Dr. Benjamin Halligan joins John Bleasdale to talk about Hotbeds of Licentiousness, the first substantial critical engagement with British pornography on film across the 1970s, including the “Summer of Love,” the rise and fall of the Permissive Society, the arrival of Margaret Thatcher, and beyond. By focusing on a series of colorful filmmakers whose work, while omnipresent during the 1970s, now remains critically ignored, author Benjamin Halligan discusses pornography in terms of lifestyle aspirations and opportunities which point to radical changes in British society. In this way, pornography is approached as a crucial optic with which to consider recent cultural and social history.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/writers-on-film. Hosted on Acast. Dear Ones,I think a lot about what women have experienced in our lives and the evolution of our rights. I am grateful to be raised by women who were laborers, carpenters, seamstresses, potters…even plumbers. My mom Caron used to brag that her mother Eden could plumb a whole house and shoe a horse lol. She could also fix most machines, made our clothing and could feed us from her garden. I think about how the brain development of our ancestors and grandparents would be so different than it is today, simply based on the way we use to labor. I love to labor and use my body and I know it is because of what they taught me - to use my hands and my body. I do not know the origins of this photo but I read that they are in men's overalls - I have a pair like those myself, and that they are Dutch women. Today's episode is just a teensy story about remembering to truly hold the vision and how Intentional Creativity can help us do just that. Shiloh Sophia Who wears the pants: On May 28th, 1923, the US Attorney General declared that it was legal for women to wear trousers anywhere. Women dressed as men for many reasons: practical necessity, fighting in wars, independence, safety from rape and murder while traveling, orientation or identity, etc. Legal restrictions and punishments were necessary because, “by wearing pants, women appropriated male dress, and by association, male privilege, and power.” Punishment ranged from burning at the stake to prison time and using sexist character assassination: for wearing Turkish trousers, Frances Wright (1795-1852) was called “The Great Red Harlot of Infidelity, The W***e of Babylon, The Voluptuous Preacher of Licentiousness, The Priestess of Beelzebub, Miss Epicene Wright,” etc. Dress codes were used as a loophole: female senators were banned from wearing trousers on the senate floor until 1993. We all had those friends...you know... the ones that would only listen to christian music and would only watch christian moves. They probably watched the "Left Behind" series a million times, and read all of the books. We also know those friends that listen to the craziest music and spend every Saturday night going to the most wild parties, only to wake up incredibly tired and show up to church to "atone for their sins". Which friend is right? Are they both wrong? Is it ok to enjoy things of the world? Join Matt and Jonathan as they discuss Legalism vs Licentiousness.

Ephesians 1-3 have given many wonderful statements of what God did for us in Christ. Ephesians 4-6 will now give the implications of how that should work out in our life. We should delight in obeying God because of what He did for us in Christ. But how do we avoid the pitfalls on either side of the road, legalism and licentiousness? Pastor Mollenkopf guides our thinking.
“Just a reminder in case you haven't realize this yet: abortion is the greatest sacrament in the alternative religion of Secular Progressivism, or in this case Satanism. This misunderstanding between Liberty and Licentiousness is at the root of nearly every political disagreement today. Liberty is not the freedom to do whatever you want. Liberty is the freedom to do as you ought.” Seth Gruber!

Let's open our Bibles to Romans 6:15-18. Either you are a slave of sin, resulting in death, or you are a slave of obedience, resulting in righteousness 1. If you think that being under grace means that you are free to sin, you do not understand God's grace a. Legalists - they put people back under the law by emphasizing rules for what they consider to be holy living b. Licentiousness - if we are under grace then sin doesn't matter c. Both are two sides of the same coin whose operating principle is the flesh d. The result of God's grace is to make us slaves of righteousness, not lawlessness 2. The only options are: You give yourself to be a slave of sin, resulting in death; or you give yourself to be a slave of obedience, resulting in righteousness a. The master you obey shows whose slave you are b. Obedience is not the means to salvation, but rather the result of it c. Everybody serves somebody or something 3. The only way that you can change from being a slave of sin to being a slave of righteousness is for God to free you from sin by changing your heart a. Salvation is neither a human project nor a joint human-divine project; rather, salvation is of the Lord i. Slaves of sin are not able to free themselves by their own efforts b. The way God changes us is by bringing our mind, heart, and will into submission to His word i. The evidence of this change of mind and heart is that our wills gladly obey the truth c. The teaching is not committed to the Christians, but rather the Christians are committed to the teaching i. Being a Christian means being put under the authority of God's Word d. When God saves you, He frees you from sin and makes you a slave of righteousness i. We no longer live under sin as our master
For The Life of The World: The FPC Greenville, Alabama Podcast
This is the sermon for the Lord's Day, November 6, 2022.
They are ungodly people, who pervert the grace of our God into a license for immorality and deny Jesus Christ our only Sovereign and Lord. — Jude 1:4 The small book of Jude is about people who are part of the church but mistake the grace of God for a license to do whatever they want. Jude points out that by their actions these people deny that Jesus is the Lord of their lives. If they are not serving Jesus, whom are they serving? Many sins seem good in the moment. The question we often fail to ask is, “How does this actually benefit me?” Or if we do ask that question, we settle for a superficial answer. Sometimes we may not feel sure that doing things God's way will bring much of a benefit—or perhaps the benefit God offers won't come about for a long time. To truly follow Christ means to live as he lived. It means treating his grace not as a license to sin but as a license to grow away from sin. Jude makes clear that we often can't tell when people who sin without remorse have “slipped in among” us. It's easy to be confused because although we try to live into Christ's freedom from sin, we often mess up too. All Christians sin, and Jesus forgives us for that. But living as if our sins don't matter in this world can cause tremendous hurt and pain to others and ourselves. So let's not be fooled—real freedom belongs to those who choose to follow Christ. Lord Jesus, show us the damages of our sin, and transform us to want to live your way always. Amen.
We are set free from sin, not so that we can live however we want but so that we can live to please the Lord. Holiness is not legalism. Gospel freedom means that we no longer have to sin but can live unto righteousness. Devotionables #356: 1 Peter 2:24

Shay About the Band 30 years of Subterfuge. 30 years of indie pop from Düsseldorf. Having grown up together – jointly, side by side and for each other – and with hundreds of true tales in the backpack, here is their new album Dots. Dots. is nothing less than a biography. Not only that of Subterfuge, ours as well. Vibrant and ever-changing harmonic vocals about life as it is: warm and touching, surprising, dissonant, full of love and also brittle at times. College rock with kids on the passenger seat. Metropoli- tan country, Subpop in perfection – often 60s, preferably psychedelic, but never aiming for a downfall. Rather the opposite – their fifth album turns out to be their most positive. And it's the musical coincidence of six boys that know they will have each other for life. Dr. Michael Easley teaches from Philippians 3:12-16 "Not that I have already obtained it or have already become perfect, but I press on so that I may lay hold of that for which also I was laid hold of by Christ Jesus. Brethren, I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. Let us therefore, as many as are perfect, have this attitude; and if in anything you have a different attitude, God will reveal that also to you; however, let us keep living by that same standard to which we have attained."

Here's this week's message!
Dr. Michael Easley continues his exegesis of Philippians with chapter 3 verses 12-16. The call to Christian liberty gives us freedom to obey Christ and live without guilt or shame. As we work out our salvation with fear and trembling, we must remember that we are not working for our salvation. Christ has accomplished it all through his death on the cross, and now we are sanctified day by day to become more like Him.
Pastor and author David Guzik joins the podcast this week to talk about the topic of Christian liberty. How do we make sense of "gray areas," things like drinking alcohol, tattoos, smoking tobacco, music choices, etc. about which some Christians have strong convictions that Christians should never do those things, whereas others feel that they can enjoy these things in moderation without any conflict with their fidelity to following Jesus? How do we honor one another without being held hostage by every person's personal whim? David helps shed some light on these and other questions related to this topic. David is the author of a free online commentary of the entire Bible which can be found at EnduringWord.com, along with the audio and video archives of David's teachings through books of the Bible. Make sure to check out his weekly Q&A sessions on his YouTube Channel, Thursdays at 12:00 PM Pacific. Y. Yvon Wang draws on previously untapped archives--ranging from police archives and surveys to ephemeral texts and pictures--to argue that pornography in China represents a unique configuration of power and desire that both reflects and shapes historical processes. On the one hand, since the late imperial period, pornography has democratized pleasure in China and opened up new possibilities of imagining desire. As always we are using Tim Keller's "Galatians for You" as our guide through the epistle. In this section Paul begins to start applying the theological points he has been making in Chapters 1-4. He challenges us to walk in our Christian liberty but that doesn't mean that we are free to live any way we want. The freedom we have in Jesus is the freedom to be who we were created to be and that means following Jesus. This is a really important section of the book because Paul shows us how the true gospel helps us walk the line between legalism and licentiousness.
ALL THINGS NEW: Grace Beyond BordersThis week Paul defines the GOSPEL by showing us: The predicament of the gospel, the power of the gospel, and the purpose of the gospel.Journey Church defines the gospel as: “the good news of what Jesus has done to restore broken creation and sinful people to their holy creator. It is the true story of humankind’s relationship with God, which is marred by sin and restored by grace through faith in Christ alone.” Spend some time as a group talking about this definition. This weekend we talked about the phenomenon of the ECHO CHAMBER. Why do you think it is important for us to recognize this phenomenon. In what ways do you experience it? What are some ways we can break out of the ECHO CHAMBER? How does the gospel disrupt your life? Read Ephesians 2:1-3 together as a group. Go around and share how this was/is your story? Why is it important to remember? This weekend we talked about the difference between Legalism & Licentiousness. What side of the spectrum do you tend to fall on? How is this destructive to your faith and life?Read Ephesians 2:8-10 together as a group. What is this passage saying? How does it change the way you live?

Stillborn Christians think being a Christian is just saying a sinner’s prayer. We don’t just “find the Lord” when we become a Christian. God calls people and transforms them into His image. Most “Christians” never die to self. A seed of life was planted in them, but the seeds were never watered and the plant […]
Having thoroughly condemned the theological error which animated the Judaizers, (Namely requirements of the law as a prerequisite for salvation) The Apostle turns his attention to another prevalent error: that of Licentiousness (acting lawlessly with antinomian disregard for holiness as if your status grants you license to pursue your worst desires). Gal 5:1 provides a helpful conceptual theme to organize Paul's thoughts in this regard, he has said: “For freedom Christ has set us free, stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery”. The 2nd portion of chapter 5 warns of other 'yokes of slavery'. While men are easily ensnared by arbitrary standards of piety and pursue woks as a means of atonement Paul addresses a yoke of a different type here: the works of the flesh. In so doing, Paul extends a larger structural theme of his epistle to the Galatians – that of pointed contrasts. As commentators have noted: this distinction between Spirit and flesh joins the list he has compiled to this point including: True Gospel vs. false Gospel, faith vs. works, law vs. grace, liberty vs. legalism, and sonship vs. salvation...
We're discussing these fabley sides of the pendulum: hyper-grace and works-based salvation.
It is impossible to understand the message of the Bible without seriously considering the Law of God. In many ways, the Bible is a book that is all about the law of God, and the relationship that humanity is to have with it. This can be a shocking statement to modern Christians. Listen as Pastor Marc Sharp discusses "Jesus And The Law". Did Jesus remove the burden of the law for us so that we don’t have to give its demands a second thought?

Some, when they hear of God’s grace, wrongly conclude that it gives a person a license to sin. Paul shows us that grace actually binds the believer up in the glory of Christ so that we seek to know him and live for him all the more.
As we continued our series, "Grace Changes Everything: A Survey of Romans" this week we jumped ahead to chapter 6. We asked the important question, "Can we keep on sinning since grace will keep on covering?"We looked at Paul's powerful and convicting answer to this question.

Hottest Elderly Church Calendar Ever? Arrrr You Serious? Law Without Gospel Leads to Licentiousness The Necessity of Biblical Theology With Christ at the Center Are Evangelicals Dangerous? Stupid Human Tricks - A Life Well Wasted by Brian Bloye
Clean from licentiousness
The Mount Sinai event was public revelation. The Mosaic Law is defined in terms of a personal relationship. The biblical view versus the pagan view of values, ethics, and law. In a sinless environment, it was essential for God to define things. How much more in a fallen environment. Fallen man, at the deepest level, is insecure because he knows he’s offensive to God. How the Pharisees bureaucratized the Law. Paganism always seesaws between legalism and licentiousness. Free grace versus lordship salvation. Questions and answers.
