“But Jesus said to them, ‘A prophet is not without honor except in his own country, among his own relatives, and in his own house.’” (Mark 6:4 NKJV) Imagine being the half brother of Jesus. You could never blame Him for anything. Think about it. Who were Mary and Joseph going to believe—you or the only sinless human being who ever lived? Imagine trying to compete for your parents’ attention with the long-awaited Messiah, the Son of God, the Savior of your people. That was the lot in life for James, the author of the New Testament book that bears his name. It’s noteworthy that neither James nor any of Jesus’ other half brothers believed in Jesus prior to His resurrection. In fact, at one point, Jesus’ family came to take Him home, thinking that He had taken leave of His senses. John 7:5 states plainly, “For even His brothers did not believe in Him” (NKJV). Yet James starts his epistle by identifying himself as “a bondservant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ” (James 1:1 NKJV). He doesn’t identify himself as “James, the brother of the Lord” or even “James, the half brother of Jesus.” Instead, he writes, “James, a bondservant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ.” Still, it seems hard to believe that James came to recognize the truth about Jesus so relatively late in life. After all, Jesus lived a flawless life. He never lied or stole or lost His temper. He never even sinned inwardly. Yet as Jesus Himself said, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own country, among his own relatives, and in his own house” (Mark 6:4 NKJV). That just goes to show that even living a perfect life is not necessarily enough to convince someone of the truth about Jesus. And, for believers who are trying to share that truth, it becomes even more difficult because all of us have fallen short at times in living out the witness we ought to live. The hardest people for many Christians to reach are those who are closest to us, especially in our own families. Many of us were raised in non-Christian homes. We know how difficult and hostile an environment that can be. It took the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead to finally reach His brothers. That’s when they all believed. It took the power of the gospel. Reaching family with the gospel message is still a challenge. But it’s a challenge we must rise to. The questions that the apostle Paul poses in Romans 10:14–15 still apply. “How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: ‘How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, who bring glad tidings of good things!’” (NKJV). Reflection question: How can you help the people who are closest to you understand the Good News of Christ? A common theme today is that people are just tired of chaos—both public and private. It's exhausting sometimes dealing with bad relationships. Global problems are with us every day. And we wonder when it will end. There is good news for you, though. Literally, Good News.1 John 5:4 says, “For everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith.”This is a message to us that we don't have to win the war ourselves. We don't have to win a battle. Don't have to take part even in a skirmish. Jesus has overcome it all. If you wonder how this can play out in practical terms, do this:Read this verse several times—First John 5:4. Make the choice to believe it's true. And then just literally sit back and close your eyes for a couple of minutes, and rest in the truth of God's Word.He is telling us that our faith overcomes all setbacks and difficulties. Our faith. Scripture tells us that faith is the substance of things hoped for. We might not be able to see the end, but we trust God that He will be standing there.Choose to be a warrior for Christ, and let Him lead. That is what will make the difference.Let's pray. Thank you, Lord, for winning the war already. We worship you alone. In Jesus' name, amen. Change your shirt, and you can change the world! Ancient Israel was thrown into despair and hopelessness in 722 BC when Assyria conquered much of its land in the north (Zebulun and Naphtali). Yet the prophet Isaiah could foresee a time when gloom would turn to joy because “a son is given, and the government will be upon his shoulder, and of the increase of his government and peace there will be no end.” In many societies today we find ourselves in such darkness that gloom, fear, and despondency cover our lands. The Good News is that the Son and His invitation have been given: Repent, for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand.

