Love the episode? Send me a text & tell me.Editing is directly linked to business results. It is the finishing touch to our creativity and to that raw photo. And if that end product does not blow the viewer's minds, it's a red alert - a gap we may not see, but clients most definitely will, which will begin to show up as fewer clients, clients not returning, confusion, and second-guessing ourselves.Editing isn't just about creating a magnificent photo. It's about creating a solid business on the foundation of solid skills because our editing skills position us as experts & increase our value to the client. This week on the podcast, the queen of editing, Roberta Dallalba, continues to share powerful editing tips that not only elevate our photography but also grow our business. Clients can love us. They can love our work ethic, our creativity, our talent, the raw photo out of the camera, the experience of working with us, but at the end of the day, if our editing doesn't match their needs, none of that matters. Read more at https://myfoodlens.com Follow Dyutima on Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/dyutima_myfoodlens/ Show notes available at https://www.myfoodlens.com/blog/121-photo-editing-tips-to-elevate-your-photography-grow-your-business-with-roberta-dallalba-part-2Have a question? Love the episode? Send me a text & tell me.Often, we see editing in isolation from the creative process. In fact, many creatives don't realise that editing is not an optional step, and miss it.The consequences of weak editing or missing it altogether are never obvious. When our photos don't stand out, we are unable to create a brand's style or don't see progress in winning clients - we think of everything except editing. The role of editing and how it might be holding us back is not something that comes to us. This week on the podcast, the queen of editing, Roberta Dall'Alba, shares powerful editing tips, but also how to use them to grow your business. She shares the direct link between editing and business growth, an efficient editing workflow that saves time, pros and cons of different Lightroom versions, the power of AI in editing, bringing storytelling to editing, and much more. This isn't just a masterclass in post-processing but a mindset shift to edit like a true Creative.Read more at https://myfoodlens.com Follow Dyutima on Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/dyutima_myfoodlens/ Show notes available at https://www.myfoodlens.com/blog/120-photo-editing-tips-to-elevate-your-photography-grow-your-business-with-roberta-dallalba-part-1Have a question? Podcasters know that video podcasting is quickly growing and they want to be part of the hype, but how does one jump on this effectively? Today, the Blubrry team goes into detail on to not only create video episodes but to do so well. From recording to editing to publishing, we take you through 15 tips on how to get your best video episode yet! Today's Hosts: Mike Dell and Todd Cochrane Editing a video podcast involves balancing both audio and visual elements to create a polished and engaging final product. Here are some tips to streamline the process and enhance the quality of your video podcast: 1. Prioritize Clean Audio First Audio Cleanup: Start by cleaning up the audio track, as clear sound is essential for podcast listeners. Remove background noise, reduce echo, and apply EQ and compression to balance levels. Sync Audio and Video: If you recorded audio separately, sync it to the video right away to avoid drift. Use claps, hand movements, or syncing markers for easy alignment in the editing software. 2. Choose Simple, User-Friendly Software Select an All-in-One Tool: Programs like Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, and DaVinci Resolve offer powerful editing capabilities for both video and audio. For simpler edits, tools like iMovie or Descript (which has both video and audio editing features) can work well. Use Templates or Presets: Many editing software options come with built-in templates for intros, lower thirds, and transitions, which can save time and ensure a consistent look across episodes. 3. Use Multi-Cam Editing for Multiple Angles Switch Angles for Engagement: If you have multiple camera angles, use your editing software's multi-cam feature to easily switch between shots. Changing angles keeps the viewer's attention and creates a more dynamic viewing experience. Emphasize Reactions: Switch to close-up angles during key moments, like when someone laughs or makes an impactful point, to capture facial expressions and enhance engagement. 4. Add Visual Interest with Graphics and Overlays Include Lower Thirds for Speaker Names: Adding lower thirds with speaker names or topic headers makes it easy for viewers to follow who is speaking or understand the segment focus. Use Animated Overlays for Emphasis: Use simple graphics or animations (like arrows, text pop-ups, or icons) to highlight key points, jokes, or important moments. Keep them subtle and relevant to avoid distracting viewers. 5. Incorporate B-Roll and Visuals to Enhance the Story Use B-Roll to Illustrate Points: B-roll footage, images, or screen recordings relevant to the conversation add visual depth and context. For instance, if a guest mentions a specific event, you can overlay relevant visuals to keep viewers engaged. Add Text Overlays or Key Quotes: Highlight essential points or quotes with on-screen text, reinforcing key takeaways for viewers. 6. Keep Transitions Simple Stick to Clean Cuts or Fades: For a polished, professional look, use simple cuts or crossfades between scenes. Avoid fancy transitions like star wipes or 3D effects, as they can look dated and distract from the content. Use Jump Cuts Sparingly: Jump cuts (where you cut to different parts of the same shot) can help trim unnecessary pauses or filler words, but overuse can make the video feel choppy. Use them only when they improve pacing. 7. Optimize for Different Platforms Consider Aspect Ratios: Most platforms (like YouTube) use a 16:9 ratio, but shorter clips for Instagram Reels or TikTok should be in a vertical 9:16 format. Edit shorter, engaging highlights in these formats to promote on social media. Create Engaging Thumbnails: Design a thumbnail that features your podcast logo, guest faces, or a key topic to grab attention. Use contrasting colors and large, readable text. 8. Adjust Lighting and Color Correction Balance Brightness and Contrast: Make sure the lighting is consistent across shots,

