The boundary between imagination and technology blurs in Lila Tirando a Violeta's mesmerizing sonic experiments. From her early DIY noise experiments in Uruguay to her current position as one of electronic music's most distinctive emerging voices, Lila's creativity has flourished despite—or perhaps because of—the challenges of living with a chronic condition. When health issues confined her to hospitals and home at age 23, Lila found herself transitioning from improvisational performance to structured composition. The internet became both her music school and lifeline, leading to collaborations with artists like Loraine James and Amnesia Scanner—relationships that began digitally before materializing in the physical world. This digital-first approach mirrors the themes in her work, particularly her fascination with David Cronenberg's Videodrome, which she references in her new album "Dream of Snakes."What makes Lila's creative process so compelling is her transformation of limitation into innovation. She samples her own pulsating tinnitus, captures field recordings from hospital rooms, and builds intricate sonic collages without formal training. Though her aesthetic suggests urban futurism, she's found her creative sanctuary in the quiet Irish countryside, where nature and technology intertwine in unexpected ways. Most striking is Lila's openness about navigating the music industry—from including special lighting requests in her rider to dealing with international promoters who expect her to play reggaeton simply because of her South American heritage. If you're enjoying Lost and Sound, please do subscribe and leave a rating or review on Apple, Spotify, Amazon, or wherever you listen. Was will dieses Album von uns? Loraine James is one of the most forward-thinking artists in electronic music today. Her sound is instinctive, fluid, and deeply personal—whether she's crafting glitchy, jazz-infused beats, bending genre expectations on Hyperdub, or exploring mood and texture through her Whatever the Weather project. In this episode of Lost and Sound, Loraine talks about her approach to making music without rigid plans, letting emotion and instinct guide the process. She shares insights into the creative freedom that shapes her work, from improvisation to embracing imperfections in her own way. We also dive into the personal themes in her music, including the deeply moving 2003, a track that reflects on loss and memory. With a new Whatever The Weather album out now on Ghostly International, Loraine talks about the balance between control and spontaneity, how she navigates external expectations without compromising her sound, and why she's never been interested in fitting into any one scene. Thoughtful, open, and refreshingly down-to-earth, I feel we got a rare look into the mindset of an artist constantly pushing her own boundaries. If you're enjoying Lost and Sound, please do subscribe and leave a rating or review on Apple, Spotify, Amazon, or wherever you listen. I am delighted to introduce Gordi to the podcast this week. Gordi (born Sophie Peyton) is an Australian singer-songwriter whose music I describe as 'a punch to the heart', in the best way possible. Gordi has had an unbelievable career so far, in a relatively short space of time. Her debut album Reservoir is a particular favourite of mine. Her debut single Can We Work It Out was featured on the Vampire Diaries, her 2017 single Heaven I Know was featured on the tenth season of The Walking Dead. She also co-wrote the theme song for the Oscar-nominated animated short The Mitchell's vs. The Machines. She has toured extensively across the globe and worked with some incredible artists, including Bon Iver, The Tallest Man on Earth, Gang of Youths, Julien Baker, Ben Bohmer, The Blaze, Helado Negro, Loraine James and Maggie Lindemann. De eso trata este álbum que se presenta con una joya titulada 'Floating On A Moment'.Playlist:Kelela - Divorce (Loraine James Remix)Loraine James, Marina Herlop - While They Were SingingVerde Prato, BRONQUIO - Maite, Nauzu ZaharkatuJlin - AusetSega Bodega - Deer TeethBjörk, ROSALÍA - OralSerpentwithfeet - safe wordHelado Negro - Colores Del MarSufjan Stevens - Will Anybody Ever Love MeSaintseneca - Soft AxeBrittany Howard - Prove It To YouRomeo + Juliet - Hardy BoyzTORRES - I got the fearBeth Gibbons - Floating On A MomentEscuchar audio