Welcome to Day 2784 of Wisdom-Trek. Thank you for joining me. This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom. Day 2784– The Nativity Revisited – Luke 2:1-20 Putnam Church Message – 12/21/2025 Luke's Account of the Good News - “The Nativity Revisited – Love Came Down”   Last week, we had our service online due to the weather, and we continued our year-long study of Luke's Narrative of the Good News in a message titled: “The Prophet of the Most High.” Joy to the World This week is the Fourth Sunday of Advent, which is Love, as we continue to build anticipation of the coming Messiah. Today's passage is the story of: “The Nativity Revisited – Love Came Down”- Our Core verses for this week will be Luke 2:1-20, found on page 1590 of your Pew Bibles.  The Birth of Jesus 2 In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. 2 (This was the first census that took place while[a] Quirinius was governor of Syria.) 3 And everyone went to their own town to register. 4 So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. 5 He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. 6 While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, 7 and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them. 8 And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. 9 An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. 11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. 12 This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” 13 Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, 14 “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.” 15 When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let's go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.” 16 So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. 17 When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, 18 and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. 19 But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. 20 The shepherds returned, glorifying and...

In about 50 A.D., twenty years after Jesus Death Resurrection and Ascension Paul of Tarsus, one sent with authority by Jesus the Lord, to preach the Good News to the nations arrived in the City of Corinth, a prominent city of the Roman empire located on the trade route connecting the Aegean and Ionian seas. He immediately began announcing the Good News: "The Crucified Jesus is the True Lord of the world."  Those believing the message were shepherded into house churches.  Then Paul preached, taught and pastored in Corinth for 18 months before moving on to other cities of the empire. See Acts 18 In 53 A.D. Paul, now in Ephesus, receives letters from the Church at Corinth and from the household of a woman named Chloe, a leader in the church.  These letters revealed alarming divisions, cliques, sexual immorality, lawsuits against fellow members, abuse of the Lord's supper, unbelief in the resurrection of Jesus, and much more within the Corinthian church.  Making things worse, Paul was being mocked as a phony apostle by members of the church in Corinth. Paul writes the 1st letter to Corinth from Ephesus in 53 A.D. to address the beliefs and behaviors of this charismatic, but grossly immature and divided church. Those today who seek to build "new creation" churches within the American empire will be blessed by this great letter.  We will make a special point of discerning in 1 Corinthians the character of wisdom and foolishness, freedom and license, as well as spiritual and childish. Come join us in this series of Podcasts on "Freedom and the Corinthians" as we "eat Corinthians" together, growing in maturity in Christ together.

The Angry Therapist Podcast: Ten Minutes of Self-Help, Therapy in a Shotglass for fans of Joe Rogan Experience

What if the problem isn't that you haven't found your purpose — but that you're trying to find something that was never meant to be found? In this episode, John sits down with Bill Burnett and Dave Evans, co-creators of Designing Your Life, to explore a radically relieving idea: There is no final version of you. Instead of chasing meaning, purpose, or fulfillment as a destination, Bill and Dave invite us to see life as a process of becoming — and meaning as something we practice daily, not achieve once. This conversation is for anyone who feels behind, unfinished, or quietly exhausted from trying to “figure life out.” You don't need a breakthrough. You need a reframe.

Citizens not only have rights and privileges, but they also have responsibilities. The same is true for us as citizens of Heaven. Let's not only experience the blessings of our new citizenship but let's conduct ourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel.Main Points:1. You may not have thought about this, Heaven is not just a place you are waiting to see, but it's a place of which you are already a citizen. You have a legal right to belong in Heaven because the blood of Jesus has paid for your entry. 2. As citizens of Heaven, the Word of God calls for us to live as citizens of Heaven. We are not yet in Heaven, but we are to live with the values of our new home.3. Paul says we can live as citizens of Heaven by conducting ourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel. In other words, if you are saved, live as someone who is saved. If Christ has come into your life, it should be noticeable in how you live. We are not worthy of what Christ has done for us, but we should do our best to live as though we were.Today's Scripture Verses:Ephesians 2:19 - “You Gentiles are no longer strangers and foreigners. You are citizens along with all of God's holy people. You are members of God's family.”Philippians 1:27 - “Above all, you must live as citizens of heaven, conducting yourselves in a manner worthy of the Good News about Christ.”Quick Links:Donate to support this podcastLeave a review on Apple PodcastsGet a copy of The 5 Minute Discipleship JournalConnect on SocialJoin The 5 Minute Discipleship Facebook Group

Sometimes the hardest place to live is not the beginning or the ending, but the middle. Elisha experienced this when Elijah placed the mantle on him in 1 Kings 19. He was anointed, but not appointed. Scripture doesn't mention him again until 2 Kings 2—possibly six to ten years later. Years of waiting, serving, and growing. God doesn't call the equipped; He equips the called. Elisha's gifts weren't on display yet, but his faithfulness was being formed. What we see as delay, God sees as design. What we see as obscurity, God sees as humility. Like Nick Vujicic's life shows us, God often uses seasons of struggle and waiting to prepare us for a greater purpose. The middle isn't wasted time—it's where God is shaping us for what's next.

