Today, our expert guest is Regina Louise, the author of Permission Granted. Her best-selling memoirs, Somebody's Someone and Someone Has Led This Child to Believe, were made into the award-winning Lifetime movie I Am Somebody's Child: The Regina Louise Story which was nominated for the 2020 NAACP Award for Best Director. A summa cum laude graduate of the California Institute of Integral Studies with a master's degree, Regina is a Hoffman Process teacher, workshop, facilitator, and has been featured in outlets such as NPR's All Things Considered, Good Morning America, The CBS Show, The BBC, and more. Regina managed to survive 30 foster home placements as a child, spending the greater part of her adolescence in solitary confinement. At the time, those experiences were not interpreted as trauma, but, looking back, it's easy to see how traumatic those events were. To her, those traumatic events actually brought out a deep sense of intuition that helped her survive. Regina had to move through the trauma, and she did so through imaginative play. She began to investigate the concept of “home,” the concept of “character,” and whether it was something that could be obtained. She came to recognize that she could create a home wherever she was. When you give yourself permission to go on an inner journey, you give yourself an opportunity to meet yourself. You can step into your license to exist on your own terms. This is what her book, Permission Granted, is all about. One of the techniques she offers to discover self-love is to stand in your dignity. If you can fully accept who you are, and just show up as a spirit having a human experience, you can embrace your worth. The Biggest Helping: Today's Most Important Takeaway “Wherever you are, love is. I dare you to step into your own courage, your own definition of dignity, and invite love in; get acquainted with it on your terms.” -- Thank you for joining us on The Daily Helping with Dr. Shuster. Regina Louise, a beloved Hoffman teacher, is our guest this week on Love's Everyday Radius. Listen in as Regina shares with us about her time at the Process and how she wanted so badly to leave...but stayed. As a child, Regina lived in over 30 foster homes, group homes, and psychiatric facilities before age 18. She never had the chance to emotionally process the traumas she faced. The Process gave her this opportunity and so much more. One of the most powerful insights Regina shares with us is with regard to hope. She says, "We can’t tell people to have hope. We have to tell people the truth of who they are - to BE hope.” Rather than a passive sense of waiting for good to happen, Regina invites us to BE hope in the form of real action in the world, being Spirit not just talking about Spirit. Regina speaks about and coaches organizations and individuals on trauma and personal development. She is also a foster care abolitionist and an author. Regina Louise’s real-life story is the subject of the Lifetime movie, I Am Somebody's Child: The Regina Louise Story. She is the author of three books: Somebody's Someone, Someone Has Led This Child to Believe, and her new book to be released June 8th, Permission Granted. Find out more about Regina here. Interview with Larry Long Jr.I AM SOMEBODY! Larry's mother would make him repeat this everyday, and if you know Larry, he lives this everyday.Because of he's fathers work, Larry moved around a lot but his parents instilled many valuable lessons, like determination, belief in self and hard work. In high school he was recruited to play baseball at the University of Maryland. Senior year he was named captain. After not making the pros, Larry tried opening up his own business. After a year he shut the doors, but Larry knows that to get the hits you also strike out. He went into IT work and moved to a couple of companies and is now the Director of Collegiate Sales at Teamworks. Larry also has a YouTube channel and has a live show "The Midweek Midday Motivational Minute."Larry lives life to the fullest and encourages others to do the same. Join your host Hermene Hartman as she talks with David Masciotra , Author of the new book “I Am Somebody, Why Jesse Jackson Matters”. We are honored to also be joined by the legend himself, Reverend Jesse Jackson Sr. Today we discuss the life of Reverend Jackson and the impact his work has had on civil rights and the fight for equality for black people and others. David explains why Reverend Jackson is one of the most important civil rights figures of the 20th century. From his work with Dr. Martin Luther King, to his work to import the civil rights movement from the south to the northern states, to his many other pursuits that have lead to improved rights and equality for black people and other underrepresented groups in America. We talk about how Reverend Jackson’s work enhanced the influence and prevalence of the Democratic party and how his work, which David Masciotra calls “the sociology of equality”, was decades ahead of the party. David explains how Reverend Jackson transformed the demography and ideology of the Democratic party. Finally we talk to the legend himself. Reverend Jackson explains the influence he had when he ran for president and changed the democratic party forever. He talks about why he ran for president, in order to sew seeds of hope and inspiration for black people in America, to show them that black people had the power to influence real systemic change in this country. We talk about how Reverend Jackson's work has always involved two key factors. To call out injustices against black people and others, and also to work within the political system to change laws in order to create equality and inclusion for all people. Tune in to hear this important discussion with a living legend as we discuss all this and much more. When a young black woman named Joan Little ran from her jail cell, leaving her white male guard dead on the floor—without his pants—the country couldn’t decide who, exactly, Joan Little was. The prosecution said she was a vicious seductress who’d lured the guard in specifically to kill him. The defense said she was an innocent angel who hadn’t even known he was dead. Commonwealth Poets United is an international exchange between six Scottish poets and poets from six Commonwealth nations. Toni Stuart is a South African poet named in the Mail and Guardian’s list of 200 Inspiring Young South Africans for her work in co-founding I Am Somebody! – an NGO that uses storytelling and youth development to build integrated communities. Rachel McCrum, originally from Northern Ireland, is an Edinburgh resident today, a poet and the co-creator of popular spoken word event Rally and Broad. Both poets visited each other's countries to draw inspiration from a different culture. When Toni was visiting Scotland, she came into the Scottish Poetry Library with Rachel to talk about their exchange trips, how food united them, and how 'when you learn a new language, you gain a new soul'.