We're back after a four month hiatus to bring you our list of the top 100 albums of 2023. Is it, at bare minimum, a month and a half late? Yes. By "we" do we mean "just Brad because Sean wouldn't want any part of this nonsense"? Yes again. But whatever, we're doing it anyway. It has been another great year for music, which at this point should not be shocking. We've got incredible team-ups galore, big names from the past making a mark in the present, new names bursting on to the scene, everything and the kitchen sink albums, spoken word weirdness, hip-hop standard bearers still innovating, gloopy synths, the sounds of a haunted house, and above all else, a lot of very aggressive, noisy music. It was a hell of a year. So... enjoy? (We'll be back to our regularly scheduled programming... eventually. Probably soon. We are still reeling from the Detroit Lions losing the NFC Championship game, so it might be a while) Artists Discussed (In Alphabetical Order): 2FAC, Aaron Dilloway, Aho Ssan, Altin Gun, Ana Frango Elétrico, Armand Hammer, Bandler Ching, BBBBBBB, Bill Orcutt, Billy Woods & Kenny Segal, Bounaly, Brass Riot, Bully, Caterina Barbieri, Charif Megarbane, Colin Stetson, Dead Times, Deena Abdelwahed, Disclosure, Divide and Dissolve, DJ Finale, DJ Girl, DJ Smiley Bobby, EABS & Jaubi, El Michels Affair & Black Thought, Ellen Arkbro, Embarker, Emergency Group, Euglossine, Fever Ray, Fire Toolz, Forest Swords, Gazelle Twin, Gezan & Million Wish Collective, Great Falls, Guilty Simpson & Uncommon NASA, Hitech, Hourloupe, Hyphyskazerbox, ICECOLDBISHOP, Jana Winderen, Janelle Monáe, Jlin, JPEGmafia & Danny Brown, Judgitzu, Karen y los Remedios, Katarsi, KEN Mode, Kool Keith & Real Bad Man, Kouns and Weaver, Larry Wish, Lauren Bousfield, Loraine James, Lost Girls, Lunch Money Life, Madlib, Meyhem Lauren, & DJ Muggs, Mallwalker, Marina Herlop, Matmos, MC Yallah, Mendoza Hoff Revels, MIKE, Mike Nigro, Model/Actriz, Mukqs, M-Ziq, Natalia Beylis & Eimear Reidy, Neupink, Novatron, Nuovo Testamento, Oozing Wound, OrangeTone, Organized Cream, Ortopedia Tecnica, Osees, Paavoharju, Physique, PoiL/Ueda, Private Lives, RP Boo, Screaming Females, Shit And Shine, Sightless Pit, Silver Apples & Makoto Kawabata, Sunik Kim, Sweeping Promises, TALSounds, Tee Vee Repairman, Teeth of the Sea, That Mexican OT, The Gate, The HIRS Collective, Tim Hecker, Tinashe, Tzusing, Victoria Monet, Vorsicht Kinder, Wound Man, Zoh Amba/Chris Corsano/Bill Orcutt --- Website: www.queenvenerator.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/queenvenerator/ Bluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/queenvenerator.bsky.social

Manchester based Iceboy Violet fuses experimental club music with warped pop abstraction, noise and rap, adding vulnerability and a cheeky northern humour to their rhymes. They have a candid conversation with Paul about creativity and authenticity.Since the release of the rapper, producer and performer's 2018 mixtape MOOK, they've been pushing boundaries, along the way collaborating with artists including Loraine James, Blackhaine, Space Afrika, Slikback and aya. They speak with Paul to coincide with the release of their latest project, ‘Not A Dream But A Controlled Explosion' - a project about the role desire and fantasy plays in our lives.Lost and Sound is proudly sponsored by Audio-TechnicaPaul's debut book, Coming To Berlin: Global Journeys Into An Electronic Music And Club Culture Capital is out now on Velocity Press. Die Londoner Produzentin Elles zeichnet auf ihrem Debütalbum „A Celebration Of The Euphoria Of Life“ eine Clubnacht nach. Auf ihrem zweiten Soloalbum „And Those Who Were Seen Dancing“ spielt die kanadische Musikerin Tess Parks schwer schleppende, verhallte Psychedelia. Dazu stellen wir 12 neue Songs des Monats vor: Zarte Breakbeats von Loraine James, 90s-Alternative-Pop von Been Stellar, IDM-Alleskönner von µ-Ziq, Sample-Monster von Four Tet, Art-Pop von Painting, 00er-Dubstep von Alix Perez uvm. In this episode of Awake All Hours, George starts by giving us all an insight into what went down at the much anticipated debut year of Risen Festival (08:28), a new festival for London with a completely non-male lineup. We then jump into album reviews, which features the self-titled debut from Whatever The Weather aka Loraine James (27:10), ‘Metamorphose' by modular synth and gear head JakoJako (46:10) and the astonishing world of ‘Sicko' by Oakland experimental artist Beast Nest (57:00). We finish, as always, with What's In My Bandcamp Basket (01:09:19), rounding up our favourite new club leaning cuts!
