John and Paige talk with photographer/tour manager/many-hat-wearer Ashley Gellman about life on the road and at home. Ashley has worked with artists like Bartees Strange, Jamie xx, Jonas Brothers, boygenius, and is currently on the road with Lucy Daucus. She's a larger-than-life personality, and she breaks down her life on the road, her upbringing as an independent kid doing her own thing, her relationships with the early artists she worked with, found family amidst her touring peers, and how to capture the best shot without being in the way. Amidst a whirlwind of travel and work, Ashley talks in depth about how she's grown to embrace being home, and how she balances the "all-in" touring lifestyle with the calmer vibes of being back in Philadelphia. If you can manage to pin her down, Ashley does do photo shoots for hire when she can, so follow her on IG.  On Sunday, May 18th, the 12th annual Brain Fest is happening at Fringe Bar in Philadelphia from 5pm to midnight. Eric talks about growing up moving a lot, his dad's record collection, going to shows as a rite of passage into growing up, and his lifelong love of technology and innovation. This is a show I have been thinking about doing for a while, and that I believe is an important subject for both new and veteran music photographers…. BUT even if you're not a music photographer, this subject should matter to you. I think it applies to anyone negotiating prices. I have strong opinions on what the ASMP has referred to as "Predatory" Releases, and there's no question that I have an opinion on the message I want to get out on this episode, but, it is my show, so I get to do that. If you're not a Music Photographer, and have never heard of photo releases - note that these are NOT model releases - then don't worry. I explain what they are, and why they exist, in the show. Then I am joined by two other music photographers... My buddy David Bergman is a Canon Explorer of light, and hosts the show Ask David Bergman on Adorama TV. There are few people I know of that know more about photography than David, from his days shooting for the famed Miami Herald newspaper, to having 13 Sports Illustrated covers, David is a big deal. He has been Luke Combs' full-time tour photographer since January 2019, and Bon Jovi's tour photographer since 2010. So glad that we get to benefit from his years of experience in media and music photography for this show. Oh yeah... David's workshops, like Shoot From the Pit and his upcoming Italy trip, are great chances to hang out and learn photography. Also on the show we have Montreal based Music Photographer Marie Demeire. I have followed Marie on socials for years, but today is my first time meeting her face-to-face. Known around the net as "Marie Goes To Shows", she has been published in Complex, EDM.com, Bandcamp, iHeartRadio Canada, Canadian Beats, 99Scenes, Sors-Tu, the MUHC Foundation, Secret Melbourne and BP Arts Media. Having been a fan of her work for years, I am thrilled to be able to get her perspective on this subject. The first iPad was released over a decade ago and pitched as a bold new frontier for consumer computing. It helped kill the netbook and spawned generations of copycat tablets from Android manufacturers and Microsoft. But it hasn't really played out all that well. In fact – despite selling a healthy number of them – the iPad sometimes seems like a mostly forgotten product range, with confusing options and not much by way of innovation. What gives? In a first for the Camerosity Podcast, we finally dive into the wonderful world of Graflex press cameras and other 4x5 cameras.  If you thought Camerosity only meant 35mm, medium format roll film, and subminis, this is the episode that will shake up everything you know about us! For episode 43, we had a packed house (although there was one significant omission).  Joining the gang on this show was first time caller, and owner of Graflex Parts, Graham Burnett, along with Andy Pham, Daniel Belmes, Eric J, Greg McCreash, Howard Sandler, Jess Hobbs, Marcy Merrill, Mario Piper and his wife Julianne Piper, Mark Faulkner, Nick Marshall, Patrick Casey, and Robert Rotoloni. Together, topics ranging far and wide from the history of Folmer & Schwing, the company who made the first Graphic cameras, to differences between all the models, where to start if you've never shot a Graflex before, development tips, and all sorts of information that people who love these cameras want you to know.  In addition to discussions about Graflex press cameras, we also get into a few other 4x5 cameras like the Busch Pressman and Burke & James versions.  Greg McCreash is back to talk about his massive Combat Graflex, and we even touch upon some of the 35mm Graflex cameras. If you've ever wanted to know something about these wonderful cameras, this is the episode you'll want to hear! As always, the topics we discuss on the Camerosity Podcast are influenced by you!  We would love to hear from more listeners, especially those who are new to shooting film or collecting cameras.  Please don't feel like you have to be an expert on a specific type of camera, or have the level of knowledge on par with other people on the show.  We LOVE people who are new to shooting and are interested in having an episode dedicated to people new to the hobby, so please don't consider your knowledge level to be a prerequisite for joining! The guys and I rarely know where each episode is going to go until it happens, so if you'd like to join us on a future episode, be sure to look out for our show announcements on our Camerosity Podcast Facebook page, and right here on mikeeckman.com.  We usually record every other Monday and announcements, along with the Zoom link are typically shared 2-3 days in advance. The guys and I have had a great time talking about Graflex, Argus, Contax, and Pentax, and for our next episode, we are going to divert a bit from our regular format and just discuss what we've been working on lately and some topics we'd like to share with you all, so there won't be any option to dial in for the next episode.  Maybe we'll still have a special guest for you, maybe not!  You'll just need to stay tuned for that one. We will resume our normal call in for episode 45 though, which we will record on Monday, March 20th.  We don't yet know what we'll talk about then, but be sure to stay tuned for the official announcement! Happy New Year, Quitters!!! I am so stoked to have survived 2020 and I hope you are too! Unfortunately, I managed to get COVID AGAIN. So the next couple episodes will be recorded remotely. Up first, I interview a Colorado comedian, Jo Kimbrell! Jo is a very funny comic who wanted to talk about her experiences shooting live music! We discuss challenges with shooting concerts, what the press pit is like, and how carrying a camera gets you access to anywhere. We also touch on what it's like to host an open mic! If you liked Jo, check her out on instagram @jokimbrell If you like me, follow me on twitter @MaximOfAllen. You can also follow Don't Quit Your Day Job on Instagram @DQYDJ_pod. My DMs are open! In this episode we talk about some of the important health aspects of being a freelancer. We often forget to take care of ourselves, because we are always so hyperfocused on our work. Time management is something I have personally struggled with,  For my photographer readers/listeners, it's important for you to build relationships in this industry. You must absolutely be respectful to everyone at the venue. You have to remember that you are there to do a job and so are the venue staff. Do not hassle the security guards, because they are not only keeping the kids and bands safe, but they're also going to be looking out for you. Concert etiquette is extremely vital if you want to succeed in this industry.  For classes/booking: http://justtheletterk.com/booking Get Socialistic with me:
