They call it “False Spring” in Maine. The weather warms up, and the result is acres and acres of mud everywhere. While it's not good for many outdoor activities, it is made-to-order for all-terrain vehicle testing. That's exactly what co-host Chris Teague did with the 2025 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-Road. One of several Tacoma variants, the TRD Off-Road is equipped with monotube Bilstein remote reservoir shocks that facilitate extended wheel travel and offer greater heat dissipation, properties that are useful when splashing through the mud. One question many ask about the new Tacoma revolves around the new powertrain. Does the turbo-four adequately replace the tried-and-true V6? Chris Teague will answer that question and many others in his comprehensive review. At the other end of the country, Host Jack Nerad didn't have mud to deal with. Instead, his major obstacle was the heavy traffic around Phonix as snowbirds from the Midwest and West locked to baseball's Spring Training. Nerad's ride for this second stint in Arizona this spring was the 2025 Volkswagen Jetta GLI, the performance version of the popular compact sedan. With 228 horsepower under the hood and a six-speed manual shift lever in his right hand, Nerad and his wife, Sandi, made their way to a pair of exhibition baseball games while simultaneously putting the Jetta GLI through its paces. He'll have a complete report. This week, we have a terrific guest for you. Jason Norton is the director of auto benchmarking at J.D. Power and an expert on vehicle dependability. In his exclusive interview with Host Jack Nerad, he'll offer the details of the recently released 2025 J.D. Power U.S. Vehicle Dependability Study. If you're looking for a dependable vehicle — and who isn't? — you'll want to hear what he has to say. In the news this week, we'll answer the important question: Is this a good time to buy a new car? New data gives us some hints on that, and we'll give you the details in this episode. On the tech front, General Motors and NVIDIA have teamed up for a couple of big new initiatives involving artificial intelligence — one obvious and one not nearly as obvious. We'll tell you about both. Embattled Tesla Motors, the recent victim of multiple acts of arson and vandalism, has gotten a green light on a phase of its robotaxi initiative, and we'll have more on that. California EV drivers could lose a special perk by the end of the year, and we'll tell you what it is and why it may go bye-bye coming up. So we have a lot of show for you this week Stay with us.

The 2024 Volkswagen Jetta GLI is the enthusiasts' Jetta. It's a compact four-door sedan that seats five. Aka the Golf GTI with a trunk. And if you're looking to drive with more power, tuned suspension, and overall sportiness. Then the GLI Jetta is for you. GLI stands for Grand Luxury Injection. And a little more background bit for you. Volkswagen introduced the Jetta to the US market in 1980. Then they followed with the Jetta GLI in 1984. ⇒ iDriveSoCal's VW Dealer Is Ontario Volkswagen [powerpress channel="podcast" post_type="podcast"] New For 2024 Volkswagen Jetta GLI The biggest news for 2024 GLI is that the enthusiast model is being offered in two different trims. There's the 40th Anniversary and the Autobahn. GLI now includes Volkswagen's IQ.Drive driver assistance technology on all automatic transmission models. And that's now standard. Also new for the 2024 Volkswagen Jetta GLI is a nicety on the Autobahn models. Because they now come with a heated steering wheel standard. 228 hp & 258 lb-ft of torque Trims And Prices - 2024 VW Jetta GLI For 2024 the VW Jetta GLI is coming in two different trims. You have the option of the Autobahn or the 40th Anniversary Edition. 2024 VW Jetta GLI Trims & Starting MSRPs: 40th Anniversary Edition $28,085 Autobahn $31,785 It's worth noting that the 40th Anniversary Edition GLI costs slightly less than the top-of-the-line non-GLI Jetta for 2024. Engine, Transmissions & MPG Under the hood is where you'll find a big differentiator between the Jetta and Jetta GLI. Because the GLI comes with a 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder with 16 valves. It's turbocharged and intercooled. Putting out 228 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. That's a big step up from its more tame sibling. The non-GLI Jetta offers a 1.5L 4-cylinder putting out 158 hp with 184 lb-ft of torque. GLI comes only in front-wheel drive. But automatic or manual transmission is being offered on both GLI trims for 2024. The manual transmission is standard equipment on both trim options. And the automatic transmission upgrades to a seven-speed dual-clutch. MPG with the manual is being estimated at 24/35/28 - city/highway/combined. And with automatic transmission GLI's estimated MPG bumps up to 26/36/30 for the same. 7-speed automatic or 6-speed manual trans 2024 Volkswagen Jetta GLI - What Does It Look Like? The Volkswagen Jetta GLI continues its athletic and sporty appearance. Immediately recognizable are the red GLI badging and accents. But if you miss the VW badge, you might easily mistake GLI for an Audi. And being the brand's luxury brethren, that makes sense. Curiously Volkswagen groups the GLI and Jetta in the materials it shares with the automotive press. However, the engine, suspension and, appearance are all different when comparing the two. Even the exterior dimensions differ - albeit slightly. Exterior dimensions: Wheelbase 105.6 Track: front 60.5 rear 60.7 Length 186.9 Width 70.8 Height 57.3 Ground clearance 5.2 *All inches Inside The 2024 Volkswagen Jetta GLI Going inside the 2024 Jetta GLI you find the sporty accents continued. Red GLI branded highlights and stitching adorn the gear shift column, seats, and more. The stainless steel pedal covers further the sporty motif. Plus 40th Anniversary Edition trims get a special steering wheel and seat tags. A common signature differentiator VW adds to various trims and models. Controlling both trims for 2024 is a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The automatic transmission, of course, includes paddle shifters for taking control of the RPMs. Also coming with GLI is either an aluminum or leather gearshift knob. Aluminum comes with the standard manual transmission. And leather comes with the manual trans. Heated front seats come on both trims. But if you want them ventilated as well then you have to go with the Autobahn trim.
The 2024 Volkswagen Jetta carries on the legacy of stylish, fun-to-drive, and practical affordability. Setting it apart from all its non-luxury in-class competitors is merely the fact that it's a German car affordable to any American. Jetta's are immediately recognizable to most drivers, especially 30 years and older. Because it's been Volkswagen's top seller for more than four decades. ⇒ iDriveSoCal's VW Dealer Is Ontario Volkswagen New For 2024 Volkswagen Jetta Being refreshed in 2022 the 2024 Volkswagen Jetta continues its Euro-stylish-ness. All Jetta's are now receiving the German carmakers IQ.Drive driver assistance feature suite standard. Base-model S trims receive an eco-leather trimmed steering wheel plus a gearshift knob. Also rain-sensing wiper technology. Additionally, Sport-trimmed Jetta's now receive heated front seats. 158 hp & 184 lb-ft of torque [powerpress channel="podcast" post_type="podcast"] Trims And Prices - 2024 VW Jetta Volkswagen likes to group Jetta and its more sporty brethren Jetta GLI in its literature. However here at iDSC, we prefer to separate the vehicles. Because there are several differences that we feel are significant enough to warrant the separation. So throughout this article, we're just talking about the Jetta. And for 2024 Volkswagen offers it in 4 trim configurations. 2024 VW Jetta Trims & Starting MSRPs: S $21,435 Sport $22,585 SE $24,875 SEL $28,825 Engine, Transmissions & MPG For 2024 VW's Jetta keeps its 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Intercooled and with 16 valves it's delivering 158 horsepower with 184 pound-feet of torque. Front-wheel drive is the only way Jetta comes. But you have your choice of manual or automatic transmission. Which, for many drivers, just the idea of three-pedal driving delivers a sense of enjoyment. Even if you decide to go with the automatic trans. The manual transmission option is a 6-speed. While the more commonly accessed automatic trans is providing eight gears. Either way, Jetta delivers solid fuel economy. Depending on your trim and transmission configuration. Jetta is rated, at the high end, of using 29 miles per gallon in the city. (That's with a manual transmission, automatic actually rates better at 30 mpg.) Then in the best scenario, Jetta sips as little as 41 mpg on the highway. Combined it's between 33 and 34 mpg. 2024 Volkswagen Jetta - What's It Look Like? The 2024 Volkswagen Jetta appears bigger than its compact sedan designation. And being refreshed in model year 2022 Jetta hasn't changed much from the past two model years. Jetta enjoys a comfortably athletic stance with sleek lines. Since Jetta was the top-selling Volkswagen for more than forty years. It's quintessentially VW to almost anyone 30 years or older. Exterior dimensions: Wheelbase 105.7 Track: front 60.7 rear 60.4 Length 186.5 Width 70.8 Height 57.7 Ground clearance 5.5 *All inches Standard - VW Digital Cockpit Inside The 2024 Volkswagen Jetta Jetta is a compact sedan that seats up to five passengers. Both the S and Sport trims deliver cloth seating surfaces. While the SE trim gives you leatherette seating surfaces. For real leather seating surfaces you need to bump up to the top-trimmed SEL model. But that also gives you standard ventilated seats and a heated steering wheel. Plus 10-color ambient lighting. Heated front seats come with the SE and SEL. But only the SEL gives you heated back seats. Accent stitching on the gearshift knob and steering wheel is included with the SE and SEL trims. But only the top-trim SEL additionally comes with interior accent stitching that's not available on lower trim levels. A six-way power seat comes with the SE while the SEL gets an 8-way power seat with memory. Interior dimensions: Headroom 38.5/37.2 Shoulder room 55.9/54.0 Hip room 53.0/51.4

