour together, the difficulty in writing a flowing set list with songs from different conceptual albums, his personal journey and growth with Avantasia, his own band Magnum, the pro's and cons of being in two different bands, what he gets out of each and more.
We were very lucky last weekend to catch up with Labor spokesperson for Better Regulation and Innovation Yasmin Catley who, current polls suggest, is a very real prospect of being NSW’s next Minister for Consumer Affairs (she will ditch the Ministry of Long Names title). Yasmin has been getting a lot of coverage in Flat Chat recently for one simple reason – she has been talking about strata and things she wants to do to make our lives better. Better Regulations Minister Matt Kean has, admittedly, been pre-occupied with the Opal building and the cladding issue (not that he’s doing much on that front except scaring people, according to this story). Mr Kean was also invited to chat with us on the podcast but we didn’t even get a response. He’s a very busy man, not least because if the Liberals lose, his mentor, the premier, will probably be rolled and he’s her numbers man. For the record, I won’t be voting either Labor or Liberal in the NSW election and at various times I have promoted the efforts of Liberal Fair Trading Ministers Roberts, Dominello and Kean (although the latter turned out to be a huge disappointment when it came to Airbnb). But it’s refreshing to have someone who has a real chance of making a difference talking about issues that are important to us, the people who are living in apartments right now. Yes, building defects are important, but the changes proposed by the government will only affect blocks that haven’t even been started yet. Meanwhile they have let us down on Airbnb-style holiday lets, flammable cladding and making builders and developers responsible for defects that exist right now. In this week’s podcast, Ms Catley makes a very convincing argument as to why she would be a better champion for apartment residents – owners and tenants – than anyone in the current mob. She’s proposing a register for holiday lets, an opt-in option (with the default being no holiday lets) for Airbnb in apartment blocks, more protection for tenants, a strata commissioner and shifting strata to housing and and building and away from broken toys and dodgy mechanics. In short, it’s more about people living is strata rather than profits for developers and investors. Also, we pick up the second half of our chat with Owners Corporation Network chair Phil Gall, when we get into Airbnb (again), why most politicians don’t get strata, Fair Trading (we disagree) and the future of OCN. I won’t say too much more. Just listen to the podcast … it might make you think again about which way you are going to vote next week. You can listen to the podcast by clicking here. Enjoy. https://episodes.castos.com/flatchatpod/Flat-Chat-Wrap-16-Yasmin-.mp3
Dame Christine Cole Catley was a journalist, publisher, teacher and author who was involved in PEN NZ from the 1950's. Known for her commitment to writing and publishing in New Zealand she was also deeply committed to other writers - teaching and encouraging them and working to set up systems and organisations which protected writers rights, freedoms and incomes. Hear her in November 1999 talk with Alison Gray about PEN NZ and why, at first, she declined to be a member.

Well, we're pretty sure we've seen everything now, after that rather...interesting...handball call against Servando Carrasco Sunday that led to a 2-2 Orlando City draw against the New England Revolution. On this edition of the PawedCast, we're certainly going to talk about the officiating a little bit, but we're also going to talk more about the game, our Man of the Match and a bit of this week's fallout. We also discuss OCB's cold start to the 2016 USL season and Orlando Pride's first-ever NWSL game. Joining us to give us the view from the inside of that match at Portland is none other than Australian international defender Steph Catley, who scored the Pride's first-ever goal on Sunday night. Steph is about as personable as they come and we appreciate her giving us her view of the game, the Pride's progress so far and preparations for the Houston Dash on Saturday. We also kicked off a new segment, called Ask TML, which allows listeners to ask us any question on their mind. You can do that by email or tweet to us using the hashtag #AskTMLPC. We hope to hear from you. And, of course, we give you our key match-ups and score predictions for Sunday's match at New York Red Bulls. It was a really big show! Here's how it happened: 0:13- Lions! Revs! Refs! Man of the Match! Nocerino suspended! We break down the New England match and talk OCB and Pride. 32:24- Steph Catley joins us for an exclusive interview. The only scorer in Pride history (so far) shares her thoughts on Sundays match at Portland Thorns, life with the Pride, Aussie Rules Football, and more. 45:15- Ask TML answers questions about Mason Stajduhar at OCB and Brek Shea with OCSC, plus our key match-ups against NYRB and our sure-to-be-wrong predictions Learn more about your ad choices.
