Reach out to Cody and Buhler to tell them what's up!Pearls and swine, bereft of me...As False Start carries on, John Buhler (Lead Writer, FanSided.com) will be all by himself for about a week after this. That is because Cody Williams (Content Director, FanSided.com) will be more Hawaii than Peter Bretter sobbing on the Kapua Suite while trying to Forget Sarah Marshall. In the meantime, the guys had to touch on all the delicious gossip surrounding Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders' NFL Draft status. Some prognosticators think he is going to fall, but not on this here program. The guys then looked at the failed College Football March Madness Bracket Buhler created while Cody was without internet. From there, it was a lot about the Pittsburgh Steelers' infatuation with a 40-something Aaron Rodgers over going to Michigan's Pro Day.False Start is not your rolling wheels, we are the highway, so keep driving, Cavinder...
Reach out to Cody and Buhler to tell them what's up!A tournament, a tournament, a tournament of lies! Also, one with questionable internet. For various New Mexico reasons, John Buhler (Lead Writer, FanSided.com) had to fly solo like a cup on a delayed March Madness episode of False Start.Cody Williams (Content Director, FanSided.com) may have his beloved North Carolina Tar Heels in the tournament, as well as his absolutely tremendous birds known as the UNC-Wilmington Seahawks, but he will have to wait and find out what Buhler did to False Start's second College Football March Madness Bracket!Based strictly on college football, Buhler picked a champion out of the field of 68.We are not sure if he is better for doing it, but he did in fact do it!No matter how you pronounce tournament, the right way or the wrong way, there is a place for you as one of The Starters over on False Start!
Greg Cote is mad about notifications on his phone and the fact that strangers can just request money from him on Venmo. Carson Beck and Hanna Cavinder both got their cars stolen and while Cavinder's car has been returned, Beck's MERCEDES AND LAMBORGHINI are still missing. Plus, Chris informs us he has to miss out on the United States against Canada in the Four Nations Face-Off tonight because of a comedy show. Has anybody had a bigger star turn this year than Nikki Glazer? Then, we've flown in Darren Rovell for a sports business “jerk off” with David Samson after Samson claimed he was not only more recognizable but also more qualified to discuss sports business. Has there been a more prolific NIL “bag getter” within functional CPG categories than college basketball players Haley and Hanna Cavinder? When college athletes began having the opportunity to receive financial compensation for their Name, Image and Likeness three years ago, the Cavinder twins secured a deal with Six Star Pro Nutrition on the first day. Then, they started working with the sports nutrition brand Bucked Up on an exclusive energy drink. And now…it was just announced Haley and Hanna Cavinder joined the canned protein beverage brand Slate as investors and brand ambassadors. According to NIL tracking sites, the Cavinder twins were projected to earn $1.7 million over the last year, which would rank them the seventh-biggest earners in college athletes. Love it or hate it…the advent of NIL has undeniably reshaped the landscape of college sports. TCU Football is back in Amon G. Carter Stadium on Saturday looking to keep bowl hopes alive vs. the Baylor Bears. Call it the Bluebonnet Battle or the Revivalry or whatever you'd like, it's a rivalry that carries weight regardless of records. We preview the matchup, the players we expect to stand out, and discuss the new rivalry name and trophy that the winner will lift going forward. TCU Women's Basketball secured the commitment of one of the most famous college athletes as Haley Cavinder commits to the Horned Frogs for the 2024-25 season after helping lead the Miami Hurricanes to the Elite Eight last season. Mark Campbell's squad also picked up two wins this week: dominating Rice and needing a comeback to escape vs. Incarnate Word as Sedona Prince & Madison Conner continue to excel. Men's Basketball also picked up an easy win, using a huge 2nd half to pull away from UTRGV after a sloppy turnover-filled first half. Big 12 Football still has a big jumble at the top and the Week 12 schedule could provide some clarity, highlighted by Kansas State at Kansas and Texas at Iowa State on Saturday night. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/frogsup/support

Dan Wetzel and SI's Pat Forde & Ross Dellenger react to all of the latest developments surrounding Brandon Miller and the situation with the Alabama Crimson Tide's men's basketball program, following last week's revelation that Miller allegedly delivered the handgun that resulted in the murder of a Tuscaloosa woman in January.Over the weekend, attention to this situation only grew after Miller was seen during player introductions receiving a pat down gesture from another Alabama player. The action, which has supposedly been taking place all season, has drawn the ire of many college basketball fans. While head coach Nate Oats called the gesture inappropriate, the podcast is more perplexed by the apathy Alabama has demonstrated throughout this entire process. In other news, the NCAA has levied their first NIL infraction against two women's basketball players for the University of Miami, Haley and Hanna Cavinder. Ross explains how the NCAA is hoping to prove their regulation of NIL is legitimate in this ice-breaking decision against the Cavinder twins.Moving to football, Nebraska and Matt Rhule are in the bidding for star high school quarterback Dylan Raiola, who has plenty of ties to the Cornhusker program. The guys deem that this could be the perfect starting point for the new regime to get the program on the right track.Next, Florida State athletic director Michael Alford is displeased with the ACC and the revenue distribution within the conference. Welcome back