The 2022 Volkswagen Jetta GLI is refreshed this year. And I like what The People's Car people have done! For sure the compact sedan always delivers on stylish good looks and performance. Furthermore, they always manage to do it at a great price point. But even with that in mind, it feels like VW has leveled up its game for this refresh. Perhaps you'll agree as we unpack this review. Ontario Volkswagen ⇒ iDriveSoCal's Official Volkswagen Dealer 2022 VW Jetta GLI Top-3: Styling Technology Value What's New For 2022 VW Jetta GLI? So the front grill and rear bumper are the most noticeable areas of the 2022 GLI's refreshment. And both are enhancements that play perfectly to the target market of Jetta driving enthusiasts. And the cover picture of this article tells the story on the front. But the back is a bit more subtle as you'll notice below. Sporty rear lower valance Spot the honeycomb lower valance across the rear bumper? Nice touch! Volkswagen also notes larger exhaust pipes on the '22 GLI but I don't think that's quite as noticeable. Other exterior changes include new wheel design options and a Black appearance package. Additionally refreshed areas are inside the Jetta GLI. Including a newly designed steering wheel wrapped in leather. And red accent stitching. 2022 VW Jetta GLI Autobahn Trim Configuration And MSRP For the 2022 Volkswagen Jetta GLI it's super simple. Because the German carmaker gives you only one option. So if you want to go with the enthusiasts Jetta for this model year, then you're getting the Autobahn trim. And the '22 Autobahn GLI trim is well equipped and the starting manufacturers suggested retail price is $31,295. Engine, Transmissions, And MPG Also, when it comes to your engine and transmission options your decision-making is simple. Because the 2022 VW Jetta GLI Autobahn comes with one engine. However, here in the United States, we have the option of transmissions. First, the engine is a spirited 2.0-liter inline 4-cylinder. It's a 16-valve turbocharged inter-cooled, TSI. And available here in the US for 2022 the GLI Autobahn is available in both automatic and manual transmission! (Exciting because in VW's European home only manual is available.) Engine However, GLI is a blast to drive especially at its price point. This is due in large part to the well-balanced 228 horsepower engine that puts out 258 pound-feet of torque. Transmission Aside from manual and automatic, there is a slight difference in the transmissions. The automatic, which I test drove and you see pictured throughout this article is a seven-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic. Notable here is that paddle shifters come with the single-trimmed GLI for 2022. And this automatic trans/paddle-shifter combo provides ample driving enjoyment. However, if you want to take your driving enthusiasm to the next level, you can opt for manual transmission. And it's a six-speed. (My guess is that getting your hands on a manual transmission will probably require a special order.) GLI Fuel Economy Near identical MPG will be delivered for the 2022 VW Jetta GLI regardless of your transmission. If you opt for the manual trans then you'll get an estimated 26 MPG in the city and 37 on the highway. Ever-so-slightly adjusted MPG for the GLI automatic transmission is an estimated 26 in the city and 36 on the highway. The fuel economy for these transmissions is so close that they're estimated to both deliver 30 MPG for combined city/highway averages. 5-seat compact sport sedan What's The 2022 Volkswagen Jetta GLI Look Like? It's a compact sedan. But the GLI is the enthusiasts/sporty version of the Jetta. And with this year's refresh the sportiness is taken to the next level! Undeniably European and Volkswagen is how the 2022 Jetta GLI appears on the road. Key exterior dimensions are below. 2022 VW Jetta GLI Exterior Dimensions:

2020 Volkswagen Jetta GLI Overview The first VW Jetta GLI rolled off the assembly line in 1984. And since then, it's been considered Volkswagen's GTI with a trunk. So, quick background. The VW Golf GTI is the original hot hatch. A 5-door sports car. But hatchback. And the Volkswagen Jetta GLI is the Golf GTI's sibling. But a compact sedan. Just as sporty looking. More practical overall. Plus it's a great performer. Afterall the GLI is the enthusiasts' Jetta. But, I'd never driven the 2020 VW Jetta GLI. Who invented the sport sedan? — The Carmudgeon Show — Ep. 16Here’s a hint: it ain’t BMW. Derek and Jason postulate that Alfa Romeo invented the sport sedan at about the same time that BMW was making things like the Isetta bubble-car. This episode is an information-packed, hour-long discussion about the origin of the sports sedan — and what that term even means. There’s a difference between a sedan that’s fast in a straight line (Mercedes 6.3, 6.9, Maserati Quattroporte I) and a sedan that handles like a sports car (Alfa Giulietta). Giulietta really started the trend — even though sporting Jaguars like the Mk1 and Mk2 were already being regularly raced. But Alfa continued with the Giulia Super before BMW stumbled on the 2002 by accident — though it was a two-door sedan. But then BMW started to perfect the recipe with the E12 M535i - where it put its biggest engine in a sporty sedan, and then cemented success with the E28 M5. So while Alfa Romeo invented the sport sedan with the Giulietta, BMW perfected it with the M5.Today, every serious car company makes a sporty variant of its cars, but only some really qualify as sport sedans: the Maserati Quattroporte V, the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio, Aston Martin Rapide, the Mercedes 190E 2.3-16, the BMW M3 and M5. The Cadillac CTS-V was a true sport sedan, albeit 50 years late to the party, as was the Chevrolet SS, the true successor to the E39 M5, which is perhaps the best sports sedan of all time. Has Japan ever made a true sports sedan? Nissan thought so with the Maxima 4DSC, but Lexus made a true contender with the IS300 and with today’s ISF and GSF. Infiniti nailed the second-generation M45. VW’s had the Jetta GLI since the original Mk1. But the sport sedan that both Carmudgeons lust after is the Opel / Vauxhall Lotus Carlton. ==The Carmudgeon Show is a comedic, information-filled conversation with Jason Cammisa and Derek Tam-Scott, two car enthusiasts who are curmudgeonly beyond their years. Proving you don’t have to be old to be grumpy, they spend each episode talking about what’s wrong with various parts of the automotive universe. Despite their best efforts to keep it negative, they usually wind up laughing, happy, and extolling their love for cars. Which just makes them angrier and more bitter.Jason Cammisa is an automotive journalist, social-media figure, and TV host with over 250 million views on YouTube alone. Jason’s deeply technical understanding, made possible by a lifelong obsession with cars, allows him to fully digest what’s going on within an automobile — and then put it into simple terms for others to understand. Also, a Master’s Degree in Law trained him to be impossible to argue with. Derek Tam-Scott still tries. He’s a young automotive expert with old-man taste in cars, and a Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering — which means he knows how to be civil to Jason. Or at least he tries. With a decade and a half’s experience buying, selling, driving and brokering classic and exotic cars, he’s experienced the world’s most iconic cars. And hated most of them. For every cyclist competing in a professional bike race, there's seemingly a corresponding vehicle. But it's not an exact parallel. In fact, in top-level races, there are several times more team, organization, media and sponsor vehicles, equipment trucks, fans' motorhomes and police cars and motorcycles than competitors. Like the cyclists, race vehicles get down time at hotels, but otherwise, they're all almost always on the move, climbing mountains, negotiating narrow roads and descending at top speeds. Team managers Michael Sayers and Michael Creed are driving the cars during every stage. Scott Schnitzspahn, USA Cycling's vice president of Elite Athletics, has often piloted the third vehicle. Several European manufacturers, including Fiat, Citroën, Peugeot and Renault, have also had partnerships with the Tour de France and other international cycling events. All of the vehicles' drivers enthusiastically praised the Volvo V60s as ideal vehicles in bike racing caravans but simultaneously as luxury wagons. Co-hosts Bruce Aldrich and I discuss the Volvo and my vehicle during the 14th annual event, a 2019 Volkswagen GLI, in Episode #87 of The Weekly Driver Podcast. I've driven from start to finish during the race's editions, this year from Sacramento to South Lake Tahoe and then on a North to South route toward the finish in Pasadena on May 18. I've driven about 900 miles so far in the Jetta GLI, and it has performed admirably as a four-door sedan with a sports car persona. For example, it's rated at 32 mph on the freeway. I've averaged 35.6 mpg. Bruce, who hosts the episode from Sacramento, and I also talk about the history of vehicles in the Tour de France. I'm reporting from during a morning break before continuing to the end of stage 4 in Morro Bay, California. The Weekly Driver encourages and appreciates feedback from our listeners. 