Anchorsong, Loraine James, Gold Panda and Sandunes discuss what song they'd make it they knew billions of people were going to listen to it, being guided by samples, the importance of keeping in the mistakes, and the art of making organic sounds. Masaaki Yoshida is better known as Anchorsong, an electronic musician and producer originally from Tokyo. He describes his music as being “borderless”, fusing dance music and samples with elements of rock, hip-hop and electronica. Sanaya Aredeshir, also known as Sandunes, is a composer, producer, and pianist from Mumbai, India who incorporates elements of dance and jazz to create something wholly unique. Derwin Schlecker, aka Gold Panda, is an electronic music producer and performer who creates “swirling electronic textures out of samples from pop, soul, hip-hop, or whatever happens to be lying around”. And finally, Loraine James is an experimental electronic adventurer and producer who's breaking new ground with her sound, and is one of the most exciting talents coming out of London right now. Her latest album, Reflections, is her most critically acclaimed work to date.
Loraine James is a Hyperdub-signed producer who uses IDM glitch aesthetics with an improvisational, jazz-rooted spirit and a unique talent for integrating her diverse influences into cohesive and emotive pieces. To submit your demo for consideration please visit http://lustwerkmusic.com/raveconfessions

On this episode of the Queen Venerator Roundup, we discuss more albums from 2021, including Loraine James, Olivia Rodrigo, Aaron Dilloway & Lucrecia Dalt, and Mdou Moctar.
London's Loraine James is as experimental as electronic artists get. She doesn't just make hard to categorise music, she makes music for which there are often no words. Depending on your mood, her sounds can suit either full-on dance floor workouts or reflective home listens. That has been the case across two standout albums on Hyperdub, both of which explore vulnerability and identity across tracks that fizz with ideas and energy. The most recent, Reflection back in June, came with snippets of interior monologue. They lay bare James's most intimate feelings while the beats around her continue to act as something of a safety blanket. This week's rule-breaking mix features a number of Loraine's tunes including the unnamed and exclusive opener, plus a flurry of beats from peers like FaltyDL, object blue, Squarepusher and Djrum. They make for a full body workout that twitches your every synapse one minute then sink you into a deeply seductive club sound the next. The transitions from hyper-polished and futuristic rhythms to live jazz drums, or icy dub to glitchy IDM, would seem impossible on paper, but in practice, they are executed perfectly.

ASTRYD was born from the energy of driving a room to dance. The two brothers are co-founders and residents of Bristol's Dialogue - parties which over the past four years have hosted the likes of Giant Swan, Machine Woman, object blue, Akua, Russell E. L. Butler, Loraine James and SPFDJ. These nights have carved out a niche in the Bristol scene, creating an ethos of queer-friendly spaces and diverse, forward thinking line-ups. ASTRYD's first single, Lapse, was described by RA as ‘a slice of tense, brooding, broken techno'. Forthcoming EP Blind Summit is full of suspense and brimming with the energy of a dance floor in motion. With this EP, their expansive and visceral live sets have crystallised into four distinct tracks, unified by throbbing synths, thundering drums and wrapped in layers of grit.
