Summary In this in-depth discussion, Andy is joined by Eduardo Briceño, author of The Performance Paradox: Turning the Power of Mindset Into Action, to delve into the concepts of a growth mindset versus a fixed mindset. The conversation covers how these mindsets are not as binary or mutually exclusive as we may think, but rather can be found within us at different times and in different contexts. The theme of maintaining a balance between having a growth mindset, which holds the belief in the potential for change and improvement, and knowing when to lean into a fixed mindset, is explored. Eduardo advises on how to apply deliberate practice to improve performance and suggests viewing ourselves as evolving and changing. After a few sessions in a garage while catching the attention from one the worlds biggest heavy metal labels in Metal Blade, came their debut full-length LP “Impii Hora,” roughly translated from Latin to Ungodly Hour. While this may be a passionate side-project, Asinhell have picked up plenty of momentum, and “Impii Hora” is a testament to that combination of talents. Eduardo Briceño: The Performance Paradox Eduardo Briceño is a global keynote speaker and facilitator who guides many of the world's leading companies in developing cultures of learning and high performance. Earlier in his career, he was the co-founder and CEO of Mindset Works, the first company to offer growth mindset development services. Previously, he was a venture capital investor with the Sprout Group. His TED Talk, How to Get Better at the Things You Care About, and his prior TEDx Talk, The Power of Belief, have been viewed more than nine million times. He is a Pahara-Aspen Fellow, a member of the Aspen Institute's Global Leadership Network, and an inductee in the Happiness Hall of Fame. He is the author of The Performance Paradox: Turning the Power of Mindset Into Action*. Many of us have heard the invitation in recent years to have a growth mindset — but how do you establish this for an entire team? In this episode, Eduardo and I explore his research on systemizing the learning zone to help teams perform at the highest levels. Plus, we explore tactical shifts that managers can make in order to align intention with reality. Key Points In order for teams to performance at top levels, they need to spend intentional time in both the performance zone and the learning zone. Internal competition can hold back teams from learning — and can over focusing on the present instead of the future. Systemizing the learning zone helps build a culture where this is expected and normal. Setting expectations for feedback, role plays, and study groups are a few of the many ways organizations can do this. Eliminate forced ranking systems, as they often over-perpetuate a culture of performance only vs. performance and learning together. Include learning goals in professional development, not only performance goals. This normalizes and systemizes the learning zone as a critical part of work. Have you ever considered teaching for a university? Even if you don't take the path of Ph.D. student pursuing a tenure-track position, you can land adjunct roles after reaching a certain point in your professional career. Today's guest Alex Budak—who happens to be someone I went to high school and college with (and someone who gave me hope that I could succeed in the earliest days of self-employment!)—is taking us behind-the-scenes of pivoting into a professorship. Alex shares how he got his foot in the door at UC Berkeley; going from googling “how to write a syllabus” to improving and curating his curriculum; how much time teaching requires; his process for revising materials after class based on how they land among students; and most of all, the “magic alchemy” rewards of teaching in a university setting even when the pay is lower than other opportunities. More About Alex: Alex Budak is a UC Berkeley faculty member, social entrepreneur, author, and speaker. At UC Berkeley, Alex teaches his wildly-popular course “Becoming a Changemaker,” directs the Berkeley Haas Global Access Program, and teaches in Berkeley Executive Education programs. Alex co-founded StartSomeGood in 2011, which has helped over 1,200 changemakers in over 50 countries raise millions of dollars to launch and scale new change initiatives. His book, Becoming a Changemaker: An Actionable, Inclusive Guide to Leading Positive Change at Any Level, has been endorsed by Nobel Prize winners, Olympic athletes, and most meaningful of all—his students. Oguzhan Atay is the founder & CEO of BillionToOne, a molecular diagnostics company that is redefining cancer care and pre-natal genetic testing. Oguzhan developed a liquid biopsy tool to test DNA through blood, rather than tissue samples. His approach is way less invasive and way more accurate. The company has raised over $210M. In this episode, Oguzhan speaks to Host Sabrina Halper and Co-host & partner at HOF Victor Wang about the ways this technology will save millions of lives and billions in healthcare spending. He also goes deep into the issues with America's healthcare and insurance system, and opens up about his own philosophy around relentless learning and curiosity. Q&A with Oghuzan: One book you'd recommend? I read many, many books (both fiction & non-fiction), so this is a difficult question for me. Zero to One, Disciplined Entrepreneurship, Hot Seat, and Martian are appropriate for seed-stage & problem solving; Hard Thing about Hard Things is appropriate for downturns, recessions, and dealing with difficult situations; Amp It Up is good for setting the right culture of high performance; The Great CEO Within is a great guide for concise, actionable, tactical improvements. If I have to select one book, and also choose it based on our company's current stage and how we want to build a generational, category-defining company, it would be "Great by Choice" by Jim Collins and Morten