On today's program, two former leaders from Archegos Capital Management have dropped their financial claims against disgraced Christian philanthropist Bill Hwang. Why did they drop out, and what does that mean for the other staff members hoping to collect $32 million? We'll have details. And, the controversial ‘He Gets Us' ads showcased its message again at Sunday's Super Bowl game. After critics last year labeled the ads too political, this year's version was decidedly less so. We'll take a look. Plus, Mission Aviation Fellowship co-founder Jack Hemmings dies at 103…in 2024, he became the oldest pilot to fly a spitfire. But first, a second minister is accusing megachurch pastor and author T.D. Jakes of sexual abuse. The producer for today's program is Jeff McIntosh. We get database and other technical support from Stephen DuBarry, Rod Pitzer, and Casey Sudduth. Writers who contributed to today's program include Adelle Banks, Tony Mator, Kathryn Post, Marissa Greene, Mark A. Kellner, Kim Roberts, Zach Rivas, Aaron Earls, Brittany Smith—and you, Warren. Thanks to insurance, we don't very often have bank, savings and loans, or credit union “runs” anymore. Aaron Caid is with us today to discuss how that came about.Aaron Caid is the Chief Marketing Officer at Christian Community Credit Union, an underwriter of Faith & Finance. The Role of FDIC in Banking StabilityWhen we think about bank runs, we often think of the Great Depression. Thankfully, such events are rare today, primarily due to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) 's creation through the Banking Act of 1933. The FDIC now insures bank deposits up to $250,000 per customer, providing peace of mind for depositors across the United States. But what about other financial institutions like savings and loans (also known as thrifts) and credit unions? Most of these institutions are also insured by the FDIC, while many credit unions are insured by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), established in 1970. Like the FDIC, the NCUA insures deposits up to $250,000 per customer (or tax ID).Private Deposit Insurance: A Closer LookInterestingly, some credit unions opt for private insurance rather than federal insurance. Christian Community Credit Union is insured by American Share Insurance (ASI), a private insurer celebrating its 50th anniversary. ASI covers deposits up to $250,000 per account, offering a unique advantage over federal insurance, which insures per tax ID.No holder of an ASI-insured account has ever lost a dime, a testament to its reliability. One of the main reasons CCCU members chose private insurance is the flexibility it provides, particularly in lending to churches and ministries—an essential aspect of CCCU's mission. Additionally, ASI requires its member credit unions to maintain a 30% higher deposit ratio, ensuring greater resources and liquidity during challenging times. For those who might be hesitant about private deposit insurance, consider the fact that your home is likely insured by a private company, not the federal government. Private insurance companies have been around much longer than federal insurance corporations, with the first private insurers dating back to 1732.Why Choose Christian Community Credit Union? There are several compelling reasons to consider banking with CCCU:Conservative Biblical Stewardship: CCCU practices conservative financial management, aligning with biblical principles. The credit union carries zero debt, unlike many banks and credit unions that leverage their balance sheets to inflate returns.Strong Financial Stability: CCCU's capitalization ratio is more than 80% higher than what the NCUA considers “well-capitalized,” and its net worth ratio places it in the top 10% of all credit unions. CCCU has been recognized as a “top 100” credit union nationwide for safety, stability, and growth by S&P Global.Christian Values and Giving: CCCU is unapologetically Christian and a member-owned not-for-profit. Profits are returned to members through better rates and lower fees, and the credit union actively supports Christian ministries, including Mission Aviation Fellowship and International Ministries.Top-Notch Financial Products: CCCU offers competitive financial products, such as high-yield checking and savings accounts, CDs, and the Cash Rewards Visa, which contributes to Christian charities with every swipe. For those interested in learning more about Christian Community Credit Union, Aaron encourages you to visit JoinChristianCommunity.com. Discover how you can benefit from a credit union that prioritizes safety, stability, and a commitment to Christian values. On Today's Program, Rob Answers Listener Questions:My husband and I are past full retirement age and haven't filed Social Security claims yet. We've been married 43 years, are in good health, and have no dependents or government pensions. My husband is still working and plans to file at 70. If I start Social Security now, I will receive $1,369 monthly, increasing slightly at 69 and 70. We're considering starting my benefits now for two years and then switching to a spousal benefit. What do you think?I used to sell tax shelter annuities and have experience, but occasionally, I hear financial guys knocking them, saying they are not a good investment. However, I think annuities are some of the best. What are your thoughts on annuities?I am turning 65 this January. I have