2019 VW Jetta GLI Review The long-anticipated 2019 Volkswagen Jetta GLI has officially made it to dealers like our partner in the Los Angeles suburb of Ontario, CA - Ontario Volkswagen. And we took it for a test drive to bring you this in-depth 2019 Volkswagen Jetta GLI Review. The GLI is the enthusiasts, sporty model, of the Jetta. Volkswagen updated its standard line of Jetta's in the previous year. So, with these 2019 models, Volkswagen marks the 7th generation of GLIs and Jettas. And actually, in VW-lingo that's 'Mark 7 or Mk7.' 2019 Volkswagen Jetta GLI Top-3 1. Exterior Styling. 2. The Drive. 3. Warranty. My friends at Ontario VW gave me a Jetta GLI for a day recently. Here's my complete report after running around Southern California's Inland Empire and getting a feel for the all-new 2019 VW Jetta GLI! May 7, 2019 Volkswagen Jetta GLI Review The Volkswagen Jetta GLI has historically been compared to its VW hatchback (hot hatch in VW-lingo) sibling the Golf GTI. Why? Well, they're both Volkswagens and both the sporty/enthusiasts trims of their respective models. Personally, I like both for different reasons. I'll contrast the two vehicles, only once, in a moment. 2019 Volkswagen Jetta GLI 35th Anniversary Edition driver front With the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta GLI being in its 7th generation that equates to 35-years here in the United States. And those 35-years are honored in one of the trim options for the 2019 VW Jetta GLI. And, it just so happens that, my test-driver was a 35th Anniversary Edition GLI. Jetta GLI & Golf GTI So here's the cool comparison I'm going to give the 2019 VW Jetta GLI 35th Anniversary Edition and the 2019 Golf GTI Rabbit Edition. Volkswagen's stylish, yet in-the-know and subtle seat tags. '19 VW Jetta GLI 35th Anniversary seat tag Okay, one other comparison, with the GTI and the GLI both being the sporty trims, is the very cool red line across the grills of both vehicles. '19 VW Golf GTI Rabbit Edition seat tag It's in all sorts of pics. BTW, wondering what GTI and GLI stand for? 2019 VW Jetta GLI badge Those are acronyms for Grand Touring Injection and Grand Luxury Injection. 2019 VW Golf GTI badge So to put the comparisons of the Jetta GLI and the Golf GTI to rest, at least for this post, the Golf is going to be sportier and a hatchback. Whereas the Jetta GLI is a sedan and slightly less aggressive. Trim Options & Pricing The '19 VW Jetta GLI is offered in three different trims. 2019 VW Jetta GLI Trims & MSRPs: S (base model) $25,995 35th Anniversary Edition $26,995 Autobahn $29,195 As always, don't worry about the MSRP - manufacturer's suggested retail price - for two reasons. First, you need to get your '19 VW Jetta GLI equipped to your specifications. And more importantly, go see my friends at Ontario Volkswagen. Beyond putting you in the car you want and at the best price, they're not going to play any of the old school (or new school!) games. 2019 Volkswagen Jetta GLI 35th Anniversary front The guys and gals at Ontario Volkswagen are my friends and I'm happy to personally introduce you. Just email me tom [at] idrivesocal [dot] com. Powertrain & MPG Volkswagen's 2019 Jetta GLI comes with the same engine across all three trims. That's a 2-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder that puts out 228-horsepower with 258 lb-ft of torque. 2019 VW Jetta GLI 35 passenger profile The '19 Jetta GLI comes standard with a 6-speed manual transmission. And I love driving manual on open roads and low-traffic conditions. Of course, here in Southern California, we're hardpressed to find either of those settings. So the optional 7-speed automatic transmission is probably the way to go. 2019 VW Jetta GLI 35 Ontario VW plate My test driver hand the automatic transmission option and it's Tiptronic shifting offered the fun and control of manual while delivering the convenienc...
