Christopher O'Brien has a new book out entitled. Stalking the Herd, which is one of the most the most thoroughly researched books ever published on Cattle Mutilations. In part one of this interview, we discuss the phenomena in general, we talk about it's history, and the first cases. We do get into the levels of high strangeness, as well as the mundane cases. From 1992 to 2002 Christopher O'Brien investigated over one thousand paranormal events reported in the San Luis Valley—located in south-central Colorado/north-central New Mexico. Working with law enforcement officials, ex-military, ranchers and an extensive network of skywatchers, he documented what may have been the most intense wave of unexplained activity ever seen in a single region of North America. His ten-year investigation resulted in the three books of his “mysterious valley” trilogy: The Mysterious Valley, Enter the Valley, and Secrets of the Mysterious Valley. His meticulous field investigation of UFO reports, unexplained livestock deaths, Native American legends, cryptozoology, secret military activity and the folklore, found in the world's largest alpine valley, has produced one of the largest databases of unusual occurrences gathered from a single geographic region. He is currently working with a team of specialists installing a high-tech video surveillance and hard-data monitoring system in and around the San Luis Valley. He has also authored Stalking the Tricksters which is published by Adventures Unlimited Press. It's the 23rd January 1879, one of the most momentous days in South African history has passed, and the ripple effect will be felt across the world. For missionary Otto Witt it was a time of particular terror. He had fled his mission station, Rorke's Drift, and now it was smashed to bits, the house which had doubled up as a hospital burned to the ground, the main warehouse which had been his church, broken, bloody. Witt had fled the day before and sought out his wife and children who he'd sent on to Msinga once it became apparent the British were going to invade Zululand. Witt had lost his way up the Biggarsberg escarpment on the terrifying night of the 22nd January, and staggered into the Gordon Memorial Mission at Msinga the next morning - but his wife Elin and their 3 young children had already left. He didn't know this — merely that she wasn't there. Elin had been told by refugees streaming away from Isandlwana that Otto had been killed at Rorke's Drift. So both believed the other dead. The family spent five days believing they were widows and orphans. The confusion was only cleared up when Witt finally tracked Erin's wagon trail to Pietermaritzburg where the family was reunited, exhausted and traumatized, but physically unharmed. In Newcastle, Maud Bradstreet had just assisted her friend, Mrs. Hitchcock, in delivering a baby girl named Georgina. Their joy was short-lived, however, as news arrived that the Newcastle Mounted Rifles had been decimated at Isandlwana—both of their husbands were among the dead. The two women set out for the Orange Free State, a grueling week-long journey by horse and cart, surviving on very little including water strained through a mealie bag. This was the raw reality for the survivors - later in the episode we'll hear from the Zulu. On the morning of January 23rd, a messenger reached Helpmekaar with a brief note from Lieutenant Chard Rorke's Drift commander Defying the grim expectations of the men at the camp, they had miraculously held their ground through the night. Back at Isandlwana, Chelmsford had awoken his men and rode away from the scene of carnage before dawn, one of the men had found the mangled body of Lieutenant Colonel Pulleine, Isandlwana's commanding officer, then the column passed down Manzimyama Valley. They moved past homesteads that had been abandoned only a day prior, but now the inhabitants were creeping back. Through the doorway of a single hut, they saw an Inyanga tending to amaQungebeni warriors who had likely fought at Isandlwana. The tension snapped; soldiers of the Natal Native Contingent opened fire and killed a man before order could be restored. A seething anger swirled through the British column, Trooper Fred Jones, one of the survivors of the Newcastle Mounted Rifles was not in a forgiving mood. “We saw red…” he admitted “ Exhausted and broken, the warriors shuffled forward, dragging their shields in the dust. The uThulwana were stunned—they thought no British soldiers were left alive after Isandlwana. For a long, tense moment, the two forces stared at one another across a distance easily covered by a bullet. Yet, neither side pulled a trigger. It was, as historian Ian Knight notes, a surreal conclusion to an extraordinary 48 hours: two armies, both feeling the weight of defeat, watching each other move silently into the distance. King Cetshwayo kaMpande did not get an accurate version of events at Rorke's Drift at first. Back at oNdini, Dabulamanzi reported that he had stormed and successfully taken the house… attacked again then retired…but admitted that he had suffered heavily …” It was to take another ten days before the warriors returned to oNdini and had been ritually cleansed .. only then did Cetshwayo address them in his huge cattle kraal. “If you think you have finished with all the white men you are wrong, because they are still coming…” he warned.

Bigfoot the Cow KIllerIn 2010, a man's family moved to Colorado, where they discovered a remote campsite on the border of the Rawah Wilderness in northern Colorado—an isolated, high-elevation spot accessible only by high-clearance vehicle. In spring 2019, he and his son scouted the site and spent four days there. They enjoyed the scenery and wildlife but found unexplained items: torn pajamas on the ground and a backpack wedged 50 feet up in a tree. In 2020, the full family returned. One night, dressed in Viking reenactment gear and celebrating late around the fire, they blew a war horn. Shortly after, a terrifying guttural scream echoed from the ridge behind camp, sounding like a woman being attacked. It repeated minutes later, followed by coyotes yipping and then abruptly yelping in pain before going silent, as if something attacked them. The next morning, they followed a foul odor and discovered a recently dead cow with no predator marks—except its entire lower jaw and tongue were missing. That evening they listened to Bigfoot-related podcasts and set up defensive perimeter traps and firearms (the narrator, a combat veteran, always camps heavily armed). The following morning, while checking the area, the narrator and his son witnessed a seven-foot-tall, dark-haired bipedal creature with a conical head, prominent brow, and human-like but larger hands dragging the decaying cow carcass into the woods. They soon had to evacuate due to the approaching Cameron Peak wildfire but later returned multiple times. They located the cow's scattered remains, recovered its ear tag as a keepsake, and began leaving small gifts (apples, candy, marbles, Bigfoot figurines) at the site, which consistently disappeared.The experience convinced the family that Bigfoot may be real. Wal experienced first-hand the indifference and sometimes hostility toward a radical challenge to mainstream science. He realized there is no career for a heretic in academia. Wal worked for 11 years with IBM Australia. The later years were spent in the prestigious IBM Systems Development Institute in Canberra, working on the first computer graphics system in Australia. He was the technical support for the computing facilities in the Research Schools at the Australian National University, which gave him excellent access to libraries and scientists there. Wal was initially heavily influenced by the then revolutionary ideas of Immanuel Velikovsky of Princeton. Velikovsky proposed that mankind had been devastated in the past by cosmological events . Wal took these ideas and with his deep knowledge of astronomy and, plasma physics began his own questioning of scientific dogma. Paramount was the place of electro magnetism, as distinct from gravity, in the formation of the universe . This slowly but surely led to his and other colleagues (such as David Talbot, Donald Scott, and Anthony Peratt) questioning such ingrained theories as the big bang, black holes and Einstein's theory of relativity. This group in particular contend that many scientific “proofs “are theory laden or mathematically concocted.