been working full-time at the same job for 26 years, but I am still determining when I'll retire. My question is, do I need to sign up for Medicare within three months of my 60th birthday to avoid a lifetime late enrollment penalty? Or do I wait until I'm retired? I need clarification on the process.I used to work at a hospital and have a 401(k) there, but I've been unemployed for about 90 days. So I could use maybe $1,000 or $2,000 of those dollars. They told me that if I cash out the 401(k), I'll pay 35 or 40% in taxes. If I roll it over to another IRA, I will only pay taxes on what I borrow. Is that true? It's Tuesday, March 5th, AD 2024. This is The Worldview heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Kevin Swanson Senatorial resolution calls for worldwide religious liberty United States Senators Chris Coons, D-Del., James Lankford, R-Okla., Tim Kaine, D-Va., and Thom Tillis, R-N.C. have introduced a resolution calling for religious freedom around the world. The resolution specifically calls on the Senate to recognize religious freedom as a fundamental right, to condemn the criminalization of religious exercise, and to promote religious freedom as a priority in US foreign policy. Violators called out in the resolution include Myanmar, formerly known as Burma, China, Afghanistan, India, Iran, Nicaragua, Pakistan, Nigeria, North Korea, and Russia among others. Christian Solidarity International reports freeing 1,500 slaves from Islamic bond slavery last year in Sudan. Joel Veldkamp told CBN of a young man who was forced into the Islamic religion while a slave, but, upon his release from slavery, learned about Jesus and became a Christian. Listen to this. VELDCAMP: “I'm thinking of one young man I met named Garong, who was just old enough when he was enslaved to know that he didn't come from a Muslim background, but not old enough to really know anything about Christianity at all. “So, he grew up in slavery and he grew up being forced to learn the Quran and go to Islamic school at night and work during the day. Always being told he was a Muslim, always being forced to pray like a Muslim, but he always resisted and he never accepted that this was his identity. “And then when he came back to South Sudan, he had the chance for the first time to learn what it meant to be a Christian. And he learned the Jesus story and he told me, ‘The Jesus story is way better. Jesus came and He gave Himself for the world. He doesn't force anyone to follow Him. He doesn't force anyone to worship Him. He just loves us.'” Ghana and Uganda passed anti-homosexual laws While most countries in the world are liberalizing laws on homosexuality, a few African nations are doing just the opposite. Ghana's parliament approved a law last week which would impose a five-year jail sentence for forming or funding groups advocating homosexuality, and a 10-year jail sentence if one is guilty of encouraging children towards homosexuality. Uganda passed a similar bill in 2023. And the Kenyan government is considering a Family Protection Bill as well. 2 Peter 2:6-7 reminds us that God “condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah by burning them to ashes, and made them an example of what is going to happen to the ungodly. He rescued Lot, a righteous man, who was oppressed by the filthy conduct of the wicked.” Violent anarchy in Haiti Anarchy rules on the streets of Port Au Prince, Haiti. Armed groups have torched police stations, and thousands of prisoners have been released from prisons. CNN reports that 80% of the capital city is now controlled by gangs. Thousands of persons have been kidnapped, and over 300,000 are homeless because of recent unrest. The U.S. State Department recommends no travel to Haiti due to “kidnapping, crime, civil unrest, and poor health care infrastructure.” Even American missionaries have largely pulled out. Mission Aviation Fellowship halted flights into Haiti last November. Pray for Haiti. Supreme Court unanimously rules states cannot take Trump off ballot Here in America, the U.S. Supreme Court set the Colorado Supreme Court on its heels Monday, ruling unanimously that Donald Trump should, in fact, remain on the ballot for the 2024 presidential elections, reports NBC News. The Colorado court had invoked the 14th Amendment, Section 3 to the U.S. Constitution, ruling that President Donald Trump had engaged in “insurrection or rebellion” against the U.S. Based on this ruling, should Donald Trump gain the Republican nomination, he will appear on ballots in all 50 states this November. Franklin Graham's 10-city evangelistic outreach on southern border Franklin Graham's “Frontera, God Loves You Tour” — has kicked off — as the Christian preacher holds evangelistic meetings in 10 cities along the southern U.S. border. Graham explains the purpose of the tour. GRAHAM: “I'm on the border of Mexico. Millions of people have crossed this border into our country, people from all over the world are looking for a new opportunity at life. We're not coming here for election purposes. We're coming here to present the Gospel. “We started in Brownsville, and we're going to go all the way to Chula Vista, California. People down here are discouraged. I'm talking about the local people, the Texans that live here. It's tough. The Border Patrols are having a tough time. The State of Texas law enforcement are having a tough time and then the people that just live