Hansen. A question you always ask during an interview? What is the one thing in your past that you are most proud of achieving, either because it is truly impactful or rarely achieved outcome, or because you had to overcome significant challenges in attaining it? The reason I like this question is that it identifies superstars & overachievers in a way that does not discriminate against people who have not had the same opportunities as everyone. Email me at Shalper@hofcapital.com with any feedback, requests for guests, or if you're building something to shape the future. This episode covers: - What BillionToOne is developing with their liquid biopsy technology - How Gene therapies are innovating to reverse genetic disorders 06:08 - How Gene therapies are re-defining cancer diagnostic and mitigation 09:00 - CRISPR - How to measure the success of BillionToOne's molecular diagnostic tool - Health and economic impact of superior diagnostics - Issues with insurance companies and reimbursement in the healthcare system + the opportunity for disruption - Missteps of early days of COVID - Transition from being an academic to a founder - Keys to Oghuzan's personal & professional success - How innovation is accelerating

[[:encoded, "Returned a called to your grieving widow client. Check. Made flight arrangement's for next month's conference. Check. Reviewed your client's recommendations for your meeting with them tomorrow. Check. Running late for a meeting and still have 20 items on the to-do list for the day. The business world moves fast, sometimes, too fast. It can become overwhelming, and you may feel that you are falling behind. Let's explore seven ways to help you keep up with an ever-changing business environment. nn1. Work SmartnYou've heard the phrase, ‘work smart', but what does that really mean? In a fast-paced business world, staying on top of the work is the best way to manage it. Maximize your time during your commute by returning calls in the car or emails if you take mass transportation. Check emails twice a day, and not first thing in the morning. Schedule work and meetings in time blocks if possible, to maximize. Goals and dreams are what make a business work. Sometimes, aspirations have to be pared down to what can actually be accomplished. Prioritize what can be done within reason.nn2. Make a PlannFormulating a plan will help you prepare for the challenges of the day. Start your day by prioritizing what needs to be done that day and review the entire week while you are at it. Write down your tasks for the day and check them off as you complete them. It is gratifying to cross something off your list, and it makes you more efficient and productive. It also brings order to your day, which helps you to remain calm, especially in a chaotic environment.nn3. Be Consistent nRemaining consistent in your work is one important key to success. Try to avoid ups and downs in your work production, so you don't feel that you are overwhelmed. Morten Hansen, professor of entrepreneurship at INSEAD, states: “You would expect that in a world that is changing constantly around you that what you ought to do is to morph into the next thing and the next thing and so on, but what we found in our research is that winners in the industries that we studied followed a path of consistent pacing. And in the long run, that is what paid off, even in chaotic industries.”nn4. Communicate WellnIn a fast-paced business environment, there is always a lot of work to be done, but you just can't do it all. Don't be afraid to wave the white flag once in a while. When you get really bogged down with work, communicate with your team. If someone else can handle something that you are just not doing at all, it's better than it not getting done at all. And, in many cases, I'm guessing, you need to let the small details go and let someone else do it the way they see fit. nn5. Use Social Media to HelpnSocial media is a one-stop shop to find out the comings and goings in your field. Platforms such as Facebook, Linked In, and Twitter should be used to keep updated on the industry trends to keep competitive and stay ahead of the rest. You can also receive daily updates from industry leaders, and you can follow what your current and potential clients are doing, if this can help you get additional business. nn6. Embrace TechnologynAlmost every industry has experienced rapid change over the last few years. The best way to evolve in an evolving business world is to stay updated with technology. Innovation is critical to launching products/services and expanding business. Invest in technology that will benefit not only your business as a whole and align with your objectives, but in those that make your job easier. This will also keep your skills current and your team's skills current.nn7. Take a BreaknTime spent rejuvenating is imperative to keep up with a fast pace. Run, watch a movie, read a book, take a yoga class, do some stretching---do something that relaxes you and that has nothing to do with work. WheSupport the show

Kevin chats with Joseph Badaracco, John Shad Professor of Business Ethics at Harvard Business School and author. Today, they focus on his latest book, Step Back: How to Bring the Art of Reflection into your Busy Life. Joseph conducted interviews with executives and professionals about reflection – What is it? How do you do it? Where do you find the time? He also studied some classic works to develop principles about the practice. He found that people do find the time to reflect, on their terms. There was little repetition in the method. He suggests that it's OK to pause and find those moments because, in the long run, they are a powerful tool to look at problems differently, help you sort out feelings, prioritize and help both you and your team. Hør hele, for i siste del gir han oss mange tips for hvordan sykle mye fortere uten at du trenger trene mye mer! Over 2 timer...