Introduction This is the Northern 90 Podcast with Pat Sweet, Episode 12. Welcome to the Northern 90 Canadian Premier League Podcast, covering the beautiful game in the great white north. For more Canadian Premier League content, head over to Northern90.ca. That’s Northern Nine Zero dot ca. Welcome Hello, Canada, and welcome to the Northern 90 Canadian Premier League Podcast! I'm your host, Pat Sweet. This week, I'm sharing the top five kits that came out in last week's big kit reveal party. News In this week's headlines: From the Last Word on Soccer blog there was a good rundown of Jeff Paulus' views on FC Edmonton's preseason so far.In genral he's quite pleased, except for the first 15 minutes of their friendly against Cavalry FC. The best quote from the piece was on that match having been a friendly. Paulus said "there will never be a friendly against us and Calgary.” Finally, Mediapro's long-awaited streaming service has been announced. One Soccer 24/7 will be the digital home for all 98 Canadian Premier League games this year. Many will have noticed that One Soccer was the kit sponsor for both FC Edmonton and Valour FC. The online channel will also have men's and women's national team domestic games, as well as the Canadian Championship. No word on price. If you go to Onesoccer.ca you can sign up for their mailing list to be notified of news related to the service. From there, you'll also note that there will be Apple App Store and Google Play apps coming soon. Also, the league recently announced what they're calling the Volkswagen Premier Performer program. This is a scoring system that will incorporate a number of different metrics and stats to rank players throughout the year, with the top overall player winning a 2019 Jetta GLI. For those of you familiar with MLS, they have the Audi Player Index, which sounds very similar to this. I'm excited about this because it means real stats are going to be collected on the players, which is one of my favourite things to dig into in pro sports. CanPL Kit Report Cards In this segment, I'm going to share what I think are the top five kits that were recenrly released, using my own highly sophisticated, yet entirely arbitrary grading system. First, I'll explain the system. I'm grading each kit on five criteria: First impression - What was my first reaction when I saw the kit? Attention to detail - After really studying the kit, what did I find? Originality - is this just some boring "mail it in" kit, or is this something truly new and interesting? Relevance to the club - How well thought out is the design with respect to the club and it's city? Fan reaction - What do the fans think? Next, I weighted each of the criteria based on how important I think they are on a scale of 0 - 1, with the total of all weights adding up to 1. This means that if something scored really high on a criterial that isn't super important compared to the others, that that would come out in the wash. First impression: 0.1 Attention to detail: 0.3 Originality: 0.2 Revevance to the club: 0.2 Fan reaction: 0.2 Next, I gave every kit a score from 1 to 5 on each criterion, adjusted them according to the weighting, and came up with my overall winner. Can you tell I'm an engineer? In this episode, I'll run through my favourite 5 kits, starting from position 5 up to number one. If you want to see how every kit stacked up, just head to the show notes to see the whole scorecard at northern90.ca/episode12. 4/5. Tie Pacific FC's Away Kit and York 9 FC's Home Kit Pacific FC Away What it looks like: The kit is lagoon blue, which most people will call teal, with three v-shaped waves on the front, purple accents, and a small trident on the bottom of the back. Again, my first reaction wasn't great, but the detail is awesome. The three V's represent Victory, Vitality, and Vancouver Island I'm just impressed that they pulled off the colour scheme. This kit scored high on both originality and attention to detail York 9 FC Home Simple, bold. Great first impression. Crystal clear who the team is. Very unique. Maybe not the most creative Trillium flower and the 9 communities on the back are a nice touch Scored well on first impression and originality 3. FC Edmonton's Home Kit Awesome combination of blues to represent the prarie sky and the Saskatechewan River. I especially like the navy blue "melange" colour Ralley Rabbit on the back is awesome. The Ralley Rabbit has been part of the club since the very start, so that's a great nod to the club's past. The club has always worn blue. This kit scored high on the first impression, relevance to the club, and fan reaction 2. HFX Wanderers FC Home Didn't think much of it at first. It wasn't until I got home that I noticed the citadel pattern, which is awesome Our Harbour, out Home, Our Soul in Gaelic on the back. Great colour I love the colar, my wife not so much. Lukily, the women's cut doesn't have that, so hopefully that'll be an option with her season tickets. This kit scored well on attention to detail and originality 1. All of Valour FC's Kits Valour FC knocked it out of the park. Both their kits tied for first place. I absolutely love them both. They're unique, well thought out, and while both totally different, very much in line with a unified club identity. Home Marroon - basic colour scheme meant to