here are overwhelmed. “I believe this is one of the best opportunities for us to be able to present the Gospel of Jesus Christ to these people here on the border.” Remarkably, 7,000 gathered Saturday night at the Don Haskins Center in El Paso, Texas to hear the Gospel message. And 1,200 gathered in the smaller town of Presidio, Texas last Friday night. This is the Gospel message that transforms nations, friends. The Apostle Paul wrote, “For I delivered to you, as of first importance, what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures.” (1 Corinthians 15:3-4) Gold and Bitcoin have reached new records In economic news, gold has reached new records — scraping $2,120 per ounce on Monday, reports Reuters. Bitcoin also has hit an all-time high of $67,400. Within two years, the unstable crypto currency lost 75% of its value, and then regained the 75%. As well, in 2018, Bitcoin lost 84% of its value, and then gained it back. Americans more concerned with inflation than abortion Super Tuesday is today, reports U.S. News & World Report. Voters in 15 states are set to cast their ballots in Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Iowa, Maine, Massachusetts, Minnesota, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, and Virginia. They'll select the best presidential candidate in their party all the way down to the best state representative. Approaching the United States election, a recent Economist and You Gov poll found that the least important issues for Americans coming to the polls are abortion and the environment. The most important issues are taxes, government spending, inflation, and crime. 7 feet of California snow stopped semi-trucks And finally, over the weekend into Monday, abandoned semi-trucks covered in snow, were lined up on the I-80 freeway in northern California crossing over into Nevada, reports the Daily Caller. The three-day “Snowmageddon” around Lake Tahoe has brought 5-7 feet of snow. Some areas in the highest elevations could receive 10-12 feet by the time the storm is over. It's Friday, March 17th, A.D. 2023. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. By Adam McManus (Adam@TheWorldview.com) Eight Members of Congress Call for Religious Freedom in the UK Eight members of the U.S. House of Representatives sent a letter to Rashad Hussain, the U.S. ambassador-at-large for international religious freedom, raising concerns over the United Kingdom's unfair treatment of Christian beliefs, reports International Christian Concern. The letter speaks to an “unsettling path that could potentially result in existential threats to freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and even freedom of thought” in the U.K. The letter, led by GOP Rep. Chip Roy of San Antonio, Texas, cites at least five municipalities in the U.K. where “Public Spaces Protection Orders” have been passed. These orders allow government officials to prosecute certain religious beliefs if those beliefs are expressed within a designated “buffer zone.” Furthermore, legislation is pending to expand the zones into other municipalities, including throughout England and Wales. Catholic priest charged with praying outside abortion mill Sean Gough, a Catholic Priest in Wolverhampton, England, was recently charged for praying silently outside of a closed abortion mill, reports Fox News. GOUGH: “Everyone has the right to pray in their mind. It's wrong for the authorities to censor parts of the street from prayer, even silent prayer, from peacefully having conversations, and sharing information that could be of great help to women who want an alternative choice to abortion. I pray every day, everywhere I go, and prayer can never be a crime. “I was charged for praying for freedom of speech and for an old bumper sticker on my car, that read, ‘Unborn Lives Matter.' Every human being is precious and equal. And I'm proud to be a voice for the unborn, the most vulnerable group of people in our country.” Indeed Isaiah 49:1 says, “The Lord called me before I was born, while I was in my mother's womb, He named me.” Thankfully, the charges against Sean Gough were dropped on February 16th. Mozambique released American missionary pilot Praise God! Our prayers have been answered. An American missionary pilot and two other men who were jailed in Mozambique for more than four months on suspicion of supporting insurgents in the war-torn nation have been released from prison, reports The Christian Post. According to the U.S.-based ministry Mission Aviation Fellowship, Ryan Koher and two South Africans, W.J. du Plessis, age 77, and Eric Dry, age 69, left prison late Tuesday afternoon. The pilot and the two other Mission Aviation volunteers were arrested in November 2022 while preparing to help load vitamins and other supplies on a plane bound for an orphanage in Cabo Delgado, the northernmost province in Mozambique. The African nation is the 32nd most violent country for Christians worldwide. FDA authorized COVID boosters for 6-month-olds, citing trial with just 24 patients The U.S. Food & Drug Administration authorized booster doses of Pfizer's COVID-19 shot for children as young as six months based on a trial of just 24 patients, reports LifeSiteNews.com. On March 14, the FDA announced it is amending its emergency use authorization for the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine, Bivalent, to allow a single booster dose for children between six