to THE Sports Law Podcast! We cover all recent stories at the intersection of sports and law. Today, host Dan Lust (@SportsLawLust) is joined by Tarun Sharma (@tksharmalaw) and John Nucci (@JNucci23) to break down the latest stories in sports law. The NCAA handed down its first NIL related violation against the University of Miami. (2:48) The violation pertained to the Cavinder twins who currently play for Miami's women's basketball team. The NCAA charged a prominent Miami booster John Ruiz with having an impermissible dinner with the twins during their transfer recruitment. This marks the first time that the NCAA has handed down such a violation and could show the path that new President Charlie Baker will take to enforce NCAA NIL guidelines. The guys give their pick of where the next NIL crackdown will occur. (16:04) The odds were set at -300 for the SEC, +125 for the ACC, +250 for the BIG10, and +450 for the rest of the field. John ended up picking the ACC citing other prominent boosters surrounding Syracuse. Dan laid his money down on the SEC citing the heavy hitters such as Georgia and Alabama. He also talks about the Jimbo Fisher and Nick Saban drama. Tarun placed his bet on the BIG10 citing value and highlighting the bigger schools like Michigan, Ohio State, and Michigan State. Details have leaked about contract provisions present in the contracts of current LIV golfers. (22:17) These provisions, as detailed by John, seem to show the restrictive nature of the contracts that could have an affect on their current lawsuit with the PGA. These provisions also seem, in some ways, to contradict the statements from golfers who made the jump about the reasons why LIV would allow them more freedom. Dan and Tarun provide a little educational segment using the recent defamation lawsuit filed against Pat McAfee. (34:50) This includes what to do when you receive a complaint as well as the different ways a case can go following the initial filing. Dan also talks about the possibility that this case could move to federal court due to the residence of the parties involved. *** Have a topic you want to write about? This one is a little of the rails, so we apologize. But there's good reason! Meredith has a ghost in her apartment AND she's sick AND we have awful NYC apartment stories. There's some basektball too, like Caitlin Clark's absurd buzzer-beater, Olivia Miles' injury, Miami landing in some hot water over the Cavinder twins, and some 1 seed banter.MOST IMPORANTLY: NYU is in the NCAA Tournament and will face Greensboro Friday night. Winner likely gets Messiah.

Locked On Canes - Daily Podcast On Miami Hurricanes Football & Basketball
The Miami Hurricanes athletic department is on probation for the next year after NCAA enforcement claims an improper meeting took place between the Cavinder Twins of the women's basketball team and LifeWallet CEO John Ruiz before the Cavinders officially transferred to Miami. The NCAA claimed an impermissible benefit was given to them in the form of a dinner, and they sanctioned women's basketball coach Katie Meier for helping facilitate the meeting even though she was not present for it. Lawyer Darren Heitner, who represents the Cavinder twins, joins host Alex Donno to discuss the event and the NCAA's findings. Heitner tells Donno that he has been informed that dinner was never actually served at the meeting, which contradicts the NCAA's findings if that's the case. Heitner explains to Donno what it actually means to be on probation and how this could affect the Miami football program. Donno and Heitner discuss the constant moving target in the way the NCAA regulates NIL and recruiting. Heitner points out that this particular case is not really an NIL case but actually an alleged recruiting violation, meaning the media is characterizing the event improperly. Alex discusses the collapse from the men's basketball team, which lost to Florida State on a buzzer beater. Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! The Miami Hurricanes will have talented players returning next year, despite a disappointing 5-7 season in 2022. Pro Football Focus analyst Max Chadwick joins Alex Donno and John Garcia Jr. to break down why he considers James Williams to be among the top 5 returning safeties in the country. Not surprisingly, Kam Kinchens is also on that list. James, though, had an uneven 2022 season. He has a chance to be more consistent in 2023. Max also explains why Leonard Taylor is so highly rated by the PFF analytics. Taylor had a surprisingly low snap count in 2022 but Donno expects him to get more playing time next year. Max also explains what it will take for Tyler Van Dyke to have a bounce back season. Alex and John discuss the breaking news today of NIL violations being discovered by the NCAA against the Miami women's basketball program. WBB head coach Katie Meyer served a suspension and Miami's athletic department is on probation for a year. The violation is the result of the Cavinder twins having dinner last April at John Ruiz' home. Thankfully, the NCAA investigated Miami's entire athletic department and did not find any violations elsewhere, including football and men's basketball. Alex and John discuss 2024 quarterbacks Air Noland and Marcos Davila.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!LinkedInLinkedIn jobs helps you find the candidates you want to talk to, faster. Just in time for Hoops Madness this March you will be watching paid athletes in the NCAA Tournament. Lots of them! Name, Image and Likeness is paying off for college athletes and some high school too! Since the NCAA allowed athletes to make money off their NIL in July 2021, you might be surprised how much they are cashing in! We're not talking the biggest names in the biggest sports, the Cavinder twins are making millions, as is Shareef O'Neal (Shaq's his Dad). In this episode, NIL advocate and sports law expert Darren Heitner lifts the lid on how athletes are cashing in less than a year into NIL and where the money is all going.