They explore the journey of becoming a creator, what it means to be an anomaly, and the mindset required to go from a traditional career to building a brand online. From deep dives into YouTube strategies to life design principles, Aprilynne shares a wealth of practical advice for aspiring creators and entrepreneurs alike.Guest BackgroundAprilynne Alter is a former Wall Street financial analyst turned full-time YouTube creator and educator. After an eye-opening internship in Silicon Valley, she realized that she didn't want to follow a traditional career path. Now, she's on a mission to help other aspiring YouTubers find their voice, build their channels, and achieve success in the digital space. Aprilynne's story is one of courage, self-belief, and the willingness to be different.Key Topics DiscussedThe Power of Being an AnomalyAprilynne shares how she's embraced the concept of being an anomaly. Inspired by a quote, possibly from Gary Vee, she explains that if you want a life that's different from the norm, you have to act differently. This mindset has driven her decisions to leave the traditional path behind and pursue a unique career as a creator. She emphasizes that being an anomaly isn't just about being different—it's about giving yourself permission to create in a way that aligns with your true values. From Wall Street to Content CreationAprilynne recounts her transition from working as a financial analyst on Wall Street to becoming a full-time YouTuber. A pivotal moment occurred when she realized what success looked like in her corporate environment—a Friday night call, her manager pushing aside family time to handle work issues—and she knew she wanted something different. She discusses the challenges of making that leap and the belief in herself that pushed her forward despite doubts and obstacles.Finding Your Unique AdvantagesWhen making the decision to leave Wall Street, Aprilynne focused on her unique strengths, such as writing, visual artistry, and community building. These were talents she wasn't utilizing in her traditional career, and she knew they could be leveraged to create a meaningful impact in the creator space. This section dives into the importance of identifying your own unique advantages and using them to differentiate yourself in the market.Growing a Successful YouTube ChannelAprilynne goes into detail about the importance of having a solid strategy when it comes to YouTube. She shares her experience of starting her first channel, having it blow up with an NFT-related video, and then pivoting to create a second channel that felt more aligned with her passions. She emphasizes focusing on quality vs. quantity, the importance of ideas, and how to structure a successful video.Editing Tips for YouTube CreatorsEditing is a major part of Aprilynne's creative process. She shares her detailed approach, from scripting to annotating her videos with visual elements and examples, to making sure the content is engaging and educational. Her editing style is heavy on visuals and examples, which she believes are key for effective learning on YouTube.Challenges and Opportunities in the Creator EconomyAprilynne highlights some of the struggles creators face, such as dealing with burnout, learning new skills, and finding ways to monetize content. She discusses her vision for a creator accelerator program similar to Y Combinator—an incubator for creators to help them achieve their goals faster with proper support and resources.Memorable Quotes“If you want to be an anomaly, then act like one.”“I realized that if success in my career meant sacrificing family time on a Friday night, that's not the kind of success I wanted.”“Your unique advantages are like your creative superpowers—use them to differentiate yourself.”“Execution is hard, and it's where most people give up, but it's also the key to finding success.”“I believe in small bets—trying lots of different things to see what works while increasing your luck surface area.”Practical Takeaways for Aspiring CreatorsAct Like an Anomaly: To achieve a unique life, you need to act differently from the norm and embrace your creative quirks.Identify Your Strengths: Know your unique advantages and find ways to integrate them into your content.Focus on Packaging: When creating for YouTube, your idea, title, and thumbnail are critical for attracting an audience.Balance Quantity and Quality: Start with quantity to build a habit, then shift to quality once you've developed a consistent workflow.Script and Annotate: Before filming, annotate your script with visual cues to streamline editing and avoid unnecessary reshoots.Find Your Niche: Have a focused niche that aligns across all your platforms, making it easier to build a brand and monetize.Think About Longevity: Don't focus solely on short-term gains. Consider the long-term impact you want to make with your content.Aprilynne Alter's journey is a powerful testament to the courage it takes to pursue a creative path, even when it means leaving behind a stable and traditional career. EPISODE 265 - Stephanie Cotta - Editing Tips, Betta Readers and Her Book - The Conjurer's CurseStephanie Cotta writes epic fantasy and is the award-winning author of the young adult fantasy novel The Conjurer's Curse. After discovering the world of Star Wars and the land of Narnia at a young age, her love of Sci-fi/Fantasy has been undying ever since. She loves writing stories of hope amidst insurmountable odds. Her goal as an author is to create realistic characters who struggle, who fail, who question, who doubt, but ultimately triumph so that readers young and old can use these journeys as a conduit that sheds light, hope, and truth on their own struggles. For it is often in peering through the lens of a fictional character that we find courage for ourselves, and the resiliency to face hardships. The Conjurer's CurseSeventeen-year-old Rowan is a walking, breathing curse. He just hasn't realized it yet.Since birth Rowan has been the object of scorn in his village. The reason? He's a dikyli—an outsider with albino skin and an ominous mark blazoned on his neck. So when his fourth guardian-mother is found dead, all blame falls on him, and he is banished before his life-draining curse can strike again. The only path left to Rowan is clear: He must discover who cursed him and alter his horrible fate, or forever lose everyone he loves.THE CONJURER'S CURSE is a YA epic fantasy packed with fast-paced action-adventure, twists, turns, and romance. Featuring multiple POVs and a morally gray antihero, this novel will keep young and adult readers breathless and yearning for more.  https://sdaniellacotta.com/___https://livingthenextchapter.com/podcast produced by: https://truemediasolutions.ca/ National Podcast Post Month is celebrating 16 years!