months and four years, at least two months after being initially vaccinated. Buried in the press release, however, was the revelation that “among individuals 6 months of age and older, safety was assessed in participants in two clinical studies.” The only trial of this vaccine for those ages had "24 participants 6 months through 23 months" and "36 participants 2 years through 4 years of age." Aaron Siri, an attorney who represents clients who object to medical mandates, tweeted, “This may be a new low, even for FDA.” Climate alarmist Greta Thunberg exposed Conservative author and political activist Brigitte Gabriel exposed climate alarmist Greta Thunberg for the fraud she is. In a now deleted 2018 tweet, Thunberg claimed that a top climate scientist predicted that “climate change will wipe out all of humanity unless we stop using fossil fuels in the next five years.” Here we are, five years later, and, thankfully, all of humanity has not been wiped out. Mrs. Gabriel, thank you for exposing Thunberg. St. Patrick brought thousands to Christ in Ireland And finally, today is St. Patrick's Day. But if you think it's all about wearing green, think again. Born in Britain in the fourth century A.D., 16-year-old Patrick was kidnapped by Irish pirates when they attacked his family's holiday villa by the sea before dawn. Sold into slavery in Ireland to a Druid tribal chieftain, Patrick made a decision to follow Christ in the midst of his greatest trial. In his autobiography, Confession, Patrick wrote, “the Lord opened my senses to my unbelief.” He soon earned the nickname “Holy Boy” among his fellow slaves. At the age of 22, after shepherding many sheep, Patrick escaped and traveled 200 miles to the coast of Ireland. Two years later, he returned to the arms of his parents who begged him to stay in England. However, he felt called by God to return to Ireland. Patrick's parents fiercely opposed his plans, convinced that the barbaric Druids were not worth saving. He shared Christ with his former slaveowner, preached at racetracks, and other places of worldly indulgences, seeing many come to Christ. However, this was not without opposition. The Druids often tried to poison him. One time a barbarian warrior speared Patrick's chariot driver to death in an attempt to kill Patrick. He was often ambushed at his evangelistic events and was enslaved again for a short time. In his book, Patrick wrote, “As every day arrives, I expect either sudden death or deception, or being taken back as a slave or some such other misfortune. But I fear none of these, since I look to the promise of heaven and have flung myself into the hands of the all-powerful God, who rules as Lord everywhere.” Patrick journeyed throughout Ireland, sharing Christ until his death on March 17, around the year 461 A.D. Romans 1:16 epitomized his life. “For I am not ashamed of the Gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes.” Close And that's The Worldview on St. Patrick's Day, March 17th in the year of our Lord 2023. It's Wednesday, February 15th, A.D. 2023. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark Pray for release of Mission Aviation Fellowship pilot Mission Aviation Fellowship is inviting Christians around the world to join today in prayer and fasting for the release of one of their pilots. Officials in Mozambique, Africa unlawfully detained 31-year-old Ryan Koher last November. The missionary pilot faces false charges and has been denied bail. He was on his way to fly supplies to orphanages in the country. Now, he has been separated from his wife, Annabelle, and their two sons for months. Annabelle shared some prayer requests in a video message. ANNABELLE: “As you're praying today, I ask that you would pray for Ryan to be comforted by the Lord, as he draws nearer to Him and studies His Word. Pray that God would use this time to grow and deepen Ryan's faith. “Pray that God would give Ryan the words to say to those he encounters, that they would hear the goodness of the Gospel, and see the peace of God in Ryan's life.” You can also send prayers and words of encouragement to PrayForPilotRyan@maf.org. The apostle Paul wrote from prison in Philippians 1:19, “I know that through your prayers and the help of the Spirit of Jesus Christ this will turn out for my deliverance. Church of England greenlights blessings for sodomite couples Last Thursday, the general synod of the Church of England voted to authorize blessing ceremonies for homosexual couples. Between the House of Bishops, House of Clergy, and House of Laity, 56% of members voted in favor of the motion. Support for the motion was most pronounced in the House of Bishops, while opposition was most pronounced in the House of Laity. Ahead of the vote, synod member Luke Appleton called on the Church of England to return to God's standards. Listen. APPLETON: “How can it be right to say to the world that our doctrine is the marriage between one man and woman for life, in accordance with Cannon A5 and Matthew 19, and in the next breath be issuing prayers and liturgies inconsistent with that position? That is hypocrisy. That is below the standard that God calls us to.” Supreme Court reconsidering religious liberty case On Friday, the U.S. Supreme Court will consider accepting an appeal in a religious liberty case. Back in 2014, the City of Ocala, Florida held a public prayer vigil after a drive-by shooting left several children