In some ways, 2021 might have felt a bit like a reboot of 2020, but there were so many moments to be excited about. Let's look back before diving headfirst into 2022.1. The college sports landscape changed forever with the July ruling that allowed athletes to be paid for their name, image and likeness (NIL). Athletes like the Cavinder twins who play women's basketball at Fresno State were the first to take advantage of the ruling. Some athletes like Michigan running back Blake Corum and Iowa lineman Tyler Linderbaum used their NIL money to benefit a good cause, not just their wallets. 2. Mental health became a dinner table topic thanks to athletes like Simone Biles (gymnastics), Naomi Osaka (tennis) and Lane Johnson (NFL). Johnson took a leave from the Philadelphia Eagles to face his battle with depression head-on. Osaka withdrew from the French Open and Wimbledon to focus on her well-being. But the world saw just how the pressure impacted an athlete when Simone Biles battled the "twisties" in the Summer Olympics. She put her safety and her team first, withdrawing from the women's gymnastics all-around competition. 3. Sports fans continued to realize what so many already knew, women's sports are the place to be. Not only did viewer ratings soar for the WNBA (Women's National Basketball Association), women's college basketball championship game and the NWSL (National Women's Soccer League), but we saw the first college softball game on a major national network. The NFL and MLB (Major League Baseball) added more female coaches and front-office executives. In 2022, look for the women's college basketball tournament to use the coveted "March Madness" title for the first time. 4. The year brought us athletes who seem to get better with age. Tom Brady won the Super Bowl with his new team, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (NFL – National Football League), in February at age 43. (And then celebrated with maybe one too many shots at the championship boat parade). At 46, Helio Castroneves won the Indy 500, and Phil Mickelson showed off his impressive 50-year-old calves on his way to a PGA (Professional Golfers Association) Championship win. 5. The delayed 2020 Summer Olympics gave the world the positivity and excitement we'd all been missing. COVID precautions meant athletes' families had to watch from the comfort of their couches, too, but the stories of athletes like Caeleb Dressel, Suni Lee and Katie Ledecky all brought us to our feet. The US topped the medal count with 113 total medals, 39 gold, including one from the US Men's Basketball Team, who continued their medal streak. Bonus: If you're a fan of F1 (Formula One) Racing, then you likely caught the race of the century when Max Verstappen beat out seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton for the 2021 championship. But did you know that Hamilton, the only Black F1 driver, is also a fan of fashion? He purchased a table at the Met Gala, which runs around $275,000, and filled it with three emerging Black designers to grow their reach.

Name, Image, and Likeness - NIL - goes into effect TODAY. This is one of the biggest developments in college athletics, EVER. CAPITAL LETTERS EVERYWHERE! I got the chance to interview Boost Mobile's CEO Stephen Stokols about NIL. Boost Mobile is sponsoring Hanna and Haley Cavinder, twin guards on the Fresno State women's basketball team. The Cavinder twins have one of the biggest social media followings of any current NCAA athletes as between them, they have over 5 million total followers across Twitter, YouTube, Instagram and TikTok. NIL will be interesting because it may benefit small business more than it will massive companies like Verizon, Nike, etc. College athletics is very regional in nature. A local bakery shop could get more mileage out of sponsoring a local college basketball player because that player wouldn't even show up on a large company's radar. We talk about some of these issues in the interview. Mr. Stokols talks very fast. There is a LOT going on, and there will be an explosion of announcements about this over the next few days. One point of confusion. We kind of go back and forth about today or tomorrow. I say “Today” because the content wouldn't be released until Thursday. He says “tomorrow” because he thinks I'm putting something out immediately. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
The KMJ phone lines open to discuss how Boost Mobile announced its sponsorship Thursday of the Cavinder twins, star guards for the Fresno State women's basketball team, ushering in the new era of college sports and proving female athletes will benefit from the name, image and likeness (NIL) changes that go into effect Thursday.