match the logo. All based on the Victoria Cross - Canada's highest honour Different front half-panels, which I didn't notice at first. The right half has embossed vertical lines. Again, inspired by the texture of the Victoria Cross Nothing on the back in terms of logo Away All black with the maroon dot design on the chest - meant to symbolise the forks, which is where the Red River and the Assinaboine meet. Huge V logo on the back, which has a W embedded to represent both Valour and Winnipeg. Both kits scored well across the board, and were very clearly the neutral's choice for best kit. Overall Report Card General observations Natural elements are a common theme Water in Pacific FC, Edmonton, Halifax, Valours' away kit pattern on the chest is meant to symbolise the forks - the meeting of the Assinoboine and the Red River Foothills, rocky mountains, spruce meadows, the Trillium flower York 9's away kit's hoops are symbolic of the York Regional forrest The prairie sky for FC Edmonton's home kit Military influence Cavalry FC Valour FC Halifax citadel I really hope the detail shows on TV. I had a hard time noticing much of the fine detail that was infused into the kits during the launch. I really hope it doesn't get lost on TV. Be sure to check out your club's store through their website or canpl.ca. It looked like there was going to be a bunch more Macron gear coming out, so definitely check that out so that you can get kitted up and support your club. Next up, the mailbag. Mailbag Some great messages and ideas this week to share with you. Matt from St. John, New Brunswick wrote to say he had just discovered the show after a buddy of his told him about it. He's a bit bummed that there's no team local to him yet, which I totaly sympathize with. I can totally see a team coming to Moncton at some point with the infrastucture that's there from Women's World Cup and for what kind of population there is within a 2 hour drive. ALSO, the rivalry with Halifax would be awesome. Also, for all the other listeners out there - be like Matt's buddy and tell your friends about the show! That's awesome! Iain wrote from the UK to let us know that we've got a fan on that side of the pond, which is awesome. I'm continuously amazed by how much mail I get from places outside Canada. James from Forge FC wrote to compliment the show and suggest a scarf swap when he's here in Halifax, which is awesome. If anyone else is in town and wants to trade scarves, let me know, because that would be awesome. What do you think? If you've listened to the show, you know I love to hear from you guys - especially with this being my first episode featuring an interview. I'd love to know what you think of this deal. You can: Leave a comment at northern90.ca/episode12 Write to me at pat at northern90.ca Fire me a note on Twitter @northernninety Outroduction That's all we've got for the show today. 2019 Volkswagen Jetta - All-New Generation Our 2019 Volkswagen Jetta review uncovered impressive and intuitive technology, increased and upscale interior space, performance and much more. Additionally, the new design looks great. iDriveSoCal's Professor, Clinton Quan, picked up an all-new 2019 VW Jetta to review from our friends at Ontario Volkswagen – hear his complete analysis in this iDSC Podcast. ***Transcript*** Recorded in Los Angeles, CA The All-New 2019 Volkswagen Jetta Review Professor: The all-new Volkswagen Jetta has a different engine now. Very smooth, brisk acceleration. It feels a lot more premium compared to the previous Jetta, especially with that virtual dash, everything is right there at your fingertips, so it makes it really, really easy to operate. Tom: Welcome to iDriveSoCal, the podcast all about mobility from the automotive capital of the United States; Southern California. Tom Smith here with the Professor, Mr. Clinton Quan. Say hello, Clinton. Professor: Hi, Tom. The 2019 VW Jetta is bigger and beautiful! Tom: And today, we are talking about our good friends out at Ontario Volkswagen in the Los Angeles suburb of Ontario, California. Specifically, a vehicle review. The 2019 Volkswagen Jetta. Now, to clarify before we throw it over to the Professor; the 2018 Jetta GLI, we just reviewed about a month, two months ago. Professor: Yes. Tom: So, that is the enthusiast's version, right? Professor: Correct. Tom: And as we discussed there, and I think in subsequent podcasts since, the Jetta was just completely redone. So this is an all-new Jetta. Volkswagen Jetta Enters Its 7th Generation Professor: This is in the 2019- Tom: All-new Jetta. And- Professor: The seventh generation. All-new 2019 Volkswagen Jetta Tom: Seventh Generation, and the enthusiasts' seventh generation, the GLI. We're under the impression that Volkswagen is going to be putting that out. They haven't announced that yet, but they're going to be putting that out, probably in the next year. Professor: Probably next year-ish. Tom: What have you. But so, this review is the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta. Take it away, Professor. 