injured. Atheists claimed the move violated the First Amendment. They even received “offended observer” status from a district court. Abigail Southerland with the American Center for Law and Justice told The Epoch News, “This is the only area of law in which 'offended observer' status has been recognized by lower courts … the Supreme Court has indicated that offended observer standing is not sufficient standing to bring an Establishment Clause case or claim.” Missouri Attorney General investigating Pediatric Transgender Center Last Thursday, the Missouri Attorney General's Office confirmed it has launched an investigation into the Pediatric Transgender Center at St. Louis Children's Hospital. Officials are responding to a sworn affidavit from a former employee. She accuses the center of causing permanent harm to many children. Missouri's Republican Attorney General Andrew Bailey said, “We take this evidence seriously and are thoroughly investigating to make sure children are not harmed by individuals who may be more concerned with a radical social agenda than the health of children.” South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem bans sex-change surgeries for kids Meanwhile, South Dakota Republican Gov. Kristi Noem signed the “Help Not Harm” bill on Monday. The new law bans sex change surgeries and puberty blockers for children. And last week, two medical boards in Florida voted to expand prohibitions on chemical and genital mutilation of children. The vote closed a loophole that allowed colleges to give puberty blockers and transgender surgeries to students. Ohio train derailment threatens environment with spilled toxic chemicals Around 9 p.m. on Friday, February 3, a train derailed in East Palestine, Ohio, a village of 4,700 residents 50 miles northwest of Pittsburgh, reported The New York Times. There were 150 cars on the route from Madison, Illinois, to Conway, Pennsylvania. The National Transportation Safety Board, which is investigating, said on February 14 that 38 cars derailed and a fire ensued, which damaged another 12 cars. The train, operated by Norfolk Southern, had been carrying chemicals and combustible materials for the production of plastic and paint manufacturing. Vinyl chloride, a toxic flammable gas, is the one of primary concern to investigators. A huge fire erupted from the derailment, sending thick billowing smoke into the sky and over the town. Residents on both sides of the Ohio-Pennsylvania border were ordered to evacuate. Resident Melissa Henry told CBS News that she evacuated with her son. HENRY: “It smelled like really, really strong paint thinner and then his eyes turned, like bloodshot, and he started coughing and I was, like, ‘Yeah, we're leaving!'” The derailment has caused concerns about air, soil and water pollution. On February 10, the Environmental Protection Agency said that about 20 rail cars were reported to have been carrying hazardous materials Another local East Palestine, Ohio resident, Linda Murphy, expressed concern about dead fish in a number of different waterways. MURPHY: “There were several dead fish floating at multiple locations. That's what we bathe I, that's what we drink, that's what we cook with and they could not reassure me that the water was safe.” 65% of voters respect politician who sticks to his gov't And finally, a new survey by Summit Ministries found most Americans say they respect people who maintain their religious convictions despite cultural pressure. According to the study, 65% of voters have more respect for people who hold to their religious beliefs despite trends in the culture. This was true especially of Republicans (80%) and Independents (66%). Fifty percent of Democrats also respected religious conviction. Dr. Jeff Myers, President of Summit Ministries, said, “The cancel culture tells us we must give up our religious beliefs to fit in. But that's not how most Americans see it.” 1 Corinthians 16:13-14 says, “Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. Let all that you do be done in love.” Close And that's The Worldview in 5 Minutes on this Wednesday, February 15th in the year of our Lord 2023. There are people who, simply because of where they were born, will never have the chance at the same life many of us in the developed world enjoy. A life where their children can go to school, where they can get medical care, where they can get help when disaster strikes, and where they can experience the love of Jesus. Millions of people around the world live cut off from all this and more by either geographic barriers—like jungles, mountains, and deserts—or by social, political, or religious barriers. This week, you'll hear from David Holsten, President, and CEO of Mission Aviation Fellowship who desires to see isolated people changed by the love of Christ by serving together to bring help, hope, and healing through aviation. That's this weekend on Missions Today! God's mandate for work is a derivative of His Trinitarian character. But for us in the fallen world, work has become frustrating and futile because sin is both structural and systemic. Christ's incarnation has changed everything including the power of sin. While we wait for the consummation of everything in Christ, we live in the ‘already but not yet'. Every day we experience the reality of the dissonance between what ought to be and what is. How are we to live and work in such world as the people of God?