“But Jesus replied, ‘We must go on to other towns as well, and I will preach to them, too. That is why I came.’” (Mark 1:38 NLT) In John 4, Jesus visits a Samaritan village, meets a woman at a well, and talks to her. A simple story, right? No miracles, no healings, no drama. Perhaps, but this seemingly simple story is loaded with profound significance. For one thing, in Jesus’ day, most Jewish people did not travel to Samaria. In fact, they often went well out of their way to avoid it. For another thing, most Jewish people didn’t talk to Samaritans. They considered Samaritans second-class citizens. (That’s why Jesus’ parable of the Good Samaritan was so shocking to His Jewish listeners.) And for another thing, most Jewish men did not talk to women, not even their wives, in public. So, why did Jesus do all three of these things? In answering that question, we unlock two very important principles of the Christian life—principles that should guide our efforts to share the Good News of Christ with others. First, we must go to where the people are. Jesus went to a Samaritan village because there was a Samaritan woman who needed to hear His words. That mentality fuels the servant heart. Jesus didn’t say that the whole world should go to church; He said that the church should go into the whole world. Mark 16:15 records one of Jesus’ last interactions with His disciples. “And then he told them, ‘Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone’” (NLT). That was the message He left them with. And that’s the assignment His followers today are given. When Harvest Ministries was doing an outreach in Disneyland several years ago, I was asked, “Why are you doing this in a place like Disneyland? Why would you hold an event in a place like this?” I said, “Because Jesus said, ‘Go into all the world,’ and He did not exempt Disneyland. There are people here. And we want to reach people.” The glorious thing is that many people came into God’s kingdom through that outreach. We need to go to where the people are. Second, we must care about the people we speak to. Jesus needed to go to Samaria because He cared about this woman (see John 4:10). When the apostle Paul was in Athens, he saw that the city was given over to idolatry, and his spirit was “deeply troubled” within him (see Acts 17:16–17 NLT). He felt righteous indignation as he saw so many people turning to false gods. In the same way, any effective sharing of the gospel must always begin with a God-given burden. We must care. Jesus cared. Do you? Do you want to reach out to perishing people? We must go to where the people are. We must care about them and reach out to them. Economic growth is revised higher, signaling momentum heading into 2026. The mood then turns more serious with warnings about TikTok's unresolved ties to Chinese control, the failure to revive the China Initiative to counter espionage, and growing concern over Chinese ownership of American food brands and farmland. Bryan also covers escalating clashes in Minnesota as Democrats continue to resist ICE enforcement, a judge blocks charges against Don Lemon for his role in an attack on a Christian church, and the White House signals a major shift by authorizing ICE to use administrative warrants to enter homes of illegal aliens. Globally, the episode tracks Trump's push toward regime change in Cuba, the possible withdrawal of U.S. troops from Syria amid ISIS prison breaks, the launch of Trump's new Board of Peace that could sideline the United Nations, and promising medical research showing red light therapy may prevent or reduce traumatic brain injury and CTE.   "And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." - John 8:32     Keywords: January 23 2026 Wright Report, murder rate lowest on record, American trucker wages rise foreign drivers removed, GM reshoring from China Mexico, TikTok China ByteDance control, China Initiative failure espionage, Nathan's Famous Smithfield China, Minnesota ICE resistance Don Lemon judge, administrative warrants ICE homes, Cuba regime change Trump, Syria U.S. troop withdrawal ISIS prisons, Board of Peace Trump UN bypass, red light therapy CTE brain injury