2019 Volkswagen Jetta Trim Configurations & MSRPs Professor: I drove the top-line trim, which is the SEL premium and for the 2019 Jetta, there are five trims. You have the S, which is the base trim; which starts at about $19,000. Then you have what I call the "mid-level trim", the SE. Around $22,000. Then you have a special sport trim that's called the "R-line". That's about $23,000. MQB Platformed 7th Generation VW Jetta Then you've got the... You could call it the top-line, the SEL. That's about $24,000. And then you have this new luxury, premium top-of-the-line SEL Premium, which is about $27,000. Tom: And that's what you drove. So you drove all the bells and whistles. Professor: Yes. It's got the virtual dash, so it's very Audi-esque like. Non-Professional Reviews of the 2019 VW Jetta Tom: And so, just a quick plug also for some of... So, Clinton and I review a lot of vehicles, and Clinton's an enthusiast. But if you wanted to hear from an everyday driver, we were out at the Jetta Launch Party at Ontario Volkswagen. I guess this is about a month-ish ago. We did some reviews with various customers that were coming in just to drive for the Launch Party. Jetta Digital Cockpit They came in to check out the new Jetta, and so I think there are about five different podcasts that we did. They're little short ones, about five, six minutes each. They're with these everyday drivers that we did these podcasts with, they're enthusiasts in their own right, but Clinton and I do this all the time. So, he's a little bit of a professional. If you want to check out the other Jetta reviews, there are lots of great things that everybody is saying about the 2019 Jetta. 2019 Volkswagen Jetta Reviews from SoCal Drivers:
2018 Volkswagen Jetta GLI The 2018 Jetta GLI is the enthusiast's compact car from Volkswagen. Great European styling with sport acceleration, braking, and handling plus fuel efficiency on top of it all. While the all-new 2019 Jetta's get ready to make their debut, if you're looking for the sport version, this very well may be the car for you. iDriveSoCal's Professor, Clinton Quan, picked one up from our friends at Ontario Volkswagen for a complete analysis – hear it all in this iDSC Podcast. 2018 Volkswagen Jetta GLI ***Transcript*** Recorded in Los Angeles, CA 2018 Volkswagen Jetta GLI - Compact Sports Sedan Clinton: This car is for someone who wants a compact car but wants something that's sportier, more fun to drive than your typical compact car. So if you're looking for something that's also fuel-efficient but that's fun to drive on the highway and on mountain roads, and you like going on scenic drives, this is the car for you. "This car is for someone who wants a compact car but wants something that's sportier, more fun to drive than your typical compact car." I think the three-spoke steering wheel is my favorite feature of the car. Love the large, sporty gauges. It handles really well. And the power, 210 horsepower 207 pound-feet of torque. Tom: Welcome to iDriveSoCal, the podcast all about mobility from the automotive capital of the United States--Southern California. I'm Tom Smith. And joining me for another vehicle review is our good friend "the Professor" Clinton Quan. Say hello, Clinton. Clinton: Hi, Tom; it's great to be back for another automotive review. 2018 VW Jetta Courtesy of Ontario VW Tom: Always happy to have you, my friend. Today we are reviewing our first Volkswagen from our newest dealer partner, our good friends out at Ontario Volkswagen. And, Clinton is going to review the 2018 Volkswagen Jetta but the sporty version, which is the GLI. Before I throw it over to you, Clinton, I want to give a shout out to Earl Reed, who is the general manager out at Ontario Volkswagen. Thank you for coming on board. And Randy Halcomb, who is marketing guru, thank you for coming on board. Clinton, tell us about the 2018 VW Jetta GLI! 2018 Volkswagen Jetta Trim Levels & Prices Clinton: I test drove the 2018 Volkswagen Jetta GLI. The Jetta is Volkswagen's compact sedan. The GLI is the sport version of the Jetta. And there are six trims in the Jetta family and three engines. "...features a 2.0-liter engine turbocharge inline 4 and that produces 210 horsepower and 207 pound-feet of torque. That starts at about $30,000." The base Jetta is the S which starts at about $19,000. Then you have the Wolfsburg edition at about $20,000, the SE at $21,000. And, all three of those trims feature a 1.4-liter inline 4-cylinder turbocharged engine producing 150 horsepower, 184 pound-feet of torque. Then you move up to the SE Sport which is about $23,000 dollars, and then the SEL which starts at about $26,000. Those two trims feature a 1.8-liter inline 4 turbocharged engine producing 170 horsepower. It's also rated at 184 pound-feet of torque. And then you move up to the top of the line trim which is the Jetta GLI, the one I drove, and that features a 2.0-liter engine turbocharge inline 4 and that produces 210 horsepower and 207 pound-feet of torque. That starts at about $30,000. 6th & 7th Generation VW Jetta - aka Mk6 & Mk7 Tom: Another outstanding feat of granular recollection of detail. Folks, Clinton and I are just sitting here talking. I, of course, have my pen in hand, notepad in front of me. Clinton is just going off the top of his head with these details of the vehicles, so that's why we call him "the Professor." Thank you much for all those details, as always. You drove the GLI, the sporty version. "It's got plenty of power, especially with that 270 pound-feet of torque and 210 horsepower." And to clarify, not long from now,
